#22b. கிருதவீர்யன்

தாளிடப் பட்டிருந்தது வாயிற் கதவு - முதல்
நாளிலிருந்தே முழுப் பட்டினி தான் மகன்.

களைத்துச் சுருண்டிருப்பான் என நினைத்து,
அழைத்து மும்முறை தட்டினான் கதவை.

மனம் கலங்கினான் மகன் எழுந்து வராததால்;
மனம் உடைந்தான் அவன் இறந்ததைக் கண்டு!

இரவு முழுவதும் அவன் கதறி அழுததால்,
பிரிந்தது அவன் ஆவி விடியற்காலையில்!

அன்றைய தினம் சங்கடஹர சதுர்த்தி ஆம்.
அன்ன ஆகாரம் இன்றி உயிர் துறந்ததால்

விண்ணுலகிலிருந்து வந்தது ஒரு விமானம்.
விண்ணுலகேகினான் அதில் அமர்ந்த மகன்.

பிராமணர்களைக் கொன்றுவிட்ட தோஷம்
பிரம்மஹத்தியாக வந்து பீடித்தது சாம்பனை.

மும்முறை "கணேசா!" என்று அழைத்ததால்
மன்னனாகப் பிறந்துள்ளான் இப்பிறவியில்.

பிரம்மஹத்தி நீங்கும் வரை கிடைக்காது
இம்மையில் மக்கட்செல்வம் அவனுக்கு!"

"பிரம்மஹத்தி நீங்கிட வழி கூறுவீர்!"என
பிரமனை வேண்டினார் மன்னனின் தந்தை.

"சங்கடஹர சதுர்த்தி விரதம் ஒன்றே
சங்கடங்களை நீங்கும் முற்றிலுமாக.

மாசி மாதம் அமர பட்ச செவ்வாய் அன்று
பூசித்துத் தொடங்கவேண்டும் கணபதியை.

மந்திரங்கள் ஜபிக்க வேண்டும் நீராடிவிட்டு.
சந்திரோதயத்தில் செய்ய வேண்டும் பூஜை!

அந்தணர்களுக்கு அன்னமிட்டு ஆராதித்து,
கண்விழித்துக் கேட்பீர் கணபதி கதைகளை!

இடைவிடாது ஓராண்டு செய்தால் விரதம்
தடையின்றித் தரும் நல்ல சந்ததிகளை.

வன்னி மரத்தடியில் இதை அனுஷ்டித்தால்
சின்னச் சின்னக் குறைகள் கூட நீங்கிவிடும்!"

#22b. Kruthaveeryan

The door was locked and his son Ganesan had been starving from the previous day. Saamban though he must be too tired to open the door. He called out his name thrice and knocked the door.

He entered the house through the back door. He was shocked beyond words to find the dead body of his son. He was heart broken and cried throughout the night. The next day morning he too died.

A vimaanam came from the heaven. It was a sankatahara chathurthi day. Since the boy Ganesan had not eaten any food and died on that auspicious day he was taken to the heaven in the vimaanam

Saamban had killed the brahmins. It afflicted him as Brahmahaththi dosham. So he could not get into the vimaanam. But since he called out the name of Ganesan thrice on that day, he is born as a king in this birth. Unless and until the brahmahaththi dosham is removed he can not have any children"

Brahma completed his long speech. Kruthaveeryan's father asked Brahma, "Please tell me how he can get rid of the brahmahaththi dosham oh sire!"

Brahma replied, "Sankatahara chathurthi vratham can absolve him of this grave sin. He will have to start the vratham in the month of Masi in the amarapaksham on Tuesday with a puja to Ganapathy. Everyday he must take bath and do japam. The puja must be done when the moon rises.

Brahmins must be offered feasts and honored. During the night he will have to remain awake and listen to the glorious stories of Ganapathy. If this vratham is continued for one full year without any interruptions, your son will be blessed with good natured children. If this vrtham is observed under a Vanni tree, even the smallest defects will be got rid of"

Brahma advised the king Kruthaveeryan's father thus.
 
#22c. செவ்வாய் சதுர்த்தி

"செவ்வாய்க் கிழமைகளில் வரும் சதுர்த்தியை
செம்மையானதாகக் கருதுவது ஏன் சுவாமி?"

கிருதவீர்ய மன்னனின் தந்தை கேட்டார்,
அருமையான இக்கேள்வியை பிரமனிடம்!

"நர்மதை நதி தீரத்தில் வசித்து வந்தார்
பரத்துவாஜ முனிவர் என்னும் மகரிஷி.

