Thvashtaa, Viswaroopan's father became very angry with Indra and wanted to avenge his son's murder.He performed a yaagam in order to destroy Indra.

The powerful Vruthraasuran appeared as a result of the Yaagam. Thvashtaa ordered him to destroy Indra. Vtutraasuran went looking for Indra.

The war between the asuras and devas went on and on for a long time! Indra could not vanquish Vrutraaasuran. He ran to Brahma for his advice.

Together they ran to Vishnu for His advice. Vishnu told them, "Indra's vajraayutham has lost all its power. Indra has to get a new weapon made by Viswakarma.

During the time of the amrutha mathanam, both the suras and asuras had handed over all their weapons to the maharushi Dadhichi for safe keeping.

None of them went back to collect their weapons. Hence the maharushi had swallowed them. They all have got attached to his spine. If you could make the new Vajraayutham from his spine, you will become invincible".

Indra begged the maharushi Dadhichi for the gift of his back bone. Anyone would have refused such a gift-the spine of a living man!

But Dadhichi was a mahaan and was not attached to his physical body. He promptly agreed to gift his spine and said to Indra,"Sooner or later my body will perish and my bones will rot. Let it be now and for a holy cause".

He sat in meditation and cast off his physical body. Viswakarma made a new vajraayutham with the rushi's spine. Deva's hope for victory was renewed. So also their power and strength.They got ready for a fresh war with the invincible Vrutraasuran.

The army of the Deva reached the battle field.[/FONT]

Indra's arrogance was caused by his unlimited power and supremacy!

# 1 இந்திரன் பழி தீர்ந்தது.

# 1 (c). கடம்பவனம்.

மீண்டும் தொடங்கித் தொடர்ந்தது அங்கே
சண்ட மாருதம் போன்ற ஒரு கடும் யுத்தம்.
திடீரெனக் கடலில் புகுந்துவிட்டான் வீரன்,
நொடியில் மறைந்து விட்டான் விருத்திரன்.

பிரமித்த இந்திரன் செய்வதறியாமலே
பிரமனையே நாடி ஓடினான் மீண்டும்!
"குறுமுனி அகத்தியர் பெருமானிடம் நீ
பெறுவாய் இத்துயர் தீர்க்கும் நல்லுதவி!"

குறுவடிவினர் ஆயினும் அருந்தவ முனிவர்,
பெருவலிவுடையவர், திருமால் போன்றவர்;
உள்ளங்கையில் அள்ளி எடுத்த முனிவர் அத்
தெள்ளிய கடல் நீரைப் பருகியே விட்டார்.

அலைகடலின் அடியினில் அமைந்த ஒரு
மலையின் உச்சியில் இருந்து தவம் செய்த,
விருத்திரன் தலையை அறுத்துத் தள்ளினான்
பெருமை மிகு வச்சிராயுதத்தால் இந்திரன்!

பற்றியது மீண்டும் பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம்!
வற்றியது இந்திரனின் வலிவும், பொலிவும்;
மறைந்தன அவன் அழகும், பெருமையும்,
கரைந்தன அவன் வடிவும், இளமையும்!

தன்னை மறைத்துக் கொண்டான் நாணத்தால்,
தண்டில், ஒரு தாமரையில், ஒரு நீர் நிலையில்.
எத்தனை காலம் உருண்டு ஓடியதோ அறியோம்!
எத்தனை மாற்றங்கள் நிகழ்ந்தனவோ அறியோம்!

"மன்னன் இல்லாத நாடா?" என்று உருவாக்கினர்
மண்ணுலக நகுஷனை விண்ணுலக வேந்தனாக!
பெண்ணாசையால் மதியிழந்து குறுமுனிசாபத்தால்
மண்ணுலகில் மலைப்பாம்பாய் வீழ்ந்தான் நகுஷன்.

மனம் கனிந்த வியாழபகவான் அழைத்தார்.
மனம் வருந்திய இந்திரனுக்கு உரைத்தார்.
" பூவுலகம் செல்வாய்! ஈசனைப் பூசித்து
புதிய சக்தி பெற்று மீண்டும் வருவாய்!"

கயிலையில் துவங்கினான் பூசனையை;
காஞ்சி வந்து விட்டபோதும் மாற்றமில்லை!
பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் விலகவும் இல்லை
அரனின் அருளாசிகள் கிடைக்கவும் இல்லை.

கடம்ப வனத்தை அடைந்தான் இந்திரன்;
அடைந்தபோதே நடந்தது ஓர் அற்புதம்!
பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் விலகிச் செல்லவே
பிரமிக்க வைக்கும் ஒளியினை அடைந்தான்.

The fierce battle between the Deva and Asura was resumed and renewed. It was like a 'chanda maarutham' and a war between two huge clouds! In the middle of the battle Vrutrasuran entered the sea and disappeared from every- body's sight!

As usual Indra ran to Brahma for guidance. Brahma advised him to seek the help of sage Agasthya. He was no doubt small in stature but was as great as Maha Vishnu himself.

Sage Agasthya took the water of the sea in his palm and drank it completely. Vrutrasuran was found sitting on the top of a cliff, at the bottom of the sea and doing penance. Indra cut off his head with the new Vajraayutham.

Once again Indra was afflicted by the Brahmahathi dosham. He lost his beauty, strength, valor and tejas. Overcome by a sense of shame, he hid himself in the stem of a lotus flower, away from everybody's sight. Years rolled by!

Devas wanted a new king since they could not find Indra anywhere! They crowned the famous king Nahushan as the new Indra. Nahushan soon got corrupted by power and started coveting Sasi Devi-Indra's patni.

Guided by Indra, Sasi Devi enacted his plan. Nahushan was asked to ride a palanquin carried by the Sapta Rushis. He kicked sage Agasthya and was transformed to a huge python by the curse of the angered rushi.

Bruhaspati took pity on Indra. He advised Indra to go to Boolokam and worship Lord Siva, to get back his lost glory. Indra worshipped Siva in Kailash and started his Theertha Yathra southwards. He worshiped Siva in various holy places and reached Kanchi but all in vain. The dosham was neither absolved nor annulled.

When he reached kadambavanam, a miracle happened! The Brahmahathi dosham left him completely.He regained his original form and was overwhelmed by the transformation.[/FONT]

# 1 இந்திரன் பழி தீர்ந்தது.

# 1 (d). பொற்றாமரைக் குளம்.

தீர்த்தக் கரையில் தானே முளைத்து எழுந்த
மூர்த்தி சிவலிங்கத்தைக் கண்டான் இந்திரன்;
காணாத புதையலைக் கண்ணுற்றவன் யாரும்
பேணாத மூர்த்தியைப் பேணலுற்றான் அவன்.

கண்கள் பனிக்க, நாத்தழுதழுக்க, தன் மனப்
புண்கள் மறையப் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியுற்றான்.
தேவர் உலக மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்து அந்த
தேவர் பிரானை வழிபட விழைந்தான்.

