After nearly 115 years, the marriage between two giant tortoises Bibi and Poldi appears to be ending towards divorce?
At the Happ Reptile Zoo in Kalgenfurt, Austria, the two turtles have suddenly developed a frosty relationship. Bibi has repeatedly attacked Poldi, biting off a piece of his shell during one attack. The zoo has called in experts to counsel the pair. Said zoo chief: "We are trying to engage the two to interact, and we hope that they might find their harmony again."
If these turtles can’t make it work, what hope do the rest of us have? Bibi and Poldi have been together longer than most humans have been alive: both are 115 years old, and have known each other nearly since birth. The two giant turtles share a cage as well. In recent weeks, Bibi has started attacking Poldi ( signal that the relationship is over?), biting off chunks of Poldi’s shell and carrying out “several further attacks” — prompting the two to be physically separated.
Bibi attacked Poldi and took out a piece of his shell, then continued to attack him, prompting the zoo to move Poldi. Giant tortoises are capable of killing each other in attacks.
