KANDA PURANAM - DAKSHA KANDAM

18c. தேவியின் சீற்றம்!

உமையின் சினம் எல்லை மீறிவிட்டது!
இமைப் பொழுதில் நடுங்கின அனைத்தும்.

நீரும், நெருப்பும், முகிலும் நடுங்கின;
மாலும், பிரமனும் யாவரும் நடுங்கினர்;

தேற்றினாள் தேவியைத் தோழி விமலை;
சாற்றினாள் தேவி தந்தை தக்கனிடம்,

“என்னை இகழ்வது ஒரு பொருட்டல்ல!
என் தலைவனையும் இகழ்ந்தாய் நீ!

குறைகளுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவர் அவர்
மறைகள் புகழ்கின்ற நாயகர் அவர்.

'சிவா' எனும் ஒரு சொல்லே தரும் முக்தி
வாசியுடன் வெறுக்கும் உன் கதி என்ன?

பொறுக்கும் வரை பொறுப்பார் அவர்!
ஒறுக்கும் வேளை வந்தாள் ஒறுப்பார்”

கயிலை மீண்டாள் தாட்சாயணி தேவி
கயிலை நாதன் கூறியது மெய்யானது!

வேதனையுடன் அன்னை கூறினாள்
நாதனிடம்,”வேள்வியை அழியுங்கள்!”

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி

6#18c. Devi’s reply.

Dakshayani’s anger knew no bounds. In a moment everything started trembling in utter fear.

The water bodies shook; the flames of the fie shook; the clouds shook; Vishnu trembled. Brahma trembled; Vimala, devi’s friend, tried to console Daakshaayani.

Devi spoke to Dakshan with seething anger,”You insulted me but I do not mind it. I will ever allow you to insult my dear swami. He is pure and flawless. All the Vedas praise him sing his glory.

The very word Siva gives mukti to his devotees. He will tolerate all your misdeeds. But when the time comes to punish, he will punish certainly. Now no one can save you!”

She returned to Kailash hurt and angry. Siva’s prediction that she would be insulted had come true!

She went straight to Siva and told him, Please destroy the yaagaa!!”

29. சக்கர ராஜன்

துஷ்டர்கள் சாது ஜனங்களுக்கு நானாவிதக்
கஷ்டங்கள் தந்தனர் முன்பொரு சமயம்.

அசுரர்கள் தபஸ்விக்களின் கர்மங்களைப்
பிசுபிசுக்கச் செய்து துன்புறுத்தி வந்தனர்.

முனிவர்கள் குழுமினர் சேஷாச்சலத்தில்;
கனிவுடன் காட்சி தந்தார் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.

துயரப் பட்டியலைக கேட்ட ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்,
அயரவில்லை அதனைக் கேட்டுச் சற்றும்!

“நிர்பயமாகத் தொடருங்கள் பணிகளை;
அபயம் அளிப்பான் இனிச் சக்கர ராஜன்!”

அனல் விழிகளுடன் அவன் வீசிய சக்கரம்
அழகிய ராஜகுமாரனாக உருவெடுத்தது.

“எட்டுத் திசைகளிலும் சென்று வேரறுப்பாய்
துஷ்டர்களைக் கூண்டோடு!” உத்தரவிட்டார்.

பெற்றான் சக்கர வேந்தன் என்ற பெயரை;
பெற்றான் அழகிய ரதத்தை மானசீகமாக.

பெற்றான் வலிய கரங்கள் ஓராயிரம்!
பெற்றான் அரிய ஆயுதங்கள் ஓராயிரம்!

கிழக்குப் பக்கம் சென்றான் அவன் முதலில்;
அழித்தான் துஷ்டரைக் கேசிமலைக் காட்டில்.

தென் கிழக்குப் பக்கம் சென்றான் அடுத்து;
தேடி துவம்சம் செய்தான் துஷ்டர்களை!

தெற்கு நோக்கிச் சென்றான் சக்ரராஜன்;
துடிப்புடன் எதிர்த்து வந்தனர் அவனை

உக்கிராங்கன், அங்கன், புளிந்தன், காலகன்
முக்தாயிகன் என்ற ஐந்து அரக்கர்கள்.