நதிக்கரைக்கு நீராடச் சென்றார் ஒருநாள்.
அதிசயமான அழகியைக் கண்டார் அங்கே.

சேடிகள் புடை சூழ வந்த அழகிய பெண்ணின்
மேனியைக் கண்டதும் வெளிப்பட்டது தேஜஸ்.

மோக்ஷத்தைக் கெடுக்கும் இது என்று எண்ணி
மோஹத்துக்குக் கடிவாளம் இட்டுச் சென்றார்.

வெளிப்பட்ட தேஜஸ் விழுந்தது பூமியில்!
வெளிப்பட்டது அதனின்று ஓர் ஆண்மகவு!

வாரி அணைத்தாள் அவனை பூமி அன்னை;
பேரிட்டு வளர்த்தாள் அங்காரகன் என்று.

வளர்ந்த பின்னர் கேட்டான் அங்காரகன்,
"உளபடிக் கூறுங்கள் என் தந்தையார் யார்?"

"முனிவர் பரத்துவாஜரே உன் தந்தையார்.
இனிய அழகியிடம் பறிகொடுத்தார் மனதை.

அப்போது தோன்றினாய் நீ அவரிடமிருந்து
இப்போது செல்வோம் அவர் ஆசிரமத்திற்கு!"

முனிவரை விழுந்து வணங்கினான் சிறுவன்;
கனிவுடன் கூறினாள் முனியிடம் பூமித்தாய்,

"தங்கள் வீரியத்தில் தோன்றிய மகனைத்
தங்களிடமே அழைத்து வந்துள்ளேன் ஐயா!

என்கடமை முடிந்து விட்டது இன்றோடு
அங்காரகன் இனி உம் பொறுப்பு!" என்றாள்.

பரவசம் அடைந்தார் முனிவர் பரத்துவாஜர்.
இருகைகளால் வாரியணைத்தார் சிறுவனை!

உபநயனம் செய்வித்தார் - மந்திரங்களை
உபதேசம் செய்தார், த்யானம் கற்பித்தார்.

#22c. Chathurthi on Tuesdays

"Why do we consider the chathuri falling on a Tuesday as very auspicious?" King Kruthaveeryan's father asked Brahma Devan. Brahma came up with the story of Angaarakan.

Bharatwaaj was a rushi living in the banks of river Narmada. One day he saw a very beautiful girl surrounded by her friends near the river. He was overcome by love at first sight. His tejas dropped on the earth even as he looked at her.

He remembered that Moham would destroy Moksham. So he walked off without a second look at the girl. The tejas which fell on the earth became a male child. Mother Earth took pity on the child and brought him up well. She named him as Angaarakan.

One day Angaarakan asked her, "Mother please tell me who is my father" Mother Earth told him how he was born even as his father Rushi Bharatwaaj felt infatuated by a rare beauty seen near the river Narmada.

She told the boy,"I will take you to your father now." They both went to the aashram of sage Bharatwaaj. Mother Earth told the rushi, "Sir here is your son Angaaragan, who was born of your tejas which fell on the earth. I have brought him up well. From now on he is your responsibility. "

Bharatwaaj was overwhelmed to see his son. He embraced the boy with both hands. He performed upanayanam for the boy. He taught him mantras and dhyaanam.

 
#22d. அங்காரகன்

ஆனைமுகனிடம் அதிக பக்தி கொண்டான்;
ஆனைமுகனின் அருள்பெற விழைந்தான்.

அனுமதி பெற்றான் அங்காரகன் தந்தையிடம்;
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் அரும் தவம் செய்தான்.

வேழமுகன் தந்தார் தரிசனம் அவனுக்கு!
"வேண்டிய வரம் யாது?" என்றார் அவனிடம்!

"உண்மை பக்தி நிலைக்க வேண்டும்;
உண்ண வேண்டும் தேவருடன் அமுது!"

"நவகிரகங்களில் ஒன்றாக அமைவாய்!
மங்களன் என்ற பெயரையும் பெறுவாய்."

மங்களவாரம் என்னும் செவ்வாயன்று.
ஐங்கரன் தந்தார் தன் அரிய தரிசனம்!

செவ்வாய் சதுர்த்தி சிறப்புப் பெற்றது.
செவ்வாய் சதுர்த்தி சங்கட சதுர்த்தி.

ஆலயம் எடுத்தான் அன்புடன் அங்கே,
ஆனைமுகத் தேவனுக்கு அங்காரகன்.

ஆராதனைகள் செய்து அருள் பெற்று
ஆனான் நவகிரகங்களில் ஒருவனாக!

