1 (# 9). தேவர்களை அழைத்தல்.

"ருத்திரர்களையும், மற்ற தேவர்களையும் இங்கு
மொத்தமாகக் குழுமச் செய்வாய் நந்தி தேவா!"

சிந்தையில் அவர்களை நினைவு கூர்ந்ததும்,
வந்து குழுமினர் நந்தியின் முன் அனைவரும்.

காலாக்னி ருத்திரருடன் நூறுகோடி கணங்கள்;
கூர்மாண்டேசருடன் பல கோடி பூதங்கள்;

ஆடகேசுரருடன் கோடி கோடி ருத்திரர்கள்;
வீரபத்திரருடன் நூறாயிரம் கோடி பூதங்கள்;

அய்யனாருடன் நூறு கோடி பூதங்கள் வந்தன;
அய்யன் கட்டளைப்படி அனைவரும் வந்து,

ஈசனைக் கண்டு போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர்.
மணக்கோலம் காண மிக விழைந்தனர்.

நான்முகன் தந்த பொன் ஆபரணங்களைத்
தான் அணியவில்லை; தொட்டு அருளினார்.

தன் பாம்புகளையும், பிறவற்றையும், மின்னும்
இரத்தின ஆபரணங்களாக மாற்றிக்கொண்டார்.

1 (#9). GATHERING ALL THE DEVAS.

Siva told Nandhi, "Please gather all the Devas here on mount kailash!" As Nandhi thought about them, each of them appeared on Kailash.

Kaalaagni Rudran came with a hundred crore ganas.

Koormaandesar turned up with seventy two crore boothaas.

Aadakesuran came with one crore crores Rudraas.

Veerabadran came with 110,000 crores of ganas.

Ayyanaar came with hundred crores boothams.

They all sang the praise of the lord and were eager to see His wedding with Uma.

Brahma presented Siva with precious ornaments worthy of a groom. Siva merely touched them.

He transformed his own bone and snake ornaments into gold jewels studded with precious gems.

1 (# 10 a). திருமணம்.

உமையை மணந்திட உள்ளம் கனிந்தார்.
இமயத்தில் எழுந்தருளத் தருணம் இது.

முன்னே நந்திதேவன் புகழ்ந்தபடிச் செல்ல,
பின்னே முனிவர்கள் வாழ்த்தியபடி வர,

தும்புரு, நாரதர் இன்னிசை பாடிவர,
தம் விடை மீது ஆரோஹணித்தார் ஈசன்.

ஆனைமுகன் கணங்களோடு முன்னே செல்ல,
அன்புடன் சூரிய, சந்திரர்கள் குடைகள் பிடிக்க,

காற்றுக்கு இறைவன் வெண் சாமரம் வீசிட,
சுற்றினான் இந்திரன் அன்புடன் ஆலவட்டம்!

இமயத்தை அடைந்துவிட்டது மணமகன் குழு,
உமையின் மணவேளை நெருங்கியே விட்டது!

மலையரசன் நின்றான் சுற்றம் புடை சூழ.
மலர்ந்த முகத்துடன் அழைத்துச் சென்றான்.

மறை முனிவர்கள் பூர்ணகும்பங்களுடன் வர,
மங்கலப் பெண்டிர் அஷ்ட மங்களங்களுடன்;

ஊர்வலம் அடைந்தது மண மண்டபத்தை;
ஊர்திகளிலிருந்து இறங்கினர் அனைவரும்.

பாலாலே கால் அலம்பினாள் மோனாதேவி.
பட்டாலே துடைத்துப் பாதுகை அளித்தனர்.

திருமாலும், நான்முகனும் கை கொடுக்க,
திருமண மண்டபத்தை அடைந்தான் ஈசன்.

இந்திர நீலமணி இழைத்த அரியணையில்
இந்துவை அணிந்த நாதன் எழுந்தருள,

தத்தம் இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்தனர் அவனை
நித்தம் துதிக்கும் தேவர்களின் குழாம்.

எல்லோரும் ஓரிடத்தில் வந்து குழுமவே,
கல்மலையும் நடுங்கி நிலை குலைந்தது.

வடபுலம் தாழ்ந்து, தென்புலம் உயர்ந்தது.
வருந்தி ஓலமிட்டனர் தேவரும், மனிதரும்.

விரைந்து நிலவுலகைச் சமன் செய்யவேண்டி
குறுமுனியைத் தம்பால் வரவழைத்தான் ஈசன்.

1. (#10 a) THE WEDDING.

Siva thought it was time to go to Himalayas to wed Uma. Nandi led the group singing the praise of lord. Rushis spoke auspicious words and followed him. Thumburu and Narada sang sweet songs. Siva sat on Nandhi.

