Singing other faith songs by Carnatic musicians

"[FONT=&quot]Noted vocalist Nithyasree Mahadevan posted a long explanation on FB saying she had rendered the devotional song, 'Samaanulevaru Prabho' on Christ "only because I was happy to be an instrument to bolster communal peace and harmony". She also apologized "for inadvertently hurting your sentiments if any".

Going by her explanation, she rendered those songs only for communal peace and harmony. How is this..??

Oh! The above video was published in October 2016!!

Nithyasree's voice is not at all impressive.

All charaNams of this song are copy cat tunes from Saint Thyagaraja's song

Ramā RamaNa rārā in SankarAbharaNam.

Yāru kadhula poo chuththarānga?

Everyone should have "freedom to express" their views.
If a singer wants to sing and has all the rights to that song or music they should have the right to do so.

These fringe groups are chipping away at our right to express our views.

TM Krishna is very secular and has made bold statements that he will object to anyone wanting sole monopoly to Carnatic music...but he has valid points too...he wants to make Carnatic music userfriendly to everyone.

Anyway I am not.a great.fan of Carnatic music..only a few songs I like.

There are two ways by which you get noticed, one the traditional way and the other moving away from it.

Sometimes showing secular credentials will pay rich dividends. Already TMK got award from Philippines. Change of Govt. at the Centre may probably add one more feather by way of domestic award.

Best way to get awards is showing secular credentials.

Oh, yeah! There is NO copyright for the great Carnatic composer's songs!

One Tamil composer has copied tunes from Saint Thyagaraja's songs.

Thyagaraja and Dikshitar themselves have composed songs in Western tunes.

This is British National anthem:

This is its xerox 'Santhatham pāhimām', by Dikshitar:

'Vara Leela gāna lōla' is in Western style, composed by
Thyagaraja:

I composed a song on Swami Ayyappa set as our national anthem!

I think I have posted it in forum sometime back!

But it was just for curiosity!! ;)

Now can we expect postings on unique features of Carnatic Music and how they differ from western music...?

P.S: This is the modus operandi of veterans who are known to derail threads. :)

Hindus are elated when Dās Ēttan or Higgins bhāgavatar sing in praise of Hindu deities

and get angry if any Church objects to this! They are very happy if Sheik Chinna Moulana

plays Carnatic songs on nādaswaram. The prestigious Sangeetha kalanidhi title was given

to him in 1998, by the Music Academy, Madras.

Sheik Mahaboob Subhani and his wife Kaleeshabi Mahaboob, the nadaswaram couple, are

his disciples. They wear typical Hindu attire and have thilakam on their forehead. They are also

the āsthāna vidwans of Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetham.

Will our community allow ONLY musicians from other faiths to sing in praise of our deities and

react harshly when Hindu musicians sing on Jesus or Allah?

Is it not not hypocrisy to the core?

Well said RR ji.

Let us be cinematic once again. Music has no boundaries, religion, caste, creed etc. etc.

There is no harm in Hindu Musicians singing on Gods of other Faiths. But, who are they singing for? 99.99% of the Rasikas are Hindus and majority of them Bs. Do u want Hindus to listen to it?

What is baffling in this case is why the Christian priests are engaging Hindu singers? They can identify their own men who are interested in Cartic Music, give them training and engage them to glorify their Gods.

I agree with your views on this subject.

If the act of these Carnatic musicians singing hyms which includes alleged plagiarism is considered fair, why did Dr. Nithyasree Mahadevan apologized......???

Why was the concert of T.M. Krishna cancelled..??

Perhaps this may be a welcome beginning of awareness

You are right sir

Why plagiarize ...??

Why engage Carnatic Music singers....??

Is there a dearth for singers to sing hyms with Carnatic touch...??

They can train and have their own band at their disposal.
