#28a. காசி க்ஷேத்ரம்

நிலம் சிறப்புப் பெறும் வேறு வேறாக
ஸ்தலம், தீர்த்தம், மூர்த்தி இவற்றால்!

மூர்த்தி, தீர்த்தம், ஸ்தலம் என்னும்
மூன்றிலும் சிறந்தது காசி க்ஷேத்ரம்.

அவிமுக்தம் என்பது அதன் ஸ்தலம்;
அதன் தீர்த்தம் மணிகர்ணிகை ஆகும்;

விசுவநாதர் அங்கு விளங்கும் மூர்த்தி;
பூசிப்பவர் பெறுவார் புருஷார்த்தங்கள்!

தொழுவர் ஈசனை இங்கு தேவர்களும்;
தொழுவர் ஈசனை இங்கு மனிதர்களும்.

விஷ்ணு பூஜித்தார் ஈசனை இங்கே,
விசுவநாதர் மனம் குளிர்ந்து மகிழ.

பாதாளம் வரைத் தோண்டிய தடாக நீரை
தாராளமாக எடுத்து அபிஷேகம் செய்தார்.

முக்தி தரும் ஈசன் காட்சி தந்தான் அங்கே
பக்திக்கு மெச்சி காளை வாஹனம் மீது.

தலையை அசைத்துத் துதிகளைக் கேட்கக்
குலுங்கின செவியில் குண்டலங்கள்.

ஒரு மணி உதிர்ந்து விழவே தடாகம்
திருப் பெயர் பெற்றது மணிகர்ணிகை!

பகீரதன் தவம் செய்து கங்கையை
பாகீரதியாகச் சேர்த்தான் அந்த நீரில்.

முனிவரின் கனிவான ஆசிகள் பெற்று,
அன்னையும் மகனும் சென்றனர் காசி!

#28A. Kaasi

Any Land becomes auspicious due to the presence of three factors. Sthalam, Theertham and Moorthi add value to any holy kshethram. Kaasi is famous for all these three factors.

Avimuktam is the name of the sthalam, MaNikarNikai is the name of the theertham and Viswanaathar is the moorthi there. Those who worship the lord here will get the chatur vidha purushaartham.

The Deva come and worship Lord Siva here. The humans also come here to worship Lord Siva. Once Vishnu did aaraadhanaa to Siva here. Vishnu dug a pond as deep as the paataala and used the water liberally to do abhishekham to Viswanaathar.

Vishnu sang songs of praise and Lord Siva listened to them with pleasure moving his head to suit the music. A bell from his kundalam fell into the water below and the thadaagam go the name MaNikarNikai.

Bhageerathan did tapas and brought down Ganaga to merge with this water as Bhaageerathi. The sage Kruchchadamar spoke of the greatness of Kasi. Keerthi and Kippira Prasaad were duly impressed and left for Kasi right away.



 
#28b. பரசு பாணி

காசி சென்றனர் கீர்த்தியும் மகனும்,
பூசித்துத் துண்டி விநாயகர் அருள்பெற.

மணிகர்ணிகையில் நீராடுவர் அனுதினம்,
பணிந்து போற்றுவர் துண்டி விநாயகரை.

மாசி மாத அமர பக்ஷ சதுர்த்தி வந்தது!
ஆசையுடன் விடியலில் புனித நீராடினர்.

நான்கு எழுத்து மந்திரத்தை ஜெபித்தனர்;
வன்னி மரத்தடியில் அமர்ந்து கொண்டு.

சந்திரன் உதிக்கும் வேளையில் வன்னி இலை,
மந்தார மலர், அறுகம் புல்லால் அர்ச்சனை.

ஐந்து முகங்களுடனும் பத்து புஜங்களுடனும்
வந்து காட்சி தந்தார் விநாயகப் பெருமான்.

"குமாரனுக்கு எந்த ஆபத்தும் வரக் கூடாது
குமாரன் பூரண ஆயுள் வாழ அருளும்!" என

"சகல பாக்கியங்களும் பெறுவான் இவன்,
சகல கீர்த்திகளையும் அடைவான் இவன் !

ஆயிரம் யாகங்கள் செய்வான் இவன் "
அனுக்ரஹம் செய்தார் விநாயகர்.

கரத்தில் அளித்தார் தன் வஜ்ராயுதத்தை;
பரசு பாணி என்ற புதுப் பெயர் இட்டார்.

தாயும், மகனும் திரும்பினர் தம் நாடு;
தந்தை எதிர்கொண்டு வரவேற்றான்.

மகன் வளர்ந்த பின்னர் பிரியவிரதன்
மகனை மன்னனாக முடி சூட்டினான்.

