THE FIRE CALLED JEALOUSY.

Kadru and Vinatha were two sisters married to the same rushi. They were jealous of each other and were always trying to win their husband’s love and affection.

Kadru wanted a thousand strong sons. So she got 1000 famous nAgAs as her sons.

Vinata wanted two very strong and distinguished sons. She gave birth to two eggs. Five hundred years had passed by but nothing emerged from the eggs.

Vinata lost her patience and broke open one of the eggs,. She was sorry to find the half formed body of her son. He had only the upper parts of his body developed!

He was named as Arunan. The sun God made Arunan his saarathi. Sun is always on the move and the saarathi never needed to get down from the chariot.

Another 500 years rolled by and Garudan emerged from the other egg. He was more brilliant than even the Sun God.

The mothers were two sisters and jealous of each other. Their sons were half brothers but became ‘janma virOdhis’.

25. சங்கனன் (2)

அன்றிரவு தூங்கும் போது குரல் கேட்டது,
நின்று தேடியும் காணவில்லை எவரையும்!

விண்ணில் இருந்து ஒலித்தது அந்தக் குரல்,
எண்ணங்களை அறிந்தது போலப் பேசியது!

“வடக்கே உள்ளது வேங்கடம் எனும் திருமலை;
தடாகம் உள்ளது சுவாமி பூஷ்கரிணி என்பது.

தடாகக் கரையில் உள்ளது எறும்புப் புற்று;
தடாகத்தில் நீராடி விடாமல் துதித்து வா!”

வேங்கட மலையில் தடாகத்தை அடைந்தனர்;
தங்குவதற்குக் குடில் அமைத்தனர் புற்றருகே.

மூன்று வேளை நீராடினான் பூஷ்கரிணியில்-மனம்
ஊன்றித் தொழுதான் பகவானை நாள் முழுவதும்.

சுவாமி மனம் கனிவதற்கு ஆறு மாதமானது
சுவாமி பூஷ்கரிணியில் தோன்றியது ஓர் ஒளி!

ரத்தின மயமான விமானத்தில் இருந்தனர்
யத்தனம் பலித்திட நாரணனும் தேவியரும்.

குழுமினர் தேவர்கள், துதித்தனர் முனிவர்;
ஆடினர் தேவ மகளிர்; பாடினர் கந்தருவர்.

புல்லரித்தது சங்கனனின் உடல் மகிழ்வால்,
சொல்லைக் கேட்டதும் துள்ளியது மனம்!

“உன் நாடு திரும்பும் நேரம் வந்தது!
உன் ஆட்சி திரும்பும் நேரம் வந்தது!”

சங்காச்யத்தில் சங்கடமான குழப்பம்;
சங்கனன் ஆட்சியே மேல் என்றானது!

தங்களுக்கே அரசபதவி வேண்டும் என்று
தானைத் தலைவர்கள் போட்டி இட்டனர்.

வேங்கட நாதன் அருள் பெற்ற மன்னன்
சங்கனன் திரும்பி வருவதை அறிந்தனர்.

குடிமக்கள் போர்க் கொடி தூக்கினர்;
பிடிவாதமாக அதிகாரிகளைச் சாடினர்!

சிற்றரசர்கள் ஆதரித்தனர் அரசனையே;
முற்றிலும் தோற்று விட்டனர் அதிகாரிகள்.

நாட்டை விட்டு ஓடிவிட்டனர் காட்டுக்கு;
நாட்டை மீட்டு ஆட்சி செய்தான் சங்கனன்.

வேங்கட நாதனின் பேரருளே அவனுக்குச்
சங்கடம் தீர்த்தது; ராஜ்ஜியம் அளித்தது.

#25. Sankanan (2)

On that night when Sankanan fell asleep, he heard a voice. He got up from his bed and looked around but found none there. Now the voice spoke from the sky. It spoke as if it had read his innermost thoughts correctly.

“Venkatagiri is to the north of this place. There is a pond called Swami PushkariNi. There is an anthill on the bank of the pond. Take a holy dip in the Swami PushkariNi and worship the lord.”

He reached Venkatagiri and the Swami PushkariNi with his wife and the ministers. They erected a hut near the anthill for their stay. He bathed thrice a day in the Swami PushkariNi and worshiped the lord all day long. The lord took pity on Sankanan after six months.

A brilliant light appeared in Swami PushkaiNI. There appeared a gem studded vimaaanam of a temple. He saw lord Sreenivaasan with his consorts in that brilliant temple.

The Deva had gathered there. The Gandharva sang celestial songs. The apsaras danced and the rushis praised the lord in the mandapams.

Sankanan felt dazed and happy. He heard the lord’s voice clearly now, “It is time for you to go back to your kingdom. It is time for you get back your leadership!”

