Why do people confuse a Guru with God???

The mad rush to visit Guru baffles me!

I always thought Guru comes to us in a suitable form

when we are qualified and ready to receive him/her.

The pomp/ show/ procedures/ discrimination etc

are not justified in my thinking process!

Once a popular AacharyA asked the photographer,

"நான் நல்லா விழுந்திருக்கேனா?"

அவர் அன்றைக்கு என் அபிப்ராயத்தில் விழுந்தவர் தான்

I have never worshipped so called god men, I believe in my inner spirit more than these upstart swamis.. I cannot believe the fascination the world has on such people, perhaps they are doing some kind of tantra towards the weak minded that these people are flocking and getting flocked, I don't know.. I just can't stand the sight of some of these uncouth guys.. sorry I am not very happy at all.. I feel rather sorry for all the people who believe in such mayavees..

Well not only in our religion but the christian evangelists also have the same power over so many in this world.. there are some who have given up everything to these men who live the utmost luxurious lives.. it is so sad that so many lose so much because they believe that this presence of such god men will save them from misery.. sad but true..

We are told to lead simple lives sacrificing luxuries while those who say so travel by A.C cars, sit on silk covered special chairs, touch noting but gold and silver and I do not know what else.

I do not say that all gurus do this but many do this. It is indeed a sad thing that they preach something and practice something else!

My guru used to tell us that thinner a sanyasi ...greater his self control, sacrifices and merits.

The well fed swamis looks all rounded and the less said the better for both of us! :tape:

But this is nothing new since Adhi Sanakara speaks about such people in his Bhaja Govindham.

"Jadilo Mundi Lunchitha Keasaha
Kaashaayaambhara Bahukrutha Veshaha
Pasyan Api Jathi Pasyathi Moodo
Udhara Nimittham Bahukrutha Veshaha"

Keshaha = hair
Jadilo = some sport a long matted hair locks
Mundi = some have clean shaven head
Lunchitha = keep 5 tufts or Panca Sikha
Kaashaayaambhara = some sport a 'Saffron" cloth as if they are Ascetics
Bahukrutha Veshaha = all kinds of costumes they wear
Moodo = Hey Idiot
Pasyan Api Jathi Pasyathi = if you look carefully and think deeply
Udhara Nimittham = only for the sake of filling their bellies
Bahukrutha Veshaha = they enact all such Drama

People will do anything to fill the bottomless belly.

There is a bottom but since it is not sealed and has an opening,
it is as good as no-bottom-at-all for all practical purposes!

i agree, that bhakta need not be voratious. the famous purandara dasa song tells "....ondudala sri tulasi, bindu gangodakavu..." (means...one leaf of tulasi and one drop of water... is sufficient to please GOD)

Human beings have these three temperaments namely Rajasic, Tamasic and Satvic.

In fact my guru used to say that these three moods prevail in the same person during different times of the day.

So the same qualities are projected on everything man wants to describe or explain.

Brahma became Rajasic, Siva Taamasi and Vishnu Satvic.
Saraswathi became Rajasic, Durga Tamasic and Lakshmi Satvic.