ஹஸ்தி முகன் அருளால் கிப்பிரப் பிரசாதன்
ஸஹஸ்ர யாகம் செய்து நீடூழி வாழ்ந்தான்.

#28b. Parsu PaaNi

Keerthi and her son Kippira Prasaad went to Kasi kshetram. They would worship ThuNdi Vinayaka and seek his grace. Every day they took a holy dip in the MaNikarNikai theertham and did aaraadhaana to ThuNdi Vinayaka.

It was the Amara paksha chathurthi of Maasi maasam on that day. They took the holy dip and were doing aaraadhanaas ususal. They did archanai with vanni patram, mandaara flowers and green grass under a vanni tree just as the moon rose.

The Lord Vinayaka appeared to them with his five brilliant faces and ten impressive bujam. Keerthi prayed to the lord,"Please remove all the dangers away from my son. Please bless him with a poorna ayush and a long happy life. I seek nothing else"

Vinayaka blessed the boy and said," Your son will receive all the good things in life. He will become very famous in his time. He will preform one thousand yagnas. " Vinayaka gave the child his own parasu and named his as Parasu PaaNi.

Keerthi and her son returned to their kingdom. The king Priyavrathan received them and was happy that everything ended well. When his son was of the right age, the king made him the new king. Kippira prasad who had won the grace of ThuNdi Vinayakar lived a long fruitful life and performed one thousand yagnas.



 
#28c. கனவு

பிரமன் தொடர்ந்தார் மன்னன் தந்தையிடம்,
"பித்ரு உலகத்தில் இருந்து வந்துள்ளீர் நீர்.

பிள்ளை பிறப்பதற்கு வழி ஒன்று கேட்டீர்.
பிள்ளை பிறக்கும் விரதம் அனுஷ்டித்தால்!

சதுர்த்தியில் வைக்க வேண்டும் ஒரு கலசம்,
முதல், ஐந்தாவது அல்லது ஏழாவது மாதம்.

ஸ்தாபிக்க வேண்டும் அதன்மேல் இயந்திரம்.
ஸ்தாபிக்க வேண்டும் ஒரு விநாயகர் பிரதிமை.

ஆகுதி செய்த குறுணி எள், பிற வஸ்துக்களை
அளிக்க வேண்டும் தானமாகப் பலருக்கு.

இருபத்தொரு அந்தணருக்கு உணவளித்தபின்
அருந்த வேண்டும் தன் உணவை விரதகர்த்தா.

பிரதிமை, இயந்திரங்களை ஆச்சாரியாருக்கு
விரத முடிவில் தானம் செய்ய வேண்டும்.

விநாயகருக்கு உகந்த விரதம் இதுவே.
அநாதிகாலம் தொட்டு செய்கின்றார்கள்."

அத்தனை விஷயங்களையும் தெளிவாகப்
புத்தகத்தில் பதிவு செய்தார் தந்தையார்.

கடுமையான தவம் செய்யும் மகனிடம்
கொடுத்தார் அவன் கனவில் தோன்றி.

"சதுர்த்தி விரதம் ஒன்றே வழி உனக்குச்
சந்ததிகள் பிறந்து குலம் செழிப்பதற்கு.

அந்தணரைக் கொண்டு அந்த விரதம் செய்.
இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் அதன் விதிமுறைகள்."

கண் விழித்த கிருதவீர்யன் கண்டான் தந்தை
கனவில் தந்த புத்தகத்தைத் தன் கைகளில்.

'கனவு வெறும் கனவு அல்ல' ...உணர்ந்தான்!
'நனவாகும் வேளை வந்தது'... மகிழ்ந்தான்!

மனைவியுடன் திரும்பினான் தன் நாட்டுக்கு;
இனிச் செய்ய வேண்டியது சதுர்த்தி விரதம்.

#28c. The dream

Brahma continued to talk to Kritha Veeryan's father. "You have come down here from Pithru lokam. You asked me for an advice to get santhathi through your son. Observing the Chathurti vratham will yield the desired result.

You must establish a kalasam in the first, fifth or seventh month of the vratham. A yantram and a pratima of Vigneswara must be established on the kalasam. Til and other things must be offered to many people as daanam.

Twenty one Brahmans must be fed an elaborate feast and only after that the kartha of the vratham must eat his food.
The yantram and the pratimai must be donated to the acharya at the end of the vratham.

There is nor greater vratham to please Vinayaka than this chathurti vratham"

The father wrote down al the instructions clearly in a book. He appeared in the dream of his son and said,"If you observe chathurti vratham you will be blessed with a son. All the instruction are recorded in this book. Take the help of the learned brahmins and perform the vratham"

Krutha veeryan woke up from the dream and was surprised to see the book of instructions in his hands. He knew that the dream was not an idle dream.