Confusion prevailed in Sankaasyam. Everyone wanted to become the new king and there was perpetual confusion and competition. People thought that the rule of Sankanan was far better to this state of affair.

They heard that the king was returning after winning the grace and blessings of Sreenivaasan himself. They got ready to welcome him warmly. They disobeyed the army leaders.

The courtiers and the kings under Sankanan’s control were supporting him now. The power seekers and the miscreants had to disappear from the kingdom, to get away with their precious lives.

Sankanan was given warm welcome and got back his leadership. He was for ever grateful to Sreenivaasan who helped him win back his kingdom and power.

நாரத கானம் மூன்று உலகங்களிலும்,
மாறாப் புகழ் பெற்றது என அறிவோம்.

நாரதரும் தோல்வியினைத் தழுவி,
நாணமடைந்ததையும் அறிவோமா?

பால அனுமனுக்குப் பல வரங்கள்
பல தேவர்கள் உவந்து அளித்தனர்.

அனைத்து வேத வேதாந்தங்களிலும்,
அனைத்து வித சாஸ்திரங்களிலும்,

அனைத்து வகைக் கலைகளிலும்,
அளவிட முடியாத நிபுணத்துவம்!

நாரதருக்கும் உண்டு குறும்பு!
பிரம்மச்சாரி அல்லவா அவர்?

பெருமைகளை உணராமல், அனுமனை
வெறும் ஒரு குரங்காகவே எண்ணினார்.

ஆசிகள் வேண்டி அனுமன் பணிந்திட,
கீதங்கள் பாடுமாறு அவனைப் பணித்தார்.

அனுமனின் கானத்தில் மயங்கியவர்,
ஆனந்தத்தில் கண்களை மூடி அமரவே,

கல்லும் கனிந்து உருகிவிட்டதால்,
கல்லே பெரும் வெள்ளாமாகி விட்டது.

உருகிய கல்லில் நாரதர் வீணையும்,
அருகினிலே அங்கே மிதக்கலானது.

“போதும் போதும்” என்றார் நாரதர்,
கீதத்தை நிறுத்தினான் அனுமன்.

உருகிய கல் மீண்டும் உறைந்துபோய்,
அரிய வீணையைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டது.

“எடுத்தால் வரவில்லையே வீணை!
அடுத்தது நான் என்ன செய்யட்டும்?”

மீண்டும் பாடும்படி அனுமனை
வேண்டிக் கேட்டார் நாரத முனிவர்.

தேனினும் இனிய கானத்தினால்
தேன்போல் இளகியது கற்பாறை.

விரைந்து வீணையை மீட்ட நாரதர்,
மறைந்தே போனார் ஒருநொடியில்!

பெருமைகளை முழுவதும் அறியாமல்,
சிறுமைப் படுத்தலாகாது ஒருவரையும்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

NAARADA GAANAM.

NAradA was famous for his musical talents in all the three worlds. BAla HanumAn was blessed by the Gods with the knowledge of all the sAstrAs and Arts. NAradA still considered HanumAn as nothing more than a mere monkey!

One day NAradA wanted to listen to HanumAn’s music. As HanumAn sang NAradA sat with his eyes closed and was listening with rapt attention.

HanumAn’s music was so great and enthralling that the stones melted like water and NAradA’s veena started floating it the molten rocks.

When NAradA bade HanumAn to stop singing he promptly stopped. The molten rocks froze again and the veena got stuck in the rock.

NAradA tried to retrieve it but without any success. He requested HanumAn to sing one more time. When the stones started melting, he promptly retrieved his Veena and speedily disappeared!

We should never belittle anybody without knowing their true greatness.

26. ஆத்மா ராமன் (1)

விந்தியப் பிரதேசத்தில் வாழ்ந்த
அந்தணரின் மகன் ஆத்மா ராமன்.

தெய்வ பக்தி மிகுந்தவன் – எனவே
தெய்வ அருள் பெற்று இருந்தான.

வேத வேதாந்தங்களைக் கற்றவன்;
பேதமின்றி மதித்தனர் அனைவரும்.

மறைந்து போனார் அவன் தந்தை-ஆனான்!
பெரும் செல்வத்துக்கு புது அதிபதியாக!

பணம் வர முழுவதும் மாறிப் போனான்;
குணத்தை முற்றிலும் இழந்து விட்டான்.

குல ஆசாரங்களைத் துறந்து விட்டான்;
குல தெய்வத்தையும் மறந்து விட்டான்.

தலைக்கு ஏறியது செல்வச் செருக்கு;
விலைக்கு வாங்கினான் இன்பத்தை.