Vinayaka led the procession with his ganas. The Sun and the Moon held the umbrellas for the lord. Vayu set fresh air in motion with his chaamaram. Indra did the aalavattam. The whole group reached Himalayas.

Himavaan was waiting to welcome the group with his kin and kith. Rushis welcomed the group with poorna kumbam. Sumangalis came carrying the ashta mangalam. The procession reached the wedding mandapam. Every one got down from their vahanas.

Mona Devi washed Siva's feet with milk and dried them with silk. Siva got new paada rakshai. He reached the mandapam in the company of Brahma and Vishnu. Siva sat on the throne studded with blue sapphires and all the others took their seats.

Since everybody assembled in one spot the equilibrium of the earth was upset. The north dipped and the South rose up. Everyone got frightened and it was now left to Siva to restore the balance of the earth. He called sage Agasthya and spoke to him thus.

1 (# 10 b). அகத்தியரை அனுப்புதல்.

"குறுமுனிவரே! ஓருதவி செய்வீரா?
மறுமொழி கூறி இதை மறுத்திடாமல்?

வடதிசை தாழ்ந்து தென்திசை உயர்ந்து,
நடுங்குகின்றது நிலைதடுமாறி நிலவுலகு!

பொதியமலை மீது சென்று இருப்பீர் நீர்,
கதிகலங்கிய நிலத்தைச் சமன் செய்திட."

"அன்னையின் திருமணத்தை காணவிடாது
என்னைப் போகச் சொல்கின்றீர்களா?

நான் செய்த பாதகம் தான் என்ன கூறும்!
என் கண் பெற்ற பயனை அடைவேனோ?"

"எதை எதை யாரால் செய்ய முடியுமோ
அதை அதை அவரே செய்யவேண்டும்.

மூர்த்தி சிறிதெனினும் கீர்த்தி பெரியது!
பார்த்துவிட்டு நான் உம்மை அணுகினேன்."

"தேவர்களையும் விட்டு என்னைப் பணித்தீர்.
தேவாதிதேவன் உம் மணத்தைக் கண்களால்

காணாமல் இருக்க மனம் ஒப்பவில்லை!
வாணாளை வீணாள் ஆக்குவது எங்ஙனம்?"

"பொதிய மலைக்குச் செல்வீர் நீவீர்!
அதிசயத் திருமணக் கோலத்தை அங்கேயே

தரிசிக்கச் செய்வேன் கவலை வேண்டாம்.
அரியவரே! சமன் செய்வீர் நிலவுலகை!"

தேவதேவனை வணங்கிய அகத்தியர்
வேகமாக அடைந்தார் பொதிகையை.

முன்போலவே உலகு சமநிலை அடைய,
மன்னுயிர்கள் எல்லாம் நிம்மதி அடைந்தன.

1 (# 10.b). RESTORING THE EARTH'S BALANCE.

"Agasthya! I seek a help from you! Please do not refuse to do it. The north has dipped and the south has risen.

The earth has lost her balance.The entire creation is frightened. You must go to Podigai in the south and restore the balance of the earth".

"Lord every one has gathered here to witness the divine wedding. You want to send me away! What is the crime I have committed. Why am I denied the very purpose of possessing my eyesight?"

"We must get the things done by the persons capable of doing them. You are small in stature but big in powers. Only you can restore the balance of the earth"

"Lord, you have asked me to help you -brushing away even the Devas. But the thought that I will miss your wedding makes me feel very sad.

"Do not worry. I will give you a dharshan of my wedding with Uma on Podhigai itself. Do not worry but please do hurry?"

Agasthya left for Pothigai. The balance of the earth was restored. The Devas and manushyas heaved a sigh or relief.

1 (#10 c). திருமணம்.

தேவமாதர்கள் அழைத்து வந்தனர் உமையை,
ஏவல் செய்த இமவான் கட்டளைக்கிணங்கி.

காவலுக்குக் காளி; அடைப்பை ஏந்த இந்திராணி;
சாமரம் வீச கங்கை; கைலாகு கொடுக்க இலக்குமி;

அடைந்தாள் அழகிய பொன் மணமேடையை.
புகழ்ந்தாள் வீணை மீட்டிப் பாடிய கலைவாணி.

பணிந்து எழுந்த உமையை பரிவுடன்
பணித்தார் ஈசன் அருகில் அமரும்படி;

மோனை நீர் ஊற்ற, மலைஅரசன் பாதபூஜை
மணக்கும் மலர்கள், சந்தனத்தால் செய்தான்.

உமையின் தளிர்க்கரங்களை வைத்தான்
இமவான் சிவபெருமான் திருக்கரங்களில்!