The time had come for him to make the dream come true by returning to his country and performing the chathurti vratham immediately
 
#28d. கார்த்த வீர்யன்

தந்தான் வேதம் கற்ற அந்தணரிடம்,
தந்தையார் தந்த அந்தப் புத்தகத்தை.

"சங்கட சதுர்த்தி விரத விதிகள் இவை,
பங்கம் இல்லாமல் நடத்தித் தாருங்கள்!"

மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர் அந்த அந்தணர்கள்;
நெகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினர் கிருதவீர்யனிடம்;

"கரிமுகனுக்குப் பிரியமான விரதம் பற்றி
அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை நாங்கள் இதுவரை.

பிரமன் வகுத்த விதிமுறைகளின் பலனாக
விரதம் சந்ததியை அளித்திடும் அரசே!"

தொடங்கியது விரதம் ஒரு நன்னாளில்,
தொடர்ந்தது தடங்கல் இன்றி ஓராண்டு.

தானம் அளித்தான் பலவிதப் பொருட்களை;
தானம் அளித்தான் பதினாயிரம் பசுக்களை.

கருவுற்றாள் சுகந்தை வெகு விரைவில்,
திருமகன் தோன்றினான் சுகந்தையிடம்.

நல்ல காந்தியுடன் இருந்தது குழந்தை;
இல்லை கைகளும், கால்களும்! அந்தோ!

ஞானவிநாயகனைத் தொழுது பெற்றது
ஊனமுற்ற ஒரு குழந்தையையா? பாவம்!

குறையை நீக்குவான் இறைவன் என்று
குறையாத நம்பிக்கையுடன் இருந்தனர்.

தத்தாத்திரேயர் வந்தார் கிருதவீர்யனிடம்,
தவப் புதல்வனின் நிலையைக் கூறினான்.

"உன் மகனைக் காணவே வந்துள்ளேன்!
என்னிடம் எடுத்துவா உன் மகனை!" என

ஊனமுற்ற பாலகனைக் கொணர்ந்து,
ஞானமுனிவர் காலடியில் வைத்தான்.

"வெறும் குழந்தையல்ல உன் மகன்!
பிறந்துள்ளான் உன் வம்சம் விளங்க!"

ஏகாக்ஷரத்தை உபதேசித்தார் குழவிக்கு.
நாவாற அழைத்தார் கார்த்தவீர்யன் என!

#28d. Kaarthaveeryan

Kruthaveeryan gave the book of instructions to the learned brahmins and requested them to perform the chathurthi vratham as per the prescribed rules.

The brahmins were happy to learn about the vratham since they had never heard about it earlier. They were sure that the King and Queen would be blessed with a worthy son after observing the vratham.

The vratham was started on an auspicious day and continued for one year without any break or hurdles, as per the instructions. Kruthaveeryan donated many things and ten thousand milch cows as gift to brahmins.

The queen conceived immediately after the vratham. She delivered a male child in due course. The child was bright and brilliant but did not have either hands or legs. The king and queen were crestfallen that after performing the tough vratham they could get only a defective baby.

Dhaththaathreya came to meet the king. Kruthaveeryan told him the condition of his son. The sage wanted to have a look at the baby. He consoled the king,

"Do not feel sorry that your child is defective. He is not an ordinary child. He is born to bring glory to your race.'"

He taught the baby ekaaksharam and named him as Kaarthaveeryan.


 
#28e. பவழ விநாயகர்

குழந்தை பேசினான் அதிசயிக்கும்படி!
"இழந்ததைப் பெற வேண்டும் நான்!

கானகத்தில் கொண்டு விடுங்கள்;
ஊனம் நீங்கித் திரும்புவேன் இங்கு.

ஏகாக்ஷர மந்திரத்தை ஜெபிப்பேன்;
ஏகாந்தத்தில் அருள் பெறும் வரை."

மனம் ஒப்பவில்லை விடுவதற்கு;
மன உறுதி தளரவில்லை மகனுக்கு.

கானகத்தில் விட்டு வந்தான் மகனை.
மோனத் தவம் செய்தான் குழந்தை.

பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் உருண்டோடின!
பச்சிளம் பாலகன் இப்போது ஒரு சிறுவன்.

விடாமல் செய்த தவம் பலித்தது அன்று.
தடாகத்தில் காட்சி தந்தார் விநாயகர்.

வணங்க விரும்பினான் ஓடிச் சென்று.
வணங்கினான் தன் மனத்தால் விழுந்து.