சதுரங்க சேனையுடன் வந்தவர் கண்டனர்
எதிரில் வருபவன் தன்னந்தனியன் என்பதை!

நகைத்தனர் சக்கர ராஜனைக் கண்டு!
பகைவர் வந்து சூழ்ந்தனர் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து

29. Chakra Raajan.

Once upon a time, the wicked asura tortured the pious people. The disturbed the yaaga and yagna when they were being performed. The sadhu gathered at Seshaachalam. Sreenivaasan appeared to them and listened to their tales of woe.

But he was not worried by those stories. He told the sages and sadhus, “Continue your penance, yaaga and yagna as before. Chakra Raajan will protect you from those wicked people in the future!”

He threw down his Sudarshan red-eyed and it changed into a handsome prince at once. Sreenivaasan commanded Chakra Raajan, “Go forth in all the directions one after another and rid the earth free of the wicked asuraas!”

Chakra Raajan developed one thousand mighty arms. He procured one thousand weapons used in wars. He got a fine chariot to ride on. He went to the east at first. He destroyed all the wicked people in the mountain Kesi.

Then he went to the South east and destroyed all the wicked people living there. Next he went to the south. Ugran, Angan, PuLindan, Mukthaayikan and Kaalakan were the five asuraas living there.

They came ready for the battle with the their chaturanga senai. They were amused to find Chakra Raajan all alone by himself with no weapons to help him.

They laughed at him and surrounded him completely.

7#9c. மந்தாதா

பிருது பிறந்தான் மன்னன் விகுக்ஷியின் மகனாக;
பிருது கொண்டிருந்தான் விஷ்ணுவின் அம்சத்தை.

மந்தாதா தோன்றினான் இந்த வம்சத்தில் - பல
மண்டபங்கள் அமைத்தான் மகாநதிக் கரையில்

வித்தியாசமானவன் மந்தாதா; பராசக்தியின் பக்தன்,
வினோதமாகத் தோன்றினான் தன் தந்தையிடமிருந்து

யௌவனாஸ்வான் ஆவான் இவன் தந்தை.
யௌவன மனைவியர் இருந்தனர் நூறு பேர்.

உண்டாக வில்லை மகப்பேறு அவனுக்கு;
வேண்டினான் முனிவர்களிடம் உதவுமாறு.

குழுமினர் முனிவர்கள்; செய்தனர் யாகம்;
கும்பத்தை ஸ்தாபித்து மந்திரித்து வந்தனர்.

தாகம் ஏற்பட்டது யௌவனாஸ்வானுக்கு;
யாகம் செய்யும் இடத்துக்குச் சென்றான்.

கும்பத்தின் மந்திரித்த நீரைப் பருகிவிட்டான்!
ஸ்தம்பித முனிவர்கள் திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்!

கரு உண்டானது கும்பத்து நீர் பருகியதால்;
பெருகலானது வயிறு கர்ப்பவதியைப் போல்.

வலது புறத்தைக் கிழித்துக் கொண்டு
வந்து பிறந்தான் அவன் தவப்புதல்வன்.

மரணம் அடையவில்லை யௌவனாஸ்வான்;
கருணை புரிந்து உயிர் காத்தனர் தேவர்கள்.

பாலூட்டுவது எப்படி என்று விசனப்படுகையில்
பால் சுரந்தது இந்திரனின் சுண்டு விரலில்!

"மந்தாதா!" என்று கூறியபடித் தந்தான்
இந்திரன் தன் சுண்டு விரலைச் சுவைக்க.

பாலை அருந்திய பாலகன் வளர்ந்தான் சிறப்பாக
பலசாலியானான் வளர்ந்து பெரியவன் ஆனவுடன்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

(மாந்தாதா = இவன் என்னை ஊட்டுபவன்)

7#9c. Maandaataa

Pruthu was the son of Vikukshi. Pruthu had the amsam of Vishnu. Maandaataa was born in his race. He was different from the others. he was born out of his father Yowvanaaswan. He was a staunch devotee of Devi Paraa Shakti.

