1 (# 14 .B) THE GREATNESS OF MURUGAN.

Uma was thrilled to watch the pranks of Murugan. "He is not an ordinary child! Lord! Please tell me about his greatness" she asked Siva.

"Ganga transported the sparks out of which our son is born. He will be known as Gaangeyan. He appeared in the Saravanap poigai. So he will be known as Saravanabavan.

Six babies united to form one baby. So he will be called as Skandan. My six faces have become his six faces. My taaraka mantram has become his shadaakshara.

He is the swaroopam of my own powers. There is no difference between me and him. He may appear to be a small baby but he is really great.

He will imprison Brahma and take charge of the Creation. He will conquer the enemies of the Devas and put an end to their sufferings."

Uma was happy to learn about the greatness of Murugan from his father himself.

1. (# 14 c). அனைவரின் திகைப்பு!

திருவிளையாடல்களைக் காட்டினான் கந்தன்,
திரு உருவத்தைக் காட்டவில்லை ஒருவருக்கும்!
செய்வது யார் என்று திகைப்பில் மூழ்கிவிடச்
செய்யோன் மறைத்துக் கொண்டான் மேனியை.

"மால் அயன் காண இயலாத பிரான் செய்யும்
மாயம் போலும்!" என்று மயங்கினர் அவுணர்.
வேலோன் லீலைகளைக் கண்டவர் விண்டனர்,
"வேரோடு அழிப்பான் அவுணர்களை இவன்!"

ஆறுமுகனைக் காணாமல் ஆட்டத்தைக் கண்டோர்
"வேறு யார் செய்கிறார்கள் இவற்றை?"மயங்கினர்.
தேவர்களும் திகைத்து நின்றனர், பின் விரைந்தனர்;
தேவர்கோனுக்குத் தெரிவித்தனர் பொன் மேருவில்!

"அயோ மயம் இது! அறியமுற்படுவோம்!
அயனிடம் சென்று இதனை ஆராய்வோம்!"
தேவர்கள் நான்முகனிடம் செல்லுகையில்
தோன்றினான் குமரன் அவர்கள் முன்னே !

கொடி, முடிகளைப் பறித்தெறிந்தான் குஹன்.
"கொடியவன் இவன் வேலை தான் எல்லாம்!
வல்லவன்! மாயாவி! அவுணரிலும் கொடியவன்!
வெல்ல வேண்டும் சமரில் இச்சிறுவனை நாம்!"

எண்ணியவுடனே தோன்றியது ஐராவதம்;
எண்ணற்ற படைக் கலங்கள் தோன்றின!
போர்க்கோலம் பூண்ட தேவர்கள் உடன்
போர் தொடங்கினர் சிறுவன் முருகனுடன்.

இந்திரன் வீசிய பாணங்கள் மாறிவிட்டன
சுந்தரச் சிறுவன் மீது மென் மலர்களாக!
சினந்து வீசினான் குலிசத்தை இந்திரன்,
சிறுவன் மீது பட்ட அது துகள்கள் ஆனது!

காழ்ப்புடன் எதிர்த்த வெள்ளை யானை
வீழ்ந்து மடிந்தது ஒரு சிறு கணையால்!
அழிந்தன இந்திரன் கொடியும், முடியும்,
விழுந்தான் மார்பில் ஏழு கணைகளுடன்!

வருணன், யமன், திங்கள், கதிரவன்,
வாயு, வஹ்னி, மாய்ந்தனர் அனைவரும்,
எஞ்சிய தேவர்கள் விரைந்து அங்கிருந்து,
அஞ்சி ஓடினர் சரபம் கண்ட அரிமா என.

1 (# 14 C). THE WAR WITH DEVAS.

Everyone saw Murugan's pranks but he hid his form so that no one knew who was behind all these happenings! The Asuras thought that these acts were performed by Siva Himself.

Those who knew that Murugan was behind all these things were certain that he would get rid of the Asuras.

The Devas were confused too. They rushed to mount Meru to inform these to Indra. Indra told them, "Let us go to Brahma and investigate about this!"

When they were about to leave, Murugan appeared there. He grabbed the crowns and the flags of the Devas and tossed them away.

Devas thought, "This is the boy who is behind all the mischiefs. He is a trickster. He is talented. He is worse than the Asuras. We will have to fight with him to teach him a lesson!"