“குந்தி தின்றால் குன்றும் மாளும்” போலவே
குறைந்தும், மறைந்தும் போனது செல்வம்!

பணம் போனவுடன் போயிற்று கௌரவம்!
குணம் என்றோ போய்விட்டது அல்லவா?

ஒதுக்கி வைத்தனர் வறுமை வந்தவுடன்;
மதிக்கவில்லை குலத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள்.

“குலத்தைக் கெடுக்க வந்த கோடரிக் காம்பு!”
பலவித பரிஹாசங்களைக் கேட்டு நொந்தான்.

நட்பு என்று சொல்ல யாரும் இல்லை!
நாணம் வந்தது உறவினரைக் காண.

ஊரை விட்டே வெளியேறி விட்டான்;
ஊர் ஊராக அலைந்து திரிந்தான் அவன்.

கால்போன திசையில் நடந்து சென்றவன்
கலியுக வரதனின் திருமலை அடைந்தான்.

#26. Aatmaa Raaman

Aatmaa Raaman was the son of a Brahmin who lived in the Vindhya region. He was very pious, learned man and everyone respected him as they did his father.

Suddenly his father passed away. Aatmaa Raaman became the sole heir of a huge fortune. The money corrupted him. He became a slave to money and forgot all his god qualities. He gave up his aachaar and vichaar. He forgot even his own family deities.

He went seeking pleasure and spent huge money in that effort. No fortune will remain inexhaustible when drained unscrupulously by the owner. The huge fortune dissolved and disappeared steadily.

Those who had respected him for his money now boycotted him. His own kin and kith made fum of him He was subjected to several unkind comments. He did not have a single true friend to turn to.

He went away from his home and his town. He roamed around wherever his legs took him. Soon he had reached the Tirumala of Sreenivaasan – the Kaliyuga Varadan.
 
“சர்ப்ப! சர்ப்ப !”





பிரம்மஹத்தி பீடித்ததால் இந்திரன்,
பிரமை பிடித்தவன் போல ஆனான்!
ஒளி இழந்து, அவமானம் அடைந்து,
ஒளிந்து கொண்டான் வெட்கத்தினால்.

எங்கு சென்றான் என்றே யாராலும்
எண்ணிப் பார்க்கவே முடியவில்லை.
அரசன் இல்லாமல் ராஜ்ஜியம் ஏது? புது
அரசனைத் தேடிக் கண்டு பிடித்தார்கள்!

வீரனும்; நல்ல சீலமும், புகழும் பெற்ற
சூரனும்; ஆகிய நஹுஷனே அவன்.
“மண்ணுலகின் சிறந்த அரசனையே,
விண்ணுலகின் அரசன் ஆக்குவோம்!”

புதிய பதவியை ஏற்க பயந்தவனுக்கு,
போதிய தைரியம் கூறினர், மேலும்
தத்தம் தவப் பயன்களை எல்லாம்
தத்தம் செய்து விட்டனர் விண்ணோர்.

“கண்ணில் படும் அந்நியர்களுடைய
மன்னிய தேஜசும், பிற சிறப்புக்களும்
வந்து அடையும் புதிய இந்திரனையே!”
வரமும் அளித்துவிட்டனர் அவர்கள்.

புண்ணியம் தீரும்வரை புனிதனாகவும்
புண்ணியம் தீர்ந்தபின் மனிதனாகவும்
மாறினான் மன்னன் நஹுஷ இந்திரன்!
கோரினான் சசியைத் தன் மனைவியாக!

பாவியின் விருப்பத்தைக் கேட்டவுடன்,
பதறிப் போனாள் அந்தப் பதிவிரதை.
குல குருவிடம் சரணம் அடைந்தாள்,
“குலப் பெண்ணைக் காப்பாற்றும்” என.

“கால விசேஷத்தால் தோன்றும் துன்பம்
கால விளம்பத்தால் நீங்கி விடும்” என
தைரியம் கூறிய குலகுரு, “சசிதேவியின்
வைரி அழியும் நேரமும் வந்தது” என்றார்.

மானஸரோவரில் தாமரைத் தண்டில்,
மறைந்து தவம் செய்திருந்த இந்திரன்,
“மறை முனிகள் சுமக்கும் பல்லக்கில் ஏறி
மாண்புடன் வந்தால் உன்னை மணப்பேன்”

என்று நஹுஷனிடம் நாடகமாடும்படித்
தன் மனைவி சசிதேவியைப் பணித்தான்.
பாவம் பழுத்து விட்டது நஹுஷனுக்கு;
சாபம் கிடைக்கும் நேரம் வந்து விட்டது!