His father Yowvanaaswan had one hundred beautiful wives but none of them bore him any children. So he performed a yaagaa with the help of the sages. Those rushis established a kumbam filled with water and were infusing the power of their mantraas into the water of the kumbham.

One night Yowvanaaswan felt very thirsty and drank the water from the kumbham. He became pregnant with a child and his stomach bulged like that of a pregnant woman. In due course, a son emerged tearing open the right side of his body.

The Devaas took pity on the king and kept him alive. The next problem was feeding the child. Suddenly milk started oozing from the little finger of Indra.

He gave his finger to the child to suckle uttering the words 'Maandaataa' meaning "He suckles me!" The child grew up well and became a strong man later on.

19a. வீரபத்திரர்

தக்கனின் வேள்வியை அழிக்க
முக்கண்ணன் செய்தான் முடிவு.

ஆயிரம் தலைகளும், முகங்களும்,
ஆயிரம் முகங்களில் முக்கண்களும்,

வலிய ஈராயிரம் நீண்ட தோள்களும்,
வளைந்த கொடிய பற்களும் கொண்ட

வீரபத்திரர் அங்கே தோன்றி அருளினார்.
வீரபத்திரர் உடலில் சிவனின் அணிகள்!

நெற்றிக் கண்ணில் இருந்து தோற்றியவர்
சற்றும் சளைத்தவர் இல்லை சிவனுக்கு!

அன்னையும் உற்பத்தி செய்தாள் உடனே
தன் பங்குக்கு பத்திரகாளி அம்மனை.

ஆயிரம் முகங்கள், ஈராயிரம் தோள்கள்,
அமைந்தாள் வீரபத்திரரின் துணைவியாக!

திங்களணிப் பிரானைப் பணிந்தனர்,
“எங்களைப் படைத்த காரணம் என்ன?”

“முக்கண்ணனை இகழ்ந்து வேள்வி புரியும்
தக்கனுக்குத் தக்க பாடம் புகட்டுவீர்!

பெறுவீர் எமக்குரிய வேள்வி அவியை!
தரமறுத்தால் அறுப்பீர் அவன் தலையை.

கொண்டும், கொன்றும் அழித்திடுவீர்
கெடுமதியாளனின் உற்றம் சுற்றத்தை.”

6#19a. Veerabadrar

Siva decided to ruin the Daksh Yagna. He created Veerabadran out of his fiery third eye. Veerabdran had one thousand heads and faces and
two thousand strong shoulders. His teeth were strong and curved. He wore the same ornaments as Siva and was equal to Siva.

Devi Dhaakshaayani created Badra Kaali who also had one thousand heads and faces and two thousand shoulders.

They both paid obeisance to Siva and Devi and asked, “What is the purpose for which we have been created?”

Siva told them, “Dakshan is performing a yaaga insulting me. Teach him a good lesson! Demand my share of havis. If he refuses to give, destroy the yagna and all those who are attending it”

30. அயி சிரசன்

ஐந்து அசுரர்கள் சூழ்ந்தனர் படையுடன்
அஞ்சா நெஞ்சன் சக்கர வேந்தனை!

ஆயிரம் கரங்களால் எய்தான் பாணங்களை;
ஆயிரம் பாணங்களை விலக்கினான் போரில்.

சக்கரம் போலவே சுற்றிச் சுழன்றான்;
சக்கராஜன் போரிட்டான் அசுரருடன்!

போரினைத் தொடர்ந்தனர் வெகுநேரம்
சூரியனை மறைத்தது பரவிய புழுதி.

கரங்களால் பொழிந்த சர மழையால்
சிரங்களை அறுத்தான் சக்கர ராஜன்!

அயசிரசன் ஆவான் ஐவரின் தலைவன்;
ஐயுற்றான் ஐவரின் அழிவைக் கேட்டு.

“அழிப்பேன் சக்கரனை!” சபதம் இட்டவன்
அழிவது கண்டான் தன் எஞ்சிய படையும்!

வளைத்துக் கொள்ள ஆணையிட்டான
அழிக்கும் அஸ்திரத்தையும் விடுத்தான்.

