Think or sink!

In A.P. the doors of the dining hall will be closed

the moment al the seats are taken up inside the hall.

Those waiting outside would enter the dining hall

when the swargga vaasal opens again

running like wild animals during a forest fire

causing a near stampede. :scared:
Why do people scramble for food in marriages?

There is a scarcity mentality in marriages . even in good hotels , people are made to Queue up for food.

This is a speciality of south indian hotels.

they foster a mentality of non availability .

the worst is waiting outside a dining hall for availability of table for food service in hotels, marriages, receptions

I avoid going to these places for this reason alone.

even hotels I go only after I make sure, I do not have to go through this experience

Dear VR ji,

There was a Santa Banta Singh joke where Santa got invited to a function and the invitation stated the dress code as black tie only.

So Santa went dressed only with a black tie!LOL

I know the custom of sikhs that they never ever cut any hair on their body.

So with only a black tie on the body... it must have been a glorious gala sight of

karuppuththaan enakku pidichcha kalaru!

If well fed people run for their food in public places

what will the starving nations and stranded people do??? :tsk:

Greater the number of stars given to the hotel...
lesser the amount of food served on the plate!

They serve one dish at a time,
one tablespoon full at a time,
and to one person at a time.

We are supposed to walk back to our seat to eat that morsel of food
and join the Q again for the next morsel of food!

One of the guests spoke words worth akshara laksham
while coming out of one such reception dinner(!!!)

Veettukkuppoi nalla samaichu chappittup padukkanam
intha mathiri idathukkellaam vanthaal!!! :frusty:

Hi Renu!
You ARE incorrigible!!! :)
I could have pull it off IF
I were the pretty Simi Garewell
as she did in one of her movies!!! :thumb:
OR
If I were still daddy's little girl
as in one of my photos (#296) :baby:

This is a very good answer! I enjoyed it and Renuka ji's subsequent quote of Anasuya.

dear JR,
Thank you! previously we had a LIKE button.

did not LIKE the other people being LIKED

So it just disappeared one fine day
with all the statistics and the interesting posts!

Woman with a stomach as flat as a leaf, loves to exhibit her belly button.

Men sport dondhi which can be rightly called mundhi

since it stand before him by considerable distance.

The dondhi becomes a belly balloon when air gets locked

in between the different meals and the drinks so densely that

ir can not escape by creeping, gurgling and bubbling.

The distension is really painful and unsightly.

Better to keep the meals light and the belly

not so densely packed with mall.

P.S.

A friend who could motivate a lady to lose weight drastically

may appear like a foe but is an angel in disguise!!!

I know what it takes to lose weight

whether in single digit or double digits. :ballchain:

I have an uncle who boasts that he looks and feels

younger than his much younger brother. :blah:

It goes to the extent of hurting the person!

If someone feels that he is 'on top of the world'

he can very well stay there happily - without

looking down on his less fortunate siblings!

And there is a lady who is convinced that people go

'disease-shopping' since they have nothing better to do!

If people land in difficulties due to wrong habits or

by misusing/ abusing their body

this point may be agreeable to some extent.

But all diseases are NOT invited nor bought nor created by the sufferer.

It is chain reaction like the song

Kaththi vanthathu vaal POchchu dum du dum dum :drum:

Vaal POchchu buddhi vanthathu dum dum dum dum!!! :attention:

A lady I know as the back of my own palm

had a series of misfortunes ruining her very

good health and good looks in just a few years!

She grew polyps in her uterus.

The polyps had to be removed.

They went out along with her uterus.

Her uterus went out along with her glands.

Her hormone balance was disrupted.

She started gaining weight irrespective of

the food she ate or did not eat!

Her excess weight caused rise in her B.P!

Her obesity landed her in the World of Diabetics.

Was her suffering caused by her wanton disease-shopping

or by the unfriendly polyps which decided to grow inside her??? :decision:

Dear VR ji,

Her condition is called Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)..it leads to the metabolic syndrome and its triad of Diabetes, Hypertension,Ischeamic Heart Disease..precursor being obesity most of the time.

The weight gain is hard to lose but NOT impossible.

Most of the patients who have this lack motivation to do daily exercises.

It is also strange that its the lack of motivation types that usually get PCOS.

That poor lady suffers becos of PCOS!!! :tsk:
She does not lack motivation but
she can't do vigorous exercises
because of her worn out joints!!! :(
The lady in the colony who weighs 85 KG
and measures 4' 9" and has Chinese feet in addition to these,
now swings like a reversed pendulum when she walks.
She lives in the third floor (with no lift facility to carry her)
I shudder to think of what is in store for her! :scared:

Dear VR ji,

Many have never exercised in their lives hence years of neglect lead to damaged joints and diseases.

So you cant expect them to acutely adopt a healthy lifestyle all of a sudden.

