THE ROPE OF ASH.


A king felt that all the senior citizens were of no use and should be banished. He wanted all his citizens to be young, energetic and active. One wise minister argued with the king that it was a wrong decision, but the king had made up his mind already.


So the minister begged for one month’s time. He announced a strange contest!
Anybody who could bring a rope made of ashes would be awarded 100 gold coins.
A young man brought an ash rope on a plate and won the prize of 100 gold coins.
The minister asked the man to tell the truth about the rope of ash.


The man said it was the idea of his 70 year old father. He had said,” Since we cannot make a rope out of ash, we will make ash out of a rope”. So a rope was burnt on plate to produce the rope of ash.


The minister turned to the king and said, “MaharAj! None of the young, active and agile minds could find a solution to the problem of the ash-rope. It took the wisdom of an old mind to figure it out! Do you still consider that senior citizens are an unnecessary burden on your kingdom?”


The king realized his folly and canceled the royal decree banishing all elders from his country. The people in the country lived happily as before.

12. அபூர்வக் கனவு

இடையர்கள் கண்டனர் மன்னனை;
இயம்பினர் வியத்தகு நிகழ்ச்சிகளை.

“வேங்கட மலையினில் வாழ்பவர்கள் நாங்கள்;
தங்களுக்குப் பால் குடங்கள் எடுத்து வருவோம்.

வழியில் உள்ள புற்றின் அருகே வந்ததும்
வழிந்தோடுகிறது பால் குடங்கள் உடைந்து!

தினமும் நிகழ்கிறது இது போலவே மன்னா!
இனம் புரியவில்லை இதன் காரணம் எமக்கு!”

விந்தையாக இருந்தது சோழ மன்னனுக்கு;
'இந்த நிகழ்வைக் கண்டு பிடிப்பேன் நான்!'

கனவு கண்டான் மன்னன் அன்றிரவு;
கருமை நிற அழகன் ஒருவன் வந்தான்.

கையில் வில், மார்பில் பெண் உருவம்;
“கையுடன் அழைத்து வரச் சொன்னார்

சேஷகிரி ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் தங்களை!” என்றான்.
பேசாமல் அவன் பின் சென்றான் மன்னன்.

சேஷகிரியை அடைந்தனர் இருவரும் – வி
சேஷமான நவரத்தினம் மின்னும் மண்டபம்!

சங்குடன் சக்கரம், மகர குண்டலங்கள்;
பொங்கும் அழகுடைய தேவியர் மூவர்;

கோடி சூரியப் பிரகாசத்துடன் நாரயணன்;
தேடி வந்து கண்ட காட்சியில் உருகினான்!

அள்ள அள்ளக் குறையாத ஆனந்தம்;
மெல்ல மெல்ல மறைந்தது அக்காட்சி.

கனவு என்றே நம்ப முடியவில்லை அவனால்;
நனவு போலவே இருந்தது விழித்த பின்னரும்.

சபா மண்டபத்தில் உரைத்தான் தன் கனவை,
“அபாரமான கனவின் பொருள் என்ன?” என,

ஆழமாகச் சிந்தித்தனர் விசுவாச மந்திரிகள்;
சோழ மன்னனிடம் கூறினர் சிந்தனைகளை.

#12. The dream

A group of cowherds came to the new Chozha king. They has a strange story to tell him.
“We live in the VEnkata giri. We bring you milk in many pots everyday. But when we come near an anthill, the pots get broken and all the milk flows down in waste. This happens everyday in spite of all the care we take. We are unable to find any cause for or explanation this Oh king!”

The king sent them back promising to investigate these strange events. He has an unusual dream on that night. A dark hued handsome man came to him in his dream. He carried a bow and had the image of a beautiful woman on his chest.

He told the king, “Sreenivaasan of VEnkatagiri told me to bring you to him” The king followed the strange man and soon they reached Seshaachalam.


The king saw a mandapam shining with gem studded pillars. He saw Lord Naarayan there with his Conch, Sudarshan, makara kundalams and his three consorts – shining like ten million Suns put together. He forgot himself and pure joy filled his mind and overflowed . The scene faded away soon and he woke up from his sleep.


He could not believe that it was just a dream. It had looked so real and he had felt so happy in it. He described his dream in his Durbar the next morning and asked whether anybody could interpret his dream correctly.

13. வேடுவன்

“இடையர்கள் குடம் உடைவதற்கும், கனவுக்கும்,
தொடர்பு உள்ளது இதில் ஐயம் இல்லை மன்னா!