தாரை வார்த்துச் செய்தான் கன்னியை தானம்;
அரம்பையர் ஆடினார், கந்தருவர் பாடினர்;

மறை மொழிகள் பயின்றனர் முனிவர்கள்.
மங்கலம் பாடினர் அலைமகள், கலைமகள்,

பல இசைக் கருவிகளை ஒலித்தன பூதங்கள்.
அலைகடல் ஓசையை வென்றது இன்னிசை.

முக்கனிகள், பால், நெய், தேன் இவற்றை
முக்கண்ணனுக்கு அளித்தார் இமவான்.

1 (# 10 c). THE WEDDING.

The wifes of the Devas led Uma to the wedding mandapam, as ordered by Himavaan. Kali was guarding the bride. Indrani carried the betel bag, Ganga fanned with chaamaram, Lakshmi Devi accompanied Uma. Saraswathi Devi sang songs of praise.

Uma touched Siva's feet with reverence. Siva told her to sit beside Him on the throne.

Mona Devi brought the things needed for Siva's paada poojai. Himavaan washed the groom's feet, applied sandal paste on it and and placed flowers.

Himavaan placed Uma's lotus-soft hands in Siva's hands and offered her in kanyaa daan.

The Apsaraas danced , gandharvaas sang, Rushis chanted vedas, Lakshmi and Saraswathi sang auspicious songs. Bootha ganas played on several musical instruments in unison.

Himavaan offered mango, banana, jack fruit along with milk, honey and ghee to the Lord.

1 ( # 10 d ). திருமண வேள்வி.

"எல்லோரும் செய்யும் திருமண வேள்வியை
எல்லா உலகின் தலைவரும் செய்ய வேண்டும்.

திருமண வேள்வி செய்திட அனுமதி தாரும்!"
பெருமானிடம் வேண்டினான் பிரமதேவன்.

வேள்விப் பொருட்கள் வந்து சேர்ந்தன.
வேள்விச் சடங்குகள் செய்தான் பிரமன்,

வியாழன், சுக்கிரன், பிற முனிவர்களுடன்.
வீழ்ந்து வணங்கினர் மணமக்களை அனைவரும்.

வந்து வணங்கினாள் ரதி தேவி - ஈசன்
தந்த வாக்குறுதியை நினைவூட்டினாள்.

காமன் வந்து தோன்ற அருளினான் ஈசன்;
காமனோ தன்பிழை பொறுக்கவேண்டினான்.

"உருவுடன் இருந்து ரதியை மகிழ்விப்பாய்!
அருவமாக இருந்து உலகை ஆட்டிவைப்பாய்!"

வரம் தந்தார் மதனுக்கு, வாக்கு மாறாத ஈசன்,
வரத்தால் அகமுகம் மகிழ்ந்தனர் ரதி மன்மதர்.

1 (#10 d) THE WEDDING HOMAM.

Brahma told Siva,"Sire! you must perform all the wedding rituals like every one else. Please give me permission for performing the wedding homam!" Siva agreed.

Brahma got all the things required fr the homam. He performed the homam attended by the gurus Bruhaspathi, Sukran and other rushis.

Everyone fell at the feet of the bride and groom.
Rathi who was waiting for the appropriate moment entered and fell at Siva's feet. She reminded Him of His promise to bring back to life Manmathan.

Siva wished that Manmathan should appear before Him. Manmathan begged for forgiveness. Siva blessed him such that Manmathan will be visible only to Rathi Devi. To the rest of the world, he will be invisible but will have power on all living things.

Siva and Uma returned to Kailash. All the rushis, Devas and ganas went back to their places.

Siva and Uma sat on their throne. All the living creatures got back their interest in life and love.

Creation was restored and resumed.

1 (# 11 a). திருமுருகன் தோற்றம்.

நாட்கள் பல கடந்தும் நம்பி அவதரிக்கவில்லை.
நான்முகன், இந்திரன், திருமால், தேவர் குழுமினர்.

"பிறையணி நாதனிடமும், பார்வதிதேவியிடமும்,
முறை இட்டு வேண்டிக்கொள்வதே ஒரே வழி!

நல்ல சகுனம் நோக்கி நாம் சென்றால் ஒழிய
செல்லும் காரியங்கள் வெல்ல வாய்ப்பு இல்லை."

வாயு தேவனைப் பணித்தார்கள் அவர்கள்,
யாது செய்கின்றான் பிரான் என்று கண்டு வர.

"காமனையே எரித்த கண்கள் உருவமற்றதான
காற்றை என் செய்யுமோ?" என அஞ்சினான்.

கயிலையை அடைந்து நீராடி, தென்றலாகிப்
பயின்றான் நடை, மலர் மணத்தைச் சுமந்தபடி.

நந்தியின் அனுமதியின்றி கயிலைமலையில்
மந்த மாருதமும் நுழைய முடியாது அன்றோ!