"என்ன வேண்டும் கூறு கார்த்தவீர்யா!"
"என் நிலைமையைப் பாருங்கள் சுவாமி."

"அற்புதக் கரங்கள் தோன்றும் ஓராயிரம்.
நிற்கவும், நடக்கவும் வலிய இரு கால்கள்.

கற்பக் காலம் நீடூழி வாழ்வாய் நீயும்
நற்பணிகள் பல நூறு புரிவாய்!" என

மாயமாகத் தோன்றின ஆயிரம் கரங்கள்;
நேயத்துடன் தோன்றின இரண்டு கால்கள்.

ஆலயம் எழுப்பினான் அதே இடத்தில்.
அமைத்தான் அதில் பவழ விநாயகரை.

பவழத்தால் ஆன விநாயகரால் தலம்
பவழவனம் என்னும் பெயர் பெற்றது.

#28e. The Coral Ganapathi

The child spoke with surprising maturity. "I must get back what I have lost. Please take me to the forest. I will return only after getting my arms and legs. I will do penance with ekaakshara mantram until lord Vinayaka takes pity on me"

The child was too young to be left in the forest but he was determined to have his way. The child was taken to the jungle. Kaarthaveeryan did penance on Vinayaka with the ekaakshara mantram with undivided attention for twelve long years.

Vinayaka appeared in a pond near by. Kaarthaveeryan wanted to prostrate in front of Vinayaka but could not move. He did many namaskars mentally.

"What do you wish for Kaarthaveerya?" Vinayaka asked him. "Look at my sad plight my lord!" the boy replied.

"Do not worry child. You will grow one thousand strong arms and two mighty legs now. You will live a long and fruitful life. You will do many good things in your life" Vinayaka blessed the boy who was without arms and legs.

Lo and behold there appeared one thousand strong arms and two strong legs on the boy now. He was so happy that he built a temple right there and established a coral Ganapathy in the temple.

The place itself came to be known as the Coral garden (pavazha vanam) later on.



 
#28f. தரணிதர விநாயகர்

பூபாரம் தாங்குபவன் ஆதிசேஷன்;
பூபாரம் தாங்கும் திறன் நலிந்தது!

நாடினான் பவழ விநாயக மூர்த்தியை;
வேண்டினான் பூபாரம் தாங்கும் சக்தியை!

தரணியைத் தாங்கும் ஆதிசேஷனால்
தரணிதர விநாயகர் ஆகிவிட்டார் இவர்.

நன்மைகள் பல பெற்றான் ராவணன்,
பண்புடன் பவழவிநாயகரைத் தொழுது!

பாண்டவர்கள் பெற்றனர் நன்மைகள்,
பவழ விநாயகரை ஆராதித்த பயனாக!

தேவேந்திரன் மீண்டும் கூறினான்,
"தேவை சதுர்த்தி விரதத்தின் பலன்.

சங்கட சதுர்த்தி விரதம் செய்பவரை
எங்கிருந்தாலும் அழைத்து வருவாய்.

பண்ணிய ஒரு சதுர்த்தி விரதத்தின்
புண்ணியத்தைத் தத்தம் செய்தால்,

விண்ணிலிருந்து இறங்கிய விமானம்
மண்ணிலிருந்து விண்ணில் எழும்பும்!"

"சங்கட சதுர்த்தி விரதம் செய்பவர்
எங்கிருந்தாலும் அழைத்து வருக!"

தூதரை அனுப்பினான் சூரசேனன்;
தூதர்கள் சென்றனர் வீடு வீடாக!

28f. Dharani dhara Vinaayakar

Adhiseshan bears the earth on his head. His powers reduced. He prayed to the Coral Vinayaka and got back his strength. The Coral Vinayaka got a new name Dharani dhara Vinayaka.

Ravana worshiped the Coral Vinayaka and got his wishes fulfilled. The Paandavaas worshiped the Coral Vinaka and benefitted from that.

Indra told the king Soorasenan, "I need some one who performs the chathurti vratham. If he gives off the punya earned by performing one chathurthi vratham, it will make the vimaanam rise in the sky."

The king Soorasenan instructed his messengers, "Go forth from house to house and locate a person who performs the chathurti vratham!" The messengers went on that mission from house to house.

 
#29a. சுந்தரி

வீடு வீடாகச் சென்று விசாரித்த தூதர்கள்
வியப்புடன் கண்டனர் ஒரு விமானத்தை.

தரையில் இறங்கியது திவ்யவிமானம்;
நெருங்கிச் சென்றனர் விவரம் அறிந்திட .

சண்டாள ஸ்த்ரீயை திவ்ய சரீரத்துடன்
கண்டதும் ஆழ்ந்தனர் வியப்புக் கடலில்!