Indra thought of his Iravata and it appeared there immediately. The Devas got all their asthras and sasthras . They were ready for the battle with the boy.

A fierce battle ensued. All the asthras thrown on Murugan transformed into flowers. The vajraayutham thrown by Indra broke in to thousand pieces. Iravata charged at Murugan in a mad frenzy and dropped dead by his arrows.

With two arrows Murugan cut off the flag and crown of Indra and shot seven more arrows on his chest. Varuna, Yama, the Sun, the moon, Vayu, Agni all lay dead.

The remaining Devas took to their heels very much like the lion cubs running away from the mythological bird sarabam.

1 ( # 14 d). நாரதர் தொண்டு.

விடாமல் சஞ்சரிக்கும் நாரதர் கண்ணுற்றார்;
உடன் சென்று வியாழனிடம் தெரிவித்தார்.

துணுக்குற்ற குலகுருவும் சென்று குஹன்
கணுக்கால்களைப் பற்றி இறைஞ்சினார்.

"அவுணருக்கு அஞ்சிய தேவர்கோன்
தவம் புரிந்தான் மேருமலையின் மேல்.

உம்மை இனம் கண்டு கொள்ளாத தேவர்
தம்மையே அழித்துக் கொண்டனர் சமரில்.

அன்னை தந்தை பிள்ளைக்கு அருளாவிடில்
பின் எவர் அருள் செய்வர் எளியவருக்கு?

அழியுங்கள் அவுணர்களை! உம் ஆற்றலுக்கு
அழகு சேர்க்கும் செயல் அதுவே அறிவீர் !

பிழை பொறுத்து அருள வேண்டும் இவர்
பிழைத்து எழ அருள வேண்டும் குமரா!"

குலகுருவின் சொற்களுக்கு இணங்கினான்
மலர்முக அழகன் சரவணபவன் முருகன்.

யாவரும் உடன் உயிர்த்தெழும் வண்ணம்
தாமதம் இன்றித் தன் திருவருள் செய்தான்.

எழுந்த தேவர்கள் உணர்ந்து கொண்டனர் தம்
பிழைகளையும், மற்றும் அறிவின்மையையும்!

விழுந்து வணங்கினர் தேவர்கள் முருகனை!
குழந்தை வடிவாகி நகைத்தபடி நின்றவனை.

உருவில் சிறியவனாயினும் அழகன் முருகன்
அருளில் பெரியவன் என அவர்கள் அறிந்தனர்.

1. (# 14 D). NARADA'S HELP.

The man on the move Narada saw these unhappy events. He rushed to report them to Bruhaspati. The Deva guru was upset with this piece of news. He rushed to the spot and prayed to Murugan.

"Surapadman and his Asuras had driven out Indra and all his Devas out of Swargam. Indra did penance on mount Meru.

Without recognizing you they have waged a battle against you and got killed foolishly.

Killing the Devas does not befit your valor. You must put an end to the Asuras. Please pardon these Devas and bring them back to life."

Murugan did as was requested by Bruhaspathi. All the Devas woke up as if from deep sleep.

1. (# 14 e). விஸ்வரூப தரிசனம்.

"சிறுவன் இவன் என எண்ணி என்னுடன்
புரிந்தீர் யுத்தம் முன்பின் ஆலோசியாமல்!

பெருமைகளை உணரச் செய்வேன் நான்!"
திருவாய் மலர்ந்து அருளினான் குமரன்.

எட்டு திசைகள், பதினான்கு லோகங்கள்;
எட்டு மலைகள், ஏழு கடல்கள், தீவுகள்;

அனைத்து உலகங்களையும், உயிர்களையும்,
நினைக்க ஒண்ணாத பேருருவில் காட்டினான்.

திருவடிகள் நின்றதோ பாதாள உலகில்!
திருத் தோள்களோ திக்குகளின் முடிவில்!

திருமுடிகள் நிறைத்தன விண்வெளியை!
திருக்கண்களோ ஞாயிறு, திங்கள், அக்னி!

மறைகள் விளங்கின திருவாய்களாக;
அறிவுகள் மிளிர்ந்தன திருக்காதுகளாக.