புற்றிலே உள்ளாரா ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் என்று அறியப்
புற்றுக்குச் செய்வோம் பால்குடம் அபிஷேகம்.

இறைவன் வெளிப்பட்டால் பொருள் விளங்கும்
சிறந்த ஆலயம் கட்டுவிக்க விழைகின்றான் என.”

வேடன் வந்தான் வேந்தனிடம் சேதி சொல்ல.
வேடனின் சேதியைக் கேட்கும் ஆவல் மீறியது!

“புங்கம் விதையை உண்கின்றோம் மாவாக்கி;
எங்கிருந்தோ வருகிறது வெள்ளைஆண் பன்றி.

தின்றுவிட்டுப் போய் விடுகிறது புங்கம் மாவை!
இன்று காவல் வைத்துச் சென்றேன் என் மகனை.

உண்டான் அவன் புங்கம் மாவை வெண்ணையுடன்!
கண்டதும் என் கோபம் எல்லை மீறியது – அவனிடம்

‘பன்றி தின்கிறது என்று உன்னைக் காவல் வைத்தால்
பன்றிக்குப் பதிலாக நீயே தின்கின்றாயா?’ என்றேன்.

கொடுவாளை ஓங்கியபடிப் பாய்ந்த போது – என்னை
நடுங்க வைத்தது இடி போன்று முழங்கிய கர்ஜனை.

‘உண்டார் பரந்தாமன் உங்கள் புங்கம் மாவை,
வெண்ணை கலந்து உங்கள் மகன் உருவினில்!

நேராகச் சென்று கூறு இதை உன் மன்னனிடம்;
வேறு கனவு கண்டிருப்பான் உன் மன்னனும் கூட.’

விளங்கவில்லை என் அறிவுக்கு எதுவுமே மன்னா!
விளம்ப வந்தேன் விவரங்களை உமக்கு!” என்றான்.

“வேடன் கூறுவதற்கும், கண்ட கனவுக்கும், இடையர்
குடம் உடைவதற்கும் தொடர்பு உள்ளது உறுதியாக!”

ஆராய விரும்பினான் திருமலைக்குச் சென்று
பிரதானி, மந்திரிகளுடன் சென்றான் புற்றுக்கு

வேடன் ஓடி வந்தான்; சொன்னான் மன்னனிடம்,
“கூட வந்தால் காட்டுவேன் வெள்ளைப் பன்றியை!”

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி
 
#13. The hunter

The ministers told their king, “There must be some connection between these incidents related by the cowherds and the dream witnessed by you oh king! May be lord Srinivaasan is inside that anthill.

May be he wants us to build a temple for him. We will pour lot of milk on the anthill and see if any Vigraha emerges from it.”


A hunter came to see the king now. He also had a strange story to tell the king. “Oh king! We are hunters living in Seshaachalam.

We grind the pungam seeds and eat its flour with butter as our staple food. But recently a white colored wild boar comes from somewhere and eats up all out pungam flour.


So today when we went out, I left my son to watch over the pungam flour. When we came back home we saw him eating all the flour mixing it with the butter. I became every angry and shouted at him.

“We left you here to guard the flour but you are eating it yourself.” I drew out my weapon and was about to pounce on my son. Suddenly we all got frightened by the asareeri as loud as the thunder claps.


It said,”Stop it you fool! The lord ate the flour and butter in the form of your son. Go and tell this story to your king. He himself would have had a strange dream!” I came here running to tell you, as I was told to do. “


It was clear now that these three were intricately related but how and why nobody knew for sure.


It was decided that they would go with the hunter and investigate the matter immediately.
 
[h=1]29. ஆத்ம தரிசனம்.[/h]
மரம் வெட்டி விற்று, அந்த
வருமானத்தில் வாழ்ந்தான்
சிரமம் நிறைந்த வாழ்க்கை,
சிறு விறகு வெட்டி ஒருவன்.

மகான் கூறினார் அவனிடம்,
“மகனே! நீ காட்டுக்குள் செல்;
செல்வம் கொழித்து, நல்லதோர்
செல்வந்தனாய் ஆகிவிடுவாய்!”

அடுத்த நாள், அந்த விறகுவெட்டி
அடர்ந்த காட்டுக்குள் சென்றபோது,
விலையுயர்ந்த மரக் கூட்டங்களைத்
தொலை தூரம் வரையில் கண்டான்.