தேவர் உலகின் திவ்விய மலர்களைத்
தேவன் பூஜைக்குக் கொணரப் பணித்தான்.
தேவத் தச்சன் விஸ்வகர்மாவை வருமாறு
தேவர்கோன் இந்திரன் உடனே பணித்தான்.

"மண்ணில் எவரும் கண்டறியாத அரிய
திண்ணிய விமானத்தை உருவாக்குவாய் நீ!
அன்பருக்கு அன்பன் ஆகிய நம் ஐயனுக்கு
அன்புடன் அளிக்க விழைகின்றேன் நான்!"

தாமரைக் குளத்தில் சென்று தேடினால்,
தாமரை மலர் ஒன்று கூட இல்லையே!
ஏங்கிய இந்திரனின் வாடிவிட்ட மனப்
பாங்கினை உணர்ந்தான் மாதொரு பாகன்.

நொடியில் தோன்றின அத்தாமரைக் குளத்தில்,
வடிவமைந்த வாடாத பொற்றாமரைகள் பல!
உள்ளக் களிப்புடன் நீராடி எழுந்தவன்,
அள்ளிக் கொண்டான் பறித்த மலர்களை.

எட்டு யானைகள், முப்பத்திரு சிங்கங்கள்;
எட்டெட்டு சிவகணங்கள் தாங்கும் அழகிய
மாணிக்க விமானத்தை அர்ப்பணித்தான்
மாணிக்கவாசகர் வணங்கிய இறைவனுக்கு.

பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் தானே பறித்த
பொற்றாமரை மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்தான்;
"அத்தா! உன்னை தினம் தவறாமல் வந்து
பித்தா! பிறைச் சூடி என வாழ்த்த அருள்வாய்!"

"சித்திரையின் முழு நிலவில் செய்யும் பூஜை
ஒத்திருக்கும் நித்தம் செய்திடும் பூசையினை!.
தப்பாமல் வந்து நீ இங்கு எனைத் தொழுவாய்.
இப்போதே பெறுவாய் இழந்தவை எல்லாம்!"

ஐயன் அருள் இருந்தால் நிகழ்ந்திடும்,
செய்யற்கரிய பல வினோதஅற்புதங்கள்.
மின்னொளிர் மேனியும் பொலிவும் பெற்று,
விண்ணுலகேகினான் விண்ணவர் கோமான்.

[FONT=comic sans ms,sans-serif]1.(d). THE POND OF GOLDEN LOTUS.

Indra saw a holy theertham in Kadambavanam.He saw a swayambu Lingam on the bank of the theertham.He felt happy that his long search for mercy of Siva had not been in vain.He had at last found the rare moorthi, which he had been looking for!

He shed copious tears of joy. All his sense of shame and pain left him instantly. He wanted to do puja to the Sivalingam with the divine flowers brought from heaven.

He sent some of his attendants to bring the flowers from Swargam and also command the Deva carpenter Viswakarma to come down to earth immediately. Indra ordered Viswakarma to make the most unique vimaanam for the temple of the Sivalingam.

He wanted to do puja with the lotus flowers of the pond and was disappointed not to find even a single flower in the pond. Lord Siva took pity on Indra and made the most exquisite golden lotuses bloom in the pond. They were fragrant and would never wither away!

Indra took his holy dip in the pond. He gathered the golden lotus flowers and did Siva puja. The vimaanam made for the temple had eight elephants, thirty two lions and sixty four Sivaganaas supporting the vimaanam carved out of Carbuncle.

Lord Siva was immensely pleased by Indra's bhakti. Indra wanted to come there everyday to do similar puja. But Lord told him that the puja done on the full moon day of the Chaitra month was equal to the puja performed everyday for one whole year.

He blessed Indra to regain everything he had lost due to the brahmahathi dosham.

Indra was restored his original glory and went back to swargam happily.

When God is on our side, who can be against us?[/FONT]

# 2. வெள்ளை யானை சாபம் தீர்ந்தது.

2 (a). முனிவரின் சாபம்.

பொங்கும் புண்ணிய நதியாம் அழகிய
கங்கைக் கரையில் தானே அமைத்த,
லிங்க பூஜையைத் துர்வாச முனிவர்
தங்கு தடையின்றிச் செய்து வந்தார்.

மனம் மகிழ்ந்த மாதொரு பாகனும்
மணம் வீசும் பொற்றாமரை மலரினை,
முடியிலிருந்து கீழே விழச் செய்தார்
அடியவனுக்குத் தன் அருட்பிரசாதமாக.

கண்களில் ஒற்றி அகமிக மகிழ்ந்து,
விண்ணுலகேகிய முனிவர் கண்டார்;
வெற்றி வாகை சூடித் திரும்புகின்ற
வெற்றித் திருமகன் விண்ணவர் கோனை.

பொங்கும் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அவனுக்குத்
தங்களால் இயன்ற காணிக்கைகளை
அங்குள்ள அனைவரும் அளிப்பதை
இங்கிருந்து சென்ற முனிவர் கண்டார்.

தன்னிடம் இருந்த பொற்றாமரையைத்
தன் பரிசாக அவர் அளித்திடும்போது;
வெற்றியின் மதத்தினால் அறிவழிந்தவன்
பெற்றுக் கொண்டான் ஒற்றைக் கையால்!

ஒற்றவும் இல்லை கண்களில் மலரை,
வெற்றுப் பொருள் போலக் கருதி யானை
மத்தகத்தின் மீது பொற்றாமரை மலரை
வைத்து விட்டான் விண்ணவர் வேந்தன்!

பித்துப் பிடித்துவிட்டது போல் ஐராவதம்
மத்தக மலரைக் கீழே தரையில் தள்ளி;
மிதித்துக் காலால் கசக்கி மலரைத்
துதிக்கையால் தூக்கி எறிந்து விட்டது!

கனிந்தது கோபம் ஒரே வினாடியில்;
முனிவரின் சாபம் வெளிப்பட்டது.
"ஐயனின் அருட்பிரசாதத்தை ஒரு
கையால் பெற்று அவமதித்தாய் மலரை!

பாண்டிய வீரன் கைத் திகிரியில்
பந்தாடப்படும் உன் தலை ஒருநாள்!
தெய்வத் தன்மை அழிந்து ஒழிந்து,
தெய்வயானை மாறும் காட்டானையாக!"

பதறி விழுந்தனர் முனிவர் கால்களில்,
கதறிவேண்டினர் சாப விமோசனம்,
சுற்றி நின்ற மற்றவர் எல்லோரும்
கொற்றவனுக்காக மிகவும் இறைஞ்சினர்!