"சண்டாளப் பெண்ணுக்கு மகத்துவமா?
விண்ணுலக வாழ்வு என்னும் பரிசா?"

தூதர்கள் கேட்டனர் கேள்விகள் பலவற்றை;
தேவகணங்கள் உரைத்தனர் இக்கதையை!

சாரங்கன் ஆண்டான் வங்காள தேசத்தை,
பார் புகழும் அழகி அவன் மகள் சுந்தரி!

சித்திரன் மனந்தான் அழகி சுந்தரியை;
சத்ரு ஆகிவிட்டாள் ரூபவதி பார்யா.

கண்டவர் மனம் மயங்கும் தன் அழகினால்,
கொண்டவனுக்குத் துரோகம் இழைத்தாள்!

கூடிக் களித்து வந்தாள் பரபுருஷர்களுன்;
ஆடிப் போய்விட்டான் அறிந்த சித்திரன்.

"ஒழுக்கம் தவறி நடந்தால் இரக்கமின்றி
அழித்துவிடுவேன் உன்னை" எச்சரித்தான்.

உரிக்கு உரி தாவும் ருசி கண்ட பூனை!
'உல்லாச வாழ்வுக்கு உலை வருமோ?

தன்னைக் கொல்வதாகக் கூறியவனைத்
தானே முதலில் கொன்று விட்டால்...!'

உறங்கும் கணவனின் தலையைச் சுந்தரி
அறுத்துத் தள்ளித் தப்பிச் சென்று விட்டாள்.

உண்மை அறிந்த காவலர் சிறைசெய்து
தண்டிக்க நிறுத்தினர் சாரங்கன் முன்பு!

மகள் என்றும் நினைக்கவில்லை மன்னன்,
முகத்தையும் ஏறெடுத்துப் பார்க்கவில்லை!

"பாவியின் தலையைக் காட்டில் சென்று
சீவித் தள்ளு!" என்று ஆணை இட்டான்.

#29A. Sundari

The messengers went from house to house as per the king's orders. They saw a vimaanam landing on the ground. They went closer to find out the details about it. They were surprised to see a chandaaLa sthree in the vimaanam with a heavenly body.

"What made this lowly woman get a divya sareeram and a place in heaven?" the messengers demanded to know and the Deva ganaas replied thus,

"Saarangan ruled over the VangaaLa desam. He had the prettiest daughter aptly named as Sundari. She was a world class beauty no doubt. The king got her married to a suitable young man called Chithran.

But Sundari was not loyal to her husband . She was proud of her beauty and enjoyed with all kinds of men the carnal pleasures.

Chithran was devastated to know this truth. He warned her, "You are a king's daughter and my lawfully wedded wife. If you behave in this manner unbecoming of your status, I will kill you with my own hands!"

Sundari had got used to her life of pleasures. She was worried that it might come to a halt because of the interference from her husband. She decided to kill him before he could kill her.

She severed the head of her sleeping husband and escaped. But the truth was known before long. She was traced by the soldiers, arrested and brought before King Saarangan.

He had no sympathy for this kind of a daughter nor would even look at her face. He ordered to his men "Take this sinner to a forest and chop off her head mercilessly!"
 
#29b. சண்டாள ஸ்த்ரீ

பாவங்களுக்கு உழன்றாள் நரகத்தில்,
பாவம் கழியவில்லை காலம் கழிந்தும்.

தண்டனையைப் பூர்த்தி செய்ய மீண்டும்
சண்டாளப் பெண் ஆனாள் மண்ணுலகில்.

காலையில் எழுந்ததும் கள் அருந்தினாள்;
காலைப் பொழுது கழிந்தது போதையில்!

போதை தெளிந்ததும் அகோரப் பசியால்
போனாள் உணவைத் தேடிய வண்ணம்.

தெருவில் வந்து விழுந்தன நிறைய
விருந்து உண்ட எச்சில் இலைகள்.

பசிக்கு ஏது ருசியும் பல விதிகளும்?
புசித்தாள் எச்சில் உணவைத் திரட்டி!

சதுர்த்தி விரதம் நடந்திருந்தது அன்று;
பொதுவாகக் கேட்டது கணபதி நாமம்.

"கணபதி! கணபதி! " என்றாள் அவளும்!
கணபதி அருளுக்குப் பாத்திரம் ஆனாள்!"

கணங்கள் உரைத்தன இந்த விவரத்தை;
கணங்களை வேண்டினர் தூதுவர்கள்.

"மண்ணில் இறங்கிய இந்திரன் விமானம்
விண்ணில் எழும்ப உதவிட வேண்டும்!"

