Village camaraderie in crowd funding to conduct marriage on occasions such as demonetisation when people are not able to withdraw their money to conduct functions already planned comes to the rescue of the sufferer. This can be taken as a model for other areas as well who are in a tight situation. A good precedence to emulte.

Our heartfelt sympathies to all those patients whom this doctor is treating. A doctor with a glowing cigar in his hand is unfit to advice his patient not to smoke. The doctor should be an example to emulate on issues of health and if he himself sets bad example, he is more dangerous than the disease which he treats. Strict action should be taken against such doctors who pose danger to their patients

8 injured in Ohio State University shooting incident; shooter shot dead News
This is a terrorism of a sort. It is unfortunate that when the entire world is engaged in fighting against terrorism, in US gun culture is thriving with youths killing or injuring innocents by shooting at random. This probably has happened for the 'n 'th time in Universities. This is no different from the mad Islamic or Jihadi terrorism which should be arrested. The only way seems to be to declare holding a gun as a private property is a serious offence and imprison those who keep it illegally with them. Before arresting terrorism in the world, it should begin at home.

While the cyclone is welcome for the water starved city and state, I wish that there is no repeat of last November December disaster and the government takes enough precautionary measures to avert danger to people and their property without waiting for the worst to hsppen. At the same time, it is an equally responsible job of the government to preserve as much of water as possible during the rainy season without inconveniencing the public . Last year we had a one a in hundred year old deluge, but today the water situation of the city is not anything enviable. We need a better Water and disaster management system. The city drainage and storage systems need lot of improvement to prevent people from getting into tantrums, troubles and turbulance.

Play national anthem in all cinemas before film screening: Supreme Court. News

It is regrettable that Supreme Court has to say that our country's national anthem should be played in theatres. It is a matter of great shame that we Indians have to be reminded of our duty to respect our national anthem. To my knowledge, in no other country this happens. It is not enough if SC orders this, but in its true letter and spirit, this order must be followed. We have several instances of courts intervening in the normal rules of the land for its implementation. We have examples of people asked to wear helmets and auto-rickshaws collecting only the metered fare. I won't be surprised, if tomorrow, court directs people to pay for what they purchase or eat and ask the police to enforce the rules! Only under fear of punishment, our people are willing to obey laws. Some years back, theatres were playing National Anthem at the end of the show, but people showed scant respect for the same and the move was given up. Even today in many of the public functions, it is the national anthem that suffers all humility. For the present order of the SC also, I am afraid, the same fate awaits. If not obeyed, what is the punishment? If punished, a very big hue and cry will be raised by vested interests saying that their fundamental freedom is lost. And this law also should not go the way of the other rules which are flagrantly violated with pleasure. Will there be an effective follow up? Will it meet the same fate as that of the helmet or the auto fares? Indianness, that is the feeling of being Indian is not there, even among political parties, not to speak of individuals. We as a nation are proud of calling ourselves as Tamils, Telugus, Malayalis, Biharis, Bengalis and so on and very rarely, only when and where it is absolutely necessary, we recognise the fact that we are Indians. It is necessary that every Indian within heart of hearts should feel that he is an Indian First and everything next. This feeling should cone from within, otherwise it becomes just a show. I wish the present SC order is strictly complied with in its true spirit and obeyed and I don't want this to be my wishful thinking.

The people of Chennai and Cuddalore who were the worst affected by the last year's deluge are yet to recover from the tantrums, agonies and the losses they suffered snd are naturally deeply worried over the impact of the latest cyclone Nada The news that it has weakened into a depression has come very much as a relief to all of them. But it should not lead to lethargy on the part of the administration to slacken and relax in their efforts to avert disaster in the coming days. November -December being the season , many more such depressions and cyclones may be expected and therefore without waiting for the worst to happen, necessary steps should be taken to safeguard the life and properties of all those who are likely to be affected. I do not know whether any lessons have been learnt from the last year's disaster, but it is necessary to be doubly vigilant and on guard in the ensuing months. I am hopeful that except for the usual inconveniences which our people suffer during monsoons, this year they may not face any additional threat of a nature previously experienced. The corporation and PWD should gear up to meet any eventualities on a short term and a long term basis and people should also cooperate in not dumping solid wastes in manholes and drains and clogging them resulting in back flows in sewers even after slight drizzles, whether it is a monsoon or no monsoon.

Money goes non-veg?

Hindu groups in UK call for withdrawal of 'non-veg' 5-pound note.

A petition titled 'Remove tallow from bank notes' has gathered nearly 126,000 signatures. It will be delivered to the Bank of England when it hits 150,000.

It reads, "The new 5 pound notes contain animal fat in the form of tallow. This is unacceptable to millions of vegans and vegetarians in the UK. We demand that you cease to use animal products in the production of currency that we have to use."

A vegetarian cafe in the university town of Cambridge is refusing to accept the new notes and Sharon Meijland, owner of Rainbow Cafe, has put up signs warning customers about the policy.

"Tallow's an animal product isn't it? Our whole business is based around not having anything like that on the premises. Although the same person doesn't handle the money that handles the food, that's not really the point," she said.

The Bank of England says it is now looking into ways of removing the substance from the supply chain.

Unknown facts about India

"India is, the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only." These are not our words. These are the words of the great Mark Twain. And here are Indians facts to support his statement:

In prisons, ‘cell’ phones help criminals run their gangs. News

For the affluent and well-connected jailbird, incarceration can come with all mod-cons, including liquor, drugs and even visits to dance bars. Most importantly, he is allowed to stay in touch with his underlings with his own mobile phone.

Police officials, both serving and retired, say the first thing convicts from organised crime syndicates do behind bars is set up a system that allows them to get whatever they want. It seems the Central prison at Puzhal is a hub for illicit use of cell phones. This is going on for a long time unchecked and as you all may know this is the theme based on which most of the pictures and TV serials revolve round. It is a known secret that some of the jailers are hand in gloves with the criminals and this network seems to be many times more powerful than the police force. It is the power and money of the criminal that help to break open the cells and make criminals escape as it happened very recently when the leader of Khalistan escaped. Where the criminals have a strong political background, their contacts are even more powerful and widespread. In such cases, the criminals should be incarcerated in jails far away from the zone of their influence and a high vigilance is what is needed.

We all know the story of how squirrels got the stripes on their back because of the petting by Rama. Similar mythological stories are there ( I am referring to the story only, not Ramayana, the epic) in Africa for the stripes of zebras. However interesting they be, scientifically, it is said they provide protection to them from their predators, natural enemies and deadly insects. The article is interesting and if you have the time and the patience, you can go through it.

Why and how do zebras and squirrels get stripes?

I think we have to think seriously before switching over to cashless transactions and going digital. In my opinion there are many points to ponder over and the most important of them all is there are already more than 65% of the population who are illiterates and among the literates nearly 50% are compuilliterates. The cyber criminals seem to outbeat the computer scientists and engineers and have a high degree of expertise in hacking, phishing and so on. Not a day passes without our getting news about some account or other being hacked and we get frequent warnings from banks to change passwords and not to reveal your account numbers, passwords and pins. It is time that we look at both sides of the problem before venturing full fledged into it. Many people do not have computers and digital phones and therefore may not be able to use those facilities without the help of friends or relatives and therefore, the secrecy is lost raising scope for misuse. Until and unless cyber security is ensured and people become familiar with the use of the latest gadgets, there will be a looming uncertainty among people who want to go digital. There are a lot of confusions regarding passwords and the frequent change of the same which will make one feel very uneasy. If it is anything else, people can ignore it, but since this a question of their hard earning which is so vital for their day today existance, they can't afford to neglect this and therefore they have to be at the mercy of their people around. There is every possibility of their revealing their passwords and pins , but one may say that since they are all poor people, they have nothing to be afraid of from cyber criminals who are big money looters. That is not always true. Even small people face the danger of loosing whatever little they have. So digitalisation may need more time and for its success, we have to wait. Whether it is possible to make it fool proof is a moot austion. People have to be exposed to this technology before they are pushed into it.

Kabbadi, in all probability, is a folk sport and subsequently becomes popular.

How many European countries are playing this sport. Once European countries, Australia, New Zealand and other countries are serious about Hockey, India and Pakistan, once ruled the sport, are nowhere now. Similar condition may prevail if Kabbadi is spread to other nations.

I am extremely sorry to note that Thiru Cho Ramaswamy has passed away. I have been his fan and admirer from 1960s when I have seen every one of his dramas and have been closely following his growth. He is a multi faceted personality as all of us know. Closely following the death of his best friend Jayalalitha, he probably decided not to stay here anymore and wanted to be her guide even in the other world. This is yet another loss which Tamilnadu could not bear. I have been a regular follower of Thuglak from 1970 and we all will miss him very much. I don't know why Tamilnadu is punished like this. This is a double punishment for which Tamilnadu is not prepared.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE

HC about Triple Talaq

"The instant divorce [triple talaq] though has been deprecated and not followed by all sects of Muslim community in the country, however, is a cruel and the most demeaning form of divorce practised by the Muslim community at large. Women cannot remain at the mercy of the patriarchal setup held under the clutches of sundry clerics having their own interpretation of the holy Quran. Personal laws of any community cannot claim supremacy over the rights granted to individuals by the Constitution," the court said.
"Personal loss of any community cannot claim superiority over the rights grated to individuals by the constitution", This needs to be highlighted and made applicable for all communities.

Cho is just one month and one day senior to me. I have been closely following him from 1959 when he was not well known to the outside world. I have seen everyone of his dramas, but his first few dramas did not impress me. His Sambhavami Yuge Yuge drama was banned by the then TN C M Bhakthavatsalam, that made that drama immediately popular. Then he started writing more political satires and started playing roles in pictures which made him more popular and the climax of all is his drama Muhammad Bin Thuglak, which was a superhit as a drama which later on was made into a picture. Since Thuglak introduced him to the world in a big way, he ventured to start the biweekly magazine Thuglak to start with and later on because of its high popularity made it weekly, the only magazine, I think in the entire world which does not believe in sustaining on ads. Hats off to him. He has been my friend ,philosopher and guide ever since then and his loss is to me a very very personal loss, even though I have seen him several times at close quarters, but could not get an opportunity to talk to him.

I do not know whether printing counterfeit plastic notes is impossible. But it seems they have tried in Australia, canada. Singapore and other countries. I understand that it can be as thin as then paper currency. It is true its shelf life is more. Will it really be counterfeit-proof? Personally, I welcome a clean plastic note compared to a soiled dirty paper note responsible for transmission of several diseases on the hope that this plastic note can be cleaned with soap and hence is safer.