வாயுவைத் தடுத்து, அதட்டி நந்தி விரட்டக்
காயும் சூரியன் முன் பனியாகிவிட்டான் வாயு.

"தேவர்கள் பிரானை தரிசிக்க விரும்பி என்னை
ஏவினர் வேத முதல்வனைக் கண்டு வரும்படி.

சூரபத்மனின் அடிமையான நாள் முதல் - என்
வீரமும், விவேகமும் அழிந்து விட்டன போலும்!"

"உன்னைப் பிழைக்கவிட்டேன், நீ ஓடிப்போ!"
இன்னுயிர் பிழைத்த காற்று கடுகி மறைந்தான்.

மேரு மலையில் இருந்த தேவர்களிடம் சென்று
கூறினான் கயிலையில் நிகழ்ந்தவற்றை எல்லாம்.

1 (# 11 A). THE BIRTH OF MURUGAN.

Many days rolled away but Siva's son was yet to be born! All the Devas including Brahma, Vishnu and Indra met on Mount Meru.

"We can't wait any longer. We have to meet Siva and Uma in person and tell them our grievances. Only if we approach them at an appropriate time, our task will become easy."

They ordered Vayu to go to Kailash and find out whether the time was ripe for their visit.

"Siva had burned Manmathan who had the most lovely body. I am already formless and invisible! What will become of me?"Vayu worried. But he had no choice but to give in.

He reached Kailash, took a bath, loaded himself with the fragrance of the flowers and tried to enter Kailash as Manda Maarutham.

But the ever vigilant Nandi stopped him, scolded him and ordered him to run off as fast as he could-if he wanted to remain alive.

Vayu told him the purpose of his visit but in vain. Vayu was forced to return to mount Meru and relate the failure of his mission to the Devas there.

1 (# 11 b). தேவர்கள் விண்ணப்பம்.

தேவர்கள் வருந்தினர் வாயுவின் மொழி கேட்டு;
"யாவரும் ஒரு விண்ணப்பம் செய்வோம் வாரீர்!"

மேருவை நீங்கி கயிலைமலையை அடைந்தனர்- "எம்
வருகையைப் பெருமானுக்கு அறிவிக்க வேண்டும்!"

வரச் சொன்ன பெருமானிடம் முறையிட்டனர்.
"தர வேண்டும் வீரத் திருமகன் குறை தீர்க்க!"

"வருந்த வேண்டாம் தேவர்களே வறிதே நீங்கள்!
திருமகன் தோன்றும் நேரம் கனிந்து விட்டது!"

ஐந்து புதிய திருமுகங்கள் தோன்றச் செய்தார்;
ஆறு முகங்களில் ஆறு அழகிய நுதற்கண்கள்!

அவற்றில் தோன்றின ஆறு தீப் பொறிகள்!
அவை விரிந்து, பரந்து வெப்பத்தை உமிழ்ந்தன!

ஓய்ந்துவிட்டது காற்று! வற்றிவிட்டன கடல்கள்!
ஒடுங்கியது நாணிய ஊழித்தீயும்! பிளந்தது நிலம்;

நெகிழ்ந்தன கல்மலைகள்; அஞ்சின உயிரினங்கள்;
உமிழ்ந்த வெப்பத்தால் அஞ்சினாள் உமையும்! ;;

படர்ந்த பொறிகள் தீங்கு விளைவிக்கவில்லை.
உடனே தணிக்க வேண்டினர் கடும் வெப்பத்தை;

ஐந்து முகங்களையும் மறைத்த ஈசன் முன்போல்
இந்து அணிந்த ஒரு முகத்தினான் ஆனான்.

தீப்பொறிகளைத் தன்னிடம் திரும்ப அழைத்தான்.
தீக் கடவுளிடமும் காற்றிடமும் சொன்னான்,

"இருவரும் இப்பொறிகளைத் தாங்கிச்சென்று
பெருகும் கங்கை நதியில் சேர்க்க வேண்டும்!"

"நுதற் கண்ணில் தோன்றிய தீப்பொறிகளை
முதலில் தாங்கும் ஆற்றல் வேண்டுமே!"

தீங்கு நேராமல் தீப்பொறிகளைத் தாங்கத்
திருவருள் புரிந்தான் கருணைக் கடல் ஈசன்.

1 (# 11B) THE REQUEST OF DEVAS.

Devas worried about the failure of Vayu's mission. They decided to take a chance and go to Kailash in person to meet Siva and Uma.

They left Mount Meru and reached mount Kailash. They requested Nandi to inform Siva of their visit.

Siva called them in and they spoke in unison,
"Sire! Where is the valorous son who will rid us of all our troubles?"