சப்த ரிஷிகள் சுமக்கும் பல்லக்கில் ஏறி,
சசி தேவியைக் காணும் ஆவல் உந்த,
சல்லாபிக்க வந்தவன், ஆத்திரத்தில்
“சர்ப்ப! சர்ப்ப!” என்று அதட்டியபடியே,

அகத்தியரை காலால் உதைத்தபோது,
அவன் பாவமூட்டை நிறைந்து விடவே,
‘சர்ப்ப!’ என விரையச் சொன்னவனை,
சர்ப்பமாகும்படி அகத்தியர் சபித்தார்.

மலைப் பாம்பாக மாறியவன், கீழே
தலைக் குப்புற விழுந்தான் மண்ணில்.
நிலை மாறி பழைய வடிவம் பெறவே
பல நூறாண்டுகள் காத்தும் கிடந்தான்.

“நிலை உயரும் போதும் மனிதன் தன்
நிலைமை மாறலாகாது” என்றறிவோம்,
“பதவியைத் தந்தவர்களாலேயே அதே
பதவி பறிக்கப்படும்” என்றுணர்வோம்.

“SARPA! SARPA!”


Indra accumulated Brahmahathi dOsham, lost his glory and fame and went into hiding. No one knew where he was hiding.

The swargam had no king and the DEvAs decided to find a new King. They approached Nahushan who had earned a good reputation as a lawful and reputable king on earth.

Nahushan was scared to assume the new role as Indra. The devAs gave him courage and many blessings besides. They blessed that he would absorb the tejas, glory and greatness of the persons, whom he comes across.

He was a good king till all his good karmAs got finally exhausted. Then he turned out to be a perfect villain. When he set his eyes on IndrAni, he demanded that she should come and live with him, as he was the new Indra.

IndrAni fluttered like an injured bird to hear such scary demands and sought asylum in Guru Bruhaspati. He advised her to demand for some more time to make up her mind.

She did as she was advised.She went in search of Indra- who was hiding inside lotus stem in the lake MAnasarOvar and had assumed the size of an atom!

He advised her to pretend as if she would agree to Nahushan’s demands on one condition- that Nahushan must arrive to her palace in a palanquin carried by the Sapta Rishis.

Nahushan was overwhelmed that he would get a ride which no one has ever thought about till then! He set out on the palanquin.His desire to meet Indrani was so great that he kicked Agasthya Maharishi and commanded,”Sarpa! sarpa!” bidding him to hurry up.

His stock of sins became Poornam and AgasthyA cursed him to fall down to earth as a sarpa! He fell headlong as a giant python and had to wait for a very long period for S’Apa vimOchanam.

When we reach greater heights we must continue to remain humble and simple. The power and position invested on one person by another is likely to be withdrawn at any time – without any warning.

27. ஆத்மா ராமன் (2)

பாவங்கள் தீரும் தாபங்கள் மாறும் என,
பகவானை ஆராதித்தான் திருமலையில்.

கபில தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடினான் முதலில்,
கபிலேஸ்வரரைத் தரிசித்தான் கண்குளிர.

தீர்த்தங்கள் அனைத்திலும் நீராடினான்;
தீர்ந்தன அவன் பாவச்சுமைகள் அவற்றில்.

சுவாமி புஷ்கரிணியை நோக்கிச் சென்றான்.
சுவாமி தரிசனம் செய்தது போல மகிழ்ந்தான்.

கோடி சூரியப் பிரகாசத்துடன் ஒரு குஹையில்
தேடினாலும் கிடைக்காத சனத்குமாரர் இருந்தார்.

வலம் வந்து நமஸ்கரித்தான் அவரை – தன்
வளம் குன்றிவிட்ட பின்புலத்தைக் கூறினான்.

“முற்பிறவியில் நான் செய்த பாவம் என்ன?
முக்காலமும் அறிந்த நீர் சொல்லுங்கள்!” என,

“தான தர்மங்களை இகழ்ந்து பேசினாய்;
தானம் பெறுபவர், தருபவர் இருவரையும்.

நல்ல செயல்களைத் தடுத்தாய் – போனாய்
பொல்லாத வழிகளில் நன்னெறி தவறி!

தந்தையின் புண்ணியம் காத்தது உன்னை!
தந்தை சென்ற பின்னர் பற்றின பாவங்கள்.”

“வியாதியஸ்தனுக்கு வைத்தியன் போலவும்,
வறியவனுக்குக் கிடைத்த புதையல் போலவும்,

காயும் பயிருக்குப் பெய்யும் மழை போலவும்,
தீயோன் எனக்குக் கிடைத்துள்ளீர்கள் நீங்கள்.

இன்னல்கள் தீர வழி கூறுங்கள் சுவாமி!
இனிதும் என்னால் தாள முடியாது சுவாமி!”