ஆக்னேய அஸ்திரம் விடுத்தான் சக்கர ராஜன்
அக்னிக்கு முன்னால் நிற்க முடியுமா எதுவும்?

அக்னி அஸ்திரம் அழித்தது பாணத்தை;
அக்னி அஸ்திரம் அழித்து அயசிரசனை!

“யமனிடம் அனுப்புவேன் அவனை!” என்று
போர்க்களம் சூளுரைத்து வந்த அயசிரசன்,

யமனிடம் சென்று விட்டான் அவனே
போர்க்களம் வந்து நாழிகைப் பொழுதில்!

தெற்கு திசையில் அழித்தான் துஷ்டர்களை;
தென் மேற்கிலும் அழித்தான் துஷ்டர்களை;

மேற்கு திசை நோக்கிச் சென்றான்,
மேற்கொண்டு அசுரரை அழிப்பதற்கு!

30. Ayisirasan

The five asuraas surrounded Chakra Raajan completely. Chakra Raajan shot arrows using all his thousand mighty arms. He destroyed the arrows shot by the asuras. He swirled like a wheel in the battle field and fought with those asuras and their armies all by himself.

The dust under their feet rose to form a screen hiding the sun. Chakra Raajan severed the heads of the five asuras and their army ran away.

Ayisirasan was the leader of those five asurass. He heard of the battle and its outcome and could not believe his ears. “I will kill that upstart with my own hands!” he swore and came to the battle field, gathering the soldiers who were still alive.

Chakra Raajan shot his Aagneya asthram . The arrow shot by Ayisirasan got destroyed like a moth in fire. Aagneya asthram destroyed the arrow and then the asuran Ayisirasan also.

He who entered the battle field swearing to kill Chara Raajan got killed by him in less than a naazhigai. (1 naazhigai = 24 minutes)

Chakra Raajan destroyed the the wicked asuraas living in the south and the south west before proceeding to the west to vanquish more asuras living there.

7#10a. சத்திய விரதன்

மாந்தாதா விளங்கினான் சிறந்த மன்னனாக;
இந்திரன் தந்தான் திரஸதஸ்யு என்ற பட்டம்.

பிந்துமதி மாந்தாதாவின் அழகிய மனைவி;
பிந்துமதிக்குப் பிறந்தனர் இரண்டு மகன்கள்.

புருகுச்சன், முசுகுந்தன் ஆவர் இரு மகன்கள்
புருகுச்சன் வம்சத்தில் பிறந்தான் அருணன்.

அருணனின் மகன் ஆவான் சத்திய விரதன்
பெரும் காமுகன், சுயநலவாதி, லோபகுணன்.

சென்றான் அந்தணர் திருமணத்துக்கு - கடத்திச்
சென்றான் மணப் பெண்ணை மோகம் கொண்டு.

முறையிட்டனர் பெற்றோர் அருனனிடம் சென்று;
முறை தவறி நடந்த மகன் மீது சினம் கொண்டான்.

நாடு கடத்திவிட்டான் அருணன் சத்திய விரதனை
நாய் இறைச்சி தின்பவர்கள் வாழுகின்ற சேரிக்கு.

பரிந்து பேசி சமாதானம் செய்யாததால் - அவன்
குரோதம் கொண்டான் குலகுரு வசிஷ்டர் மீது.

கானகம் சென்றான் அருணன் தவம் செய்திட;
வானம் பொய்த்தது பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள்!

தேசத்தில் தலை விரித்தாடியது கடும் பஞ்சம்;
வசித்தது அங்கு விச்வாமித்திரரின் குடும்பம்.

'ஒரு பிள்ளை விலைக்கு விற்று விட்டால்
பிற பிள்ளைகளைப் போஷிக்க இயலுமே!'

கழுத்தில் தர்ப்பைக் கயிற்றைக் கட்டி
இழுத்துச் சென்றாள் முனிவர் மனைவி.

7#10a. Satya Vratan

Maandhataa was a good king. Indra gave him a title as Tirasathasyu. Maandhataa had a beautiful wife named Bindumati. They had two sons named Purukutsa and Muchukunda. Arunan was the son of Purukutsan and Satya Vratan was Aruna's son.