Siva replied to them.,"Now is the right time for the son to be born. Do not worry any more!"

He assumed five new faces. Along with His face, He now had six faces. There was a third eye in each of those six faces. A spark appeared from each of them.

These six sparks were so hot that everybody started running aimlessly. The air stopped moving. The oceans dried up.

Agni Devan go frightened by these sparks. Mountains softened. All the living things were scared. Uma also go frightened and ran away in a hurry.

Since the sparks were benign they did not harm anyone. Siva decided to reduce the intensity of the sparks and called them back to him.

He made his extra five faces disappear and was seen with one face adorned by the crescent moon.
He ordered Agni and Vayu to carry the sparks and deposit them in the river Ganges. She will transport them to Saravanap Poigai .

Agni and Vayu wondered how anyone could even touch those sparks. Siva blessed them with the power to bear the heat of the sparks and sent them on their mission.

1 ( # 11 c) சரவணப் பொய்கை.

அக்னியும், வாயுவும் வணங்கினர் பிரானை.
அக்னிப் பொறிகளைச் சுமந்தான் வாயு.

திருமால் முதலானோர் பின் தொடர்ந்தனர்.
ஒரு நாழிகைப்பொழுதில் களைத்துவிட்டான்!

அக்னிப் பொறிகளைச் சுமந்தான் அக்னிதேவன்!
அக்னியே அக்னியைச் சுடுமா? சுட்டது அங்கே.

வருத்தத்தைப் பொறுத்துக் கொண்டு அவன்
திருத்தமாகப் பொறிகளை கங்கையில் சேர்த்தான்.

வற்றாத கங்கையும் வற்றி விடுமோ வெப்பத்தில்?
சிற்றாறு போல் ஓடிச் சேர்த்து விட்டது கங்கை,

ஆறு தீப் பொறிகளையும் ஒரு பழுதும் இன்றி
சரவணப் பொய்கையில், இமயமலைச் சாரலில்.

காவல் நின்றனர் தேவர்கள்அப்பொய்கைக்கு.
ஆவல் மீறியது வீர சிவகுமாரனைக் கண்டிட.

உருவமும் அருவமும் ஆகி, ஆதி அந்தமில்லாத
திருவுடலே ஒளிப்பிழம்பாக அவன் தோன்றினான்.

ஓராறு திரு முகங்கள்; பன்னிரு திருக் கரங்கள்;
ஈராறு விழிகள்; இவ் உலகை உய்விக்க வந்தான்.

அரவணைத்து அனைதுலகையும் ஆளப்பிறந்தான்.
சரவணப் பொய்கையில் அவதரித்தான் அவன் .

விண்ணில் ஒலித்தன தேவ துந்துபிகள்,
மண்ணில் மகிழ்ந்தன உயிரினங்கள்;

மலர்கள் சொரிந்தன; மறைகள் முழங்கின;
குலவும் குமரன் இருந்ததோ தாமரையின் மீது!

1 ( # 11 C ) SARAVANAP POIGAI.

Agni and Vayu took leave of Siva. Vishnu and other Devas followed them. Vayu carried the sparks for a muhoortham and was totally exhausted. Now it was Agni's turn to carry the sparks.

Even though he himself was the god of fire, he had difficulty in carrying the sparks. He deposited the sparks in Ganges as ordained by Siva.

Ganges got partly dried up but transported the sparks to Saravanap Poigai. All the Devas stood around the Poigai, waiting for a glimpse of the great Sivakumar - their Saviour and protector.

The baby appeared in the Poigai. He has six faces, twelve hands and twelve eyes. His body was one. Dundubis were blown by Devas.

The whole world felt relieved and reassured.Vedas were chanted and Sivakumar was siting on a lotus flower.

1 ( # 11 d) சிறு திருவிளையாடல்கள்.

பொய்கையில் தோன்றிய பெருமானை
மெய்யன்புடன் வளர்க்க வேண்டுமே!

கார்த்திகைப் பெண்கள் அறுவரிடமும்
பார்த்து வளர்க்க வேண்டினர் தேவர்கள்.

"சிவபாலனை வளர்க்கும் பொறுப்பு
சீலவதிகள் உங்களைச் சார்ந்தது."

கரும்பு தின்னக் கூலி கிடைக்குமோ?
கிடைத்தது கார்த்திகைப் பெண்களுக்கு!

அறுவரையுமே தாயாக எண்ணியவன்
ஆறு அழகிய குழவிகள் ஆனான்.

பாலூட்டினர்; தாலாட்டினர்-தாமரை
மலர்கள் மீது உறங்க வைத்தனர்.

ஆறு குழவிகளும் செய்யும் வேறு
வேறு செயல்களை ஒரே நேரத்தில்!

