Forum Rule Suggestion - Only Qualified Members should be allowed to debate !!

Most forums suffer from negative posts that derail the threads and discussions. Some contribute negatively by name calling continuously during their time in the forum. They want to learn nothing and at the same time wring others out. They name call or abuse the content so as to ensure the members get drawn into crap arguments and fights.

They gang up and start hounding other members who are generally very soft and polite and they are not used to lashing out against such abuses. Otherwise, they get into endless junk arguments and try to wear all the other members down. They think by dragging an argument endlessly they are showing their prowess.

By such actions, they downgrade the forum content and many members get alienated by such nuisance and keep away from the debate section or from the forum altogether, who would otherwise have contributed immensely.

In view of this mess, some suggestions -

  1. Members should not be able to participate in the debate section unless qualified and approved. They can post in other sections as per current rules.
  2. Member qualification - Members should be assessed for original thinking, independent thinking, subject contribution, expertise, and then allowed to participate. Some kind of exam / questionnaire could also be given before qualifying the members :)-. Open for discussion.
  3. Members should formally sign off on "forum and debate rules" before becoming eligible to participate.
  4. Members should be barred from debating if they post abusive posts or name calling etc in contravention to forum rules.

Content suggestions -
  1. Post only if you have a coherent intelligent comment, disagreement or argument.
  2. Don't just keep questioning people endlessly. Contribute positively.
  3. Focus only on the content and then argue positively.
  4. Don't focus on ideology, don't get into emotions that someone is supporting a different party to mine.
  5. People can and will change opinions. No need to be agitated due to this.
  6. Don't side track from the thread topic into other unrelated areas.
  7. Don't get agitated and lash out if other members get swayed by one member's argument.
  8. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose in forwarding your argument.
  9. Keep the good fight on, not the negative hate of name calling and personal fights.

Dear Shri Praveen Ji,

Please do not hesitate to close this thread down if you feel this is the preogative of the moderator and should not be debated by members.

?????

Almost no one would qualify to post anything if these rules are enforced.

While this is posted with good intention, there are a lot of implementation issues associated with it. Right now, we do not have the bandwidth to enforce such policies or do the groundwork.
Also, this would bring in the debate of the "qualification". On what basis we would qualify members.

I am also closing this because this has the potential to veer off into unwanted areas of discussion.