அங்காரகன் ஆராதித்த விநாயகர் தான்
மங்களகரமான சிந்தாமணி விநாயகர்!

தேவர்களும் ஆராதித்து நலம் பெற்றனர்,
மனிதர்களும் ஆராதித்து நலம்பெற்றனர்.

#22d. Angaarakan

Angaarakan was a great bhakta of Vinayaka. He wished to get his blessings. He took his father's permission and went to do penance. He meditated on Vinayaka for one thousand long years.

Vinayaka appeared to him and asked him what was his aim in doing the penance. Angaarakan replied, " Give me true bhakti towards you. I also wish to share the nectar with the Deva"

Vinayaka blessed him and said,"You will become one of the nava grahas. You will share the nectar with the Deva. You will be known by the name Managalan henceforth!"

Vinayaka gave his dharshan on a Tuesday. So all the chathurtis falling on a Tuesday are considered more auspicious.

Angaarakan was very happy with these boons. He built a temple for Vigneswar. He did aaraadhana and became one of the nine planets.

The Vinayaka worshiped by him is called the Chintaamani Vinayakar. The deva as well as the humans worshiped this Vinayaka and got their prayers answered.
 
# 22 e . சந்திரன்

பிரமனிடம் கேட்டார் மன்னனின் தந்தை,
"விரதம் சந்திரோதயத்தில் செய்வது ஏன்?"

"நாரதர் பெறுமானைக் காண வந்தபோது
நானும் கயிலையில் இருந்தேன் அன்று!

ஒரு கனியை ஈசனிடம் தந்தார் நாரதர்
"ஒரு கனியை இருவருக்குத் தருவதா?

யாருக்குத் தருவது இந்தக் கனியை?"
"முருகனுக்கே கனி!" என்றேன் நான்.

"மூத்தவன் நான் இருக்க அவனுக்கா?"
மூக்கின்மேல் கோபம் வந்து விட்டது!

கலங்கி நின்றேன் கணபதி சினத்தால்
விளங்கவில்லை என்ன செய்வது என!

அவையில் இருந்த சந்திரன் நகைத்தான்;
அவன் மீது கோபம் பாய்ந்தது இப்போது!

"குறைத்தாய் என் பெருமையை நகைத்து!
குறையும் உன் தண்ணொளி இன்று முதல்!

அடைவர் துன்பம் உன்னைக் காண்பவர்!"
மடை திறந்து சாபங்கள் வெளிப்பட்டன.

ஒளி இழந்து மங்கி விட்டான் சந்திரன்;
ஒளிந்து கொண்டான் தன் இடத்திலேயே.

"சந்திரன் இன்றேல் அமுதம் எங்ஙனம்?"
இந்திரனிடம் முறையிட்டனர் தேவர்கள்.

அபச்சாரம் செய்தான் சந்திரன் அன்று.
அதனால் அடைந்தான் கடும் சாபத்தை!

கணநாதர் அளித்த சாபத்தை மாற்றிட
கணநாதரால் மட்டுமே முடியும் எனவே

சரண் அடைவாய் அண்ணலிடம் சென்று
சந்திரன் சாபத்தை நீக்குவார்விநாயகர்!"

#22 e. Chandran

The king Kritaveeryan's father asked Brahma,"Why do people perform the chathurti vratham when the moon rises?"Brahma related another incident.

Once when I was in Kailash, Narada came there with a ripe mango. He gave it to Siva to be given to his sons. But how to share one mango among two sons?

I suggested that the fruit be given to Murugan who was younger of the two. But Vinayaka became very angry with this suggestion. "I am the elder son. How can the younger get it in staad of me?"

I got disturbed by his anger and did not know what to do. Seeing my plight the Moon laughed out loud. Now Vinayaka's anger was directed towards the Moon.

"You have laughed at me in the sabha degrading me. Your glow will get reduced everyday from now on! If anyone sees you, he will suffer many mishaps."

The moon lost his moonlight and hid himself in shame. Without the beams of the moon, nectar could not be produced. The Deva sought Indra's help to resolve this matter.

Indra told them that the curse laid by Ganesh could be removed only by him. He advised the Deva to go and surrender to lord Ganesh and seek his mercy.

#22 f. சந்திரன்

தேவர்கள் சென்றனர் கணபதியை நாடி;
தேவர்கள் பணிந்தனர் இனிய துதி பாடி.

"அபச்சாரம் செய்தான் சந்திரன் நகைத்து!
அவமானம் அடைந்தான் ஒளியை இழந்து!