ஒன்று துயிலும், ஒன்று விழிக்கும்;
ஒன்று பால் உண்ணும், ஒன்று தவழும்;

ஒன்று நகைக்கும், ஒன்று சிணுங்கும்;
ஒன்று பாடும், ஒன்று ஆடும்;

ஒன்று கை கொட்டும், ஒன்று கூத்தாடும்,
ஒன்று பொய்கை நீரைக் கலக்கும்.

ஆறு குழந்தைகளும் புரிந்தன
வேறு வேறு திரு விளையாடல்கள்.

காண்பவர்கள் கண்களும், மனங்களும்
களவாடப்பட்டன அச்சிசுக்களால்!

1 (# 11 D). DIVINE PRANKS OF SIVAKUMAR.

The divine baby should be taken care of with love. Devas requested the six Kaarthigai women to take care of the baby.

The ladies were very happy to perform their duties as mothers. Sivakumar wanted to be with all the six ladies. So he transformed himself into six babies and each baby was cared for by one lady.

They fed the babies with milk, sang lullabies and made the children sleep on the lotus flowers in the Poigai.

The six children behaved as though they were indeed six different children. They did different things at the same time.

One of them would go to sleep. Another would wake up from sleep. One of them would drink milk. Another would pretend to cry.

One of them would sing and another would dance. One of them would clap hand and another would churn the Poigai.

The six lovely babies stole the hearts of all the onlookers by their sweet pranks!

1 (# 12). நவ சக்திகள்.

தீப் பொறிகளைக் கண்டு அஞ்சி ஓடிய உமை
திரும்பி வந்தாள் கயிலை நாதனிடம் மீண்டும்;

மகனைப் பிரான் தோற்றுவித்ததை அறிந்து,
மகன் தன்னிடம் தோன்றவில்லை எனச் சினம்!

"என்னிடம் மகன் தோன்றாது தடுத்த அந்த
விண்ணவர் மனைவியர்க்கும் அதுவே நிகழும்!"

பதறி உமை ஓடியபோது திருவடிச் சிலம்பு,
சிதறியது சில நவரத்தினங்களைத் தரையில்.

சிவனருளால் தோன்றியது அதிசயமாக
நவரத்தினங்களிலும் தேவியின் திரு உருவம்.

ஒவ்வொரு மணியினின்றும் ஒரு சக்தி தோன்ற,
ஒன்பது சக்திகளையும் சிவன் அருகே அழைத்தார்.

அண்ணலைக் கண்டு காமுற்ற அத்தேவிகள்
கண் பார்வையினாலே சூலுற்றனர் உடனே.

உமையின் கோபம் மீண்டும் பெருகிடச் சாபம்,
"அமைவீர் நெடுங்காலம் சூலினைச் சுமந்தபடி!"

அஞ்சி நடுங்கிய தேவிகளின் வியர்வையில்,
அஞ்ச வைக்கும் வீரர் நூறாயிரம் தோன்றினர்.

பெருமான் பணித்தார் அந்த வீரர்களை,
"முருகன் படை வீரர்கள் ஆவீர்கள் நீங்கள்!"

சூலினைச் சுமந்தனர் நெடுநாள் நவசக்தியர்,
சூலின் சுமை தாங்க முடியாமல் போனது!

சிவனிடம் சென்று முறையிட அவர் அன்னை
சிவகாமியை அருள் புரிய வேண்டினார்.

வீர மகன்கள் ஒன்பதுபேர்கள் தோன்றினர்.
வீரவாகு பிறந்தான் மாணிக்கவல்லியிடம்.

வீர கேசரி பிறந்தான் மௌத்திகவல்லியிடம்.
வீர மகேந்திரன் பிறந்தான் புஷ்பராகவல்லியிடம்.

வீர மகேசுவரரை ஈன்றாள் கோமேதகவல்லி.
வீர புரந்தர் பிறந்தார் வைடூரியவல்லியிடம்.

வீர ராக்கதர் பிறந்தார் வைரவல்லியிடம்.
வீர மார்த்தாண்டர் பிறந்தார் மரகதவல்லியிடம்,

வீராந்தகர் பிறந்தார் பவளவல்லியிடம்,
வீரதீரர் பிறந்தார் இந்திரநீலவல்லியிடம்.

ஐயனை வணங்கி நின்றனர் ஒன்பதின்மரும்,
அரிய படைக்கலன்கள் அவரிடம் பெற்றனர்.

1 (# 12) THE NAVA SAKTHI.

Uma ran away fearing the intense heat of the sparks. Later she returned to find out that Siva had created His son, without her assistance.

She became very angry at the Devas who had played a dirty trick on her and cursed that none of their wifes would ever bear children.