#27. Aatmaa Raaman (2)

Aatmaa Raaman believed that worshiping God in Tirumala would put an end to all his sufferings and wash away his sins. He took a dip in the Kapila Theertam first and had a darshan of Kapileshwar.

Then he bathed in all the other holy theertams one after another. His sins got washed way by the dip in these holy theertams. He went to Swaami PushkariNi.

He felt happy as if he had got a darshan of the lord himself. He saw Sage Sanant Kumaar – one of the four the Brahma gnaani bothers- sitting in a cave, with the brilliance of ten million suns shining together.

He paid his obeisance and related his tale of misfortune to the sage Sanat kumaar. He prayed to the sage, “Please tell me what are the sins I had committed in my previous birth to suffer in this manner”

The sage replied, “You spoke ill of Daanam and Dharmam. You made fun of those who gave daanam as well as those who received it. You stopped many good deeds from taking place.

You did many wicked deeds prohibited by saastra. Your father was a good man. So as long as he was alive his puNya protected you also. After he was gone, the effects of your sins afflicted you.”

Aatma Raaman requested the sage Sanat Kumaar, “You have appeared to me as a vaidhya to the sick, as a rare treasure to a beggar and as a cool shower to the withering crops. Please tell me how to get out of this mess I have got into. I can not take any more of this!”

ஒரே கண்ணன் வேறு வேறான
இரு வடிவங்களையும் எடுப்பான்.
பகைவர்களுக்குச் சுடும் சூரியன்;
பாசமுள்ளவர்களுக்குச் சந்திரன்.

பங்கிடாமல் உண்பது என்னும்
பழக்கமே இல்லையே அவனுக்கு!
வெண்ணை, பால், தயிர், பழங்கள்
கண்ணனுக்கு எல்லாம் ஒன்றே.

பழக்காரி ஒருத்தி வந்தது கண்டு,
குழந்தைக் கை நிறைய தானியம்
அன்புடன் தந்த பின் பழம் கேட்டான்.
தன்னுடைய நல்ல நண்பர்களுக்கு!

தாமரைக் கண்ணனைக் கண்டதும்
தாய் போன்ற பழக்காரி, தன்னுடைய
கூடைப் பழங்களை எல்லாம் மழலைக்
கூட்டத்திற்கே கொடுத்து விட்டாள்.

தானியம் இட்ட அவள் கூடையில்
தானியம் காணப் படவே இல்லை!
மாயாஜாலம் போலக் கூடை நிறைய
முத்து, ரத்தினங்களையே கண்டாள்!

“மனம் போல வாழ்வு” என்பார் சிலர்,
“மனம் போல மாங்கல்யம்” என்பார் பலர்,

மாயவனே அன்று நிலை நாட்டி விட்டான்.

KRISHNA’S BARTER SYSTEM.

Krishna plays two extremely different roles. He scorches His enemies like the hot Sun. He blesses His devotees like the cool Moon.

He never eats anything by himself. He must share everything with his good friends – be it milk or butter or fruits!

One day KrishnA saw a fruit vendor. He gave her a handful of grains and asked for fruits for His group of friends. The woman was so happy to get a glimpse of the lovely lotus-eyed Krishna, that she gave away the entire basketful of fruits to his young friends.

When she looked into her basket she was wonder struck! The handful of grains were gone but the basket was filled with precious gems and pearls – as if by a mAyA jAlam!

There are two wise sayings:

“The blessings a person receives depends on the purity of his mind”.

“The marital happiness in a person depends of the mental purity of that person”.

Krishna had proved that, “The greatness of a person is also due to the mental purity of that person”.

What a wonderful exchange of precious gems for a few fruits given with love!

28. ஆத்மா ராமன் (3)

“ஒரு வழி இருக்கிறது இன்னல் தீர்ந்திட,
திருமகள் கருணையைப் பெறுவது அது!

திருமால் மார்பில் உறைபவள் அவள்,
திருவென்னும் செல்வத்துக்கு அதிபதி!

பூரணச் சந்திரன் போன்ற முகத்தினள்;
கருணையே வடிவாகிக் காக்க வந்தவள்,

வியூக லக்ஷ்மியாக இருந்து தருவாள்,
விஜயம், புகழ், செல்வம் இவை நமக்கு.

முற்பிறப்பில் செய்த பாவங்கள் தீர்ந்திட
பொற் பதங்களைச் சிக்கெனப் பற்றுவாய்!

தாமரை மலரில் அமர்ந்து கொண்டு அவள்
தங்குகிறாள் வேங்கட நாதனின் மார்பில்.”

லக்ஷ்மியின் திருமந்திரத்தை உபதேசித்தார்.
லக்ஷியத்துடன் அவனை ஜபிக்கச் சொன்னார்.