அமிர்தம் சுரக்கத் தேவை நிலவொளி!
புவனம் செழிக்கத் தேவை நிலவொளி!

இரண்டுமே நின்று போய் விட்டன இன்று!
இரங்கவேண்டும் உள்ளம் தயை கூர்ந்து!

தவறு செய்தவன் ஒருவனனே எனில்
தண்டனை அடைந்தவர் எத்தனை பேர்?

தண்டனை வேண்டும் தவறுக்கு - அதைக்
கண்டனத்துடனும் நிறைவேற்றலாமே?"

கழிவிரக்கம் கொண்டார் வேழமுகநாதன்.
இழிவினை அகற்றிவிட மனம் கனிந்தார்.

"ஆவணி பூர்வபக்ஷ சதுர்த்தி நிலவே
அளிக்கும் இன்னல் நோக்குபவர்க்கு!"

சந்திரனிடம் சென்றது தேவர் குழு.
மந்திர மகிமையை அறிவுறுத்தியது.

கங்கா சர்வசித்தி நகரம் சென்றான்
அங்கு இருபது இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள்

தடங்கல் இன்றி அவன் ஜெபித்தான்;
இடர் நீங்கிடவும், ஒளி மீண்டிடவும்.

தோன்றினார் அவன் முன் கணநாதன்.
போற்றினான், புகழ்ந்தான், அழுதான்;

"அறியாது செய்த பிழை பொறுப்பீர்!
அளிப்பீர் முன்பு இருந்த பிரகாசம்!"

#22f. Chandran

The Deva went to Ganapathy. They sang his praise in words sweeter than honey.

"Moon did commit a crime and deserves to be punished. Now he has lost his glory and gone into hiding. Chandrika, the moon light is essential for producing nectar. The plants and trees also it for growing well.

Now these two have come to a grinding halt. You must pardon him and reduce the severity on the punishment given to him. He is the one who committed the crime but all of us suffer due to the curse."

Vinayaka took pity and reduced the severity of the curse. "The chathurti moon in the poorva paksham of the month Aavanai will cause problems to those who see it." The Deva went straight to the Moon and told him the greatness of the Vinayaka mantra.

Moon went to the Ganga sarva siddhdhi and did penance for twenty two years. Lord Vignesh appeared to him. Moon praised him and begged him,"Please pardon my thoughtless action. Please restore my original glory!"
 
#22g. பாலசந்திர வினாயகர்

"அன்றே அளித்தேன் சாப விமோசனம்;
இன்று அளிப்பேன் இனியதொரு வரம்!

சங்கட சதுர்த்தியில் என்னைத் தொழுபவர்
சந்திர உதயத்தில் உன்னையும் தொழுவர்.

என்னை வாங்குபவர் உன்னையும் வணங்க
உன் ஒரு கலையை அணிவேன் முடியில்!"

சந்திரன் மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு எல்லையே இல்லை;
சந்திரனின் ஒளி முன்னிலும் ஜொலித்தது!

ஆலயம் எடுத்தான் அன்புடன் அவன்
ஆனைமுக நாதனுக்கு அதே இடத்தில்.

பாலசந்திர விநாயகரை அமைத்துப்
பல சித்திகள் பெற்றான் ஆராதித்து.

சந்திரனைச் சூழ்ந்தன பல துன்பங்கள்!
சந்திரனின் துன்பங்கள் விலகின காண்!"

விவரங்களை எடுத்து உரைத்தான் பிரமன்.
விரும்பிக் கேட்ட மன்னனின் தந்தை

ஐயம் ஒன்றை எழுப்பினார் மீண்டும்,
"வையத்தில் புல்லுக்கு மகிமை ஏன்?"

#22G. Baalachandra Vinaayakar

Lord Ganesha told the Moon,"I have given you saapa vimochanam long back Today I will give you more boons! Whoever worships me in the Sankata chathurti will worship you as you rise in the sky. To make sure that whoever worships me worship you also, I will wear your chandrakalai on my head henceforth"

The joy of Chandran knew no bounds. His brilliance was even more than what it was before. He built a temple for Vinayaka there. He established Balachandra Vinayaka there. Moon did aaraadhanaa and got many siddhis.

Moon was surrounded by problems and later they all vanished by the grace of lord Ganesha"

Brahma told this to the King's father who asked one more doubt now, "Why is the grass considered so auspicious for Ganesha puja?"
 
#23a . மூவர் இட்ட சாபம்

சுலபன் அரசாண்டான் அவந்தி நகரை.
சுபத்திரை சுலபனின் அருமை மனைவி.

