[Information Wanted] Funeral in USA and other last rites in India?

My spouse has just a few days left due to terminal illness. South Indian TamBram, based in USA. Plan is to perform the cremation in the US, disperse the ashes here in a water body.
- I read some thread here wherein some suggest taking part of the ashes and dispersing in India. Is this appropriate or needed?
- I was suggested couple of options for the last rites until day 13 post cremation - do it in the US itself with no dhaanam, only one priest for all, OR go to india and do it properly with dhaanam, multiple priests, etc. I also understand if performed in India, the 13th day subhasweekaram still has to be performed again once back in the US as this has been our home for the last few years. Is one option preferred than the other? Any thoughts appreciated.

hi

sorry for the loss...

i attended many funerals in USA....even some conducted myself....we do visarjan of ashes in 2 ways...

1 dispersing ashes into nearest occean....here atlantic ...based on northeast in USA..

2 taking ashes after 13 days subhasweekaram in ganges either in haridwar/kashi..depends on convenient...

generally i saw in gujarati/punjabi communities.....in tambrahram families do in near waterbodies

like small rivers/occean....here we do with only one priest....