விண்ணவர் விளங்கினர் உடலின் மீது;
அண்ணலே ஆத்மா, அன்னையே உள்ளம்;

உலகங்களும், உலகின் உயிரினங்களும்,
இலங்கின அப்பேருருவின் திருவடிவில்;

"அவுணர்களைக் கொன்று உம் அடியோம்
தேவர்களைக் காத்திடும்" என இறைஞ்சினர்.

திருவடிகளைத் தொழ விரும்பிய தேவர்கள்
அரியணையில் அவனை அமர்த்த விழைந்தனர்.

கந்த மலை என்னும் அற்புத வெற்பில்
கந்தனுக்கு அமைத்தனர் திருக் கோவில்;

அரிய கோவிலின் உள்ளே அமைத்தனர்
அரியணை ஒன்று கந்தன் அமருவதற்கு.

கயிலை திரும்பிய கந்தன் கண்டான் - நூறு
ஆயிரத்து ஒன்பதின்மரைத் தன் படையில்.

வியர்வையில் தோன்றிய நூறாயிரம் பேர்;
நவ சக்தி குமாரார்கள் ஒன்பது பேர்களுடன்.

வெல்வதற்கு அரிய பெரும் போர் வீரர்கள்,
வெல்வதற்கு அரிய படைக் கலங்களுடன் .

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 ( # 14 E). VISWAROOPA DHARSHAN.

Murugan spoke to them,"You failed to recognize me and thought I was a mere child! I shall reveal my true nature and form now". He assumed his viswaroopam.

The eight directions, the fourteen worlds, the eight mountains, the seven seas, the seven islands and all the living things were seen on his form.

His feet were at Patala. His shoulders extended up to the end of directions. His numerous heads were seen spread over the sky. The Sun, the moon and fire were his three eyes.

The Vedas were his mouths. Intellects were his ears. All the Devas were seen in is body. Siva was his soul and Uma his mind. The entire creation was seen on his form.

The Devas realized the true power of Murugan and prostrated to him begging to be saved.

They wanted to worship him with due respect. They built a temple in one of the mountains. Murugan was made to sit on a throne and they worshiped him well.

Then they all went back and Murugan went to Kailash. He was happy to see his valiant army of a hundred thousand and nine warroiors.

1 (# 15). நாரதரின் வேள்வி.

நிலவுலகில் செய்தார் நாரதர் ஒரு வேள்வி;
நிலவுலவும் வேணியன் மனம் விரும்பும்படி;

வேள்வித் தீயில் தோன்றியது ஓர் ஆட்டுக்கடா;
கேள்வி முறையின்றி துரத்திக் கொன்றது அது.

வேள்வி செய்தவர்களையும் விடவில்லை!
வேல் முருகனிடம் சென்று முறை இட்டனர்.

"அஞ்சற்க!" என அபயம் அளித்தவன்
வெஞ்சின ஆட்டை அடக்க விழைந்தான்.

கோரச் செயல் புரியும் ஆட்டுக்கடாவினை
வீரபாகுத் தேவரிடம் பிடித்துவரச் சொல்ல,

காலால் இட்ட பணியை அன்புடன் தன்
தலையால் செய்தார் வீரபாகுத் தேவர்.

எல்லா உலகங்களுக்கும் சென்று அவர் தேட,
பொல்லாத ஆடு சிக்கியது பிரம்ம லோகத்தில்.

அச்சம் தரும் ஆட்டுக் கடாவைத் தன்னிடம்
அச்சம் கொள்ள வைத்தார் வீரபாகுத் தேவர்.

வயிரம் பாய்ந்த கொம்புகளைப் பற்றி
கயிலை மலைக்கு இழுத்துச் சென்றார்.

அச்சம் இன்றி வேள்வியைத் தொடர
மிச்சம் இன்றி அனைவரும் திரும்பினர்.

"திருந்திய இந்த ஆட்டினையே தாங்கள்
விரும்பிய ஊர்தியாகக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்!"

அன்பர்கள் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு இணங்கி
தன் ஊர்தியாக அதைக் ஆக்கிக் கொண்டான்.

1 (# 15). NARADA'S YAGNA.

Narada performed a yagna on the earth. It was sure to please Siva. From the Yaga kundam a ram appeared. It chased and killed many innocent people.

It chased even Narada and the other rushis who performed the Yagna. They ran to Kailash to report this to Siva.