நீதி நெறி வழுவாத அரசன் சுலபனிடம்
நிதி உதவி கேட்டு வந்தான் ஓர் அந்தணன்.

உடல் மெலிந்து வாடி இருந்தான் அந்தணன்.
உடைகளும் நலிந்து கந்தல் ஆகியிருந்தன.

பரிவு தோன்றவில்லை அந்த அந்தணனிடம்.
பரிகாசம் செய்து நகைத்தான் அரசன் சுலபன்.

நகைப்பொலி கேட்டது சீறி எழுந்தான்,
நாகம் போலவே அந்தணன் மதுசூதனன்.

"செல்வச் செருக்கால் சிரித்தாய் மன்னா நீ!
இல்லாதவரைக் கண்டு இப்படி நகைப்பதா?

பல் இளிக்கும் பசுவின் வாலை முகர்ந்த எருது!
பல் இளித்த நீயும் ஒரு எருதாகக் கடவாய்!"

சுலபன் பெற்ற சாபத்தினால் வெகுண்டாள்
சுபத்திரை என்னும் கற்புடைய அவன் அரசி.

"அந்தணனாகப் பிறந்தவனுக்கு கோபமா?
அரசன் சிரித்ததற்கு கொடிய சாபமா?

கழுதையைப் போல நடந்துகொண்டாய் நீ!
கழுதையாக மாறிச் சுமப்பாய் மூட்டைகளை!"

அரசியின் சாபம் வெறுப்பேற்றியது மேலும்,
அரசன் சிரிப்பினால் சினந்த மதுசூதனனை!

"குற்றம் புரிந்தவன் அரசன் உன் கணவன்;
குற்றவாளி ஆக்குகிறாய் ஏழை அந்தணனை!

சாபத்திற்கு எதிர் சாபம் தந்த நீயும் ஒரு
சண்டாளப் பெண்ணாக மாறக் கடவது!"

காலம் செய்த கோலத்தினால் பல சாபங்கள்!
காலம் கடக்கும் முன்பே உருவ மாற்றங்கள் !!

எருதாக மாறிய அரசன் சுலபன் சென்றான்
உழுது பயிர் செய்யும் ஒருவனின் வீட்டுக்கு.

மதுசூதனன் மாறினான் ஒரு கழுதையாக.
விதிப்படி அடைந்தான் வண்ணான் வீட்டை.

சேரியை அடைந்தாள் சண்டாளப் பெண்ணாக
மாறிவிட்ட அரசி சுபத்திரை அந்தக் கணமே.

# 23a. The exchange of curses

King Sulabhan ruled over Avanthi. His wife was Subhadra. One day a poor Brahmin came to the king asking for money. The Brahmin was named Madhusoodanan. He looked famished and thin. His clothes were nearly rags. In stead of pitying the Brahmin, the king laughed out loudly.

Madhusoodanan became wild when the king laughed at his poverty. "What kind of a king are you anyway? Laughing at a poor man since you are so rich. The bull which smells the hind quarters of a cow shows all its teeth. You did the same thing now. May you become a bull and serve a farmer ploughing his field. "

The queen got angry now! She spoke to Madhusoodanan," In spite of Being a Brahmin you have become so angry. You have cursed the king just because he laughed at you. You have behaved irresponsibly like a donkey. May you become a donkey and serve well a washer-man."

Madhusoodanan was already fuming with anger at the king's behavior. The queen's curse added fuel to the fire. He told her,"The king your husband is the culprit here. But you try to project me as a culprit. You have cast a counter-curse for my curse. May you become an untouchable chandaala sthree and live in the slums."

The time was not right for those three people. Curses and counter-curses were freely exchanged. Their appearnce changed immediately. The king became a bull and went to the house of a farmer. The Brahmin became a donkey and went to the house of a washer-man. The queen became an untouchable chandaala sthree and went to live in the slum.


 
#23b . மூவர் இட்ட சாபம்

ஏரிலிருந்து அவிழ்த்து விட்டதும் எருது
சேர்ந்தது ஒரு வயற்காட்டை மேய்ந்தபடி.

அழுக்கு மூட்டைகளை இறக்கிய பின்னர்
கழுதையும் வந்தது அதே வயற்காட்டுக்கு.

சேரிப் பெண்ணாக மாறிய சுபத்திரையும்
சேர்ந்தாள் புல் அறுக்க அதே வயற்காட்டை.

மூவரும் ஒன்று சேர்ந்தனர் ஒரே இடத்தில்!
மூவருக்கும் நினைவில்லை நடந்தவை!

