2#3a. Mahaabishan
Mahaabishan was a famous king in Ikshvaaku vamsa. He performed one thousand Aswameda yaaga and one hundred Vaajpeya yaaga. As a result he became the Indra and lived a life of endless pleasures in the Heaven.
He visited Brahma one day. Ganga Devi was also present there along with many others. Breeze blew off her sari. Everyone there felt uneasy and turned away their eyes – but not Mahaabishan. He kept staring at Ganga Devi unashamed.
Ganga Devi too stared back at him with desire written openly in her eyes. They both forgot that they were in a sabha filled with many more Deva.
Brahma noticed this shameful behavior and cursed them thus!
” You were overcome by lust in a sabha filled with many Deva. May you be born on earth and human beings and enjoy the pleasure you desired so badly.
Earn puNya by your good deeds and after the effect of the curse wears out you may return to the swarggam.”
Both Ganga and Mahaabishan felt crestfallen and left the place. They had to be born on the earth – but where and to whom?
Purooravan was a good king and Pradeepan who was born in his lineage was also very good and famous. Mahaabishan decided to be born as a son of the King Pradeepan.