"இந்திரன் செய்தது தவறே ஆயினும்
இந்திரன் சாபத்தை நானே மாற்றுவேன்;
தலைக்கு வந்த அந்த ஆபத்து அவன்
தலை முடியோடு நீங்கிப்போய் விடும்!

யானையின் சாபத்தை மாற்றி அமைத்திட
யாராலுமே முடியாது என்றறிவீர்!
நூறு ஆண்டுகள் மண்ணில் வாழ்ந்தபின்
மாறும் யானையின் சாபமும் வடிவும்"

விளையாட்டு வினையாகி விட்டது கண்டீர்!
விளையாடும் இடம் தெரியாமல் ஆடினதால்!
இறையிடத்தும், குருவிடத்தும் வேண்டும்
குறைவில்லாத ஒரு பக்தி என்றென்றும்!

2 (A). SAAPAM ON AIRAVATHAM.

Durvaasa has done prathishtaa of a Sivalingam on the bank of river Ganga. He did pooja to this Lingam with utmost bakti, everyday without fail. Lord Siva was pleased with the rushi's devotion and let a golden lotus fall from his head-as a divine prasaadam to the rushi.

The rushi was overwhelmed to receive Lord's prasaadam. He went to the Heaven and saw Indra returning victoriously after a battle with the Asuras. Everyone who had gathered there to welcome Indra was giving his some gift of love and appreciation. The rushi wanted to present the golden lotus to Indra, as a mark of his appreciation and respect.

Indra was steeped to his eyebrows in pride and received the flower carelessly with one hand. He then placed it on the head of Airaavatham. The elephant was also intoxicated with the victory in the war. It grabbed the golden lotus, threw it down and trampled on it. It then tossed away the flower with his trunk.

Rushi became insane with anger! He cursed both Indra and Airaavatham severely.

"Indra! you are intoxicated by your victory. You did not receive god's prasaadam with the honor it deserves. You will lose your head to the discus thrown at you by a Pandiya King. Airaavatham will lose its divinity and be reduced to a black wild elephant!"

Everyone fell at his feet begging for pardon. The rushi was moved to pity.

He reduced the severity of his curse and said,

"Indra! The discus aimed at you by the Pandiya King will destroy your crown and not your head! But I can't reduce the severity of the curse on Airaavatham. He will live as a black wild elephant for a hundred years. He will regain his divinity, original color and glory after the saapa vimochanam."

We must never show disrespect to God and Guru-unless we are willing to suffer the unpleasant consequences of our thoughtless actions!

# 2. வெள்ளை யானை சாபம் தீர்ந்தது.

2 (b) சாப விமோசனம்.

அறிவு மறைந்தது, நிறம் மாறியது;
அரியயானை ஆயிற்று ஒரு கரியயானை!
மற்ற யானைகளைப் போலவே இதுவும்
சுற்றித் திரிந்தது அடர்ந்த காடுகளிலே.

நூறு ஆண்டுகள் கழிந்து சாபம்
மாறும் நேரம் வந்து விட்டது!
விதிவசத்தால் அன்று இழந்த
மதியைப் பெறும் நேரம் வந்தது.

கடம்பவனத்தில் நுழைந்தது யானை;
உடம்பில் ஏற்பட்டது ஒரு சிலிர்ப்பு!
பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தைக் கண்டதும்
மற்றதன் அறிவுக்கண்ணும் திறந்தது!

குளத்தில் முங்கி எழுந்தவுடனேயே
ஜொலிக்கும் மேனி திரும்பிவிட்டது!
பழைய நிறமும், பழைய வடிவும்,
பழைய பலமும், பொலிவும் பெற்றது!

துதிக்கையில் முகர்ந்து எடுத்துச் சென்ற
தூய நீரால் சிவனை அபிஷேகம் செய்தது!
பொற்றாமரை மலர்களையும் பறித்து
சாற்றித் தொழுது பூஜையும் செய்தது.

"வேண்டிய வரம் தருவேன்!" என்று
ஆண்டவன் அருள் கூர்ந்த போது அது,
"தானும் தாங்க வேண்டும் ஈசனுடைய
தன்னிகரில்லாத விமானத்தை" என்றது!

"இந்திரன் ஏறும் யானை ஆயிற்றே நீ ?
இந்திரன் என்னுடைய பக்தன் ஆவான்!
அவனை நீ முன்போலத் தாங்குவதையே
அனுதினமும் யாம் விழைகின்றோம் !"

மேற்கு திசையில் அமைத்தது யானை
ஏற்றம் மிகுந்த மற்றொரு தீர்த்தம்!
ஐராவத தீர்த்தம் என்று புகழ் பெற்றது
ஐராவதத்தால் அமைக்கப்பட்ட தீர்த்தம்.

ஐராவதேஸ்வரர் என்ற லிங்கத்தையும்,
ஐராவத கணேசரையும் அழகு மிளிர;
ஐராவதத் தீர்த்தத்தின் கரையிலேயே
ஐராவத யானை அமைத்துவிட்டது!

இந்திரனின் தூதுவர்கள் வந்து வந்து,
இந்திரலோகம் வருமாறு அழைத்தும்;
தந்திரம் செய்தபடித் தங்கி விட்டது,
இந்த மண்ணுலகிலேயே ஐராவதம்!

கிழக்குப்புறத்திலும் அமைத்தது பிறகு
அழகிய இந்திரேஸ்வரரை, ஐராவதம்.
இந்திரன் மீண்டும் அழைப்பு விடவே
இந்திரலோகம் சென்றது தயங்கியபடி.

மண்ணுலகில் நிலவும் பக்தி பாவனை
விண்ணுலகில் இருப்பதில்லை போலும்!
சாபம் பெற்று வருவதும் மண்ணுலகுக்கு!
சாபம் தீர்ந்தும் விரும்புவது மண்ணுலகே!

2 (b). Saapa Vimochanam!

Airaavatham lost its divinity, its white color, its two extra tusks and became a regular bull elephant. It forgot its past glory and roamed in the jungle just like any ordinary elephant!

A hundred years rolled by! The auspicious time of the saapa vimochanan was fast approaching. It was time for regaining its divinity and past glory. It entered Kadambavanam on that day. It felt a thrill run along its body-as if a mild electric shock was given. The moment it cast its eyes on the pond of Golden Lotuses, it remembered it glorious past.

It took a holy dip in the pond. It got back it color, form and glory. It carried water in its trunk and performed abhishekam to the Sivalingam. It plucked some lotus flowers from the pond and did archanai to the Lingam. The Lord was pleased with Airaavatham and wanted to bestow a boon on it.

Airaavatham wanted to become one of the elephants supporting the Lord's Vimaanam.

But God told it that since it was the Indra's elephant it should serve him as before.

Airaavatham made a new theertham on the western side of the temple. It established Airaavatheswarar and Airaavatha Ganesar on the banks of the Airaavatha Theertham.