தினமும் சிறிது வெட்டி விற்று,
மனம் மகிழ்ந்து வாழலானான்.
“இன்னும் உள்ளே சென்றால்,
என்னென்ன உள்ளதோ?” என்று

கண்டறியச் சென்றான், ஒரு முறை
பண்டு செல்லாத பகுதிகளுக்கு!
தாமிரச் சுரங்கத்தைக் கண்டான்;
கோரிய பொருளைப் பெற்றான்.

இன்னமும் உள்ளே சென்றால்,
இருந்தது வெள்ளிச் சுரங்கம்!
அள்ளிக் கொண்டு வந்தவனுக்கு,
கொள்ளை கொள்ளை மகிழ்ச்சி!

இன்னும் உள்ளே சென்றவன்,
பொன்னும், வைரக்கற்களும் கூடி
மின்னும் சுரங்கத்தைக் கண்டான்.
இன்னும் வேறு என்ன வேண்டும்?

சித்திகள் எட்டும் இவ்வகையே.
யத்தனம் நாம் செய்யச் செய்ய,
புத்தம் புதிதாகக் கிடைக்கும்;
மொத்தமாக அல்ல, என்றுமே!

சக்திகளில் மயங்கி நிற்காமல்,
யுக்தியுடன் தொடர்ந்து சென்றால்,
கிடைக்கும் ஆத்ம தரிசனமும்;
கிடைக்கும் இறையின் தரிசனமும்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
AATMA DHARSHAN.


A wood cutter lived a hard life of a hand to mouth existence.


A compassionate mahAn blessed him and said that he would become very rich if he went farther into the wood.The wood cutter went farther in and saw many trees of great value.


He cut a few branches, sold them and got a lot of money. Next day he went further in and found a copper mine. He brought out the ores and earned more money.


The next day he went in farther and found a silver mine and the next day a mine of gold and then a cave filled with brilliant diamonds.


Spiritual journey is very much similar to the story. Harder we try, farther we go and we get many amazing powers and sidhdhis. But we should be distracted by these.


If we continue with sincerity we will get Atma dharshan and the dharshan of our ishta dEvatA also at the end.

14. ஆலயங்கள்

வேடுவனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தனர் அனைவரும்;
ஓடத் தொடங்கியது பன்றி இருந்த புதரை விட்டு.

வளைந்து, நெளிந்து, புகுந்தோடி வெள்ளைப் பன்றி
நுழைந்து, மறைந்தது ஒரு புற்றுக்குள் திடீரென்று!

“மன்னா! நாங்கள் சொன்ன புற்றும் இதுவே தான்!” என்று
சொனார்கள் இடையர்கள் சோழ மன்னனிடம் அப்போது.

“ஹிரண்யாக்ஷன் பூமியை ஒளித்து வைத்த போது,
தரணியைக் காக்க வந்த வெள்ளைப் பன்றி இதுவே!

புற்றின் அடியில் இருக்க வேண்டும் பகவான் – நாம்
புற்றைத் தோண்டினால் தெரியும் உண்மை!” என்ற

வேடனைக் கடிந்து கொண்டான் சோழ வேந்தன்;
“வேறு வழியில் வெளிப்படுத்துவோம் இறையை!”

பால் குடங்கள் வந்து குவிந்தன அங்கே உடனே!
பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்தான் மன்னன் புற்றுக்கு.

கரைந்தது புற்று; கண்டனர் அதன் உள்ளே
இருந்தது ஆதி வராஹரின் அழகிய உருவம்!

பரவசம் அடைந்துக் கை தொழுது நின்றிருந்த
அரசனிடம் கூறினார் ஆதி வராஹப் பெருமான்.

“சுவாமி புஷ்கரிணியின் அருகே பகவான்
ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் உள்ளான் புளிய மரத்தின் கீழ்!

பூலோகம் வந்துள்ளான் பக்தருக்குஅருள;
புற்று மூடி விட்டது முழந்தாள் வரையில்!

ஆலயம் எழுப்பி ஆராதிப்பாய் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனை.
ஆலயம் எழுப்பு எனக்கும் மேற்குக்கரையில்.”

சென்றனர் அனைவரும் சுவாமி புஷ்கரிணி;
கண்டனர் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனைப் புளிய மரத்தடியில்.

புற்றுக் கரைந்து போனது பால் அபிஷேகத்தால்.
பூரணம் ஆனது பகவானின் திவ்விய தரிசனம்!