பய பக்தியுடன் பெற்றான் உபதேசம்-அதை
சுய புத்தி மாறாமல் நடந்தான் உச்சரித்து.

சுவாமி புஷ்கரிணியை அடைவதற்குள்
சுலபமாகி விட்டது அந்த மந்திர ஜபம்.

அனைத்துத் தீர்த்தங்களிலும் மேலான
அந்தத் தீர்த்தத்திலும் நீராடினான் அவன்.

அரிய காட்சி தெரிந்தது அருகே வனத்தில்.
அழகிய விமானத்துடன் ஆலயம் ஒன்று.

மண்டபத்தில் குழுமி இருந்தனர் தேவர்;
கண்டான் ஆலயத்தில் அற்புத தரிசனம்.

சங்கு, சக்கரம், கிரீட, குண்டலங்களுடன்
வேங்கடேசன் இருந்தார் தேவியர்களோடு.

கண் கொள்ளாக் காட்சியில் மெய் சிலிர்த்து
தெண்டனிட்டவன் இருந்தான் தடாகம் அருகே!

குறைவற்ற செல்வம் தேடி வந்தது அவனை!
நிறைவான வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்தான் நெடுநாள்.

#28. Aatmaa Raaman (3)

Sage Sanat Kumaar gave his advice. “There is only one way to get out of this difficulty. You have to seek the blessings of Lakshmi Devi – the consort of Lord Naaraayan. Her abode is the broad chest of the lord. She is the goddess of wealth.

She has a beautiful face which will put to shame the full moon itself. She is the personification of mercy. She bestows on her devotees Victory, Fame and Wealth. Catch hold of her lotus feet to get out of the sins you have committed in the past births.”

The sage taught Aatma Raaman the mantra of Lakshmi Devi. He was advised to chant it with a definite purpose. He got the upadesam with humility and walked to the Swaami PushkariNi while chanting the mantra.

He took a dip in the swami PushkariNi and reached its bank. He got a vision in a forest nearby. There appeared a temple with a beautiful vimanam. Its mandapams were filled the Deva.

He had the darshan of lord Venkatesa with his consorts. The lord appeared with his conch, Sudharshan, gem studded crown and makara kundalams. He forgot himself at the beauty and suddenness of this vision.

His prostrated in front of the lord but found himself standing at the bank of the PushkariNi. He became rich once again and lived a life of contentment remembering the grace of Lakshmi Devi and the lord Sreenivaasan.

தானே கொல்ல விரும்பாவிடில், கண்ணன்
தன் பக்தர்கள் மூலம் கொல்வான், தீயோரை!

தீப் பார்வையால் யவனன் எனும் தீயோனைத்
தீர்த்துக் கட்டிய முசுகுந்தனின் கதை இது.

துவாரகையை நிர்மாணித்த கண்ணன்,
யாவருமே கண்டு அதிசயிக்கும்படியாக,

தன் யோக வலிமையால் குடியேற்றினான்
தன் குடிமக்களை, அந்தப் புதிய நகரத்தில்.

பின்னர் நிராயுத பாணியாகவே நடந்தான்,
அண்ணன் பலராமனுடன், மதுராவிலிருந்து.

யவனன் என்னும் கண்ணனின் வைரியும்,
தனியன் ஆகவே அவனைத் தொடர்ந்தான்.

வேகம் அதிகரித்துக் கண்ணன் விரைந்தால்,
வேகமாகவே யவனனும் பின் தொடர்ந்தான்.

ஒரு குகையில் நுழைந்து விட்டான் கண்ணன்;
இருள் குகையில் யவனனும் பின் நுழைந்தான்.

உறங்கும் ஒரு மனிதனிக் கண்டு, அவன்
உறக்கம் கெடுமாறு அவனை எழுப்பினான்.

எழுந்தவன் விழித்த தீப் பார்வை பட்டு,
எரிந்து சாம்பல் ஆகிவிட்டான் யவனன்.

உறங்கியவனே மன்னன் முசுகுந்தன்.
உலகம் அறியும் மாந்தாதாவின் மகன்.

தேவர்களின் சேனைக்கு அதிபதியாகத்
தேவர்களுக்காகப் போர் செய்து ஓய்ந்தவன்.

வேண்டி அவன் பெற்ற வரம் இது ஒன்றே.
வேண்டும் வரையில் உறங்கவேண்டும்.

உறங்குபவனை எழுப்பி எவரேனும்
உபத்திரவித்தால், சாம்பலாகிவிடுவர்.

உறக்கம் கெட்டுத் தனக்கு உதவிய அந்த
உத்தமனுக்கு வரம் அளித்தார் கண்ணனும்.