Indra learnt about the saapa vimochanam and sent messengers ordering Airaavatham to return to him. But it did not want to return to the Heaven and stayed back on earth.

Airaavatham established another Lingam, Indireswarar on the eastern side. Indra was sending repeated messengers. Finally Airaavatham went back to Indra halfheartedly.

Isn't strange that people who get cursed come down to live on the earth till the time of saapa vimochanam.

Isn't stranger that after sapa vimochanam they want to continue to live on earth-where real bakti and spiritual saadana is possible rather than return to a life on non-stop-indulgence, arrogance and ego! .

3 . ஆலவாய் கண்டது.

3. (a). திருநகர் சமைப்பாய்!

பாண்டிய மன்னன் குலசேகரன்
ஆண்டு வந்தான் நீதி வழுவாமல்;
மணவூர் என்னும் அழகிய தலைநகர்,
மணமிகு கடம்பவனத்துக்குக் கிழக்கே!

மணவூரில் ஓர் அரிய சிவபக்தன்,
வணிகன் தனஞ்சயன் என்பவன்;
தாண்டவம் ஆடும் ஆண்டவனிடம்
பூண்டிருந்தான் தாளாததொரு பக்தி.

வணிகம் கருதி மேற்கே சென்றவன்,
வணிகம் முடித்துத் திரும்பி இரவுப்
பொழுதைக் கழிக்க எண்ணியபடியே,
நுழைந்தான் அழகிய கடம்பவனத்தில்!

யானைகள் தாங்கும் அழகியதொரு
யாரும் காணாத அற்புத விமானத்தைக்
கண்டவன் சென்றான் அதன் அருகினில்,
கண்டான் அதிலொரு அதிசய லிங்கத்தை!

தேவர்களுக்கு உகந்த சோமவாரம் அன்று!
தேவர்கள் வந்தனர் தேவதேவனைப் பூஜிக்க;
அருகில் நின்று பூஜைக்கு உதவி செய்யும்,
அருமையான பாக்கியம் அன்று வணிகனுக்கு!

நான்கு ஜாம பூஜைகளையும் அவன்
நன்கு கண்டு மெய்ப்புளகமடைந்தான்!
பிரியா விடை பெற்றான் மறுநாள்,
அரிதாகிய சிவலிங்கேஸ்வரரிடம்!

அரசனைக் கண்டு விண்டான் இந்த
அரிய செய்தியினை வணிகன் அன்றே!
அற்புதமான அந்த விருத்தாந்தத்தைக்
கற்பனை செய்ய முயன்றான் மன்னன்!

நள்ளிரவில் கண்டான் உறக்கத்தில்,
நல்லதொரு கனவு குலசேகர மன்னன்;
சித்தர் ஒருவர் அவன் கனவில் வந்து,
இத்தகையதோர் ஆணை விதித்தார்!

"திருத்தி அமைப்பாய் கடம்பவனத்தை!
திருநகர் ஒன்றினைச் சமைத்திடுவாய்!"
உறக்கம் கலைந்தது! கனவு முடிந்தது!
அரசவை கூடியது! பொழுது புலர்ந்ததும்.

மதி மந்திரிகள் தன்னைப் புடைசூழ,
விதிக்கு அஞ்சாத ஞானியர்களுடன்,
மேற்கு நோக்கிச் சென்ற அம்மன்னன்
அற்புத இந்திர விமானத்தைக் கண்டான்.

பொற்றாமரைப் பொய்கையில் நீராடி,
பொன்னர் மேனியன் லிங்க ரூபத்தைக்
கண்ணால் கண்டவன் பக்தி மேலிட்டால்,
மண்ணில் அங்கேயே தங்கி விட்டான்!

"அடுத்துச் செய்ய வேண்டியது என்ன?
எடுத்த காரியத்தை முடிப்பதெப்படி?
இறைவன் கருணையுடன் முன்வந்து
சரியான வழி காட்டிட வேண்டும்!"

3 (a). KULASEKARA PAANDIYAN.

Kulasekara Paandiyan was a just king. He ruled with Manavoor as his capital city, situated to the east of Kadambavanam. Dhananjayan was a good merchant living in Manavoor. He was a staunch devotee of Lord Siva.

Once he went on a business to a city to the west of Manavoor. When he returned it was night fall. He decided to spend the night in safety and entered Kadambavanam.

He saw the extraordinary Vimaanam presented by Indra. When he went closer he saw the Sivalingam in the temple.

It was a Somavar-the auspicious day for Siva pooja. Devas came down to worship Sivalingam. Dhananjayan got the rare opportunity of helping the Devas in performing the pooja which lasted all night.Next morning Dhananjayan returned home.

He could not contain his excitement. He shared the rare news with King Kulasekaran. The King was equally thrilled and tried to imagine the pooja performed by Devas in the temple. He went to sleep and had an unusual dream that night.

In his dream a siddha purusha appeared. He instructed the king to build a city around the temple in Kadmbavanam. The next morning the king shared his unusual dream with the ministers and the pundits of his court.

They all left westwards and saw the Indra Vimaanam.The king was moved to the core by the sight of the Sivalingam and the Pond of Golden Lotuses.

They all took a holy dip in the pond, performed pooja to Lord Siva and awaited further instructions.

3 . ஆலவாய் கண்டது.

3 (b). மதுராபுரி.

காடு கெடுத்து அதை நாடாக்குவதும்,
மேடு கெடுத்து சமநிலம் ஆக்குவதும்,
விளையாட்டல்லவே! கடின வேலைகள்!
சளைக்காமல் செய்தனர் பணியாளர்கள்!

உழைத்தனர் இரவு பகல் பாராமல்,
தழைத்தன மன்னனின் ஆணைகள்!
அழிக்கப்பட்டது அந்த அடர்ந்த காடு!
அழகிய பரப்பு ஆகிவிட்டது சமநிலம்.

சித்தர் தோன்றினார் அத்தன் கனவில்!
"சித்திர நகரினை அமைப்பாய் நீ இங்கு,
சிவாகமத்தின் வழியே தோன்றிய
சிற்ப சாஸ்திரத்தைப் பயன் படுத்தி!"

ஆலயம், மண்டபம், கோபுரம் கொண்ட,
அழகிய நகரினை அமைக்க வேண்டிய
அனைத்து விதிகளையும் அறிவித்தபின்,
அண்ணல் மறைந்தார் மன்னன் கனவில்.

சங்கமித்தனர் அங்கே புகழ் பெற்ற,
தங்க நகரை அமைக்க சிற்ப வல்லுநர்;
முன்னர் கோவிலை அமைத்துவிட்டு,
பின்னர் கோவில் நகரை அமைத்தனர்.

அரசனுக்கு ஓர் அழகிய அரண்மனை,
அரிய வடகிழக்கு திசையினிலே;
அற்புத நகரம் உருவான பின்னர்
அதற்கு சாந்தி செய்ய வேண்டுமே!