They met Murugan on the way and told him about the ram. He ordered Veerabaahu to catch the ram and bring it to Kailash.

Veerabaahu searched for the ram in all the worlds and found it in Brahmalokam. He dragged it to Kailash holding on to its horns.

The rushis and Narada went back to earth to continue the yagna. Murugan made the haughty ram as his vahanam a per the request of the rushis.

1 (# 16). நான்முகனின் ஆணவம்.

பிரமன் முதலானோர் பிரானை வணங்கி,
பிரமலோகம் மீண்டு செல்லலாயினர்.

அருகில் வருமாறு முருகன் அழைக்க,
நெருங்கினான் பிரமன் கரங்கள் குவித்து.

நான்முகனை அமரச் செய்த முருகன்,
"யான் அறியவேண்டும் உம் தொழில்?"

"பிரான் ஆணைப்படி படைப்புத் தொழிலை
சிரம் மேற்கொண்டு செய்து வருகிறேன்!"

"குறைவின்றிப் பெற்றுள்ளீரா நீர் நான்கு
மறைகளின் அறிவையும் உண்மை கூறும்!"

"முன்னாளிலே நான்கு அரும் மறைகளை
அண்ணல் எனக்கு போதித்து உள்ளார்!"

"அப்படியானால் இருக்கு வேதம் கூறும்!"
"அப்படியே!" என்று "ஓம்" எனத் தொடங்க,

"நிறுத்தும்! ஓம் என்பதன் பொருள் என்ன?"
மறு மொழி தெரியவில்லை நான்முகனுக்கு.

இறைவனின் பீடமாக என்றும் இலங்குவதும்,
பிறப்பிடமாக தேவர்களுக்குத் துலங்குவதும்,

மறைகள், மந்திரங்களின் மூலமும் ஆகின்ற
பிரணவத்தின் பொருள் புலப்படவில்லை.

அறியாது மயங்கும் நான்முகன் மீது
ஆறுமுகனுக்குப் பொங்கியது கடும் சினம்.

"பிரணவத்தின் பொருளை அறியாத நீர்
பிரான் ஆணைப்படி படைப்பது எங்ஙனம்?"

நான்முகனின் நான்கு தலைகளும் குலுங்குமாறு
நன்றாக அழுத்திக் குட்டினான் முருகன்.

தண்டை அணிந்த கால்களால் உதைத்து,
தண்டித்தார் பிரமனைத் தரையில் தள்ளி!

கந்த வெற்பில் சிறைப்பட்டார் பிரமன்!
கந்தனை எதிர்த்துப் யாரும் பேசமுடியுமா?

உடன் வந்த தேவர்கள் மனம் நடுங்கிடப்
படைப்புத் தொழிலைத் தன் வசமாக்கினான்.

1(#16). BRAHMA'S ARROGANCE.

Brahma and the other Devas visited Siva at Kailash. After paying their obeisance, they were returning to Brahmalokam.

Murugan called Brahma to come near him. Brahma went near with anjali hastham but did not prostrate to Murugan.

Murugan made Brahma sit near him and asked him,
" What is your business?"

Brahma replied, "I am in charge of the creation as ordained by Siva".

Murugan asked,"Do you have the knowledge of the Vedas?"

Brahma replied, "Lord had taught me those long ago!"

Murugan said, "Then recite Rig Veda".

Brahma started reciting with the Pranava "Om".

Murugan asked Brahma to explain the meaning of "Om".

Brahma could not explain the meaning of the Pranava - which was the seat of the lord; the birthplace of the Devas; and the root of all Mantras and Vedas. He stood with his head hung down.

Murugan became very angry! "If you do not know the meaning of the Pranava, how can you be in charge of the creation?"

He rapped on Brahma's head with a great force so that all the four heads wobbled. He kicked Brahma and pushed him on the floor.

Brahma was imprisoned on Kanda Verpu by Murugan. The Devas who accompanied Brahma were shocked by these events. Murugan took charge of the Creation himself.

1 (# 17 a). பெருமானும், முருகனும்.

முருகன் படைத்தலைச் செய்தான் பலகாலம்;
திருமால் விரும்பினார் பிரமனைச் சிறைமீட்க.

