A poem a day to keep all agonies away!

1 (#3.a) Creation comes to a halt!While Parvathi was doing tapas, Soorapadman did severe penance and got many boons. He became intoxicated with his invincible power and started harassing the three worlds.

Sanakan and his three brothers had already got Siva's upadesam, but they were still unable to control their minds. So they went to Kailash and begged Siva to give them Gnaanam.

Siva instructed Nandhi not to let anyone inside except Manmathan. He explained the "sariyai, kiriyai and yogam" again to the four brothers. They requested to be blessed with Gnaanam.

Siva replied that Gnaanam cannot be imparted by mere words. He sat in Sivayogam and gave true knowledge and perfect bliss to the four brothers. Their minds were completely conquered now.

Siva sat in yoga only for a moment. But it extended to many yugas in the mortal world. The living creatures lost all interest in procreation and the creation itself came to a grinding halt and the srushti to a standstill.
 
1. (#3 b). இந்திரன் தவம்.

யோகத்தில் நம் ஈசன் அமர்ந்திருக்க,
துரோகம் இழைத்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

பரிவாரங்களுடன் தப்பிப்பிழைத்த
பரிதாப இந்திரன் இம்மண்ணுலகில்!

"இடர்ப்பாடுகளை நீக்க வல்லவன்
இறைவன் ஒருவன் மட்டுமே" என்று

கயிலை சென்றவன் காண முடியவில்லை,
கண்ணுதல் பிரானை கணநேரம் ஆகிலும்!

பானுகோபன் சூரனின் ஒரு வீர மகன்;
பானுவைப் போலவே கோபிப்பானோ?

பானுவிடமே கோபம் கொள்வானோ?
பானுகோபன் கோபத்துக்கு பலி சுவர்க்கம்!

தன் விண்ணகரத்தையும் அழித்துவிட்டு
தன் மகன் ஜெயந்தனையும் சிறைவைத்த,

கொடியவனை வெல்ல நல்ல வழி தேடி
கொடிய தவம் செய்தான் மேருவின் மேல்.

தவத்துக்கு மசியாதவனா நம் ஈசன்?
தவத்தை மெச்சிக் காட்சி தந்தான்.

ஏதும் அறியாதவர் போல் பேச, "ஈசன்
தீது நீக்கி அருள"வேண்டினான் இந்திரன்.

"என்னை இகழ்ந்த தக்ஷன் யாகத்துக்கு
முன்னம் நீங்கள் சென்றதன் பலன் இது.

என்னிடம் தோன்றுவான் ஒரு வீரமகன்
துன்பம் தீர்த்து உம் துயர் துடைத்திட!"

1. (# 3b). Indra's penance.

While Siva was immersed in Sivayogam, Soorapadman started disturbing the three worlds.

Indra escaped by the skin of his teeth and reached the earth with Indrani and other Deva.

When the solution of a problem proves to be beyond our capacity, only god should help us to solve it.
Indra went to Kailash but could not meet Siva.

Soorapadman's son Bhanugopan destroyed Amaravathy and imprisoned all the remaining Devas - including Indra's son Jayanthan. Indra started severe penance on Mount Meru.

Siva was pleased and appeared in front of him. He spoke as if He was not aware of Indra's problems.
Indra explained his real plight and begged for Siva's help.

"Dakshan humiliated me and yet all the Devas attended his yaaga. This is the punishment for your folly. A valorous son will be born to me. He will put an end to all your troubles soon." Siva consoled Indra.
 
1 (# 3 c). நான்முகனிடம் செல்லுதல்.

"இறைவன் கயிலையில் யோக நிலையில்!
இறைவியோ இமயத்தில் தவக் கோலத்தில்!

எப்படி இவர்களின் வீரமகன் தோன்றுவான்?
எப்போது எங்கள் துயர் துடைப்பான்?"

குருவின் பாதுகாவலில் இந்திராணி!
மறுபடிச் சென்றான் அவன் பிரமலோகம்.

படைத்தல் தொழில் நின்றே போனதால்,
சடைத்தல் மிகுந்து இருந்தான் பிரமன்.

தனது துயர்களைக் கூறினான் இந்திரன்,
தனக்கு ஈசன் தந்த வரத்தையும் கூட!

"துன்பங்களைத் தீர்க்கும் சூரமகன்
தோன்றுவது எப்போது, எப்படி?"