மறு பிறவியில் அந்தணத் தவசீலனாகி,
மாறா வைகுண்டப் பதவி அடையுமாறு!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

THE FIERY GLANCE!

Whenever Krishna did not want to kill a person by himself, He would get him killed by some one else. KrishnA got DwArakA constructed and transported all his people into the unapproachable city by his Yoga shakthi. He then left MathurA along with BalrAm.

His enemy Yavana saw that Krishna was unarmed and followed Him closely. KrishnA increased his speed and the Yavana did like wise. Finally KrishnA entered a cave and hid Himself. The Yavana also entered the cave and saw a man fast asleep.

He thought that Krishna was pretending to be fast sleep and woke the man up. The moment the man opened his eyes, the Yavana was reduced to ashes.The man who was asleep was Muchukunthan the son of MAndhAthA.

He had led the army of DevAs against the army of AsurAs. On their victory DevAs wanted to confer on him a boon. He said that he was very tired and wanted to sleep to his heart’s delight. The boon was granted that any one who disturbs his sleep will be burned to ashes.’

Krishna blessed Muchukunthaa that he would be born as a holy and austere brahmin in his janmA and attain Moksha.

29. சக்கர ராஜன்

துஷ்டர்கள் சாது ஜனங்களுக்கு நானாவிதக்
கஷ்டங்கள் தந்தனர் முன்பொரு சமயம்.

அசுரர்கள் தபஸ்விக்களின் கர்மங்களைப்
பிசுபிசுக்கச் செய்து துன்புறுத்தி வந்தனர்.

முனிவர்கள் குழுமினர் சேஷாச்சலத்தில்;
கனிவுடன் காட்சி தந்தார் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.

துயரப் பட்டியலைக கேட்ட ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்,
அயரவில்லை அதனைக் கேட்டுச் சற்றும்!

“நிர்பயமாகத் தொடருங்கள் பணிகளை;
அபயம் அளிப்பான் இனிச் சக்கர ராஜன்!”

அனல் விழிகளுடன் அவன் வீசிய சக்கரம்
அழகிய ராஜகுமாரனாக உருவெடுத்தது.

“எட்டுத் திசைகளிலும் சென்று வேரறுப்பாய்
துஷ்டர்களைக் கூண்டோடு!” உத்தரவிட்டார்.

பெற்றான் சக்கர வேந்தன் என்ற பெயரை;
பெற்றான் அழகிய ரதத்தை மானசீகமாக.

பெற்றான் வலிய கரங்கள் ஓராயிரம்!
பெற்றான் அரிய ஆயுதங்கள் ஓராயிரம்!

கிழக்குப் பக்கம் சென்றான் அவன் முதலில்;
அழித்தான் துஷ்டரைக் கேசிமலைக் காட்டில்.

தென் கிழக்குப் பக்கம் சென்றான் அடுத்து;
தேடி துவம்சம் செய்தான் துஷ்டர்களை!

தெற்கு நோக்கிச் சென்றான் சக்ரராஜன்;
துடிப்புடன் எதிர்த்து வந்தனர் அவனை

உக்கிராங்கன், அங்கன், புளிந்தன், காலகன்
முக்தாயிகன் என்ற ஐந்து அரக்கர்கள்.

சதுரங்க சேனையுடன் வந்தவர் கண்டனர்
எதிரில் வருபவன் தன்னந்தனியன் என்பதை!

நகைத்தனர் சக்கர ராஜனைக் கண்டு!
பகைவர் வந்து சூழ்ந்தனர் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து

#29. Chakra Raajan.

Once upon a time, the wicked asura tortured the pious people. The disturbed the yaaga and yagna when they were being performed. The sadhu gathered at Seshaachalam.

Sreenivaasan appeared to them and listened to their tales of woe. But he was not worried by those stories.

He told the sages and sadhus, “Continue your penance, yaga and yagna as before. Chakra Raajan will protect you from those wicked people in the future!”

He threw down his Sudarshan red-eyed and it changed into a handsome prince at once. Sreenivaasan commanded Chakra Raajan, “Go forth in all the directions one after another and rid the earth free of the wicked asuraas!”

Chakra Raajan developed one thousand mighty arms. He procured one thousand weapons used in wars. He got a fine chariot to ride on. He went to the east at first. He destroyed all the wicked people in the mountain Kesi.

Then he went to the South east and destroyed all the wicked people living there. Next he went to the south. Ugran, Angan, PuLindan, Mukthaayikan and Kaalakan were the five asuraas living there.

They came ready for the battle with the their chaturanga senai. They were amused to find Chakra Raajan all alone by himslef with no armt to help him.

They laughed at him and surrounded him completely.
 
