The ICC Cricket world cup jointly hosted by Australia & New Zealand commences on 14 Feb ..Cricket fans are waiting with bated breath the match between India and Pakistan (Pool B)on Feb 15 (Sunday)..Will India retain the world cup? We will not let go of the Cup; so screams an add in Star Sports...Does India have the grit and determination to retain the cup..Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan are strong contenders for the cup..I am not not betting on India on account of the poor form of Dhoni as well as Bowlers which is worrisome

$ 10 Million is the total prize money which is up for grabs! Will India earn the prize money of $ 3.97 million reserved for the winner?

It will be a miracle if India even qualifies for the Knockout stages.

It will be Australia, NZ, South Africa, England in the quarter finals.

One thing that I found common in the comments from everyone regarding Indias Chances is that no one feels that India will even qualify and will also loose the game against Pakistan . This is the first WC since 90s when we play without Sachin . This is the first time there is lot of negativity with regard to India's chances even to qualify in the WC2015 . Let us see how the team does and all the best to them . As of now I can only say that Australia and SA look very confident and well prepared .So these 2 teams will definitely qualify for the semis and the rest I have no idea .

When there is lot of negative sentiment with regard to the performance of the Indian Cricket Team in WC2015 , the following article says it is dangerous to write of Dhoni & Co .
Writing off, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and India? Think again | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

I liked this comment by Lal Chand Rajput " "You cannot just write him off. He has something special always up his sleeves. We have to wait and see. Yes, batting may be a concern just like bowling, but the kind of format is you cannot rule them out. Dhoni's captaincy test will start from the knock out stages and he can pull off a miracle"..Hope Dhoni's much famed luck support him in this prestigious WC

Who are Sachin's favorites for the semi final berth..Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India...Applaud him for his positivity!

Sachin says" "Yes, I think M S Dhoni is the guy because he has the experience of competing at this level for close to 10 years and he is calm and composed. You know, even on the biggest of the stages he is calm and composed and that is what you expect from a leader,"

Will experience , being calm and exposed get us the cup? How about Dhoni's present form??

India's performance down under - Australia and New Zealand - over the years has been mediocre, due to fast pitches in Australia and strong wind / swing condition in New Zealand.

India did not qualify for the knock out stage when World Cup was organized by the same countries in 1992 and surprisingly even the host Australia, when Allan Border was the captain, who won the Reliance World Cup in 1987 in India, did not qualify.

The current team lacks a consistent and aggressive players like Dravid and Shewag respectively. The bowling lacks penetration and some players are recovering from injuries.

It will be a big surprise if India qualifies for Semi Final berth.

india would be lucky if it makes iit to the last four.

pakistan has to play badly.england should not qualify to enable that. both tall order

With India taking one arch rivals Pakistan on Sunday, tempers are expected to raise in the sub continent! As usual this match is the Final for punters

Cricket World Cup 2015: Bookies go all out for Sunday league match between arch rivals India and Pakistan

By Dheeraj Tiwari, ET Bureau | 14 Feb, 2015, 07.00AM IST

NEW DELHI: The final of the cricket World Cup is being played on Sunday, at least as far as the bookies are concerned. That's when India plays Pakistan, and inevitably, the wagers are sky-high. It's all under the radar, of course, since betting on the sport is illegal. But that, as we all know, has never stopped the dedicated punter.

India, which has never lost a 50-over World Cup match to Pakistan, is pegged at a payout of Rs 1. This means that someone who bets Rs 1 on India

on India will get Rs 2 if the team wins. The odds are bigger for Pakistan at Rs 1.50. "The Sunday match is the World Cup final for some.

[h=1]Dhoni on India vs Pak: Forget records, Sunday a new day[/h]February 14, 2015

In pep talk to the team against the high-voltage game against Pakistan tomorrow, Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said, "There is of course more intensity when we play Pakistan because the game is followed by so many fans. But I see it as a good platform for the team to perform."
"We need to forget the past and try not to make the same mistakes. It's been a long summer but the positive thing is that we have got used to the conditions. The boys are looking good."

Dhoni played down repeated questions about India's impressive 5-0 record World Cup record against Pakistan, saying what mattered more was how the team played on the given day, reports AFP.

"All I know is that I am asked a lot of questions about the record," he said. "Look, I am not bothered about statistics because what happened in the past will count for little in what is a prized game for all."

India going hammer and tongs at the Pakis and Umesh Yadav's double whammy has shattered the Pakistani attack! Are you also watching the Big B cricket commentary in Star Sports?

Great going India! We have won by 76 runs..Our batsmen especially Shami and Yadav were outstanding! Really appreciate Dhoni and his impactful team! Looks like we are in the reckoning now!!