"ஈசனின் யோகம் நம் நன்மைக்கே.
பூசிக்கும் அன்னையின் தவக் கோலமும்.

நம் தீவினைப் பயன் தீர்ந்து போனதும்,
நம்பி அவதரிப்பான் நம்பிக்கை வை!

முயற்சியுடையார் இகழ்ச்சி அடையார்.
முயற்சி திருவினை ஆக்கும் அறிவாய்!

திருமாலின் திருவருள் ஒன்று இருந்தாலே
தீர்ந்துவிடும் நம் சிரமங்கள் எல்லாம்."

அயன் சொற்படியே தேவர்கள் கூட்டம்
அய்யனிடம் சென்று சரண் புகுந்தது

அறிதுயிலில் மகிழும் திருமாலும்
பெரிதுவந்து இன்மொழிகள் பயின்றார்.

1 (# 3c). A visit to Brahma lokam.

"Siva is in yoga in Kailash. Devi is in penance in Himalayas. How and when will they get a son? When will he wipe out our troubles?" Indra got more and more confused as he thought on this line.

He left Indrani under the protection of his kulaguru and went to Brahma lokam. Since creation had come to a grinding halt, Brahma was in boredom. Indra elaborated his troubles and told about Siva's promise.

Brahma replied thus, "Whatever Siva does is for our own good. He will beget his valorous son as soon as our bad karmas are exhausted and we are ready for his grace. All the same we must do our part well. Let us visit Vishnu. He will surely guide us properly."

So they all left for Vaikunta. Vishnu welcomed them and spoke to them kindly.
 
1 ( # 3 d ). மாலுடன் சந்திப்பு.

கூடி வந்திருந்த தேவர்களைக் கண்டதும்
ஓடி வந்து வரவேற்றார் அறிதுயில் மால்;

"நலம் தானா பிரம தேவா? தேவர்களே?
நலமாக நடக்கிறதா படைப்புத் தொழில்?"

ஆதியோடு அந்தமாக விவரங்களை
வேதபிரமன் விவரித்தான் அவருக்கு.

சனகாதியர் கயிலைமலை சென்றது...
முனிவர்கள் மனம் அடங்கி ஒடுங்கிட...

யோகத்தில் சிவபிரான் அமர்ந்துவிட...
போகத்தை உயிரினங்கள் துறந்துவிட...

காமம் ஒழிந்து முற்றிலும் அழிந்துவிட...
கர்மாதீனப் பிறப்பு முழுதும் நின்றுவிட...

மூவுலகையும் சூரபத்மன் சூறையாட...
தேவர்களும் ஜயந்தனும் சிறைப்பட...

"ஈசன் யோகநிலை நீங்கிட வேண்டும்,
பூசிக்கும் தாயை மணந்திடவேண்டும்,

படைப்புகள் தொடர்ந்திட ஒரே வழி,
இடர்களைத் துடைத்திட அதுவே வழி!

காமனால் மட்டுமே கலைக்க முடியும்
மோனத்தில் அமர்ந்துள்ள ஈசன் மனதை,

அவனால் இயலாது போகுமானால் வேறு
எவனாலும் இயலாது என்று அறிவோம்."

"நல்ல யுக்தியை அளித்தீர் பரந்தாமா!
வெல்லும் மன்மதனையே ஏவுகின்றேன்.

நல்ல செய்தி ஒன்று விரைவில் வரும்.
செல்வ மகன் அவதரிப்பது உறுதி"

மனம் மகிழ்ந்து திரும்பினர் தேவர்கள்
கனவுகள் கண்டனர் துயரம் தீர்ந்ததாக.

1 (# 3 d). MEETING MAHAA VISHNU.

Vishnu welcomed the group eagerly. He asked about the welfare of everyone there. Brahma related to Him all the recent happenings in great detail.

The visit to Kailash by Sanakan and his three brothers; Siva sitting in yoga to help them conquer their minds; all the living creatures losing interest in procreation;
the imprisonment of the Devas and Jayanthan by Soorapadman etc.

Vishnu replied," Siva must give up and come put of his yoga sthithi. He must wed Parvathi Devi. It is the only solution to all our problems now. Manmathan can conquer any body's mind and senses. Let him divert Siva from His yoga, using his special powers."

Brahma was very happy with this solution. As for the Devas they already imagined that their problems have come to an end. So the whole group went back happily.
 
1 ( # 4 a). பிரமனும், மன்மதனும்.