Satya Vratan was lustful, greedy and self centered. He went to attend the wedding of a brahmin girl but abducted her during her wedding.

The parents of the bride complained to Arunan who became very angry and banished his son Satya Vratan to live in the slum with the people who ate dog meat. Satyavratan was angry with Vasishta for not intervening and patching up between him and his father Arunan.

Arunan went to a forest for doing penance. The rains failed for twelve long years. There was scarcity and famine everywhere.

Viswaamitra's family was living there. Unable to feed her children, Viswaamitra's wife decided to sell one of her sons to get money to feed the others. She tied a rope of kusa grass around the neck of her middle son and dragged him along for selling him.






 
This may sound strange but it is true!
Our ancestors firmly believed that in order to
to save a family, one member can be sacrificed,
to save a village, a whole family can be sacrificed,
to save a country, a whole village can be sacrificed.
So Viswaamitra's wife deciding to sell one of her children
to keep alive all the others was not against Dharma Saastra.

19b. வேள்விச் சாலை

உயிர்ப்புக் காற்று, வியர்வையினின்றும்
உடல் உறுப்புக்களினின்றும் வீரபத்திரர்

உற்பத்தி செய்தார் பூதக் கூட்டங்களை.
உற்பத்தி செய்தாள் காளி தன் படைகளை.

படைகள் புடைசூழச் சென்றனர் யாகசாலை;
பானுகம்பர் ஒலித்தார் இசைக்கருவிகளை!

படை முன்பு தண்டன், பினாகி, சிங்கன்
குடை பிடித்து நடந்தனர் யாகசாலைக்கு.

“தக்கனின் யாக சாலையினின்று எவரும்
தப்பிச் செல்லாது தடை செய்யுங்கள்!”

உடன் நடந்த படை விரிந்து பரந்து
தடை செய்தது செல்லும் வழிகளை.

எதிர்த்து வந்த தக்கனின் படைகளை
மிதித்துக் கொன்று ஆரவாரித்தனர்.

6#19b. Reaching the Yaagasala.

Veerabadran produced his army of demons from his breath, his sweat and theother parts of his body. Kali produced her army similarly. They marched to the yaagasala with their armies.

Bhaanukampar played various instruments. Dandan, Pinaki and Singan marched with their flags in front of the army.

After reaching the yaagasaala, Veerabadran commanded the army to block all the exits of the yaagasaala. The army spread out and blocked all the exits.

Dakshan’s army which came protesting this was vanquished effortlessly.

31. வனகர்த்தன்

மேற்கில் வசித்தான் அசுரன் வனகர்த்தன்,
மேற்கொண்டான் தவம் சிவனைக் குறித்து.

“பிறக்க வேண்டும் புஜபலம் மிகுந்த ஒரு மகன்;
சிறக்க வேண்டும் மூவுலகங்களையும் வென்று!”

காலம் கடந்தது; காட்சி தரவில்லை சிவபிரான்,
ஞாலம் வெல்லும் மகனை விரும்பிய அசுரனுக்கு.

தலையை அறுத்து அக்கினியில் இடும் போது,
பலியைத் தடுத்துத் தரிசனம் தந்தான் சிவன்.

“மனிதரும் தேவரும் வெல்ல முடியாத – வீர
மகன் பிறக்க அருள் புரிவீர்!” என்றான் இவன்.

பெருமிதம் கொண்டான் மகன் பிறந்ததும்;
செருக்கு மிகுந்துவிடத் துன்புறுத்தலானான்.

சாதுகளைத் தாக்கினான் ஈவு இரக்கமின்றி.
பேதமின்றிச் சேதப்படுத்தினான் முனிவரை.

சக்கர ராஜனை எதிர்க்க அனுப்பினான் – ஒரு
சதுரங்க சேனையைத் திரட்டி வனகர்த்தன்.

நெருப்பில் வீழ்ந்த விட்டில்கள் ஆயினர்.
நெருங்க முடியவில்லை சக்கர ராஜனை.