"வேலை தருபவர் வேழமுகன் ஒருவரே!
வேலை நடுவில் வேண்டாம் தடங்கல்!"

சென்றனர் விமானம் ஏறிய கணங்கள்,
பெண்ணின் பார்வை விழுந்தது தரையில்.

என்ன விந்தை நடந்தது அங்கே காண்பீர்!
எழும்பியது விமானம் அவள் பார்வையில்!

சண்டாளப் பெண் அல்லவே அவள் இப்போது!
விண்ணுலக வாழ்வை வென்றுவிட்ட பெண்!

#29b. The untouchable woman

Sundari suffered in hell for a long time. Still her sins were not exhausted . She was born on earth again as an untouchable ChandaaLa sthree.

She drank toddy and got intoxicated early in the morning. She felt the pangs of hunger in the afternoon and went out in search of food.

Plantain leaves with the remnants of food were thrown on the street after a feast. Hunger knows no laws! She gathered the leftover food and ate it. That day happened to be the auspicious chathurthi day.

The name of lord Ganapathy was in the air - heard from every house. She too said "Ganapthy! Ganapathy!" just for fun. But Ganapthy rid her of all her sins immediately. She has been given a divya sareeram and a place in the heaven."

The messengers asked for a favour. "Indra's vimanam has been grounded. Please help it to rise again in the sky"

The Deva ganas refused saying, "We obey only the commands of our god Ganapathy. No distractions during our duties"

They got back in their vimaanam and were leaving. The eyes of the ChandaaLa sthree fell on Indra's vimaanam and it started rising in the sky! After all she was not just an untouchable woman anymore. She had won a spot in the heaven.


 
#29c. சூரசேனன்

தூதுவர் கூறிய வினோத விவரங்கள்
ஊதி வளர்த்தன மன்னனின் ஆசையை!

அடைய வேண்டும் விநாயகன் அருளை!
அடைய வேண்டும் விண்ணுலக வாழ்வை!

முனிவர்களின் உதவியுடன் சூரசேனன்
இனிதே தொடங்கினான் விரதத்தை.

அமர பட்சத்தில், மாசி மாதத்தில், பூஜை
அங்காரக சதுர்த்தியில் தொடங்கினான்!

மாதம் தவறாமல் பூஜைகள் நடந்தன;
பாதகம் இன்றிப் பூர்த்தியும் அடைந்தன!

தேவ கணங்கள் வந்தன விமானத்துடன்;
கேவலம் தான் மட்டும் சுவர்க்கம் செல்வதா?

"யாவரும் வர வேண்டும் என்னுடன்!"
தேவ கணங்கள் அளித்தன அனுமதி.

நகர மக்கள் வந்து குவிந்தனர் அங்கு.
அகமகிழ்ந்து அமர்ந்தார் விமானத்தில்.

எழும்பவில்லை விமானம் விண்ணில்!
பழுது என்னவோ தெரியவில்லையே!

"நகர மக்களில் ஒருவன் பாவி வணிகன்;
நகராது விமானம் அவன் ஏறி அமர்ந்தால்!

பார்வை பட்டுத் தரை தட்டினான் இந்திரன்
பாவி இறங்கினால் தான் பறக்கும் விமானம்!"

"எல்லோருக்கும் கிட்டும் நற்பயன்
இல்லாமல் போனது ஏன் அறிவீரா?

பாவம் என்ன செய்துள்ளான் இவன்?
பரிஹாரம் என்று ஒன்றும் இல்லையா?"

வாழ்க வளமுடன் விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
#29c. Soorasenan

The king Soorasenan was bewildered by the information gathered by his messengers. He too wished for a spot in heaven and the travel by the heavenly vimaanam. He called the learned pundits and started chathurti vratham in the prescribed manner.

It was started on an Angaaraka chathurti in the month of Maasi and in amara paksham. The puja went on for one year without any break of hurdles.

Vimaanam came down from heaven. The king did not want to be to be the sole benefactor. He wanted all his citizens to go with him. He argued with the Deva gana and got their permission. The citizens of his country were only too happy on hearing this. They assembled and started boarding the vimaanam.

But the vimaanam would not rise in the air! What had gone wrong? One of the citizens was a sinner merchant. Unless he got down from the vimanam, it would not go up. Indra's vimaanam landed only because the sinner had cast his eyes on it.

The king could nor reconcile to this news. What kind of sin had the merchant committed that he was denied the privilege given to all the others? Was there no parihaaram for his sins?
 
#29d. புதன்

தவசீலர் கௌட தேசத்தில் ஒரு வேதியர்,
தவசீலரின் மனைவி ஜானகி, மகன் புதன்.

மணவயதை அடைந்து விட்டான் புதன்;
மணமுடித்தனர் சாதுப்பெண் சாவித்திரியை.

பச்சைக் கிளி போன்ற மனைவி இருந்தும்,
இச்சை தீர்க்கத் தேவை ஒரு வைப்பாட்டி!

வேசியர் வலையில் விழுந்தான் புதன்;
வேசியர் வீடே அவன் இருப்பிடம் ஆனது.

வேதியர் அறியவில்லை அவன் செய்கை;
வேதியர் அலைந்து தேடினார் புதனை!

நண்பன் கூறினான் அவன் இருப்பிடம்.
நண்பன் உதவியுடன் சென்றார் அங்கே!

'தள்ளாடியபடி வந்துவிட்டது கிழம் - தன்
உல்லாச வாழ்க்கையைக் கெடுப்பதற்கு!'

ஆத்திரம் பீறிட வெளியே வந்தான் புதன்;
"கோத்திரம் என்ன? உன் குலம் என்ன?

பிறப்பால் உயர்ந்திருந்தும் உன்னுடைய
பிழைப்பால் தாழ்ந்து போய்விட்டாயே!

கண்ணும், கண்ணீருமாகக் காத்திருக்கும்
பெண்ணை மோசம் செய்யாதே மகனே!"

செவிடன் காதில் ஊதிய சங்கானது!
குருடனுக்குக் காட்டிய வழி ஆனது!

வேசிகளின் வலையில் சிக்கியவனிடம்,
பேசுவதால் விளையும் பயன் உண்டோ?

"புத்தி கூற வந்தாயா கிழவா?" என்று
சக்தியைத் திரட்டி அறைந்தான் அவரை.

உடல் தளர்ந்தவர் மனம் உடைந்தார்;
உடன் விழுந்து உயிரையும் விட்டார்!

யாரும் அறியாமல் புதைத்தான் உடலை
மேலும் பணம் எடுக்கச் சென்றான் வீடு.

#29d. Budhan

Thavaseelar was a brahmin living in Gowda desam. Janaki was his wife and Budhan his son. When Budhan grew up and became a young man, his parents got him married to a soft and sweet girl named Savithri.

A man may have a wife but he needs a concubine to fulfill his perversions. Budhan fell a prey to a prostitute and started living with her away from his home.

Thavaseelar did not know about this. He got worried and started looking for his son everywhere. Budhan's friend told him about Budhan's behavior and took the old man to the house where Budhan was staying.

Budhan became wild and turned violent when he saw his old father approach the house where he was living in pleasure. His father took him to task,

"Don't you remember your race, your caste and your gothram? You are doing things unfit for a brahmin. Your young wife is waiting for you with eyes filed with tears. Let go back home"

But these words were wasted on Budhan. He became mad with rage and struck the old man with all his might. The old man was already weak. Now he became brokenhearted. He promptly fell down and died.

Budhan buried the dead body secretly and went home to fetch more money and valuables for the fallen woman.
 
#29e. சாவித்திரி

குணம் கெட்ட புதன் வெட்கம் இன்றிப்
பணம் எடுக்கச் சென்றான் தன் இல்லம்.

ஓடிவந்தாள் அவனைக் கண்டதும் அன்னை,
'தேடித் தேடி அலுத்து விட்டோமே உன்னை!

சென்றுவிட்டாய் ஒன்றும் சொல்லாமல் நீ!
எண்ணாதது எண்ணிக் கலங்கி விட்டோம்!

உன்னைத் தேடிச் சென்றார் உன் தந்தை;
என்ன ஆனாரோ தெரியவில்லை!" என

வெறிகொண்ட புதன் அவளையும் ஓங்கி
அறைந்ததில் விழுந்து இறந்தாள் கிழவி!

புதைத்துவிட்டான் பெற்ற தாயையும்
குப்பை மேட்டில் முன்போல் ரகசியமாக.

தாயனைய மாமியைக் கொன்றுவிட்டான்!
பேயனைய புருஷனிடம் ஓடோடி வந்தாள்!

"பரத்தையர் வலையில் வீழ்ந்தவர்கள்
சரித்திரமே இல்லை நன்கு வாழ்ந்ததாக!

பெற்ற தாய் தந்தையரைக் கொன்று
பெறப் போகும் இன்பம் தான் என்ன?

பணத்துக்காக உடலை விற்கும் இந்த
குணம் கெட்ட பெண்களிடம் மோஹம்!

அட்டை போல உறிஞ்சி எடுத்து விட்டு
வெட்டி விடுவார்களே இரக்கம் இன்றி!