காமனை மனத்தால் நினைத்தான் பிரமன்;
காமன் வந்தான், " பிரபு! ஆணையிடுங்கள்!"

"மலர்க் கணைகளை ஈசன் மீது செலுத்தி
மலைமகளை அவர் மணக்கச் செய்வாய்!

அவதரிக்கப் போகும் திருமகன் ஒருவனே
அவனியோர் துயர் துடைக்க வல்லவன்.

அவுணர்கள் தரும் தொல்லை அறியாதவனா?
தேவர்கள் படும் துயர்கள் தெரியாதவனா நீ?"

இடியேறுண்ட ஒரு நாகம் போல மன்மதன்
நடுநடுங்கி மூடிக் கொண்டான் செவிகளை.

"மற்றவர்களை வெல்லும் திறனை எனக்கு
குற்றமில்லாத சிவன்றோ அளித்தார்!

அவர் அளித்த அற்புத சக்தியை நான்
அவர் மீதே செலுத்தக் கூடுமோ கூறும்!

நகைப்பினாலேயே முப்புரங்களை எரித்து
திகைக்க வைத்தவர் சிவனே அன்றோ?

பாலன் ஒருவனைக் காக்க வேண்டிக்
காலனைக் காலால் உதைத்தவர் அன்றோ?

கடவுள் நானே என்று சொல்லித் திரிந்த
உம் நடு சிரசைக் கிள்ளி எடுத்தவர் யார்?

ஈசனை இகழ்ந்து செய்த வேள்வியால்
மோசம் போன தக்ஷனை அறியீரோ?

நஞ்சினைக் கண்ட அனைவரும் அஞ்சி ஓடிட,
கொஞ்சமும் அஞ்சாமல் அருந்தியவர் யார்?

கங்கையைத் தன் சடையில் தாங்கியவர் யார்?
சிங்கத்தின் வயிற்றைக் கிழித்தவர் யார்?

கரிய யானையின் தோலை உரித்தவர் யார்?
வரிப் புலியின் தோலை அணிந்தவர் யார்?

நெற்றிக் கண்ணில் தோன்றும் ஒற்றைப் பொறி
பற்றி எரியச் செய்யும் மொத்த உலகங்களையும்!

கரும்பு வில்லும், மலர்க்கணையும் ஏந்தி நான்
அருகில் செல்லேன் முழுமுதற் கடவுளிடம்!"

1 # 4 (a) BRAHMAN AND MANMATHAN.

Brahman thought of Manmathan. He appeared immediately and asked, "What do want of me?"

"Shoot your flower arrows on Siva to make him marry Parvathi Devi. Only their son can save us from the atrocities of Soorapadman."

Manmathan shivered violently and covered his ears.

"It is Siva who has given me the power to win over anyone. Surely I can't use it on Him. He burned Tripuram just by His laughter. To save a young devotee, He kicked Yama - the God of Death.

When you and Hari were arguing as to who was the superior God, He nipped one of your heads! You know the fate of Daksha who humiliated Siva. When everyone took to their heels fearing the potency of the poison during Amrutha mathanam, it was Siva who dared to drink it.

Only He could contain the destructive power of Aakaash Ganga during her descent to the earth. He tore open the stomach of a narasimham. He ripped the hide of an elephant and the skin of a ferocious tiger.

A single spark of fire coming out of his third eye is enough to destroy the whole creation. Whatever you may say, I will never go to Siva carrying my sugarcane bow and flower arrows".
 
1 (# 4 b). பிரமனின் கோபம்.

"உண்மையே கூறினாய் நீ மன்மதா!
நன்மையையும் சற்று எண்ணிப்பார்.

உன்னையன்றி இச்செயல் செய்யும்
வன்மையுடையவர் யார் எனக் கூறு!

'எல்லாம் அவன் செயல்' என்று நான்
சொல்லாமலேயே நீ அறியாயோ?

தன்னுயிர் பேண விரும்புவதால் நீ
மன்னுயிர் துயருற விட்டு விடலாமா?

பிறர் துயர் தீர்க்கும் முயற்சியில்
பிறழ்ந்தால் வருமே தீராப் பழி!

அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர்
அன்புடையோர் என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு.

விருத்திரனைக் கொல்ல வச்சிரத்தை
இரந்து பெற்றான் இந்திரன் ததீசியிடம்.

பல்லுயிர் காக்க உன்னுயிர் ஈந்தால்
நல்லுலகம் போற்றும், அல்லும் பகலும்.

சூரனின் கொடுமையை அடக்கி ஒடுக்க
வீர மகன் ஒருவன் தோன்றிட வேண்டும்.

அனைத்து உலகையும் காக்கும் பணி
உனக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டதை உணர்வாய்."

"இறைவனுக்கு மாறாக நடவேன் நான்!
வேறு எதுவாகிலும் உவந்து செய்வேன்"

"நயத்தால் அல்லது பயத்தால் செய்வாய்!
மயக்கம் தீர்வாயா? சாபம் கொள்வாயா?"

"சாபம் பெற்று உம்மால் அழிவதிலும்,
கோபம் பெற்று ஈசனால் அழிவதே மேல்.

கடமையை ஆற்றச் செல்லும் எந்தன்
மடமையை ஈசன் மன்னிக்கட்டும்!"

சென்றான் தன் அன்பு மனைவி ரதியிடம்.
சொன்னான் நிகழ்ந்தவற்றை எல்லாம்.

கலங்கிய உள்ளத்தை மறைத்துக்கொண்டு,
கலங்கியவளைத் தெளிய வைத்தான் அவன்.

மலர்க் கணைகள் நிறைந்த தூணி முதுகில்;
மாந்தளிர் உடைவாள் அழகிய இடையில்;

கரும்பு வில்லை ஏந்தினான் தன் கையில்;
கடலே முரசம்! குயில்களே காகளங்கள்!

குதிரைகளோ கிளிகள்! தென்றலே தேர்!
ரதியுடன் பறந்தான் தன் தேரில் ஏறி.

கயிலையை அடைந்து நந்தியைப் பணிய,
ஐயன் கட்டளைப்படி அனுமதித்தான் நந்தி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
1 (# 4 b). BRAHMA'S ANGER!

"Truly spoken Manmathaa! But think of the welfare of the world. Tell me who else is capable of performing this deed besides you.

Everything is done by God Himself using the others as instruments. Can you sacrifice the lives of all the others just to save your own? If you refuse so bluntly to help others, you will be blamed all your life.

Those whose hearts are filled with love for the others, will be ready to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the others. Indra begged for the backbone of Dadichi - to enable him to kill Vruthrasura.

If you help, your praise will be sung as long as the creation lasts. Soorapadman's atrocities must be put an end to. For that Siva must beget a valorous son. Your assistance is needed and you are given a great opportunity to help the world!".

Manmathan still refused to oblige. Brahma lost his temper and threatened him thus, "Either you do as you are told or be prepared to be cursed!"

"It is far better to die facing the anger of the lord than die by your curse! May God forgive me and my folly, since I am only performing my duty"

He went to his wife Rathi and told her of all the happenings. She was moved to tears. He consoled her and got ready for his assignment.

Flowers were his arrows; tender mango leaf his sword; sugarcane was his bow; the sea was his drum, the cuckoos were his trumpets; parrots were his horses and the southern wind was his chariot.

He flew with his lovely wife to Kailash and prostrated to Nandi. Nandhi let him go in, as per the order of Siva.
 
1 # (4 c). ரதியின் கண்ணீர்.

நந்தியை வணங்கிக் கயிலையில் நுழைந்தவன்
நடுங்கினான் சரபத்தைக் கண்ட சிங்கம் போல்;

நான்முகனுக்குத் தந்த வாக்கை நிறைவேற்றிட
நாண் ஏற்றித் தொடுத்தான் மலர்க் கணைகள்.

மலர்க்கணை தொட்டதும் திறந்தன கண்கள்;
மலையெங்கும் புகைசூழ மதன் எரிந்துபோனான்.

முன் போலவே ஈசன் யோகத்தில் அமர்ந்திடவே,
தன் மார்பில் அடித்துக் கொண்டு ரதி அழுதாள்.

"திருமகளின் திருமகனே! திருமால் செல்வனே!
கரும்பு வில் அழகனே! கடமை தவறாதவனே!

நான்முகன் உன்னைக் கொல்லாமல் கொன்றான்!
உன்னை விட்டு தனியே இனிமேல் நான் இரேன்! .

தேவர்கள் பேச்சைக் கேட்டுக் கயிலை சென்றாய்.
பேதை என்னை தனியாள் ஆக்கினாய் இன்று.

தேவர்கள் மனம் கல்லாகிப் போனதோ?
தேவைக்குப் பயன்படுத்தி உதறிவிட்டனரே!

மீண்டும் உனக்கு உயிர்ப்பிச்சை தரும்படி,
ஆண்டவனிடம் வேண்டுபவர் யாரோ?"

1 # (4c). RATHI'S SORROW.

Manmathan entered into Siva's presence. He saw Siva in yoga and shuddered like a lion cub at the sight of the mythological bird sarabam.

He remembered his mission and his promise to Brahma. The Devas were watching the happenings with deep interest. Manmathan shot the flower arrows on Siva.

The moment the flowers touched His body, Siva opened His eyes slightly. Manmathan got burned to ashes by a spark from Siva's eyes. Siva went back to his yoga.

Rathi's sorrow knew no bounds! She cried in a heartrending manner,

"Dear husband! The pet son of Lakshmi Devi, The son of mahaa Vishnu! The wielder of sugarcane bow and the most beautiful and dutiful of all the Devas!

Brahma conspired your death. The Deva used you and sacrificed you. I will not live without you! Have the hearts of the Devas turned into stones? Is there no one to beg for your resurrection?"
 
1 (# 5). ஈசன் மோனம் நீங்குதல்.

"நினைத்தது ஒன்று, நடந்தது ஒன்று" என்று ஆயிற்று!

நினைத்தபடி ஈசன் விடவில்லை யோகநிலையை.

காமன் முயற்சியும் வெற்றி பெறவில்லை அங்கே!

காமன், கண்பார்வையில் சாம்பல் ஆகிவிட்டான்.

இறைவனின் உள்ளத்தை உருக்க வல்லது

இறைஞ்சும் அடியவரின் இனிய மொழியே.

"துயர் துடைத்திடுவீர் ஐயனே - இன்றேல் எம்

உயிர் பறித்திடுவீர்! எமக்கு சரணாகதி நீரே!"

அனைவரையும் வரப் பணித்தான் ஈசன்;

அனைவர் குறைகளையும் கேட்டறிந்தான்;

"நீங்குங்கள் உங்கள் மனவருத்தம் உடனே ;

நீங்கள் விழைவது நடக்கும் உறுதியாக!"

பூசித்து ஈசனை வணங்கினாள் ரதிதேவியும்,

"நேசிக்கும் கணவன் உயிர்த்தெழ வேண்டும்!"

"உமையை யாம் வதுவை புரிகையில்

இமயத்தில் உயிர்த்தெழுவான் மன்மதன்"

இமைக்காமல் சென்று ரதி தங்கினாள்

உமை மணக் கோலம் காண இமயத்தில்.

நால்வருக்கும் மீண்டும் செப்பினான் ஈசன்

"நாவினால் நவிலர்ப்பாலதன்று ஞானம்!

தியானத்தில் அமர்ந்து மூழ்கித் தேடி,

மோனத்தில் நம்மை அறிவதே ஞானம்!

யோகத்தால் பண்படுவீர்கள் நீங்கள் - பின்

லோகத்தினர் விழையும் பரகதி பெறுவீர்!"

1.(# 5). COMING OUT OF YOGA STHITHI.

Devas planned something but something else had happened! Siva did not come out of Siva Yogam.

Manmathan got burned to ashes. His efforts were in vain. The only way to melt God's heart is by sincere prayers.

The Devas prayed in Unison,"Oh Lord! Put an end to our sufferings or put an end to our lives!"

Siva called in everyone and learned about their troubles. He promised them to do the needful and told them to go back in peace.

Rathi prayed that her most beautiful and dutiful husband be brought back to life.

Siva promised her,"Your husband will come back alive on the day I wed Uma in Himalayas."

Rathi went and waited in Himalayas for the God's wedding to take place.

Siva told Sanakan and his three brothers that gnaanam can't be imparted by mere words. One has to sit in dhyanam, go deep within himself and realize his true self - to acquire gnaanam.

1 (# 6 a). சிவனும், உமையும்.

உமையின் தவக் கோலத்தைக் காண
இமயம் சென்றார் சிவன், தவசீலராக!

அழைத்துச் சென்றனர் உமையிடம் - பின்
ஆசனம் அளித்து உபசரித்தனர் தோழியர்.

"சிறு பெண்ணே! உடல் வருந்தி இளைக்கப்
பெரும் தவம் செய்யக் காரணம் என்ன?"