மேகம் சூழ்ந்தது, மின்னல் வெட்டியது.
சோவென கன மழை பொழியலானது!

மழைக்கு ஒதுங்க இடம் தேடினார்கள்.
வேழமுகத்தோன் ஆலயம் தென்பட்டது.

ஓடிச் சென்றனர் மூவரும் ஆலயத்துக்கு.
ஓரமாக ஒதுங்கினர் வெளிப் பிரகாரத்தில்.

இரவு நேரம் வந்த பின்னரும் சற்றும்
குறையவே இல்லை மழையின் வேகம்!

புல்லைக் கண்டதும் கழுதைக்குப் பசி.
மெல்ல அதை இழுத்து உண்ணலாயிற்று .

கழுதையைத் தடியால் அவள் அடித்ததும்,
கழுதை மிரண்டு உதைத்தது எருதை.

கழுதையை எருது முட்டித் தள்ளவும்,
கழுதை மோதியது சுபத்திரையின் மீது.

மூவரும் செய்த கலவரத்தைக் கண்டு
முனிவர்கள் விரட்டினர் அங்கிருந்து!

குறையவில்லை கனமழை சிறிதும்;
உறைந்தது உடல் அக்குளிர் காற்றில்!

புல்லுக் கட்டை இழுத்தன பிராணிகள்;
புல்லுக் கட்டு விழுந்தது சன்னதி முன்பு.

பறந்து சென்றன மூன்று பசும் புற்கள்!
இறைவன் சிலை மீது சென்று விழுந்தன.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
#23b. The exchange of curses

One fine day the bull who had been the king was released from the yoke. He reached a field grazing the grass. The donkey was left loose after he delivered the bundles of dirty clothes in the river bank. He too reached the same field. The chandaala sthree also reached the field to cut green grass. The three main characters of this story were in the same place but did not remember the happenings of the past.

Suddenly rain clouds moved in and it started pouring heavily. There was no place to take shelter from the rain save the temple of Vinayaka seen at a distance.

All three ran fast and took shelter in the outer praakaara of the temple. The rain slashed nonstop throughout the night. The donkey felt hungry. It started pulling the bundle of grass from the woman. She became angry and hit the donkey with her stick. The donkey got frightened and kicked hard the bull. The bull knocked the donkey on Subadra and there was a lot of confusions and noise.

The pujaris of the temple got angry and tried to chase them away from the temple premises. The wind was chill and the rain continuous. Both the animals tried to eat the grass now. They pulled it in opposite directions and the bundle fell in front of the sannidhi. Out of the bundle three blades of grass flew and fell on the vigraham in the temple.
 
#23c. அறுகம் புல்

புல்லுக் கட்டிலிருந்து பறந்து வந்த
புல் விழுந்தது இறைவன் முடியில்.

எருதின் வாயிலிருந்து பறந்த புல்
இறைவன் தும்பிக்கை மேல் விழ,

கழுதை வாயிலிருந்து வந்த புல்
அழகிய திருவடி மீது சென்று விழ,

"சண்டாளப் பெண் தொட்ட புற்கள்
கண் கண்ட தெய்வத்தின் மீதா?"

மூவரையும் வெளியே விரட்டினர்;
மீண்டும் பூஜைகளைச் செய்தனர்.

இரவு முழுதும் பெய்த கனமழை
இரவி உதிக்கையில் ஓய்ந்தது.

குளிரில் விறைத்து இறந்தனர்
கோவிலில் இருந்த மூவரும்.

விமானங்கள் வந்து இறங்கின;
விநாயக கணங்களும் வந்தனர்.

மூவரும் ஏறினர் விமானங்களில்;
முனிவர்கள் திகைத்து நின்றனர்.

கணங்களைக் கேட்டனர் முனிவர்,
"கணபதி அருள் கிடைத்தது எப்படி?"

"அறுகம் புல்லால் பூசித்தனர் ஐயனை
அரிய பதவி அளித்தான் ஐங்கரன்."

"பறந்து சென்ற அறுகம் புற்களால்
பரமன் அருள் கிடைத்ததா கூறும்!

அறுகம் புல்லால் ஐயனைப் பூஜித்தால்
அடையும் பயன்கள் யாவை கூறுவீர்."

முனிவர்கள் கேட்டனர் கணங்களிடம்;
மகிமையைக் கூறலாயினர் கணங்கள்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன் விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

 
# 23c. The grass

Three blades of grass flew in the air and fell on the vigraham of the deity. The grass from the bundle fell on God's head. The grass from the mouth of the bull fell on God's trunk. The grass from the mouth of the donkey fell on God's feet.