When Uma ran in a hurry, some of the navaratna scattered from her anklets. By Siva's grace, Uma's form appeared in each of those gems.

Each gem became a Sakthi in the likeness of Uma.
Siva called the nine Devis born out of the nine gems to come near Him.

They fell head over heels in love with Siva and became pregnant by his mere glance. Uma became more angry and cursed them that they would bear the fetus for a very very long time.

Now the nava sakthis got frightened and sweated profusely. From the sweat a hundred thousand robust and valorous sons were born. Siva blessed them and commanded them to become the invincible army of Murugan.

The nava sakthis lived with their garbam for a long time. Soon they were unable to bear the weight of the garbam. They worshiped Siva and begged for His mercy.

Siva told Uma to bless the nava sahthis and she blessed them to have their sons. Nine robust and invincible sons were born to the nine Devis. They worshiped Siva and got rare ayudhams from Him .

They would become the constant companions of Murugan later.

1 (# 13) ஸ்கந்தன்.

"ஆறுமுகனைச் சரவணப் பொய்கையிலிருந்து
அரவணைத்துக் கயிலை அழைத்து வருவோம்!"

இறைவன் கூற இறைவியும் இணங்கினாள்-இனிக்
குறைகள் தீரும் எனத் தேவர்கள் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

பூமாரி பெய்தது, மறை ஒலிகள் முழங்கின.
பூதங்கள் இசைக் கருவிகளை முழக்கின.

வெண்குடை, சாமரம், இடபக் கொடியுடன்,
கண்மணி முருகனிடம் சென்றனர் அவர்கள்.

"உன் மகனை நீ அழைத்து வா!" என்றதும்,
தன் மகனை ஆறுமுகனாக ஆக்கினாள் உமை.

மகனை அணைத்தவுடன் பால் பெருகலானது!
மணிக் கிண்ணத்தில் ஏந்தி மகனுக்கு அளித்தாள்.

அண்ணலை வணங்கச் செய்தாள் அன்னை உமை.
அண்ணல் அமர வைத்தான் மகனைத் தன்னருகில்.

"கார்த்திகைப் பெண்கள் வளர்த்ததால் இவன்
கார்த்திகேயன் என்று பெரும் புகழ் பெறுவான்.

கார்த்திகை நாளில் மெய்யன்போடு இந்தக்
கார்த்திகேயனை வணங்குபவர்க்கு வீடுபேறு!"

மகனுக்காக பெருகிய உமை அன்னையின் பால்
மடுவிலும் விழுந்து கலந்தது பொய்கையில்.

முனிவர் சாபத்தால் மீன்களாகிக் கிடந்த
முனிகுமாரர்கள் அப்பாலைப் பருகினர்.

மீன் வடிவம் மறைந்து சுயவுரு எய்தினர்.
தன்னை வணங்கும்அவர்களுக்கு உரைத்தான்,

"திருப்பரங்குன்றம் சென்று தவம் புரிவீர்.
திருமுருகன் அருள் கிடைக்கும் உமக்கு!"

மீண்டும் கயிலையை அடைந்த அவர்கள்
காண்பதற்கு அரிய காட்சியில் அமர்ந்தனர்.

1 (# 13). SKANDAN.

"Let us go and bring our son from Saravanap poigai to Kailash" Siva told Uma. She agreed happily. All the Devas were delighted that their troubles would end very soon.

Flowers rained from the sky. Vedas were chanted. Musical instruments were played. The snow white umbrella, the chaamaram and the flags of Siva accompanied the group.They reached Saravanap poigai.

"Go and bring your son!" Siva told Uma.
Uma hugged the six children together and made them into one baby with six heads and twelve arms.

The moment she hugged the child, milk started flowing. She collected it in a crystal cup and fed her son.

She carried her son and made him pay his respect
to Siva. Siva made his son sit beside Him and blessed the Six Kaarthigai women.

"This son will be known as Kaarthigeyan since you have brought him up. Whosoever worships him on Karthigai day with sincere devotion will be liberated from samsaara."

The milk that fell in to the pond was drunk by the six sons of Parasara rusi - who had cursed them to become fish and live in that poigai.

They got saapa vimochanam and regained their original form. They knelt down to Siva. He blessed them and told them,
"Go to Thirupparagkundram and do penance there. Murugan will come there and grace you."

Siva, Uma and Skandan went to Kailash and sat in their throne.

1 (# 14. a.) முருகனின் குறும்பு.

குறும்பு செய்வது முருகனுக்குக் கரும்பு.
திருவடிகளில் தண்டை, சிலம்பு, கழல்,
திருநுதலில் வீரப்பட்டிகை ஒளிர்ந்திடும்,
அரையில் கிண்கிணி, காதில் குண்டலங்கள்!