"முக்கட் பிரானை மணம் புரிய விரும்பி
இக்கன்னி செய்கின்றாள் அரும் தவம்!"

"நான்முகனும், நெடுமாலும் காண்பதற்கரிய
நந்தி வாஹனன் இத்தவத்துக்கு எளியவரோ?

மணம் புரிவாரா உன் தவத்துக்கு இரங்கி?
குணம் அறிவீரா அந்த முக்கண்ணனுடைய?"

"முதலும், முடிவும் இல்லாத அவன் மறுத்தாலும்,
நுதற்கண் பெருமான் மீது தவம் செய்வேன் நான்!"

"சிவனைப் பற்றி நன்கு அறிவேன் நான்.
அவனைப் பற்றிக் கூறுகின்றேன் கேள்!

ஆடையோ தோல்! ஊர்தியோ ஓர் எருது!
ஓடே உண்ணும் கலம்! உணவோ நஞ்சு!

அணிகலன்கள் எலும்பும், பன்றிக்கோடும்,
பணிகளும், பல கபால மாலைகளும்,

இருப்பிடமோ சுடுகாடு! படைகளோ பூதங்கள்!
விரும்பும் ஆயுதங்கள் சூலம், மழு, தீ!

தந்தையும் இல்லை, ஒரு தாயும் இல்லை!
சொந்த பந்தம் என்று எவரும் இல்லை.

மலை அரசனின் அருந்தவப் புதல்வி நீ!
விலை கொடுத்து வம்பை வாங்குவது ஏன்?"

"பொய்க்கோலம் பூண்டு வந்த பார்ப்பனரே!
மெய்யன்பர் பேசும் வார்த்தைகளா இவை?

அவுணர்களிலும் மிகுந்த கொடியவர் நீர்!
சிவனின் பெருமைகளைக் குறை கூறினீர்!

ஈசன் மகிமையை உணர்ந்தவர் எவர்?
பூசனை செய்யாதவர் போகலாம் வெளியே!"

1 # (6a). SIVA AND UMA.

Siva wanted to witness Uma's tapas. He transformed himself into an old brahmin sanyasi and reached Himalayas.

Uma's friends guided him to her and offered him a seat. The old man asked Uma, "Why do you do severe tapas and suffer thus?".

Her friends replied that Uma wanted to marry Siva and hence this tapas.

"Siva can't be seen even by Brahma and Vishnu as and when they please. Do you think your tapas will make Siva's heart melt and make him marry you?

"Whether or not Siva marries me I will continue my tapas." Uma replied.

"I personally know Siva very well. I will tell you all about Him. Listen to me carefully now!

He wears the skins of animals. He rides on a bull. He eats begged food out of a skull. His favorite food is poison!

His ornaments are bones and tusks of boars.
His jewels are poisonous snakes and kapaala maalaa. He dances on the cremation ground.

His army consists of monsters. His favorite weapons are trisoola, mazhu and fire. He has neither a father nor a mother nor any kin nor kith.

You are the pretty daughter of the King of mountains. Why do you wish that a person like Siva should become your husband?"

Uma got wild with anger and burst out,"I am sure you are not a real sanyasi nor a brahmin. No devotee of God can utter such crude and cruel words.

Not even the asuras speak ill of Siva in this manner. If you dislike Siva, you must leave this place immediately. Please go away!"
 
1 # (6b) ஈசனின் தரிசனம்.

"உன்னையே மணம் புரிய விரும்பி வந்தேன்,
என்னையே நீ வெளியேறச் சொல்லலாமா?

இது தகுமா? இது முறையா? இது தருமமா?"
பதை பதைத்த உமை இடம் பெயர்ந்தாள்!

விண்ணில் அவள் கண்ட காட்சி தான் என்ன?
விடையேறும் பிரான் அடியார்கள் புடைசூழ!

"ஐயனே உம்மைக் கண்டு கொள்ளாமல் பேதை
ஐயமுற்று வன்மொழிகள் பகர்ந்து விட்டேன்!"

"இகழ்ந்து நீ உரைத்தவற்றை எல்லாம்
புகழ்ந்து உரைத்ததாக எண்ணுகின்றேன்.

உடலை வருத்தும் தவத்தை விட்டுவிடு.
உடன் வந்து மணம் புரிவேன் நாளையே!"