The pujaris became wild with anger that the grass touched by the chandaala sthree had defiled God's vigraha. They drove the three pests out of the temple premises and did purification followed by puja.

The rain slashed throughout the night. It stopped early the next morning as the sun rose. The three pests were found frozen to death outside the temple. Lo and behold there came down three vimaanaas from the sky.

The vinayaka ganas accompanied the vimaanaas. The souls of the three dead occupied the vimaanaas and the pujaris stood speechless. They gathered enough courage and asked the ganas. "Why are these lowly creatures taken to the heaven?'

The ganas replied, "They worshiped Ganesha with the green grass. So they get a special place in his world."

"If the grass flying in the air can deliver them from their bondage, what will be the effect of the puja done with the green grass as prescribed? The pujaris asked and the ganas began to explain.

 
#23d. அனலாசுரன்

தாபரம் நகரின் தென்பக்கத் தோப்பில்
தவமுனிவர் கௌண்டின்யர் வசித்தார்.

ஆசிரியை முனிபுங்கவரின் மனைவி.
பூசிப்பர் ஐங்கரனை நேசத்துடன் இவர்.

அனுதினம் அறுகம் புற்கள் கொணர்ந்து
அர்ச்சிப்பர் பதினாயிரம் அறுகுகளால்!

"மலர்கள் வித விதமாகக் கிடைக்கையில்
மணமில்லாத புற்களால் பூசிப்பது ஏன் ?"

ஆசிரியை கேட்டார் ஐயத்தை அவரிடம்;
நேசிக்கும் மனைவிக்கு கூறினார் முனிவர்.

"தேன் பருகும் வண்டாகச் சுவைத்தான்
தேவமாதரின் நடனத்தை யமன் அன்று.

நழுவியது திலோத்தமையின் மேலாடை.
நகர்ந்து சென்றுவிட்டாள் நாணத்துடன்.

விழுந்த மேலாடை தூண்டியது விரகத்தை
எழுந்து விரைந்தான் அந்தப் புரத்துக்கு.

அதிக விரகத்தால் வெளிப்பட்டது தேஜஸ்
அதனின்றும் தோன்றினான் அனலாசுரன்.

நடுங்கினர் தேவர்கள் அசுரனைக் கண்டு
நான்கு புறங்களிலும் ஓடி ஒளிந்தனர்.

அரக்கனைக் காண விரும்பாத யமன்
அடைக்கலம் புகுந்தான் அந்தப்புரத்தில்!

அனலாசுரன் அடைந்தான் மிகச் செருக்கு.
அடித்துத் துன்புறுத்தினான் தேவர்களை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
#23d. Analaasuran

Koundinya and his wife Aasiriyai lived in a palm grove in the southern side of the Taaparam city. They both were devotees of Vinayaka. They would gather fresh green grass and select ten thousand tiny branches for the daily archanai of Vinayaka.

Aasiriyai wondered why the green grass which had no fragrance was preferred over the colorful and fragrant flowers. Koundinya told her this incident to explain the greatness of the green grass over the fragrant flowers.

Yamadharman was watching the divine dance by the celestial nymphs. During the dance, the upper garment of Thilothama came off loose. She felt shy and left the place quickly.

But Yama was badly aroused by the sight of her beauty. He too got up and rushed to his anthappuram. But before he could reach it, his tejas had emerged. From it emerged a son named Analaasuran.

He was terrifying to look at and ferocious in his behavior. All the Deva ran away at his sight and hid themselves. Yama himself did not want to set his eyes up on his son. He locked himself up in his anthappuram.

This made Analaasuran more haughty and arrogant. He started harassing and troubling the Devas in various ways.

 
#23e. அனலாசுரன்

இந்திரனை நாடி ஓடினர் தேவர்கள்;
இந்திரன் நாடினான் பிரமதேவனை;

நாரணனை நாடினார் பிரம தேவர்
நாரணன் கூறினார் தேவர்களிடம்,

"அனலாசுரனை அழிக்க வல்லவர்
ஆனைமுகன் ஒருவனே என்றறிவீர்.

ஐங்கரனை பணிந்தால் அவன் உமது
சங்கடங்களைத் தீர்ப்பான் விரைந்து!"

நாரணன் கூறியபடியே தேவர் குழாம்
நாடிச் சென்றது வேழமுக வேந்தனை.

கருத்தினை அறிந்து கொண்டார் அவர்.
உருவெடுத்தார் ஒரு பிரம்மச்சாரியாக.