அதற்கும் அண்ணலே உதவி புரிந்தார்!
அளவுக்கு அடங்காத தன் சடைமேல்,
அமர்ந்துள்ள சந்திர கலையினைச் சற்று
அசைக்கவே கசிந்தது அதன் அமுதம்!

அமுதத் துளிகள் விரைந்து பரவி,
அமலமாக்கிவிட்டன அந்நகரினை !
அமுதக் கசிவினால் புனிதமானதால்
அமலன் விதித்த நகர் பெயர் மதுராபுரி!

The king's men worked day and night! They cut down the trees in Kadambavanam and leveled the ground, in order to build a new city there.The King was waiting for further instructions from God.

The same Siddha purusha appeared in the King's dream once again. He told the king to build the new temple city according to the concepts of Sivaagama. Famous architects and sthapthis were brought there immediately.

The temple was constructed with gopurams and mandapams. The city sprawled around the the temple. A palace was constructed for the king in the North eastern part of the city.

Once the city was ready for occupation, it needed to be purified. The king prayed to lord Siva. Lord shook the crescent moon on His head. A few drops of Amrutham spilled down from the moon.These drops spread throughout the city and purified it.

Since the city was purified by the sweet nectar, it was named as Madurapuri. [/FONT]

4. தடாதகை அவதாரம்.

மதுராபுரியினை மாண்புற அமைத்த
மன்னன் குலசேகரனின் மைந்தன்,
மலையத்துவசன் என்னும் மன்னன்
மாறாப் புகழ் பெற்று விளங்கியவன்.

மனு நீதிப்படி விளங்கியது ஆட்சி;
இனிய சொற்களே அவனது மாட்சி;
வெற்றியும், கருணையும் பெற்றவன்;
முற்றிலும் நற்றவம் பேணியவன்.

சூரிய குலத்தின் சூரியன் போன்ற
சூரசேனனின் அருமை மகளைக்
கடிமணம் புரிந்தான் காஞ்சனமாலையை,
அடிகளைத் தொடரும் அன்பு மனைவியை.

மனக்குறை ஒன்று வாட்டிவதைத்தது,
மனம் களிக்கும்படி ஒரு மகனில்லையே!
பல அசுவமேத யாகங்கள் செய்தான்;
பால் மணம் மாறா பாலகனைப்பெற!

நூறு யாகங்கள் மன்னன் செய்தால்
தீரும் தன் இந்திரப் பதவி என்றஞ்சி,
மனம் பதைத்த இந்திரன் விரைந்து
மன்னனுக்கு அறிவுரை தந்தான்.

புத்திரனைபெறச் செய்யவேண்டியது
புத்திர காமேஷ்டி யாகம் என்பதை,
மலையத்துவச மன்னனிடம் கூறி
இமையோருலகம் சென்றான் அவன்.

புத்திர காமேஷ்டி யாகம் செய்தால்
உத்திரவாதம் உத்தம மகன் என்று,
யாகம் செய்தவனுக்குக் கிடைத்தது
யாககுண்டத்திலிருந்து ஒரு குழந்தை!

மூன்று வயதுப் பெண் குழந்தையாக,
முத்துமாலைகள் , வளைகள் குலுங்க
மூவுலகின் அன்னை உமாதேவியார்
மூன்று தனங்களுடன் வெளிப்பட்டாள்.

கோரியதோர் ஆண் மகன் அரசாள!
சீரிய பெண்குழந்தை! மூன்றுதனங்கள்!
விசன மன்னனின் செவிகளில் விழுந்தது
அசரீரி ஒன்று மகேசன் அருளால் அன்று.

"மகனைப் போலவே மகளை வளர்ப்பாய்!
தடாதகைப் பிராட்டி எனப் பெயரிட்டு!
மகன் கற்க வேண்டியதெல்லாம் உன்
தடாதகைக்கும் நீ கற்றுத் தருவாய்!

தகுந்த கணவனை அவள் கண்டதுமே
மிகுந்திருக்கும் இருதனங்கள் மட்டுமே!"
மகேசன் ஆணைகளால் மனஅமைதி
மலையத்துவச பாண்டிய மன்னனுக்கு!

புராணங்கள், வேதங்கள், ஆய கலைகள்,
பரியேற்றம், கரியேற்றம், தேரோட்டம்
வேல், வாள், வில் அம்புப்பிரயோகம் என
வேல் விழியாள் கற்றாள் அனைத்தையும்.

தகுந்த பிராயம் அடைந்த மகளுக்கு
மகுடம் சூட்டி மகிழ்ந்தான் மன்னன்.
கன்னி அரசி செங்கோலோச்சினாள்,
கன்னி நாடு ஆயிற்று மதுராபுரியும்!

Kulasekara Paandiyan's son was the famous king Malaydhwajan.He ruled the country in a just manner.He married Kanchanamaalai, the beautiful daughter of king Surasena of Sooriya Vamsa.

Like many other kings we keep reading about, this king also did not have any child! He wanted a strong son, who would rule the country after him. Malayadhwajan performed several Aswameda yaagam. If the King completed 100 aswameda yaagam, he would become the new Indra.

Indra advised the king to perform Putra kaameshti yaaagm instead. The King and Queen performed Putra kameshti and got a child from the yaaga kundam.

It was a beautiful three year old girl child adorned with pearls, bangles and many ornaments. She also had three breasts!

The king and queen were very upset that they got a daughter instead of a son and that too one with three breasts. Then they heard an asareeri (aakaashvani) by Lord Siva's grace.

" Bring up your daughter as you would, your son! Name her as Thadaathagai and teach her everything a king needs to know. When she meets the right person destined to wed her, her third breast will disappear!"

The girl was brought up like a prince rather than a princess.She learned Vedas, Puranas, 64 fine arts, horse riding, elephant riding, chariot riding and the mastery over all kinds of weapons of war.

When she attained the proper age, she was crowned and became the virgin queen of Maduraapuri.

# 5. தடாதகை திருமணம்.

5 (a). திக்விஜயம்.

கன்னி அரசியாக மனு நீதி தவறாமல்,
கன்னி நாட்டை ஆண்டாள் தடாதகை.
திருமணப் பருவம் நெருங்கியபோதும்,
திருமணம் குறித்து எண்ணமே இல்லை!

அரசியின் கவனம் முழுவதும் அன்று
அரசாட்சி, படை மாட்சி, குடிவளமை!
"கொஞ்சும் இளமையில் நிகழுமா மணம்?"
அஞ்சினாள் அன்னை காஞ்சனமாலை.

"உரிய காலம் வரும்போது நான்
உரியவரை மணப்பேன் தாயே!
உலகை வெல்லும் நேரம் இது!
மலர்ந்த முகத்துடன் ஆசி கொடு!"