மகிழ்ந்த தோழிகள் ஓடோடிச் சென்று
நிகழ்ந்தவற்றைத் தாய் தந்தைக்குக் கூற;

அன்னையும் தந்தையும் விரைந்து வந்து
அன்புடன் உமையைக் கூட்டிச் சென்றனர்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
1 # (6b). THE DHARSHAN.

"I have come here in order to marry you and you tell me to get out! Is it fair? Is it just? Is it Dharma?"

Uma got badly agitated and tried to leave the place in a hurry. But just then what did she see in the sky high above?

It was Siva seated on his Nandhi and surrounded by his devotees.

"Oh Lord! I failed to recognize you and spoke to you harsh words. Please forgive me"

"I consider your harsh words as sweet words of praise. Do not punish yourself with this penance. I shall marry you tomorrow"

Uma's friends and attendants ran to the Himavaan and Mona Devi and told them of the happenings. They came to Uma in great joy and took her home with them.
 
1 (#7). மணம் பேசுதல்.

மணம் பேசி முடிவு செய்தால் அன்றோ
மணம் புரிந்து கொள்ள இயலும் பின்னர்?

உமையை மணம் பேசிட முனிவர்களை,
இமயத்துக்கு அனுப்பினான் சிவபிரான்.

இமவானும், மோனையும் வரவேற்றனர்
சிவனருள் பெற்ற முனிபுங்கவர்களை.

"இறைவனுக்கு உமையை மணம் பேசிட,
பிறையணி நாதன் பணித்தான் எம்மை!"

உமையைத் திருமணம் செய்து தர
இமவான் ஒப்பினான் மகிழ்வுடன்.

மோனைக்கு அச்சம் இருந்ததால்,
தானே கேள்விக்கணை தொடுத்தாள்.

"தக்ஷன் மகளைச் சிவபிரான் மணந்தான்;
தக்ஷன் தலையைக் கொய்வித்தான் அவன்,

அக்கதையைக் கேட்டு அஞ்சுகின்றேன் நான்
முக்கண்ணனுக்கு எம் மகளை அளிக்க!"

"மகளை மணம் செய்வித்ததால் தக்ஷன்
தலையைக் கொய்யவில்லை சிவன்,

சிவனை இகழ்ந்து வேள்வி செய்ததால்,
அவனை அழிக்கவேண்டி இருந்தது தாயே!

தன்னைப் பணிவோருக்குத் தண்ணருளும்,
தன்னை இகழ்வோருக்கு இன்னல்களும்,

பிறையணி நாதன் ஈவது இயல்பே!
மறையோரும் பிறரும் அறிவார் இதை."

"பெண் புத்தி பின் புத்தி என்பதற்கேற்ப
உண்மை அறியாமல் பிதற்றி விட்டேன்!"

மன்னிப்புக் கேட்டாள் முனிபுங்கவரிடம்,
தன் தவற்றை உணர்ந்த அன்னை மோனாதேவி.

"ஈசனுக்கு மகளை மணம் செய்வதற்கு
நேசத்துடன் யாம் காத்துள்ளோம் அறிவீர்!

நாளையே இங்கு எழுந்தருளி, நல்ல
வேளையில் மணம் புரியவேண்டும்!"

இன்சொற்களை இமவான் இங்ஙனம் கூற
இன்பம் அடைந்தனர் முனிபுங்கவர்கள்.

அன்புடன் நடந்ததைச் சிவனுக்கு உரைத்துப்
பின்பு தம் இருப்பிடம் திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்.

1. (# 7) THE WEDDING PROPOSAL.

The wedding should be proposed by the groom and accepted by the parents of the bride. Siva requested the rushis to talk on his behalf to Uma's parents and get the proposal accepted by them.

The king and queen welcomed the rushis. They explained the purpose of their visit. Himavaan was more than happy at the proposal but Mona Devi had had her own doubts and shot a question at the rushis.

"I hear that Siva beheaded Dakshan -whose daughter he had married. This makes me hesitate as I am afraid of Siva!"

"Siva did not kill Dakshan because He had married his daughter. It was because Dakshan humiliated Siva on purpose - during the Yagnam performed by him. Siva blesses and protects His devotees and punishes the miscreants. Everyone knows this to be true."

Mona Devi begged for pardon and repented her hasty remarks. Himavaan requested the rushis to inform Siva that He should come there the next day to marry Uma at an auspicious hour.

The rushis were happy that their mission had been successful. They went to Kailash, told Siva of all the happenings. They took leave of Him and went back to their dwellings.