படை அழிந்து விட்டது என்று கேட்டதும்
மடை திறந்து கோபம் பெருக்கெடுத்தது.

ஜ்வால பாதனை அனுப்பினான் போருக்கு.
ஜெயிக்க முடியாத மகனே ஜ்வால பாதன்!

அரசகுமாரன் என்று எண்ணினான் பகைவனை.
அறியவில்லை அவன் சுதர்சனத்தின் உருவென!

அஸ்திரங்கள் பாய்ந்தன இரு திசைகளிலும்;
அஸ்திரங்கள் மாய்ந்தன தாக்கிக் கொண்டபின்.

சக்கர ராஜனின் அஸ்திரம் விரைந்து சென்றது;
மிக்க பலத்துடன் ஜ்வால பாதனை நெருங்கியது.

மாயையால் மறைந்துவிட முயன்ற அசுரனை
மாய்த்தது பாய்ந்து தாக்கிய சக்கரனின் பாணம்!

திரட்டி வந்தான் போரில் சிதறி ஓடிய வீரர்களை.
மரித்தான் தொடர்ந்து நடந்த போரில் வனகர்த்தன்.

31. Vanakartan

Vanakartan lived in the western direction. He had done severe penance on Lord Siva. He wished for a son who would conquer all the three worlds. But Siva did not appear to him for a very long time.

Vanakartan got very angry and wanted to offer his own head to the fire in the yaaga kundam. When he was about to cut off his own head, Siva appeared and stopped him from doing so.

Vanakartan asked to be blessed with a son who will be invincible by occupants of all the three worlds. He got a son Jwaala Paadan as desired by him. He became arrogant and started troubling the sages, rushis and pious people.

He sent his army to fight Chakra Raajan but his army got destroyed like a cloud of locusts in a wild fire. When he heard of this, he became very angry and sent his son to fight Chakra Raajan.

Jwaala Paadan thought that Chakra Raajan was a prince. He did not know that he was the personification of Lord’s Sudarshan.

A war ensued between the asura army and Chakra Raajan. Jwaala Paadan tried to escape the asthram shot by Chakra Raajan by becoming invisible. But the ashtram did not spare his life.

On hearing the end of the invincible Jwaala Paadan, Vanakartan himself came to the battle field. He fought valiantly but got killed by Chakra Raajan.

7#10b. திரிசங்கு

சத்திய விரதன் கண்டான் இருவரையும்
சத்திய விரதன் கேட்டான் விவரங்களை.

மனம் இளகி விட்டது சத்திய விரதனுக்கு;
"தினம் உணவு கொண்டு தருவேன் இனி!"

தர்ப்பைக் கயிற்றால் கட்டப்பட்ட மகன்
தவ முனிவன் காலவன் ஆனான் வளர்ந்து.

சத்தியம் தவறவில்லை சத்திய விரதன்;
நித்தம் கொண்டு தந்தான் உணவு வகைகள்.

ஒருநாள் கிடைக்கவில்லை எந்த உணவுமே!
குரு வசிஷ்டர் வளர்த்தும் பசுவைக் கண்டான்.

குரோதம் மறையவில்லை மனத்தில் இருந்து!
விரோதம் வெளிப்பட்டது சமயம் வந்தவுடன்!

திருடிச் சென்றான் அவன் வசிஷ்டரின் பசுவை.
பெரும் பகுதியைத் தந்தான் ரிஷி பத்தினிக்கு.

தின்றான் தானும் கொன்ற பசுவின் இறைச்சியை!
கொன்றால் பாவம் தின்றால் தீரும் அல்லவா?

எல்லை மீறிவிட்டது வசிஷ்டரின் சினம் -தரும்
தொல்லைக்கு ஓர் அளவில்லாமல் போனதால்.

"கவர்ந்து சென்றாய் அன்று மணப் பெண்ணை;
கவர்ந்து தின்றாய் நான் வளர்த்து வந்த பசுவை.

மூட்டினாய் வெஞ்சினம் உன் தந்தையின் மனதில்!
மூன்று கொம்புகள் உடைய பிசாசாக மாறுவாய்.

