for western dresses there are classifications for slim fit ,L,XL,XXL

There are separate shops in malls for people of extra large and above.

for sarees alsothere can be separate sizes in terms of width and length to suit all depending on height and circumference .

senior citizen require dresses saris which can be worn without inconvenience ,at the same time traditional with silk and perhaps light in exotic designs and colour.

they can sacrifice width and length , customisation should be possible with little or no effort . it will satisfy a huge segment of senior citizen besides elegance and low cost

Why waste the raw material which is

already scarce to meet the needs?

Why punish the elderly ladies who HAVE to wear sairs

whether or not they can even move about!!!

My briliant younger sister prepared ready-to-wear-saris

for my mother to wear during her granson's wedding.

Only she did not get to wear them poor dear... to due a bad fall -

bad enough to stop her from attending the wedding :(

but good enough to leave her unhurt very seriously!!! :hail:
 
Length of the sari varies from 5 yards to 6.5 yards already.

It is the width of the sari that is troubling most people!!!

I think they make these saris for the

tall slender ladies from foriegn contries!!!

International celebrities in Indian saris!!!

But they hardly look Indian despite wrapping a sari.

My great wisdom is because of my extended family which has got 15 senior citizen in late seventies, eighties and even 90plus . more than half of them are ladies.

So I understand the issues very clearly when It comes to requirements of senior citizen in wedding halls, their food requirements besides dresses they require to fit

their age which are elegant ,light and easy to wear besides being conventional silk .I think there is a huge requirement of these types of clothes for senior citizens.

They are made to last for a few decades and youngsters take the costly sarees which are used by their mom.

Hence most of the sarees are made wide enough for women who are up to 5' 8'' tall.

Some girls /women who are more than 5' 8'' NEED to search for really wide sarees and they have lesser choice.
It is always better for the seniors to go in for one-side bordered sarees which do not hurt while tucking in! :decision:
 
I have a huge collection of double side bordered poly silk sarees. It is a problem to tuck in the border and so I have removed

the border from the portion of the saree which has to be tucked in. Saree weighs less and tucking in is easier! :cool:

P.S: I posted this idea with a photo of one such saree in the 'Ideas...' thread sometime back. :)

When I present sarees to senior citizen I tell the children not to touch sarees belonging to senior

citizen. they emotionally blackmail their moms and take the costly sarees.

also in all weddings , not well off relatives get costliest sarees as presents while well off get less

expensive. this is Krish brand of socialism. lol

I agree with this sentiment, Renuka. Somehow in our Brahmin community, although we strictly do not eat meat for ahimsa reasons, wearing silk and eating Cakes made from eggs is prevalent. Also is prevalent consuming the fish oil tablets. These things should go. My late grandmother used to tell us when young, in olden days (70 yrs ago) how Brahmin community used to refuse eating even what was considered "Foreign vegetables" such as Cabbage, Cauliflower, Carrots, etc. I wonder how they managed to do it, I render a big salute to these everyday heroines for their 'vairagyam'. I own several silk saris (I wore them all for my marriage) and I have to admit, I cannot resist the temptation of wearing them and give in once in a while. I think I will be well-off if I dispose them off by donating to others who are interested, and start afresh with Brocade, Mysore Silk, Art silk sarees.

I love this concept of krish Socialism. :thumb:

Usually the richest gets the costliest sari and

the poorest gets the lousiest sari of the lot.

Either they are giving according to the status of the recipient

(paaththiram aRinthu gift kodu!)

or they hope to get back the value of the gift

in some other form soon enough from the recipient! :decision:

It has made me understand people much better.

There have been secret gifts

given discreetly and secretly

and kept a secret all their lives!!!

OH what an unnecessary burden on their conscience!!! :tsk:
 
In A.P ladies wear good looking saris but those will be

pure cotton with pure gold jari. WOW!!!

When they want to change the sari new for old,

they just sell the sari by its weight

and go for a new one of equal value.

No money is wasted on the non refundable silk threads!!!

Very intelligent people !!! right???

We buy non refundable silk material with

artificial non refundable jari now a days!!! :(
 
In A.P they get jewels made in silver with genuine gems and have them gold plated.

It costs a very small percentage of the gold jewels but look and feel genuine.

If the polish wears out they get it gold plated one more time as good as new!

In short they spend on the accent and not on the base on which it is set!!!

Very intelligent once again!!! Right???

I would love to buy such jewelry! I buy a few of my earring sets from www.ArtKarat.com, they are artificial jewelry due to which my friends say they are way too expensive. But they are gold-plated with genuine gems and look fantastic when worn. I wear them for all occassions, including parties, as I like the North Indian pattern that looks different. My gold jewelry collection is very, very limited.

I try to give sarees to relatives discreetly a few days before marriage so that they can wear them after stitching blouses for the wedding .

I also do not accept any presents for marrying people in the wedding/reception hall .

flowers/bouquet are fine

This leads to happiness in those attending the wedding/reception as a major issues of social/economic dis parities are kept out of family functions.

we are meeting i family functions for a few hours of enjoyment and happiness . why spoil it.?

Gold is an eternal prisoner!
Either it lies buried under earth/concrete/iron.
Or it remains under lock and key all the time some where or the other.
Once people used to pass off gold plated jewels as gold jewels.
Now gold jewels are passed off as one gram gold
just to avoid the surging jealousy and evil eyes!!! :)