 
1 (# 8 a). திருமண ஏற்பாடுகள்.

திருக்காட்சி தந்து அருளினான் உமைக்கு!
திருமணம் பேச அனுப்பினான் முனிவரை!

உலக அன்னை உமையின் திருமணம்
உலகத் தந்தை சிவ பெருமானுடன்!

நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் எதிரில் நின்றான்
அனைத்தும் அறிந்த தேவத் தச்சன்.

"திருமணத்திற்காக அலங்கரிப்பாய்
பருவதத்தை அமராவதிக்கு நிகராக!"

திறமைகளை எல்லாம் வெளிக்காட்டி,
அழகிய நகரையே உருவாக்கினான்!

கோபுரங்கள், மண்டபங்கள், பந்தல்கள்,
சாமரங்கள், மலர் மாலைகள், கொடிகள்,

தோரணங்கள், வாழை, பாக்கு மரங்கள்,
தோதாகப் பொருட் சாலைகள் என்று.

பதினாதிரம் யோஜனை பரப்புள்ள மதில்!
திசைக்கொன்றாக வாசலில் கோபுரங்கள்;

பசும் பொன் மண்டபம் ஒன்று நடுவிலே;
பன்னீர், சந்தனம், கஸ்தூரி தெளித்தான்.

பல வண்ணத் திண்ணைகள் அமைத்தான்
சிலைகளை அழகுற நிறுவி அமைத்தான்.

இந்திர நீல இரத்தின அரியணை ஒன்று
சுந்தர மணமக்கள் மண்டபத்தில் எழுந்தருள!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
1 (# 8A). THE WEDDING ARRANGEMENTS.

Siva had given dharshan to Uma. He had sent the Rishivars to move the marriage proposal. The wedding of the 'Mother of the Universe' with 'Father of Creation'!

Himavaan thought of the heavenly carpenter, and he appeared there in a moment. "It is the wedding of the Gods. Decorate Himalaya to match with Amaravathy."

The divine carpenter was well pleased with his assignment. He built an entire city on the mountain!

There were Gopurams, mandapam, pandals, pankhaas, flower garlands, flowering creepers, banana trees, betel nut trees, and decorations of all kinds.

A huge area of 10,000 yojanas was enclosed with high walls. At the center was a beautiful wedding mandapam made of purest gold. Rose water mixed with sandal paste and kasthoori was sprinkled there.

Many statues were set in good spots decorating the place. A throne studded with the sparkling blue sapphires was set for the couple to sit upon.

1. ( # 8 b ). திருமணச் செய்தி.

அமராவதியாக மாறிவிட்ட இமயத்தை
இமவான் கண்டு மனம் மகிழ்ந்தான்.

நான்முகன், திருமால், தேவர்களை
அன்பு மனைவியுடன் வருகை தருமாறு

செய்தி விடுத்தான் எல்லோருக்கும்.
செய்தி அறிந்து வந்து குவிந்தனர்!

மந்தரம், மேரு போன்ற மலைகளும்,
திக்கஜங்கள், நாகர்கள், கடல்கள் என்று.

அலைமகளும், கலைமகளும் வணங்கி, பின்
மலைமகளைச் செய்தனர் அரிய மணமகளாக.

மலை அரசன் அடைந்தான் திருக்கயிலை;
மலைமகளை மணம் புரிய ஈசனை அழைக்க,

"கணங்களுடன் கணப் பொழுதில் வருவேன்!
சுணங்காமல் செல்லுவீர் நீவிர் முன்னே!"

இறைவன் ஆணைப்படியே மலை அரசனும்
விரைந்து திரும்பினான் மணமண்டபத்துக்கு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன் விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
1 (# 8 B) THE WEDDING INVITE.

Himavaan was pleased to note that now Himalayas competed with Amaravathy in it beauty and splendor.

He sent out wedding invites to Brahman, Vishnu and all the other Devas. Whosoever was invited turned up for the wedding. Mountains like Meru, Manadra giri, the dig gajas, naagars, oceans were all present there.

Lakshmi Devi and Saraswathi Devi arrived with their lords and decorated Uma as a lovely bride.

Himavaan went to Kailash with his retinue and invited Siva to marry Uma at the auspicious hour.

Siva told him, 'I will come with my Siva ganas. You may please return first"

Himavaan went back with his group of persons.