கண்டு அஞ்சட்டும் மூன்று உலகங்களும் உன்னை.
கொண்டு திரிவாய் உந்தன் பாவ மூட்டைகளை!"

கோர உருவெடுத்துவிட்டான் சத்திய விரதன்;
சோர்வடையாது தியானித்து வந்தான் தேவியை .

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

7#10b. Trisanku

Satyavratan saw the mother and her son she dragged along. He spoke to them and found out the matter. His heart melted with pity towards the unfortunate boy.

He promised to bring their family enough food everyday without fail. He released the boy from the kusa grass rope. The little boy grew to become Kaalavan, a great tapasvi later in his life.

Satyavratan kept his promise and secured food for the family of Viswaamitra everyday. On one day, he could not get anything for them. He saw the cow that belonged to Sage Vasishta.

His anger towards vasishta existed like a coal covered by ash. When the opportunity came to retaliate he made use of it. he killed the cow and gave a major portion the the family of the rushi Viswaamitra. He also ate a part of the cow.

Sage Vasista's rage knew no bounds when he came to know the truth. The troubles caused by Satyavratan were too many. He abducted the brahmin bride during her wedding.

He abducted the sage's pet cow to kill it and eat it. He had made his father very sad while he lived. Vasista cursed Satyavratan thus:

"May you become a demon with three horns, seeing whom all the three worlds will shiver in fear. May you roam around carrying the bundle of sins committed by you!"

Satya vrathan became a demon with three horns. it did not bother him. He spent his entire time meditation on Shakti Devi.

20a. வேள்விச் சாலை

கேள்வி முறையின்றி பலவந்தமாக
வேள்விச் சாலையில் நுழைந்தனர்.

அச்சத்தில் உறைந்து விட்டனர் தேவர்.
“தக்கனின் வேள்விக்கு வந்ததே தவறு!

தேடி வந்து தாக்குபவர்களிடமிருந்து
ஓடிப் போகவும் வழில்லாது போனது!”

இடிந்து நின்ற தக்கன் முன் சென்றார்
இடிபோல் நகைத்துக் கொம்பை ஊதினார்.

பிளந்தது மேருமலை; வெடித்தது நிலம்;
தளர்ந்தனர் தேவர், மற்றும் முனிவர்கள்.

ஓங்கி ஒலித்த வாத்தியத்தைக் கேட்டு
ஏங்கித் துன்புற்று நின்றான் தக்கன்.

“யார் நீ? எங்கு வந்தாய்?” என வினவ
“பார் போற்றும் சிவனாரின் மகன் நான்

அவிர் பாகத்தை அவர் சார்பில் பெற
அவர் ஆணைப்படி வந்துள்ளேன் நான்!”

“சிவனுக்கு வேள்வியின் அவிர் பாகத்தை
எவரும் தரமாட்டார் இனிமேல் உலகில்!”

பிரணவமும், மறைகளும் ஒன்றுகூடி
விரைந்து மொழிந்தன நல்லறிவினை!

“சிவனைத் தவிர வேறு யார் தலைவர்?
அவருக்கு உரிய அவியை அளிப்பாய்!”

தக்கனின் மனம் மாறவில்லை சற்றும்;
அக்கணமே மறைந்தன நான்மறைகள்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி
 
KANDA PURAANAM -DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#20a. Destroying the yaaga.

They forced their entry into the yaagasaala. The Deva froze in fear. They were blaming themselves for having come to attend Dakshan’s yagna.
There was no hope of escaping from the place.

Dakshan stood rooted to the spot. Veerabadran went to him and laughed like thunder claps. He blew his horn. Mount Meru and the earth got cracked by that sound. All the living things shivered in sheer fear.

Dakshan gathered all his courage and asked, “Who are you? Why are you here?”

Veerabadran replied, “I am the son of Siva. I have come here to collect his share of Havis on his behalf.

Dakshan replied, “Henceforth no one will offer Havis to Siva.”

Now The Vedas and Prananva spoke to Dakshan in unison,“Siva is the lord of Yagna. Give away His share of Havis now.”

But Dakshan had made up his mind once for all. The Vedas and Pranava disappeared from there immediately.
