Dear Raji Ji,

Dont you feel that this covering up way of dressing is a recent phenomenon?
I dont see any of the ancients covered as much in any sculpture or painting.

Thats why I always tell my mum that those who are cover up are modern and those who dont cover up as much are "old fashioned'!!LOL

Dear TBS,

reminds me of a Subhashita I read once...

A Yogin says to a King.."I am here (in the hermitage) contented with garments made of bark, while you are happy with your silken garments.
Our contentment is the same.
There is no difference whatever.
He who has abundant desire is poor.

So I guess the Amazonians knew this Subhashita.

Draupadi to dussadana when her dress was pulled:

एकं च वासः मम मन्दबुद्धे सभां नेतुं नार्हसि मामनार्य

one clothe only for me, hey anaarya, mandahabuddhi - it is not proper to take me to the sabha.

Wearing of more than one clothe is allowed for ladies.

dear prasad !
my point is no harm in using a nighty. what i want to say is it must be used in a proper way for the purpose for which it is intended.i do not want to tell each and everything in a explicit manner that will be very acquard.

We have to apply the rule of three:
Formal for official/ working lives
Comfort for relaxing/ don't care occasions
Traditional for ritual/ spiritual/ occasions.

Saris disappearing from the big screen

Geographical condition plays an important role in many parts of India, either
being hot or humid climate. This may be one of the causes to go in for XL
Salwar Kameez. To avoid sexual harassment and to avoid looking disrespectful
dress code is very essential. Few women who have a bit round and pudgy
stomach wear sari in a different fashion. Some wear sari below navel even
in the School premises. Grown up children's attention will be on the waist of
the Teacher not on the Black board. This is yet another disadvantage.
Women must avoid dressing sexually flirting in public places as we see these
days bad elements do mischievous things.

Some married women are generally allowed to maintain some decorum in the
house when they are living with in-laws, hence to show respect to their
elders, they wear sari. In some house, the elders do not question and they
wear a comfortable dress according to their choice.

Some women prefer nightie/maxi most of the time at home and often even
outside in the local market.

Some wear sari mostly at work place though there is no compulsion for them
to wear, mainly because they have no other occasion during ordinary days
to wear sari otherwise. However, Sari is a very stylish and versatile attire.