“திருமலையில் என்றும் இருந்திட வேண்டும்!”
திரும்பத் திரும்ப வேண்டினான் சோழ மன்னன்.

“திருக் கோவில்கள் அமைத்துத் திருப்பணி செய் !
தினமும் மூன்று காலமும் ஆராதனைகள் செய்!”

கண் கவர் ஆலயங்களை விரைந்து எழுப்பினான்.
விண்ணோரும், மண்ணோரும் வந்து தொழுதனர்.

14. The Temples.

The king went to Seshaachalam along with his ministers and courtiers The hunter came running to them and said, “If you come with me now, I will show you the wild boar, white in color!”

The king and the others followed the hunter. They saw a white boar run away from the bush it had been hiding in. It ran here and there and then disappeared completely after it entered into an anthill.

Now the cowherds told the king, “This is the anthill we were talking about o king!”

The hunter spoke now, “When HiraNyaakshan hid the earth in the paataala, it was this boar which protected and brought the earth up from there. If we dig under the anthill we may find something concrete.”

The king got annoyed at the crude method suggested by the hunter. He said, “We can bring out the hidden things by some better methods”. The cowherds bought pots and pots of milk.

The king poured them on the anthill one by one until the anthill dissolved to reveal the vigraha of Aadi Varaaha moorthy. The king went into ecstasy and the Bhagavan spoke to him now.

” Srinivaasan stands beneath the tamarind tree in Swami PushkariNi. An anthill is hiding him up to his knees. Build a temple for him. Build a temple for me in the western bank of the pond. “

Everyone went to Swami PushkariNi. They saw Srinivaasan standing under the mandarin tree. Milk was poured until the full vigaraham emerged from the anthill. The Chozha king prayed to god, “You mast stay in Tirumala always.”

The king built temples for the two moorthis and arranged for regular pooja, aaraadhana and festivals. The temples were constructed exquisitely. Both Deva and manushya come there to worship the gods.

குருகுலம் ஒன்றை நடத்திய
குருவுக்கு தேவை செல்வம்;
சென்றார் அரசனிடம் அவர்
செல்வம் பெற எண்ணியபடி.

அரசன் பூஜையில் அமர்ந்து,
பரம பக்தியுடன் இறைவனை
அர்ச்சனை செய்ததும், பின்னர்
அவனை இறைஞ்சியதும் கேட்டது.

குரு வெளியே போகலானார்,
சிரித்தபடியே தனக்குள்ளேயே.
குருவைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினான்,
அரசன் மிகவும் திகைப்படைந்து!

“வந்த விஷயத்தை நீங்கள்
எந்த முறையிலும் சொல்லாமல்
சென்றால் எப்படி?” என்று மேலும்
மன்றாடிக் கேட்டுக் கொள்ளவே,

குறு நகை புரிந்தார் அந்த குரு;
புரியாத அரசன் திகைத்தான்!
நடந்ததை அவர் கூறியபோது,
மடமையை அவன் உணர்ந்தான்!

“குருகுலம் நடத்த உன்னிடம்
பொருள் பெறவேண்டி வந்தேன்;
பொருள் பெற வேண்டி, நீயே
இறைவனிடம் யாசித்தாய்!

ஒரு யாசகனை நாடி வந்து,
ஒரு யாசகன் என்ன கேட்பது?
உன்னிடம் கேட்பதைவிடவும்
உலகை ஆள்பவனிடம் கேட்பேன்”

இவர்களுள் யார் நிஜ யாசகன்?
அரசனா அல்லது அந்த குருவா?
இறைவன் முன்பு இங்கு வாழும்
அனைவருமே நிஜ யாசகர்களே!

WHO WAS THE REAL YAACHAKAN?


A guru needed money to run his gurukulam and approached a king to get a fat donation.The king was in his pUjA and the guru heard him beg for money and other riches from God – for running the country’s administration well.


The guru smiled when he heard the king’s prayers decided to go away. When the king learned that the Guru was leaving even without meeting him, he hurriedly stopped the Guru.


The king asked him the purpose of his visit and the guru said,” There is no point in one beggar begging from another beggar. I would rather beg directly from God!”


Who is the real yAchakan…the guru or the king?


We are all yAchakaas when we stand in front of God-the bestower of everything we seek from Him!

15. ஆதிசேஷன்

‘சயனிக்கின்றான் என் மேல் பகவான்;
தயங்காமல் தாங்குகிறேன் உலகினை.