ஆதிப் பரம்பொருளே அந்த பிரம்மச்சாரி
அறிந்து கொண்டு வணங்கினர் தேவர்கள்.

சங்கடங்களைக் கூறினர் விநாயகரிடம்.
ஐங்கரன் அளித்தான் உடனே அபயம்.

தேவர்களைத் தேடிவந்த அனலாசுரன்
தேவர்குழுவைக் கண்டு கொக்கரித்தான்.

"சிரமம் இல்லது செய்துவிட்டீர் நீவீர்
ஒரே இடத்தில் குழுமியதன் மூலம்!"

அஞ்சிய தேவர்கள் தஞ்சம் புகுந்தனர்
மிஞ்சிய தெய்வம் இல்லாத விநாயகரை!

நெருங்கிய அசுரனை வாரி வளைத்தார்,
நொடியில் அனலனை விழுங்கி விட்டார்.

"நீ காணவேண்டிய உலகங்கள் இன்னும்
நிறைய உள்ளன என் வயிற்றுக்குள்!"

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

 
#23e. Analaasuran

Whenever in trouble, the Deva seek Indra's help; Indra seeks Brahma's help and Brahma seeks Vishnu's help.

Vishnu told the gathering, "Only Vinayaka can put an end to Analaasuran. Go and pray for his grace!"

The Deva went to Ganapathy who knew their innermost thoughts and transformed himself to a young attractive brahmachari.

The Deva knew that it was none other than Lord Ganesha. They told him of their suffering and sought his help in putting and end to Analaasuran.

Ganesha gave them abhayam immediately. Meanwhile Analasuran went in search of the missing Deva. He was happy to find them all with the young brahmachari.

He chuckled to himself and said,"You have made my job much easier by assembling in one place". He approached them menacingly. The Deva hid behind Ganesha. As Analaasuran came nearer Ganesha grabbed him and swallowed him whole.

He told the ausran "There are many worlds in my stomach which you have not seen yet. Have a glimpse now!"

 
#23f. அறுகம்புல்

பெயருக்கு ஏற்றபடி தொழில் செய்தான்
வயிற்றில் விழுந்த கொடிய அனலாசுரன்!

வெப்பத்தைப் பெருக்கினான் உதரத்தில்.
வெப்பம் தகித்தது அண்ட சராசரங்களை!

விஷ்ணு, பிரமன், இந்திரன், தேவர்கள்
விதவிதமான உபாயங்கள் செய்தனர்.

வியர்த்தமாகின அத்தனை முயற்சிகளும்;
விநாயகரின் வெப்பம் தணியவே இல்லை!

கொட்டினர் பன்னீரைக் குடம் குடமாக!
கெட்டிச் சந்தனத்தை பூசினர் உடலில்.

தெளித்தனர் அமுதத்தைத் திருமேனியில்.
குளிர்ந்த நீரைக் கொணர்ந்து சொரிந்தனர்.

தாமரை மலர்களால் ஒற்றி எடுத்தனர்.
தாமரைக் கண்ணனின் படுக்கையாகிய

ஆதிசேஷனும் முயன்று தோற்றான் - தன்
அதீதக் குளிர்ச்சியால் வெப்பத்தை நீக்கிட.

வந்தனர் எண்பத்து எட்டாயிரம் முனிவர்;
தந்தனர் தலா இருபத்தொரு அறுகினை!

உச்சந்தலை முதல் உள்ளங்கால் வரை
உலவிய வெப்பம் சென்றது எங்கோ!

"எழ்மையிலும் இருக்கலாம் சிறப்பு!" என
வேழமுகன் அறிவுறுத்தினான் உலகுக்கு!

"அறுகம் புல் நீக்கியது ஆறாத வெப்பத்தை!
அறுகம் புல் இல்லாத பூஜை இனி வேண்டாம்!

மலர்களிலும் உயரியது அறுகம் புல் ஆகும்;
பலநூறு வேண்டாம்! இருபத்தொன்று போதும்."

தேவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு அளவே இல்லை!
யாவரும் சேர்ந்து ஓர் ஆலயம் எழுப்பினர்.

பாலச்சந்திர விநாயகனை அமைத்தனர்;
பல ஆராதனைகள் செய்து மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

அறுகம் புல்லெனக் கருத வேண்டாம் நீ !
அறிவாய் இறைவனுக்கு உகந்தததுவே !"

ஆசிரியைக்குக் கூறினார் கௌண்டின்யர்
ஆனைமுகனின் மற்றோருவிருத்தாந்ததை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி
