Think or sink!

A man was walking bare feet carrying behind him

- over his shoulders - a plastic bag as tall as him

filled with .... I know not what!

He could have been Santa Claus doing his rounds two months earlier -

if he were dressed in bright red costume and had a flowing silver beard!

But this man was dressed in rags and his treasure probably

consisted of what he had picked from the street in umpteen days.

"Sura manthira tharu moola nivaasam:

does not make a person get detached!!! :nono:

He clings to filth instead of to wealth

since filth is his only wealth now!!! :tsk:

The other person I met was our ex-watchman.

His name is Anbarasu and he lived true to his name.

Any emergency, any help needed anywhere by anyone

he would there to help as if by a rare instinct.

The whole colony misses him a lot!

He left since he has a self esteem which was

being constantly tested by the then magaLir-aNi.

He found a better job, with a better pay,

with better living conditions and with better dignity.

Even bad intentions actually promote

the people with good intentions! :thumb:

I saw a slogan in a mod mad shop

(of course from outside the shop)

It read "Just be!"

Too good to be displayed in such a shop.

It would have made more sense spiritually

if it conveyed this golden message

"Don't become! Just be!!"

Namaste Visalakshi ji,

Whereas in the world of schools and colleges, one's intelligence determines the level of success and fame, in office situations, it is purely one's work ability/hard work that determines success. I have observed this with many people. Even those of average IQ can succeed, say as a Programmer, if they are able to invest that much time for finishing the project within the deadline. I have practically observed the managers in many situations just brushing aside values such as code needing to be according to standards, etc, if they deem the worker as otherwise hard-working able to work extra 2 hrs (unpaid) as and when needed, and will be available to work in the weekends too. Even those of average IQ, over exposure to the code for sometime, pick it up and therefore hard working ability far outweighs the merits of a top IQ, except for advanced scientific applications. This is my observation.

Cheers,

Jayashree

JR ji,

A poor skill level may be acceptable at a low level. Such people do not rise in the hierarchy because it is a ruthless competition in which the less able are mercilessly filtered out and held back to find their own level of inefficiency to settle down-Peter's principle. An algorithm which is badly written and hence takes just one nanosecond more at the time of execution may add up to several seconds when in a programme the piece is repeated several times. And that is easily found out and the techie who coded it suffers.

Average IQ is ok at lower levels. But as higher and higher levels are crossed it is the razor thin sharpness that is rewarded.

It was a POS software. My client in Canada complained that once the transaction was keyed in, the cash drawer opened up one tad of a second later and she was unhappy with that delay. I asked one of my best techies to take a look at the script. He tweaked it. And lo the problem was solved. The client came on the line and gleefully thanked me for that. And that was the difference between the man who originally wrote that script and the man who tweaked it. Yes. You are right. In an advanced scientific application nanoseconds matter in a far bigger way. A rocket motor firing one nano second later may mean a series of correcting maneuvers to bring it back to the planned trajectory. LOL.

Dear Mrs Visalakshi Ramani,

Namaste,
Here is a beautiful poem of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi, that I wish to share.

I am the dust in the sunlight,
I am the ball of the sun . . .
I am the mist of morning, the breath of evening. . . .
I am the sparkle in the stone,
The gleam of gold in the metal. . .
The rose and nightingale drunk with the fragrance
I am the chain of being the circle of spheres
The scale of creation, the rise and the fall
I am what is and is not. . .
I am the soul in all
(Rumi)

Warm Regards,

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

What does it matter where a message is displayed?
Whether in the cradle or in the grave or anywhere in between.
Arjuna only saw the target..not the leaves or branches in its way,
Be focused on the message to know what it really means.

Dear Sir,

Namaste! :pray2:

Who can define Aatman better than RUMI

despite being NOT a Hindu???

Atman IS smaller than an atom (dust)

it IS bigger than the world (the ball of the Sun)

The sparkling-diamond-like-dew-drops which

leave a lasting impression though they disappear fast

and the gentle breeze fresh air in the evening

the gleam of the gold (just like the heat of the fire,

the coolness of water and the smell of the first rain drops on the earth).

The best line is I am what is and What is not! :clap2:

It exists for those who believe in it and it does not for the non believers.

I wish to read the original poem - if possible in Hindi script.

P.S.

My YOGA GURU used to say this wonderful thing.

Man thinks that the huge body supports the minute Aatman.

But actually the minute invisible Aatman supports the huge, heavy body.

The proof???

The moment the Aatman takes off.... the body falls down!!!

Dear Renu,

I just saw the picture a young hunk in a brief as we passed by the shop.

I could just read the message and could not remember the name of the shop.

I will read the name of the shop instead of the message when I pass by the shop next time! :)

Money flows like water (used to do in the past)

in marriages even now - at the spiraling cost of food stuff!

The crowd in the dining hall is amazing.

I bet one-third of the diners belonged to

neither the groom's side nor the bride's side.

Who can know the strangers anyway.

Each party will imagine that they belong to the other party! :hungry:

I wish they introduce the concept of Wedding registry in India soon.

People CAN present even fancy cars by paying for the component parts

according to their own budget in countries USA.

The couple leave a list of articled required by them with one of the famous stores.

The gifts in the list are given by the friends and family.

So the newlyweds never end up with half a dozen wall clocks and / or thermos flasks!

Bridal registry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is more auspicious and more sensible to have a large lamp lit brightly

and placed in a glass box on the stage during the wedding ceremony.

Even if the power fails suddenly the place will not become pitch dark!

More so for people who believe in omens and Sakunam.

Half the people who attend the weddings are those

who SHOULD never venture out of their homes

for various reasons and health problems.

But they are all there - each one catching one or support! :)

I saw a pretty 14 year old girl in the crowd.

She had the most wonderful smile on her lips

and such a serene expression on her face-

unlike any other teenager of the modern times.

Her name is Paarvati. I wonder who will be

the lucky Siva who will win her hand!!!

We were served a welcome drink - a clear green fragrant liquid.

I have seen fruit juices in shades of pink, red, purple and orange but green color was new to me!

It turned out to be the mint lemon juice - very refreshing and with just enough sweetness.

The girl who served it - wearing the tall cap of a chef - was equally interesting.

Sh had two front teeth missing and two others fractured.

They ruined her lovely smile and looks.

I told her to get her teeth fixed since she will look very beautiful then.

She became shy and told me her marriage has been fixed in the near future.

I told her it will be all the more reason for her to attend to her teeth.

I asked her whether she lost them in an accident or a fall.

She said she fought with her mother on the cot, fell down and broke her teeth!

I can't help wondering what was in store for the poor young man who will wed her soon!!!:tsk:

I had a classmate in high school.

His nick name was Lady Pazhaniswamy.

He had something feminine about him!

I met another such boy in the wedding hall

The elaborate Maakkolam on the floor looked like

a giant lace spread flat and tight on the floor.

It was created by a BOY!

He too had something feminine about the way he stood and walked.

Was it the reason for his rare talent or

did the talent change him to become more feminine?? :noidea:

I assumed that he must have drawn concentric circles in the beginning

to help him decide the sizes of the various petals and frills.

But the next day I got to watch him in action.

He started with nothing to help him or guide him

and worked on with amazing speed and skill.

A kolam of this size will need more than on woman to draw

and also ruin their spine in the long run!

There were two mamis in their 70s and 60s.

They cold have been the correspondents of a TV channel.

They handled the I phone with amazing skill.

Photos were taken and sent on hotline to the

other family members who missed the fun! WOW!!!