நான்கு வகைப் படைகளும் புறப்பட்டன.
நான்கு திசைகளிலும் புழுதி எழுப்பியபடி!
சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் வெற்றி வாகையே!
அன்னையை எதிர்த்து வெல்ல முடியுமா?

வடபுல மன்னர்கள் தோல்வியால் துவண்டு
தொடை நடுங்கினர் அன்னையின் முன்னர்!
ரத, கஜ, துரக, பதாதிகளைத் தங்கள்
பத காணிக்கை ஆக்கினர் அம்மன்னர்.

அடுத்த இலக்கு இந்திரப் பட்டணம்.
எடுத்தான் ஓட்டம் இந்திரன் அங்கிருந்து!
தேவமாதர், ஐராவதம், உச்சைசிரவஸ்,
காமதேனு, சிந்தாமணி, கற்பகத்தருவென;

அத்தனையும் கைப்பற்றினாள் அன்னை!
அஷ்ட திக்பாலகர்களும் சரண் புகுந்தனர்.
மிஞ்சி இருப்பது வெற்றி கொள்வதற்கு
பஞ்சுப் பொதியாம் பனிமலை கைலாசம்.

காண்பதற்கே அச்சம் தரும் பூதங்கள்!
மாண்புடைய சிவகணங்கள் ஆயிரம்!
இன்னலைத் தவிர்க்க ஓடிப் போயின.
அன்னையை எதிர்க்க யாரால் முடியும்?

"என்ன விபரீதம் இது?" என மயங்கி,
அண்ணலிடம் விண்ணப்பித்தான் நந்தி;
"அஞ்சவேண்டாம் நந்திகேச்வர! இன்னமும்
மிஞ்சியுள்ளோம் நானும் நீயும்!" என்றார்!

காளை வாஹனம் ஏறி, ஆயுதங்கள் தாங்கி,
ஆளை மயக்கும் அழகிய நங்கையின் முன்
அற்புத வீரராக வந்து நின்றார், பக்தர்களின்
சொற்பதம் கடந்த கைலாசநாதர் சிவபிரான்!

அன்னையை அண்ணலும் நோக்க,
அன்னையும் அண்ணலை நோக்க;
மறைந்தது மூன்றாவது ஸ்தனம்!
நிறைந்தது பெண்மையின் குணம்.

அச்சம், மடம், நாணம், பயிர்ப்பு என
மிச்சம் இல்லாது நாற்குணங்களும் சூழ,
தாமரை மலர் எனத் தன் முகம் சிவந்து,
தாமரைத் தண்டாய் நெகிழ்ந்தாள் தேவி!

5 (a). DIGVIJAYAM.

The virgin queen Thadaathagai ruled over Madhuraapuri very well. She had attained marriageable age but nothing was farther from her thoughts! She wanted to conquer all the three worlds.

Kanchanamaalai, her mother was worried that her daughter should get married soon.The virgin Queen left on a Digvijayam with her chaturanga sena.

The clouds of dust raised by the marching army made vision impossible. Nobody could stand and face the queen's invincible army.The kings of North India were defeated and ended up paying her heavy tributes and presenting her their own horses and elephants.

Queen's next target was Indralokam. Indra ran away in fright!. The queen took possession of all the wonderful things that belonged to Indra viz Airaavatham, Uchchaisravas, Kaamadenu, Sinthaamani, and Kapraga vruksham.

Ashtadig paalakaas surrendered to her. Her next target was Kailaash.The terrifying Sivaganaas fought valiantly but who could vanquish the Goddess Queen?

They ran away in fear. Nandi got worried watching these strange developments and reported them to Lord Siva.

Siva told him, We both are still here to face the army". He armed Himself with all his divine weapons, mounted on Nandhi and appeared before the queen herself.

The Lord and Devi saw each other. Immediately Devi's third breast disappeared making her a normal woman. She became feminine and shy like a real lady, all at once.

Her face blushed to resemble a fresh blooming lotus. Her legs became weak like the tender stems of lotus plants. She was no more the warrior queen who left on Digvijayam!

# 5. தடாதகை திருமணம்.

5 (b). தேவியின் திருமணம்.

"திக்விஜயத்தின் பொருட்டு நீ படையோடு
திக்குகள் அதிரப் புறப்பட்ட பொழுதிலிருந்தே,
பிரியாது உன்னையே தொடர்ந்து வருகின்றேன்,
தெரியாமல் உனக்கே என்னுடைய இன்னரசியே!

வேதங்கள் இயம்பியபடி உன்னை நான்
வதுவை புரிவேன் உன் மதுராபுரியிலே!
அடுத்த சோமவாரத்திலே நம் திருமணம்
நடக்கும் ஒரு சுப முஹூர்தத்திலேயே!"

விஞ்சும் வீராங்கனையாக திக்விஜயம் சென்று,
கொஞ்சும் குமரியாகத் திரும்பினாள் மதுராபுரி.
வழங்கினர் திருமண ஓலைகள் அரசர்களுக்கு!
முழங்கினர் திருமண முரசுகள், வாத்தியங்கள்!

எழில் கோலம் புனைந்து நின்றது அன்று
அழகிய மதுராபுரி நகரம் முழுவதுமே!
தெளித்தனர் வீதிகளில் பன்னீர், மலர்கள்!
குவித்தனர் வீதிகளில் நறுமணப் பொடிகள்!

பாவை விளக்குகள் கைகளில் தீபம் ஏந்தி,
சேவை புரிந்தன அழகிய வரிசைகளில்.
மலர்மாலைகள் குலுங்கின மணப்பந்தலில்,
மணி மலைகள் மிளிர்ந்தன மணப்பந்தலில்.

புண்ணிய நதிகளின் தண்ணிய நீரும்,
எண்ணிறந்த குடங்களில் வந்து சேர்ந்தன;
மண்ணிலுள்ளவர்கள் அனைவரும் அங்கு
கண் பெற்ற பயனைக் கண்கூடாக அடைந்தனர்.

திவ்வியமானதொரு திருமண மண்டபம்;
பவ்வியமான இரண்டு பளிங்கு யானைகள்;
பொன்னால் ஆன படிக்கட்டின் அருகிலே,
மின்னும் அழகுடன் மிளிர்ந்து நின்றன .

பளிங்குச் சுவர்களும், பவளத் தூண்களும்,
விளங்கிய மேல்நிலையில் சந்திரகாந்தம்;
நவ மணிகள் இழைத்த அழகிய பொன்னிருக்கை,
நவ மணமக்கள் அமர்ந்து மணம் புரிந்துகொள்ள.

அணிகலன்களையும், ஆடைகளையும்,
அணியத் தந்தது அற்புத கற்பகமரம்.
அறுசுவை உண்டியைக் குறைவின்றித்
தருவதற்கு இருந்தது அங்கே காமதேனு.