My most vivid memories of my childhood in India are of cricket.

India was crazy about it. A public holiday meant putting up makeshift stumps on the main road and starting a game. At school we would squeeze in a quick match in our 20 minute tiffin break.
No ball? No problem. Our ball was a stone with a handkerchief wrapped around it.
No bat? We played "hand cricket."
No stumps? Well, that's what tree trunks were for. An Indian child could conjure up cricket paraphernalia from anywhere.
I was no good at cricket. And yet I couldn't help but get swept up in the national frenzy.
When India played another country it was a monumental event. We would feign fevers on the big games to skip school; then we'd try and sneak into the stadiums.
Calcutta's Eden Gardens, its stands heaving with 100,000 cricket fanatics, was a sight to see. It was our Mecca. As we grew more middle class and more homes acquired color TVs, we would huddle together to watch games at home.

[h=1]India vs Pakistan: Adelaide Oval turns into 'Sea of Blue'[/h]
Adelaide Oval was 'under virtual siege' as Indian fans took complete control of the city outnumbering their Pakistani counterparts in the marquee clash between the arch-rivals in the ICC Cricket World Cup on Sunday.

While the number of Indian fans descending in the coastal town swelled close to 25,000 and the locals made the number increase to 30,000 at the 53,500 capacity stadium on Sunday. The green jerseys of the Pakistani fans looked like dots in an 'Ocean of Blue' with 'Sir Donald Bradman Pavilion' stand completely dominated by the Indians.

It was party time for all Indian fans as they gathered at famous Hindley Street in heart of the city on the ve of the high-voltage clash. The local 'Fringe Festival' and the colourful Indians made it a night to remember as the crowd celebrated late into the night. It was no different on Sunday morning as one entered the 'War Memorial Drive' in-front of the Adelaide Oval. You could mistake it for Eden Gardens or Wankhede Stadium as Indian fans sang the hit Bollywood song "Dil diya hain jaan bhi denge aye watan tere liye".

From popular songs to India's sports anthem "Chak De India" came blaring out of loudspeakers everywhere.

[h=2]"Congrats Team India. Well played. We are all very proud of you," Mr. Modi said in his message.[/h]
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian cricket team after it kick-started the campaign in the cricket World Cup with a stupendous win over arch-rivals Pakistan at Adelaide Oval.
“Congrats Team India. Well played. We are all very proud of you,” Mr. Modi said in his message.
The Prime Minister had earlier wished all the Indian cricketers individually just before the start of the quadrennial extravaganza.

South Australia felt more like South Asia on Sunday, as thousands of Indians and Pakistanis flocked to the state capital Adelaide for the rare chance to see their teams duke it out at the Cricket World Cup.

The majority wore the blue of India, and the majority left happy. Inspired by Virat Kohli’s return to form, India defeated its neighbor and great rival by 76 runs. There is already a trend at this World Cup: The team batting first gets at least 300 runs, and the team chasing falls way short.

This highly anticipated contest was effectively over midway through Pakistan’s innings. In pursuit of India’s total of 300, Pakistan went from 98 for 2 to 103 for 5 before you could say “Hey, they were doing quite well literally five minutes ago.”

At the same stage in its innings, India was 129 for 1 and had the resurgent Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli at the crease.

Both had been in poor form ahead of the World Cup—Kohli didn’t even get to double figures in the recent tri-series with England and Australia—but they underscored their reputations as big-game players on Sunday in a match that by some estimates was watched by half a billion people world-wide. That is roughly the equivalent of the entire population of North America, from Panama to Alaska.

Kohli, in particular, has a knack for rising to the occasion. For an Indian cricketer, it doesn’t get any bigger than a World Cup match against Pakistan. He only got nine runs in their last World Cup meeting, in the 2011 semifinal, but this time he took advantage of a couple of drops by Yasir Shah (difficult) and Umar Akmal (routine) to go on and score 107.

No Indian, not even Sachin Tendulkar, had scored a century against Pakistan in the World Cup before. Kohli, who is only 26 years old, has 22 one-day international hundreds to his name. In addition to his innings—well complimented by Dhawan’s 73 and Suresh Raina ’s 74—Kohli also took a difficult catch to end Shahid Afridi ’s innings just as he and 40-year-old captain Misbah ul Haq were mounting a comeback.

The lower stand in the southeast of the stadium was filled with the green shirts and flags of Pakistani supporters, but its color drained as the final wickets fell. By the end, when Sohail Khan skied a catch to Umesh Yadav, the section was just empty plastic seats and Indian tricolors.
The Indian fans were in no mood to leave. They had transformed the Adelaide Oval into a home venue, an Australian Wankhede, and turned a Sunday evening in faraway Australia into a mela.