பாக்கியசாலி என் போல் யார் உளர்?
பகவானிடம் நெருங்கிப் பழகுவதற்கு!’

கர்வம் தலை தூக்கியது மனத்தில்,
சர்வம் தனக்குத் தாழ்ந்தவை என்று.

வந்தான் வாயுதேவன் தரிசனத்துக்கு;
“இந்த நேரத்தில் இல்லை தரிசனம்.

ஏகாந்தத்தில் உள்ளார் இறைவன்;
போகவிட மாட்டேன் காண்பதற்கு!”

“என்னைத் தடுக்க முடியுமா உன்னால்?
எங்கும் நிறைந்திருக்கும் காற்று நான்!”

“விரிகிறேன் பாயாக இறைவனுக்கு;
விரிகிறேன் குடையாக இறைவனுக்கு!

ஈடு எவர் பக்தி செய்வதில் எனக்கு?
ஈடு எவர் சேவை செய்வதில் எனக்கு?”

“ஆதாரம் அனைத்துக்கும் காற்று!
அதிகம் என் ஞானம், பக்தி, சக்தி.

பணியாள் நீ; சுதந்திரன் நான்;
உணர்ந்து கொள் வேறுபாட்டை!”

சேஷன் வெகுண்டான் இது கேட்டு!
“சோதிப்போம் யார் பலசாலி என்று!”

உரைத்தனர் இருவரும் தமது கட்சியை;
உன்னினார் இறைவன் மமதையை நீக்க.

#15. Aadhiseshan

“The lord sleeps on my body. I get to move very close with him. I am second to none!” Aadhiseshan became very proud of his close association with Lord Naaraayan. He thought nobody was equal to him.


One day Vaayu came to visit Naarayan. Aadhiseshann stopped him saying, “Lord does not his privacy to be disturbed. You can’t see him now”


Vaayu asked Aadhiseshan, “How can you stop me when I am all pervading.?” Now Adhiseshan boasted about himself. “I become the God’s bed when he wishes to sleep. I become his umbrella when he want to travel. Nobody can serve the lord as well as I do”


Vaayu retorted, “I am the one who keeps every living being alive. I surely have more bhakti, knowledge and power than you. I am my own master but you are no more than a personal servant”


Aadhseshan got angry and challenged Vaayu to take part in a contest to determine who among them was really stronger.

உலகினைத் துறந்தனர் இருவர்;
உறவில் கணவன் மனைவியர்.

கானகம் ஒன்றில் இருவரும்
ஏகும்போது கண்டான் கணவன்,

மின்னும் வைரக்கல் ஒன்றை!
என்ன ஒளிக் கற்றைகள், ஆஹா!

பின்னே வரும் மனைவி அந்த
மின்னும் வைரத்தைக் கண்டால்?

இன்னும் வைராக்கியம் பெறாமல்
என்ன சொல்வாளோ? செய்வாளோ?

பெண் மனதில் ஆசை வைரத்துக்கும்,
பொன்னுக்கும் மறைந்து விடுமா?

நொடியில் குனித்து எடுத்தவன்,
உடையில் மறைப்போமா அல்லது

மண்ணில் புதைப்போமா அதைக்
கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாமல் என்று

தவிக்கும் போது மனைவி கேட்டாள்,
தலையில் ஓங்கி அடித்தாற்போல!

“சிறு கல் ஒன்றையும், வைரத்தையும்
ஒரு போல் எண்ண முடியாத நீங்கள்

சந்நியாசி ஆக விரும்புவானேன்?
சம்சாரத்தை வீணே துறப்பானேன்?”

'என்னைக் காட்டிலும், ஒரு காலத்தில்
பொன்னை விரும்பிய பெண்ணே மேல்!'

WHO WAS THE REAL SANYAASI?

A husband and wife had renounced the world and become sanyaasis. One day they walked through a forest. The man saw a sparkling diamond and was afraid that his wife may lose her vairAgyam and wish to possess it.

So he quickly picked it up wishing to hide it somewhere or bury it before she sees it.

But the wife had already seen what he was trying to do and asked him, “If you can still differentiate a diamond from a pebble, why did you have to become a sanyAsi in the first place?

The man felt ashamed since the woman who had once loved gold and diamonds-before becoming a sanyAsi-had a better vairAgyam than himself.

16. கர்வ பங்கம்

“தொண்டாற்றும் எனக்குச் சக்தி இல்லையாம்!
கொண்டாடுகின்றனர் அனைவருமே என்னை!”