உவந்தவர்க்கு அவர் உவந்ததெல்லாம்
உவந்து அளித்தது சீரிய சிந்தாமணி.
விண்ணவர் உலகே நாணித் தலை குனிய
மண்ணுலக மதுராபுரி ஜொலித்தது அங்கே.

பொன்னுலகத்தினர் வந்து குவிந்தனர்;
மண்ணுலகத்தினரும் வந்து குழுமினர்;
குபேரன் கைகளாலேயே அலங்காரம்,
குவலயம் தொழும் சிவபெருமானுக்கு!

கலைமகளும், அலை மகளும் செய்தனர்
தலையாய அலங்காரம் மணமகளுக்கு!
இசைக்கருவிகள் இசைந்து ஒலிக்கவே,
இசைந்து மண்டபத்தில் அமர்ந்தனர் அவர்.

பாதபூஜை சிவனுக்கு மாலவன் கைகளால்!
வேதநாதமோ நான்முகன் வாய்மொழிகளால்!
பரந்தாமன் செய்வித்தான் பாணிக்ரஹணம்;
தாரையும் வார்த்தான் தன் தாமரைக்கையால்!

வந்தவர்க்கெல்லாம் வரிசை முறைப்படி
தந்தனர் பற்பல அரும் பரிசுப் பொருட்கள்;
சுந்தரமான ஆட்சி தொடங்கிவிட - சோம
சுந்தர பாண்டியன் ஆனான் நம் சிவபிரான்.

"I have been following you everywhere-ever since you left on digvijyam-unknown to you! I will marry you in Madhuraapuri on next Monday, as prescribed by the scriptures. Now go back and make all the wedding arrangements!". Siva spoke to Devi in this manner.

The now transformed queen was welcomed by her mother and her citizens with pomp and show. Messages were dispatched to all the kings announcing the forthcoming wedding.

Auspicious musical instruments were played. Madhuraapuri became better than Swargapuri! Rose water and fragrant flowers were sprinkled on all the streets. Sandal and other sweet smelling powders was heaped in the various places.

The paavai lamps stood in beautiful rows all over the city -giving light and presenting a pretty picture.The wedding mandapam was decorated with many flower garlands and haarams made of navarathnam.

Holy water from all the rivers were brought for abhishekham. Those who lived there on that day were blessed indeed and witnessed all the glorious things and events.

The wedding mandapam was unusual. Two marble elephants stood on either side of the steps made of gold. The walls were made of marble, the pillars were made of corals and the top portion was made of Chandra kaantham. A gold aasanaa studded with navaratna was placed for the new couple to sit on.

Karpaga vruksham gave everyone fine dresses and ornaments. Kaamadenu gave all kinds of tasty foods worthy of such a wedding. Chinthaamani gave everyone everything they wished for. Swargam was put to shame by the glory of Madhuraapui.

Kuberan-the god of wealth- decorated Lord Siva while Lakshmi Devi and Saraswathi Devi decorated the bride.
The musical instruments started playing melodiously.

Lord Vishnu performed the Paada puja for Lord Siva. Brahma chanted the Vedic manthraas.Vishnu presented Devi's hand to Siva for Paani Grahanam and performed the Dhaaraa also.

The divine marriage was completed. All the guests were presented with gifts befitting their greatness.They were treated with the exquisite wedding feast.

Lord Siva now became the King Sundara Paandian and started ruling over Madhuraapuri. [/FONT]

6. வெள்ளியம்பலக்கூத்து.

திருமணத்திற்கு வந்திருந்தவர்கள்
அருந்தவ முனிவர், பெருநில மன்னர்;
அமுது செய்து அருளுமாறு சிவன் வேண்ட,
தமது நியம நிஷ்டைகளைச் செய்யலாயினர்.

பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் சென்று நீராடித்
தத்தம் நியமங்களை முடித்து வந்தனர்;
விருந்துண்ண அனைவரும் விரைந்தபோது,
வியாக்ரபாதர், பதஞ்சலி தயங்கி நின்றனர்!

"பொன்னம்பலத் திரு நடனம் காணாமல்
அன்னம் புசியோம் நாங்கள் அரசர்க்கரசே!
பொன்னார் மேனியர் நீரே கூறும் எமக்கு,
என்ன செய்வதென்று யாம் அறிகிலோம்!"

"பொன்னம்பலத் திரு நடனத்தை நீவீர்
மன்னுபுகழ் மதுராபுரியிலேயே காண்பீர்!
முன்னர் தோன்றி விட்டதால் மதுராபுரி,
உன்னர்க்கரிய துவாதசாந்த ஸ்தானம்.

திருவாரூர் அமையும் உலகளாவிய
விராட் புருஷனது மூலாதாரமாக!
திருவானைக்காவே சுவாதிஷ்டானம்,
திருவண்ணாமலை மணிபூரகம் ஆகும்.

தில்லையம்பதி அவனது அனாஹதம்,
திருக்காளஹஸ்தியே அவனது விசுத்தி;
காசியே விராட்புருஷனது ஆக்ஞை;
கயிலையே அவனது பிரமரந்திரம்."

இரு பெரு முனிவரும் சிவபெருமானும்,
அருகிலிருந்த திருக்கோவிலில் நுழைய,
இறைவனின் இச்சாசக்தியால் தோன்றியது
இந்திர விமானத்தின் கீழ் வெள்ளியம்பலம்!

மாணிக்கப்பீடம் கம்பீரமாக காட்சிதர,
ஆணிப்பொன் மேனியர் பீடத்தின் மேல்
காணர்க்கரிய அழகிய திருநடனம் ஆட,
கண்டு களித்தனர் அருந்தவ முனிவர்கள்.

கணத்தில் தோன்றின சிவகணங்கள்!
கணக்குடன் ஒலித்தது தண்ணுமை.
நந்திகேஸ்வரருடைய மத்தள வாத்யம்,
பின்னிப் பிணைந்தது தண்ணுமையோடு!

திருமால் முழக்கினர் அழகிய இடக்கை,
பிரமன் மனைவி சுருதி கூட்டி ஒலிக்க,
தும்புரு, நாரதர் இசைத்தனர் கீதங்கள்,
என்புருகும் ஓர் அற்புதத் தாண்டவம்!

வலக்கைகள் ஐந்தில் பற்றி இருந்தார்
சூலம், உடுக்கை, அம்பு, வாள், மழு!
இடக்கைகள் ஐந்தில் பற்றி இருந்தார்
விடநாகம், தீ, வில், கேடயம், கதை.

திரு நீலகண்டம், வெண்ணீற்று மேனி;
விரித்த சடைக்கற்றை, சங்குக்குண்டலம்,
கமல நயனங்கள் கருணை மழை பொழிய,
கச்சை ஆனது ஒரு கொடிய விஷ நாகம்.

