[h=1]Spurned boy clubs girl to death in classroom[/h]
K SonaliTRICHY: In a chilling reminder of the recent daylight murder of IT employee Swathi at a Chennai railway station, an engineering girl student was clubbed to death by a spurned classmate at Karur Engineering College on the Karur-Erode road on Tuesday.
Police said 19-year-old K Sonali of Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, a third year civil engineering student, was in her class with her friends in the morning when 21-year-old Udhayakumar approached her and said something. Soon they had a heated argument and the man attacked Sonali on the head with a log. He also attacked Prof Sathish kumar and some girls who tried to protect her and fled.
Sonali collapsed in a pool of blood and was rushed to a private hospital in Karur and then referred to another private hospital in Madurai. However, she died of her injuries.
The Karur police have registered a case and arrested Udhayakumar. He is being interrogated. It is said Sonaliand Udhayaku mar were once friends.
However, unhappy with his activities, she had been avoiding him.
For the past 10 days, Udhayakumar had been at his native place at Velloor near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district.From there he tried to speak to Sonali, but could not.
Angered by her sudden change, he came to Karur and straightaway went to the college and confronted the girl.