“உனக்கு என்று சக்தி இல்லை அனந்தா – ஆனால்
தனக்கு என்று சக்தி உள்ளவன் வாயு தேவன்.

அனைத்து உயிர்களுக்கும் ஜீவாதாரம் வாயு;
அனைத்து இடங்களிலும் வியாபித்துள்ளான்.

சக்தி அதிகம் உடையவன் வாயு தேவனே!
சந்தேகம் வேண்டாம் உண்மையும் இதுவே!”

“சோதித்துப் பார்க்கலாம் இந்த உண்மையை;
பாதிக்காது நம்மை பலப் பரீட்சை!” என்றான்.

“மேருவை நான் கட்டிக் கொள்கிறேன் – வாயு
வேருடன் பெயர்க்கட்டும் முடிந்தால் அதனை.”

அழுத்திக் கட்டிக் கொண்டான மேரு மலையை,
ஆதிசேஷன் தன் பலத்தை ஒன்றாகத் திரட்டி.

வாயு தேவன் முயன்றான் நகர்த்துவதற்கு;
வாயுதேவனின் முயற்சி வெற்றி பெற்றது.

வேருடன் பெயர்க்கப் பட்டது மேரு மலை!
வேறு இடத்தில் பறந்து சென்று விழுந்தது!

விழுந்த இடம் சுவர்ணமுகி தீர்த்தம் – அங்கு
விழுந்த சேஷன் மலையாகக் கிடக்கின்றான்!

சேஷகிரி ஆகிவிட்டது அந்த மலை – அதன் பின்
சேஷனின் கர்வம் சென்ற இடம் தெரியவில்லை.

நீராடினான் கோனேரித் தீர்த்தத்தில் ஆதிசேஷன்,
நாக தீர்த்தத்தை அடைந்தான் பிறகு சென்று.

தவம் செய்தான் தீவிரமாக நாராயணன் மீது;
தவம் பலித்து நாராயணன் தரிசனம் தந்தான்.

“மன்னித்து எழுந்தருள வேண்டும் என் மீது;
மக்களுக்கு என்றும் அருள் புரிய வேண்டும்;”

கோனேரியில் எழுந்தருளினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்;
கோரிக்கையை நிறைவேற்றுகிறான் இன்றும்!

#16. Garva Bangam
Lord Naraayan came out hearing this argument. Aadhiseshan complained to him saying,”Vaayu says he has more power than I who serve you my lord so well”

Lord Naaraayan replied. “He spoke the truth Anantaa! You have no power of your own but Vaayu has his own power. He keeps alive everyone and everything. He pervades everywhere. Surely he is more powerful than you.”

But Aadhiseshan would not accept this to be true – until it was proved to be true. He said, “A simple trial of strength will not hurt us and will bring out the truth. I will hold on to the mount Meru tightly and let Vaayu try to push it away with his strength. “

Vaayu agreed to this. Aadhiseshsan coiled himself round the mount Meru and held it down with all his might. Vayuu tried to blow it away . The mountain gave away and it got thrown off by the power of Vaayu.The mount Meru fell near Swarnamukhi theertham.

Aadhiseshan felt humiliated by his defeat and changed in to a mountain. It became the Seshagiri and his pride vanished like the dew drops in the morning sun.

He bathed in the Koneri theertham and went to the Naaga theertham. He did penance on Lord Naaraayan. When the lord gave him his darshan he prayed for a boon. “Pardon my ignorance and arrogance. Please reside on me and continue to bless your devotees”

The lord agreed and resided on the Seshagiri as Sreenivaasan. To this day he is blessing his all devotees and answering all their prayers.

கடும் தவங்களை இயற்றி
அரும் சக்திகளைப் பெற்று,
அகங்காரம் கொண்டுவிட்ட
மகானிடம் வந்தான் ஒருவன்.

“ஐயா! தங்களால் செய்வதற்கு
இயலாதது ஏதுமில்லை அன்றோ?”
குறுநகையுடன் கூறினார் மகான்,
“வெறுமனே எதற்கு வெட்டிப்பேச்சு?

வேண்டுமானால் சோதியுங்கள்,
வேண்டும் விதங்களில் நீங்கள்!”
காட்டில் தோன்றியது ஒரு யானை;
“கொல்ல முடியுமா அந்த யானையை?”

கையால் ஜபித்த ஜலத்தை, யானை
மெய்யில் தெளித்ததும், கூக்குரலுடன்
மண்ணில் விழுந்து புரண்டபடியே
மாண்டே போய்விட்டது யானை!