Day in and day out I have patients asking me for medication to lose weight and I say I do not keep such medicines in my clinic becos that does not promote a healthy life style not to mention the side effects!

So many females prefer to see other doctors who sell them these medications.

I can say that out of 10 females who ask me medication to lose weight not even 1 take my advise to do daily exercise.

Motivated disciplined people are hard to come by..they give various excuses..its just the matter of planning our life well enough.

I have seen even disabled people who are more motivated than normal people when it comes to exercise.

most of such over weight ladies prefer to suffer and die than exercise .

it requires some will power to get control over ones body and be disciplined.

mostly they lack the motivation due to what they have undergone in life and they become careless about their own appearance.

if they can love life ,they can help themselves.

life is a little more than close relations bugging each other and there are many things in the world that one can enjoy .

there is no particular reason they should go downhil at a fairly young age of sixty or so

dear Renu,
But this lady is very disciplined and motivated.
I guess she over did her part in the past.
So the joints are gone not because of rusting
but because of over use (or abuse if I can call it that)
So everything must be within limits whether it is
resting or rusting or bursting with high energy.
She is wise AFTER the loss due to the overuse!

We lose what we don't use. :couch2:

We also lose what we overuse! :tsk:

Dear Mr. krish,

I read the magnified line as close relations hugging each other at first and felt happy. :)

Then I read it correctly and I am NOT questioning your statement - since it is TRUE! :(

By the way how do you say that the lady I am talking about is 60+ young???

“Use it or Lose it”

Contrary to the popular belief, the human brain does not lose its power merely through aging. Constant mental activities help to keep the brain young and active.

This is the theory put forward by Professor Marian Diamond, after years of research on the development of human brain. She bases her findings on the experiments done with rats.

Young rats were placed in stimulating environment instead of the usual empty cages. They were exposed to the company of the other rats and to toys and play things like wheels and ladder–which would make the rats use their brains.

This kind of stimulation changed the chemistry and structure of the cortex—the thin outer layer of nerve cells of the brain. Every part of each cell enlarged and the number of support cells attached to them also increased. As a result, the brains of the rats became more active and ready to meet the challenges set for them by the researchers.

The same experiment was repeated with older rats aged 766 days (equivalent to 76 years in human life span). The older rats also showed thickening of the cortex.

What is the implication of this experiment on human beings?

Professor Diamond interviewed several octogenarians who had kept their brains active. She put her findings in a nutshell by saying, “I found that the people who use their brains don’t lose them. It was that simple!”

Very true Visalakshi ji! This is the reason I still hold on to her as a friend.

However, when it comes to me, I wouldn't be so blunt in expressing my disapproval of someone's obesity -- what if the other person has implications that caused obesity, such as your PCOS friend or is suffering from joint problems or is just plain unable to do, or in some circumstances that I observed, plain happy at whoever they are, however they look? I would probably be gentle in saying/using words such as, "You look very good, but perhaps even more so if you could manage to get rid of some weight, please try it" or something like that. That is the reason why I did not retaliate back to her saying "You are fat too". There is a saying in Tamil, "Kaniyiruppak Kai Kavarndatru" -- when a fruit is there, why prefer the unripe "Kai"? But, I chose to dismiss this incident because I know this friend very well, and this is her habit with everything and everyone, not just me.

Sorry for taking up space in the midst of your messages on the brain and aging. No more on this topic from me. :)

dear JR,

You are welcome to take as much space as you wish to
and you can manage to take in this thread.

People find this thread an eye-sore for obvious reasons.

They want to move me out of the forum
or at least move this thread from GD.

It was already shifted to Quotes and Sayings once
by some perosons' recommendations and again
back to G.D by some other people's recommendation.

I do not know either group of those people
nor do I wish to know their identities.

What I want to emphasize is that we must discuss
something or some unusual person
I always manage to locate in a crowd.

So you are most :welcome: to express your
opinion / thoughts / suggestions / criticisms here. :)

A sari, saree or shari[SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sari#cite_note-1[/SUP] is a South Asian female garment[SUP]

(4.57
meters to 8.23meters) in length[SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sari#cite_note-3[/SUP] and two to four feet
(60cm to 1.20m) in breadth

with one end draped over the shoulder, baring the

Most elderly women of normal height need only 36" wide sari.

The 48" wide sari need to be tucked in for atleast by 12 "

to be able to move freely, with out tripping over the pleats.

The silk saris are made longer, wider and heavier with brocade work.

The tucked in portion looks voluminous in an already voluminous body/ lady!!!

SO why not produce saris with 36" width in addition to the usual 48" width?

They can be marked small (3' wide) medium (3 1/2 ' wide)

and large ( 4' wide)

NOT only will this save the precious raw material silk

but also make the saris user friendly???