தேவர் குழாம் திரண்டு சென்றது கயிலை;
வேத நாயகனைப் பணிந்து விண்ணப்பித்தது.

நந்தியைப் பணித்தார் நம் சிவபெருமான்,
"நம்பியிடம் சொல்லி நான்முகனை மீட்பாய்!"

கந்தவெற்பை நோக்கிச் சென்றார் நந்திதேவன்,
கந்தனைக் காண எண்ணற்ற கணங்களுடன்;

"பிரமனைச் சிறை நீக்க வேண்டும் முருகா!
பிரணவத்தின் பொருள் உரைப்பது எளிதா?"

"நான்முகனைச் சிறை விடேன் நான்!
உன்னையும் சிறை இடுவேன் ஓடிவிடு!"

முருகனின் சீற்றத்தைக் கண்டு அஞ்சி
திருக்கயிலை திரும்பினார் நந்தி தேவன்.

விவரம் அறிந்த பெருமான் - பிரமனை
விடுவிக்கத் தாமே செல்ல விழைந்தார்.

அரியணையில் இருந்து இறங்கிப் பின்னர்
எருது ஊர்தியில் ஏறி அமர்ந்தார் பிரான்;

பிற தேர்களும் தத்தம் ஊர்திகளில் ஏறி
பிரானுடன் சென்றனர் அந்தக் கந்தவெற்பு.

தந்தையைக் கண்டதும் வந்து வணங்கிய
கந்தன் அரியணையில் அமர்த்தினான் அவரை.

"எம்பெருமான் எழுந்தருள என்ன காரணம்?"
"எம் திருவுளம் பிரமனைச் சிறை மீட்பதே!" ..

"பிரணவத்தின் பொருள் அறியாதவன் அவன்!
பிரானைத் தொழுதும் ஆணவம் நீங்காதவன்!

அவனைச் சிறைவிட முடியாது!" என்றான்.
அவனிடம் சிவன் சினந்தது போலப் பேசினார்!

"நந்தி கூறிய போதும் கேட்கவில்லை நீ!
நான் கூறும் போதும் கேட்கப் போவதில்லை"

"தங்கள் திருவுள்ளம் அதுவானால் நான்
உங்கள் விருப்பம் போலச் செய்கின்றேன்!"

1 (# 17 A) SIVA AND SKANDA.

Brahma was imprisoned and Murugan took care of the creation. Days rolled by.

Vishnu took pity on Brahma's plight and wanted to get him released from the prison. He went to meet Siva with all the other Devas.

Siva took pity of Brahma and told Nandhi to meet Murugan and get Brahma released from the prison.

Nandi went to meet Murugan with all the Sivaganaas. He requested Murugan thus,

"You must release Brahma from your prison. Explaining the meaning of Pranava is not an easy task after all".

Skanda was stubborn."I will not release Brahma. If you continue to pester me I will imprison you along with him. Now run along!"

Nandi returned to Kailash hastily and told Siva of Skanda's threat. Siva decided to go in person and get Brahma released. He got down from his throne an sat on his bull Nandhi.

All the other Devas accompanied him to meet Skandan. Skandan paid obeisance to Siva, made him sit on a throne and wanted to know the purpose of his visit.

Siva told him, "My aim is to get Brahma released from your prison"

"He does not know the meaning of pranava. He is unfit to be in charge of the creation. He worships you but he has not got rid of his ego."

Siva appeared to be irritated with Murugan and said,"You did not listen to Nandhi. You are not listening to me either."

Murugan said, "If that is your wish, I will release Brahma from my prison immediately."

உள்ளது என்னிடம் இளமையும், செல்வமும்,
அழகும் என்று அலட்டிக்கொள்ள வேண்டாம்!
உள்ளார் உலகில் பலர், உன்னைவிடவும்
அழகு, இளமை, செல்வம் அதிகம் உள்ளவர்!

I have given my view for the above stanza.

உள்ளது நம்மிடம் இருப்பது ஒன்றே
அதுவே உண்மைப் பரம்பொருள்.
உணர்ந்தால் என்றும் நம்மிடம்
உயர்ந்தார் தாழ்ந்தவர் ஏது?

1 (# 17b). பிரானும், பிரணவமும்.

