Crashed plane MH370 found? Luggage piece on French island near debris fuels speculation

SAINT-ANDRE (FRANCE): Part of a bag was found on Thursday on the French island of La Reunion not far from plane debris which has fuelled speculation it may be from missing flight MH370.

"The piece of luggage was here since yesterday but nobody really paid attention," said Johnny Begue, a member of a local clean-up association who found the long piece of wreckage believed to be a part of a plane wing. < ..

Debris found on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion is to be transported to France to find out whether it is from the missing flight MH370, Malaysia's prime minister has said.

Initial reports suggest the two-metre long object is very likely to be from a Boeing 777, Najib Razak said.

The Malaysia Airlines flight - a Boeing 777 - vanished while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014.

The search has focused on part of the southern Indian Ocean east of Reunion.

Oceanographer David Griffin, of Australia's national science agency, told the BBC that the location of the find was "consistent with where we think debris might have turned up".

There were 239 passengers and crew on board the plane when it went missing.
Mr Najib said French authorities were taking the debris to the southern French city of Toulouse - the site of the nearest office of the French body responsible for air accident investigations (the BEA) - to verify it as quickly as possible.

He said the location was consistent with drift analysis provided to Malaysian investigators.

"As soon as we have more information or any verification we will make it public. I promise the families of those lost that whatever happens, we will not give up."

Malaysia has sent a team of investigators and other officials to Toulouse and another team of experts to Reunion - a French overseas department.

Will this solve aviation mystery?

Is it MH370? Part number 'confirms' debris from Boeing 777, says Malaysian official

KUALA LUMPUR: A part number on aircraft wreckage recovered in the Indian Ocean confirms it came from a Boeing 777, a Malaysian official said Friday, expressing confidence that the mystery of flight MH370 was close to being solved.

"From the part number, it is confirmed that it is from a Boeing 777 aircraft. This information is from MAS (Malaysia Airlines). They have informed me," Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi told AFP.

Wreckage found 'almost certainly' from MH370

Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi on Friday said airline wreckage found on Reunion island, "almost certainly" is from Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that mysteriously disappeared in March 2014.

According to aviation experts, the wreckage found on Reunion, a French territory about 600 km east of Madagascar, does resemble a flaperon -- a moving part of the wing surface -- from a Boeing 777.

Also found was the remains of a battered suitcase. "The flaperon is similar to that on a Boeing 777 aircraft. It's almost certain,"

The Malaysian Star quoted the minister as saying. A Malaysian team is on the way to Reunion island. The team would be able to conclude in a couple of days if the piece of debris was indeed from the ill-fated plane. According to a spokeswoman for the Paris prosecutor's office, the wreckage will be transported to France on Friday evening, CNN reported.