“யானையைப் பிழைக்க வைக்கவும்
இயலுமா உங்களால், கூறுங்கள்!”
தெளித்த ஜலம் மேலே பட்டதுமே
தெளிவாய் எழுந்து நின்றது யானை!

பெருமையுடன் சிரிப்பவரிடம்,
அருமையான கேள்வி கேட்டார்,
“யானை இறந்து பிழைத்தால்
யாது பயன் உமக்கு? கூறும்!

இத்தனை கடும் தவத்தையும்
மொத்தமாக வீணடித்தீரே நீர்!
இறைவனுக்கு அர்ப்பணித்திருந்தால்,
இறையுடனேயே கலந்திருக்கலாமே!”

முகத்தில் அறைந்ததைப் போல
முதல் முறையாக உணர்ந்தார்;
வாழ்நாட்களை எல்லாவற்றையும்
வீண் நாட்கள் ஆக்கிவிட்ட தபஸ்வி!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,

MIRACULOUS POWERS.

A man did severe tapas and gained several unusual powers. He became very proud of his powers.One day another man approached him and asked,”Revered sire! Can you perform miracles?”

The tapasvi replied, ” You may test me in any way you deem fit.I can prove my special powers.” The man now asked the tapasvi,” Can you kill the elephant standing over there?”

The tapasvi after the utterance of a mantrA, threw some water on the elephant. It immediately fell down quite dead.

The man now asked the tapasvi,” Can you bring back the elephant to life?”

After the utterance of another mantraa the tapasvi threw some water on the elephant and brought it back to life.

The man asked the tapasvi,” What is the use of killing and bringing back to life an elephant, when you could have used your tapas for gaining mOkshA?”.

The tapasvi felt sheepish for having wasted all his life in such a useless tapas.

17. சரஸ்வதியின் தவம்

“புண்ணிய தீர்த்தங்கள் அனைத்திலும்
புனிதமானவள் ஆக வேண்டும் நான்”

நதி வடிவாகி தியானித்தாள் சரஸ்வதி;
விதி விளையாடியது அவள் தவத்தில்.

புலஸ்தியர் வந்தார் சரஸ்வதி தேவியிடம்;
புலஸ்தியர் தன்னுடைய மகன் என்பதால்

உபசரிக்கவில்லை சரஸ்வதி சரியாக,
அபசாரமாகக் கருதிவிட்டார் முனிவர்.

“எல்லாத் தீர்த்தங்களிலும் சிறந்ததாகும்
பொல்லாத கனவு இல்லாது போகட்டும்.

அறிந்தவர்கள் அனைவரும் கூறுவார்,
திரிபததை தீர்த்தமே சிறந்தது என்பதை”

தடையானான் மகனே தவத்துக்கு;
உடைந்து போனாள் சரஸ்வதி தேவி.

“பரந்தாமனுக்கு எதிரியாக அசுரனாகப்
பிறவி எடுப்பாய் நீ!” என்று சபித்தாள்.

“சாப விமோசனம் எப்போது?” என்று
சாந்தம் அடைந்த புலஸ்தியர் கேட்டார்.

“ராமனாக அவதரிப்பார் நாரணன் – நீ
ராவணன் தம்பி விபீஷணன் ஆவாய்!

இறைவனின் நட்புக் கிடைக்கும் – அதனால்
சிரஞ்சீவியாக இருப்பாய் உலகில் என்றும்!”

கருடாரூடராக வந்தார் நாராயணன்;
“சிறந்த தீர்த்தமாக அனுகிரஹியுங்கள்!”

“புலஸ்தியர் சாபத்தால் கிடைக்காது அது!
புஷ்கரிணியாக வேங்கடத்தில் இருந்து வா!

லக்ஷ்மியும் நானும் வாசம் செய்வோம் – ஒரு
லக்ஷியத்துடன் உன் தீர்த்தக் கரையினில்!

நீராடுவர் பக்தர்கள் தனுர் மாதத்தில்,
சூரியோதயத்தில், சுக்கில துவாதசியில்.

பாவங்கள் தீர்க்கும் புஷ்கரிணியாகிப்
பாரினில் நீ விரும்பும் புகழ் பெறுவாய்!”

வேங்கடத்தில் ஸ்வாமி புஷ்கரிணியாகி
வேண்டிய மகிமைகள் பெற்றாள் சரஸ்வதி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
#17. Saraswati Devi's penance

Saraswati Devi wished to become the holiest of all the holy theertams. She did penance in the form of a river. But fate smashed her dreams in a very strange manner.