என்னிடம் இல்லாத இன்பம் என்று
என்ன இருக்கிறது அப்பெண்களிடம்?

குடும்பத்தைக் குலைக்கும் குடிகேடிகள்!
நடுத் தெருவில் நிறுத்திவிடுவர் உம்மை!"

இரண்டு கொலைகள் செய்தவனுக்கு
எளிதாகி விட்டது மூன்றாவது கொலை.

அடித்துக் கொன்றான் அவளையும் - பிறகு
எடுத்துச் சென்றான் செல்வம் எல்லாம்.

#29e. Savithri

Budhan was both shameless and remorseless. He went home to fetch more wealth for his concubine. His mother came running to him as soon as she saw him.

"Dear son! You went away without uttering a word. We were all getting worried. We were looking for you everywhere. Your father went in search of you. I wonder what is delaying him, now that you are already here!"

Budhan did not speak a word to her but hit her so hard that she too fell down in shock and gave up her ghost. The timid Savithri was bewildered by this and came running to him.

"Never in the history has the man flourished who has become a slave to a prostitute. You killed your parents just to enjoy with those women?

They sell their bodies for money. They will suck your blood dry and cast you on the street - broke and sick. What do you find in them that I do not possess? They ruin families and homes. You are sure to become a pauper soon"

For a man who had killed two people the third one became very easy. He beat his wife to death and took away all his wealth.
 
#29f. பத்தினியின் சாபம்

பொருளுடன் சென்றான் வேசியின் இல்லம்.
அவளுடன் சென்றான் அருகில் ஒரு கானகம்.

தாலவன முனிவர் வசித்தார் அந்தக் காட்டில்;
பாலைவனச் சோலை போன்ற ரிஷிபத்தினி!

காமாந்தகன் புதன் கண்களில் பட்டுவிட்டாள்;
ஏமாந்த நேரம் பார்த்துத் தொட முயன்றான்!

நீராட முனிவர் சென்றிருந்த நேரத்தில்,
தாராளமாக நுழைந்தான் ஆசிரமத்தில்.

கோபம் கொண்டாள் ரிஷியின் பத்தினி;
சாபம் தந்தாள் தாலவனமுனி பத்தினி!

"முனிபத்தினி என்று அறிந்து இருந்தும்
துணிந்து விட்டாய் வந்து தொடுவதற்கு!

எந்த இன்பத்திற்காக அலைகின்றாயோ,
அந்த இன்பம் கிடைக்காது இனி உனக்கு.

குஷ்ட ரோகம் பற்றட்டும் உன்னுடலை
இஷ்டப் படமாட்டார் பெண்கள் உன்னை!"

பத்தினியின் சாபம் பலித்தது உடனே!
ரத்தம் வழியும் ரணங்கள் தோன்றின!

விகாரமானது வேட்கை கொண்ட உடல்;
'ஏகாந்தமே இனி உன் கதி' என்று ஆனது.

வேசி மறைந்து விட்டாள் மாயமாக!
ஆசை வார்த்தைகள் எல்லாமே பொய்.

தன்னந் தனியாக அலைந்தான் காட்டில்;
துன்புற்றுத் துயருற்று உயிர் துறந்தான்.

நரகத்தில் உழன்றும் தீரவில்லை பாவம்;
நரகம் ஆகி விட்டது வாழும் வாழ்க்கை!

குஷ்டத்தோடேயே வந்து பிறந்து மேலும்
கஷ்டப்பட்டான் வணிகன் புன்மகன் புதன்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.


 
#29F. Rushi patni's curse

Budhan went to his concubine's house with all his wealth. He later went to a nearby forest to escape from being arrested for the murders he had committed.

Thaalavana rushi lived there with his patni. She was a beauty nonpareil and chaste to the core. Budhan happened to see her and his desire was kindled for this beautiful rushi patni.

He went into the ashram when the sage had gone to the river and she was alone. He grabbed her hand but she freed herself from his grasp and cast on him a fiery curse,

"You know that I am a rushi patni. Yet you dared to come in when I am alone and tried to seduce me. The pleasure for which you crave will never be yours ever again. May your body be afflicted by leprosy. May all the women hate your very sight"

The chaste woman's words became true immediately. Wounds appeared all over his body and started oozing blood. His figure became unsightly. He was left all alone in the forest. His concubine disappeared without a word or a trace. All her love dissipated as a whiff of smoke.

He roamed in the forest alone - hideous and hated by the onlookers. He suffered a lot and died one day. He went to hell and suffered there more but his account was yet to be settled.

So he was born again on earth afflicted with leprosy to suffer more and more! This is the story of the sinner merchant Budhan"