மன்றுகள், தடாகம், பூங்கா, ஆறுகள்,
குன்றுகள், விண்வெளி, மண்வெளி, திக்குகள்,
கடல்கள், கதிரவன், திங்கள் என்னும் பற்பல,
இடங்கள் அனைத்திலும் இனிதே உலாவுவான்.

ஆறு முகத்துடனும், ஒரு முகத்துடனும்,
அரிய முனிவராக, இனிய சிறுவனாக,
பறந்தும் ஓடியும், நடந்தும் செல்வான்,
பரி, கரி, தேர், விமானம் ஏறி அமர்ந்து.

குழல் ஊதுவான், வீணை இசைப்பான்,
முழக்குவான் கருவிகள், மணி அடிப்பான்,
மலைகளைக் கொண்டு வந்து குவிப்பான்;
தலை தடுமாற நிறுத்துவான் நிலத்தில்!

வருத்துவான் கடல்களை ஓரிடத்துக்கு.
புகுத்துவான் மேருவைப் பாதாளத்தில்.
நிறுத்துவான் கங்கை நதியைத் தடுத்து,
பொருத்துவான் திக்கஜங்களை ஒன்றாக.

கங்கை நீரால் அணைப்பான் ஊழித்தீயை;
கருடனும், வாசுகியும் போர் புரிந்திடும்;
பாதாள நாகங்கள் நிலத்திற்கு வரும்,
பாதாளத்தில் சென்று சேரும் கடல் நீர்.

கதிரவன் செல்வான் திங்கள் மண்டலத்துக்கு
திங்கள் இடம் பெயரும் கதிரவன் மண்டலத்துக்கு.
கனவிலும் எண்ணமுடியாத பல லீலைகளை
நனவாக்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தான் பாலமுருகன்.

1(# 14 A. ) THE PRANKS OF MURUGAN.

Skandaa was fond of pranks and was very mischievous.

His feet were adorned with various leg ornaments like thandai, silambu, chathangai and kazhal.
A brilliant ornament adorned his forehead.

Kundalams were seen in his ears and kinkini in his waist. He loved to explore the hills, ponds, parks, rivers, the eight directions, space, sky, earth, oceans, sun and moon.

He would appear with his six faces, or with just one face, he would appear as a rushi or as a mere child.
He would ride on a horse, an elephant, a chariot or a vimaanam.

He would play a flute, a veena, other musical instruments, ring a bell and dance. He would heap all the mountains in a place. He would place them upside down. He would collect all the oceans in one place.

He would push mount Meru into paatala. He would stop the flow of Ganges. He would make the dig gajas fight among themselves. He would put off the pralayaagni with the water of Ganga.

Garuda would be made to fight with Vasuki. The snakes of the paatala would infest the earth and the water of the oceans would flow to paatala. Sun would be placed in the moon's sphere, moon would be placed in the sun's sphere.

All the impossible were made possible by the mischievous Skanda.

1. (# 14 .b) முருகனின் பெருமை.

திருமுருகனின் திருவிளையாடல்கள் கண்டு
பெருமிதம் அடைந்தாள் உமை அன்னை;

"பிற குழந்தைகளைப் போல் இல்லை இவன்!
சிறப்புக்களை எடுத்து உரைப்பீர்களா ஐயனே?"

"கங்கை ஆற்றால் தாங்கப்பட்ட நம் மகன்
காங்கேயன் என்ற பெயரில் புகழ் அடைவான்.

சரவணப் பொய்கையில் தோன்றியதால் இவன்
சரவணபவன் என்னும் பெயர் பெறுவான்.

குழந்தைகள் இணைந்து ஒன்றானதால்
குழந்தை கந்தன் எனப் புகழ் பெறுவான்.

என் ஆறு முகங்களே அவன் ஆறு முகங்கள்;
என் தாரக மந்திரமே அவன் ஆறு எழுத்துக்கள்;

என் சக்தியின் வடிவமே திரு முருகன்;
எனக்கும் அவனுக்கும் வேறுபாடு இல்லை!

குழந்தையாகக் காணப் பட்டாலும் அவன்
குண நலன்களின் சிகரம் ஆவான் !

நான்முகனைச் சிறையில் அடைப்பான்;
தானே படைப்புத் தொழிலைச் செய்வான்

தேவர்கள் மனத் துயர் துடைப்பான்;
தேவர்களின் விரோதிகளை வெல்வான்.

ஈன்ற பொழுதிலும் பெரிதுவக்கும் தன் மகனைச்
சான்றோன் எனக் கேட்ட தாய் அல்லவா?

தந்தையின் வாய்ச் சொற்களாலே தன்
மைந்தன் பெருமைகளை அறிந்து மகிழ்ந்தாள்.