மந்திரம், வேதம், தீச்சுடர் , சிலம்புகள்,
கங்கையுடன் அங்கு கலந்து ஒலித்திட,
"என்ன வரம் வேண்டும் உமக்கு?" என்று
பொன்னார் மேனியன் முனிவரை வினவ,

"இந்த வரம் ஒன்று தருவாய் இறைவா!
இந்த நடனம் என்றும் நிலைத்து நின்று,
பந்தபாசம் விலக்கவேண்டும் அன்பரின்!"
அந்தவரமே தந்தான் சுந்தரபாண்டியசிவன்.

When the guests were invited for the wedding feast, they wanted to finish their daily nishtaa and niyamaa. They went to the Pond of golden lotuses and performed their nithya karmaa.

When everyone left to eat the feast, two maharishis Patanjali and Vyaagra Paadaa were hesitating. They told the Lord, "We never take food without witnessing your dance at Ponnambalam. Please tell us what to do now?"

The Lord replied, "You may witness the dance performed at Ponnambalam now and here in Madhuraapuri itself. This is the dwaadasaantha sthaanam of the cosmic Viraat Purushan.

Thiruvaroor is His Moolaadhaaram; Thiruvaanaika is His Swathishtaanam; Thiruvannaamalai is His Manipooragam; Thillaiyambathi is His Anaahatham, Thirukkaalahasthi is His Agnai. Kailaash is His Bramaranthram."

The two rushis entered the temple with Lord Siva. Lord's icchaa skakti made a Velliyambalam appear beneath the Indra Vimaanam A dais of carbuncle stood there very majestically. Lord Siva did His thaandavaa on the dais.

Sivaganas appeared instantly.They started playing drums.
Nandhi played his mruthangam in accordance with their drums. Saraswathi played on her veena.Thumburu and Narada sang melodious songs. The divine dance was a feast both for the eyes and the ears.

Siva held in His five right hands a Trisoolam, a damaroo, an arrow, a sword and the mazhu. In His five left hands He held, a poisonous cobra, the fire, a bow, a shield and a mace.

The sound of Mantraas, Vedas, fire, anklets, and flowing Ganges merged and mesmerized.The God was pleased with the rushis and wanted to bestow a boon on them.

"This dance must be permanent here. Those who witness this must be freed from all kinds of bondage by your divine grace!"

Sundara Paandiya Sivan happily agreed to this proposal. [/FONT]

திருவிளையாடல்கள். முதற்பகுதி. மதுரைக்காண்டம்.

7. பூதத்துக்கு அன்னம் இட்டது.

மாதவர்களுக்கும், மறையவர்களுக்கும்,
மாநில மன்னர்களுக்கும் அளித்தனர்;
அறுசுவை உணவு, தளிர்த்த தாம்பூலம்,
ஆபரணங்கள், அழகிய பட்டாடைகள்!

ஐம்பத்து ஆறு தேசத்து அதிபர்களும்
சம்பத்துக்களுடன் பிரியாவிடை பெற;
சமையல் வேலை செய்தவர்கள் நல்ல
சமயம் பார்த்து விண்ணப்பித்தனர்.

"அருமையான உணவுப்பொருட்களில்
ஆயிரத்தில் ஒரு பங்கே உண்ணப்பட்டது!
பனி மலை போலக் குவிந்துள்ள உணவை
இனி என்ன செய்வது எனத் தெரியவில்லை!

முப்பத்து முக்கோடி தேவர்களும் இங்கு
தப்பாது விருந்து உண்ணுவார்கள் என்று
எண்ணிச் சமைத்த உணவுப் பொருட்கள்
அண்ணலே! வீணாகிப் போக விடலாமா?"

சிறு நகை புரிந்தார் நம் சிவபெருமான்!
"ஒரு பூதத்துக்கு முன்பு உணவளியுங்கள்.
மிகுந்த உணவைப் புசிப்பதற்கு ஒரு
தகுந்த ஏற்பாட்டைச் செய்கின்றேன்!

திருக்குடை ஏந்தும் சிறுகால் பூதத்திற்கு
ஒரு பிடி சோறு கொடுங்கள்!" என்று கூறி,
வடவாக்னியையே பூதத்தின் வயிற்றில்
ஜடராக்னியாகப் நுழையச் செய்துவிட்டார் !

"எடுத்தது கண்டனர், இற்றது கேட்டனர்!"
என்பார் ராமன் வில்லை முறித்த போது!
அமர்ந்தது பூதம் உணவுமலை முன்பு!
அடுத்த வினாடி உணவுமலை இல்லை!

உண்டதும் தெரியவில்லை எவருக்கும்,
கண்டதும் புரியவில்லை எவருக்கும்;
மலை போலக் குவிந்திருந்த உணவு,
சிலை போல அமர்ந்தவன் வயிற்றினுள்!

காய், கறிகள், பசும் பால், தயிர், தேன்,
நெய், கனிவகைகள், தேங்காய், அரிசி,
தானிய வகைகள் என்னும்படி பூதம்
இனி எதுவுமே மிச்சம் வைக்கவில்லை!

வெந்தது, வேகாதது என்றும் பாராமல்
எந்த வேறுபாடும் இல்லாது விழுங்கியது!
"ஒரு பூதம் போதுமா! உண்பதற்கு இன்னும்
ஒரு பூதம் கூடத் இங்கு தேவைப்படுமா?"

கண்டதெல்லாம் உண்ட பின்னரும்
மண்டிய பசி தீரவில்லை பூதத்துக்கு!
அய்யனிடம் சென்று சரண் புகுந்தது
செய்வதே என்னவென்று அறியாமலே!

The rushis, brahmins, kings of the 56 countries were treated to a rich feast.They were presented with appropriate gifts, thaamboolam, finest silk and fine gold ornaments. Everyone who had attended the wedding, took leave.

The kitchen staff had a cause for concern. Only one thousandth of the food prepared had been consumed by all the guests. What was to be done with the left over food items, which were heaped into small mountains? Did they have to be wasted in totality?

Siva smiled and said, "First of all you feed Gundotharan - who holds my umbrella! If more food is left over after he finishes eating, I will come up with another plan! "

He made the Vadavaagni enter into the stomach of the bootham as Jataraagni. The bootham became terribly hungry!

He sat in front of the food heap and everything vanished in a trice-without a trace! There is a famous quotation about Sree Rama breaking the Siva Dhanus.

It goes thus, "The people who had gathered there saw Sree Rama pick up the bow and heard the thunderous noise made by the bow as it broke into two pieces!"

In a similar manner people saw the bootham sit there and the next instant nothing was left of the heaps of food. But his hunger was not appeased! So the Sivaganam continued to eat all the vegetable, milk, curds, honey, ghee, fruits, coconuts, rice and grains!

He had polished off all the cooked food and the raw food materials indiscriminately.

Even then his hunger was not satisfied! He went and prayed to Lord Siva to satisfy his hunger![/FONT]