பூதங்கள் சென்று விடுவித்தன பிரமனை;
பூதங்கள் கொணர்ந்து நிறுத்தின பிரமனை;

"நான் முகனே! மிகவும் வருந்தினீரா நீர்
என் மகன் சிறையில் இட்டதால் வாடி?"

"ஆணவம் ஒழிந்தேன் சிறைப்பட்டதால்.
தீவினை தொலைந்து தூயவன் ஆனேன்."

"வழக்கம் போல் படைத்தல் செய்வாய்!"

மகனை வாரி மடியில் அமர்த்திக்கொண்டு,
"மகனே! நீ அறிவாயா பிரணவத்தை?

நான்முகன் அறியாத அம்மறை பொருளை
நான் அறியும் வண்ணம் எடுத்துக் கூறு!"

"மறைபொருளை மறைவாகக் கூற வேண்டும்.
பிறர் அறியும் வண்ணம் பகரலாகுமா?

குருவாக என்னை அமர்த்திச் சீடனானால்
உரைப்பேன் நான் பிரணவத்தின் பொருளை"

முருகன் குருவானான்! பிரான் சீடனானான்!
பொருளை உரைத்தான் பிரான் செவியில்.

கயிலை திரும்பினார் கண்ணுதற் பெருமான்.
கந்த வெற்பில் கந்தனும் அவன் படையும்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 (# 17 B) SIVA AND PRANAVA.

Some of the ganas released Brahma and brought him to Siva.
"Did you suffer much in my son's prison Oh Brahma?" Siva asked the Brahma.

"No sire! The imprisonment helped me to overcome my pride and ego. I have become a purer person now"

Siva blessed Brahma,"You may now resume your duty as the creator"

He then placed Murugan on his lap and asked him, "you imprisoned Brahma since he did not know the meaning of Pranava. Do you know the meaning son?"

"Sire! Surely I know the meaning of Pranava. But it should not be revealed in public. If you will make me your guru and you become my disciple, I will reveal its scared meaning"

Siva assumed the posture of a humble disciple and Murugan sat as the guru. He explained Pranava to Siva's delight.

Siva was pleased and went back to Kailash. Murugan and his army stayed back in Kanda Verpu.

1 (#18 a). இரு சகோதரிகள்.

கந்த வெற்பில் இருந்தான் கந்தன் படையுடன்;
சுந்தர புருஷனை மணக்க விரும்பினர் இருவர்.

அமிர்தவல்லி சுந்தரவல்லி என்னும் அழகியர்,
அறி துயில் மாலின் அருமைப் புதல்விகள்;

"சரவணபவனே எங்கள் கணவனாக வேண்டும்!"
சரவணப் பொய்கையில் செய்தனர் தவம்;

மங்கையர் செய்த அத்தவத்தை மெச்சி
கங்கையின் மைந்தன் கண் முன் தோன்ற;

"அடியோங்கள் வரித்தோம் தங்களையே!
கடிமணம் புரிந்து எமக்கு வாழ்வளிப்பீர்!"

அமிர்தவல்லியிடம் கூறினான் கந்தன்,
"அமிர்தம் அருந்தும் இந்திரன் மகளாவாய்!

காலம் கனிந்ததும் நாடி வந்து உன்னையே
ஞாலம் போற்றக் கடிமணம் புரிவேன்!"

கந்தன் கூறினான் சுந்தரவல்லியிடம்,
மாந்தருள் மாணிக்கம் சிவமுனி மகளாகி,

வேடர்குல மன்னனிடம் வளர்வாய் நீ!
வேண்டியபடி வந்து வதுவை புரிவேன்"

அமிர்தவல்லி அழகியதொரு சிறுமியாகி
அமரர் கோனிடம் சென்றாள் மேருவுக்கு.

"உன்னுடன் தோன்றிய உபேந்திரன் மகள்
என்னை நீ வளர்த்து வரவேண்டும்!

அன்புடன் ஏற்றான் இந்திரன் சிறுமியை,
ஐராவதத்திடம் வளர்க்கச் சொன்னன்.

தெய்வங்களின் யானை வளர்த்ததால்
தெய்வயானை என்னும் பெயர் பெற்றாள்.

சுந்தரவல்லியும் கந்தன் ஆணைப்படியே
அந்தக் கணம் சென்றாள் தொண்டை நாடு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 (# 18 A). THE TWO SISTERS.