Sage Pulastiyar came to visit her. The sage was one of the sons of Brahma. So Saraswati did not bother to welcome him as if he were a special guest. The sage felt humiliated and cursed her thus,

“You wish to become the holiest of all the holy theertams. But it will never be so. Everyone knows that the Tripadagai which flows down from the lotus feet of the lord is the holiest of all the holy waters. “

Saraswati felt sad that her own son would curse her thus smashing all her dreams. She cursed him in return, “May you be born as an enemy of lord Naaraayan among the ausra.”

Now Pulastiyar felt remorse and calmed down. He begged for a saapa vimochanam. Saraswati Devi told him, “You will be born as a good asura and as VibheeshaNa the younger brother of RavaNa. You will form close friendship with the lord and You will become a Chiranjeevi”

Saraswati continued her penance. Lord Naaraayan appeared to her. She wished to become the holiest of holy waters, but lord told her,” It will not be possible because of the curse the sage Pulastiyar.

But you will become the Swaami PushkariNi in Venkata giri. I and Lakshmi Devi will reside on your banks for a specific purpose.

All my devotees with bathe in the Swaami PushkariNi on Sukla dwadasi day in Dhanur maasam at sunrise to wash away all their sins. You will become the holy water which will rid my devotees of all their past sins.”

Saraswati became the Swami PushkariNi in Venkata giri and became famous in her own right.
 
[h=1]நாரதரின் நரகம்.[/h]

நாரதர் ஒரு நாள் தன் துடுக்குத்தனத்தால்
நாராயணனையும் கோபமூட்டிவிட்டார்.

சாந்த ஸ்வரூபியான இறைவனும்,
சாந்தம் கலைந்து முனியைச் சபித்தார்,

“நரகத்தில் நீ விழுந்து புரள்வாய்”என்று!
நாரணன் வாக்குப் பொய்யாகலாகுமா?

இடியுண்ட நாகம்போல நடுங்கினாலும்,
இறைவனிடம் கேட்டார் “எது நரகம்?”

நாராயணனும், நிலத்தில் மண்மீது
சீரான வரைபடம் ஒன்றை வரைந்தார்.

பிரபஞ்சம் முழுவதும் அங்கே அழகிய
பிரசித்தி பெற்ற படமாக உருவானது.

நரகத்தைச் சுட்டிக் காட்டிய இறைவன்,
‘நரகம்’ எனப் பெயரையும் எழுதினான்.

“இதுவா நரகம்? இதுதானே நரகம்?
இப்போதே நான் அதில் புரள்கின்றேன்!”

மண்ணில் வரைந்த படத்தில் உள்ள
மண் நரகத்தில் புரண்டார் முனிவர்.

“ஏய்க்கின்றீர் நீர்! இதுவா நரகம்?
துய்க்க வேண்டும் தண்டனையை!”

“தாங்களே வரைந்தீர்கள் பிரபஞ்சத்தை!
தாங்களே நரகத்தையும் வரைந்துவிட்டு,

தாங்களே அதன் பெயரையும் எழுதினீர்!
தங்கள் வாக்குப் பொய்யாகலாகுமா ஐயனே?”

நாரணனுக்கே நகைப்பு வந்துவிட்டது.
நாரதரை தண்டிப்பதும் கூடக் கடினமே!

NARADA’S NARAKAM.

nAradA can at times be really trying other people’s patience – with his naughty behavior. On one such occasion Lord NArAyanA lost His temper and cursed nAradA to tossed into the Hell.

nAradA was shivering with fear since Lord’s words cannot go in waste. He would have to face the narakam. He told the Lord,”I have never been to narakam. Swami please kindly show me where it is located”

Lord drew a picture of the Universe on the ground in front of Him and showed where narakam was located. nAradA asked him to pin point the place. Lord wrote the name narakam on its location in the map.

nAradA exclaimed,”So this is narakam. This is the narakam where I am to be tossed.” He tossed himself on that spot and rolled as if in pain.

Lord told nAradA, You are trying to cheat me and escape the punishment. This is not narakam. This is only a map”

nAradA told the Lord, “Your words can never become asathyam. You drew the map and labeled this spot as narakam. So it has become narakam already. I too have exhausted my punishment in Narakm.”

Lord forgot his anger and burst out laughing – since it is was very difficult even to punish nAradA.