[h=1]வரப் பரீட்சை.[/h]

செல்வத்தைப் பெற வேண்டிப் பலர்
தெய்வங்களை ஆராதிக்கின்றனர்.
செல்வம் பெற்ற அவர்களே பிறகு
தெய்வங்களை மறந்துவிடுகின்றனர்.

விருகன் என்னும் அசுரன் மிகவும்
விரும்பி விழைந்ததோர் அற்புதசக்தி.
எவர் தலை மீது கையைக் காட்டினாலும்,
அவர் வெந்து சாம்பலாகிவிட வேண்டும்!

“யாரை நான் உபாசனை செய்வது?”
நாரதரை அணுகியவன் கேட்டான்.
“விரைவில் மன மகிழ்ந்து, வேண்டும்
வரம் தருபவர், பாரில் பரமசிவனே”.

கேதார க்ஷேத்திரத்துக்கு விரைந்து
போனான் விருகாசுரன், அன்றைக்கே!
தன் தசைகளை வெட்டி இட்டு, ஒரு
தன்னிகரில்லா ஹோமம் செய்தான்.

ஆறு நாட்கள் கழிந்த பின்னரும்,
ஆண்டவன் அவனுக்கு இரங்கி
வரவோ, அன்றி அவன் கேட்ட வரம்
தரவோ இல்லை! நொந்து போனான்.

ஏழாம் நாள் தன் தலையையே வெட்ட
எத்தனிகையில் தோன்றினார் ஈசன்.
“வினோதமான வரமே இது, எனினும்
விரும்பும் வரம் தந்தோம்” என்றார்.

‘இருக்க இடம் கொடுத்தவரிடம்
படுக்கப் பாய் கேட்பது’ போலவே
வரத்தை சோதிக்க விரும்பியவன்
வரம் தந்த ஈசனையே நாடினான்.

‘அனர்த்தம் விளையுமே’ என்று
அஞ்சியே சிவன் ஓடத் தொடங்க,
‘விட்டேனா பார்’ என்றே கருவிய
விருகனும் பின் தொடர்ந்தான்.

ரட்சிக்கும் கடவுளையே யாரால்
ரட்சிக்க முடியும்? நாம் அறியோம்!
ஓட்டப் பந்தயத்தைப் பார்த்து விட்ட
ஓங்கி வளர்ந்த வாமன ரூபனும்

அழகிய பிரம்மச்சாரியாக அங்கே
அவர்கள் முன்னே தோன்றினான்.
“இவன் சொல்வதையா நம்புகின்றாய்?
இவன் பிசாசுக் கூட்டத்தின் தலைவன்!

சோதித்துப் பார்போம் நாம் இப்போதே!
சொல்வது பொய்யாகிவிட்டால், நாமே
இவனைக் கொன்று விடுவோம். நீயும்
இப்போதுன் தலைமேல் கையை வை.”

இந்த வார்த்தை ஜாலத்தில் மயங்கி,
அந்தக் கணமே தன் தலை மீது தானே
கையை வைத்ததுதான் தாமதம்!
மெய்யாகவே எரிந்து போய்விட்டான்.

தவம் செய்வார்கள் வரங்கள் பெற;
வரங்கள் பெறுவது வாழ்விப்பதற்கா?
தானும் கெட்டு, அடுத்தவனையும்
தான் துன்புறுத்துவதற்காகவா ?

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

A STRANGE BOON!

People do Tapas seeking various riches and powers.But after receiving those, they forget the God who had bestowed those things on them or they slight Him!

Asuran Vrugan wanted an unique power. If he showed his hand over the head of anybody, that person must be reduced to mere ashes!

He sought the advice of nAradA as to which of the Gods was easy to please and would readily give boons. NAradA said that Siva was easy to please and quick in giving boons.

VrugAsuran went to KEdAra kshetram and started s severe penance. He offered the flesh cut off from his body and performed Homam for six days. Siva did not appear!

On the seventh day he wanted to offer his head in the Homam. When he was about to cut off his head, Siva appeared .Though the boon was strange, Siva blessed him with that strange power.

There is a saying in Tamil” The person allowed to rest on the veranda will demand a mat and a pillow”. Vrugan wanted to test the power of the boon on Siva Himself.

Siva wanted to avoid the unpleasant consequences and started running away. Vrugan followed him with his hand outstretched. They ran through all the worlds.Vishnu watched this running race and appeared tin front of them as a young brahmachari.

He told Vrugan,”Don’t believe the words of Siva. He is the God of spirits and ghosts. We will test His boon. If it does not work, we will kill him! Now put your hand over your head”.

Vrugan was so overwhelmed at the prospect of killing Siva that he put his hand over his head to test the boon. He was reduced to ash in no time.

Why do people perform Tapas and get rare powers?

Is it to help others or to destroy them?