Skandan was living on the kanda verpu with his army. Two sisters wished to marry him. They were Amirthavalli and Sundaravalli - the daughters of Vishnu.

They did severe penance in Saravanap poigai. Skanda was pleased with their penance and appeared in front of them.
The two sisters expressed the purpose of their penance.

"Sire! We wish you marry you. Please grant us our wish!"
Skanda told Amirthavalli,"Go to Indra and grow up as his daughter. I will marry you when the time is right."

He told Sundaravalli," You become the daughter of Sivamuni and grow up among the hunters. I will marry you when the right time approaches."

Amirthavallli became a beautiful young girl and went to Indra. She told him, " I am the daughter of your brother Upendran. You must take care of me."

Indra accepted the girl and appointed airavatm to take care of her. She grew up with the name Deivayaanai. Sundaravalli went to Thondai Naadu.

1 (# 18 b). முறையீடும், புறப்பாடும்.

கந்தன் மீண்டான் கயிலையங்கிரி
தந்தை, தாயுடன் அரியணை அமர.

இந்திரன், நான்முகன், திருமாலுடன்
சென்றனர் கயிலை எஞ்சிய தேவர்கள்;

நந்தி பெற்றான் அண்ணலின் அனுமதி,
இந்திரன் முதலோர் அண்ணலைக் காண.

"அவுணர்களால் துன்புறுகிறோம் யாம்,
சிவனார் அறியாததல்ல இவ்வுண்மை;

ஜயந்தனும், தேவரும், அரம்பையரும்,
கயவன் சூரபத்மன் சிறையினுள்ளே.

எப்போது தீரும் எங்கள் துயரம்?
எப்போது இரங்கும் தங்கள் இதயம்?"

பெருமான் கூறினான் மகன் முருகனிடம்,
"பெருவலிவுடன் உலகை வாட்டிடும்

சூரபத்மனை நீ அழித்திட வேண்டும்.
வீரர்கள் படையினை நடத்திட வேண்டும்."

பதினொரு ருத்திரர்களையும் வரவழைத்து
படைக்கலங்கலாக மாற்றினார் அவர்களை!

தோமரம், கொடி, வாள், குலிசம், கணை,
தாமரை, தடி, வில், மழு, அங்குசம், மணி!

வேற்படை ஒன்றை உருவாக்கினார் பிரான்,
வேலவன் என்னும்படி கந்தனுக்குத் தந்தார்.

ஐம்பெரும் பூதங்களையும் அழிக்க வல்லது.
ஐயமின்றி படைக்கலங்களுள் மிக வலியது.

நூறாயிரம் வீரர்களுக்கும் படைக்கலங்கள்,
ஈராயிரம் வெள்ளம் பூதங்களும் தந்தார்.

ஆறுமுகன் செல்வதற்கு அற்புதத் தேர் ஒன்று
நூறாயிரம் குதிரைகள் பூட்டி மனோவேகத்தில்.

போருக்குப் புறப்பட்டார் குமரக் கடவுள்,
போரில் வெல்ல வாழ்த்தினர் பெற்றோர்;

பெருவீரர்கள் அனைவரும் பெற்றனர் ஆசிகள்,
திருமுருகனுடன் சென்றனர் அமர்க்களம்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 ( # 18 B). THE PLEA AND THE PREPARATION.

Skanda went to Kailash and was sitting with Uma and Siva. All the Devas gathered under the leadership of Brahma and Vishnu. They went to Kailash. Nandi Got Siva's permission and took them in.

Indra begged for mercy,"My son Jayanthan, Devas and apsaras are all imprisoned by Soorapadman. You promised to rid us of these problems. When will happen? How long should we continue to suffer?"

Siva told Skandan, "Soorapadman has become invincible. You must put an end to him soon with the help of your army"

Siva made the eleven Rudraas appear in front of him and converted them to eleven aayudhams for Skanda.

Siva created a spear. It was superior to every other weapon. It could destroy even the pancha boothas.

He gave aayudhams to all the warriors of the army. He gave 2000 units of his ganas.

Siva created a wonderful chariot for Murugan. It was drawn by a hundred thousand horses and could travel faster than thoughts.

Murugan took the blessings of Siva and Uma. Every warrior did likewise. They were all set to go to earth for the war.
