Ravan in new Avatar is to hit the theaters soon. I have now chosen this subject for the story to Dhanishta I am sure to catch the imagination of a child with a character with 10 heads!!The point is certain innocent question are likely to be raised in the mind of a child will definitely put me on the back foot I don the role of Dhanishta listening to the story of Ravana( not the fake Maniratnams Ravan) to these possible Questions that may raise in her mind.தாதா ராவணனுககு தல வலிச்சா 10 Aspro சாப்டணும் ! 10 வாய் ஒரு வயிறு . வயிறுவலிக்காது ? Question like this may be many. How do I mange if these points were raised? Jambu:embarassed:

dear sir...

may be just tell her the truth...that the 10 headed depiction was just to represent that he was master of 4 vedas and 6 shastras...for a child may be if she finds it difficult to comprehend that(but she looks pretty smart if she is to ask about taking tablets for headache etc)then you can tell her that Ravana was a master of 10 types of knowledege....

May be tell her the truth of Ravan's birth also..he being Vaikuntha Dwarapalaka..
I feel its high time we clear the negative perception of Ravana..so that people will realize his greatness as a true devotee of God who did not mind taking 3 births as an antihero when he had the option of having 7 births as a devotee of God....

And God too loved him beyond anything..Lord Rama was willing to endure hardship just for the sake of liberating his dear devotee...
May be some one should come up with a new perspective of the Ramayan and call it
Rama and Ravana..the true story..

people always say Ramachandraji ki jai...
I am going to say Ravana ji ki jai...

Thank you I will just to that and tell about the positive side of பத்து தலை and let you know how child reacts for that. 10 Aspro question was mine when I was donning her role for illustration only.
I am yet to launch the story Jambu:wave:

Yesterday night 9.30PM she was with me for her story on 10 தலை ராவணண் with a cup of Boost. I was consciously avoiding any thing negative about Ravanan and advised her not to interrupt with questions.Follow this thread
அவனுக்கு பதது தலை Twenty hands!நெஜமா ? ஆமா பத்து தலெனா பத்து மூள 10 times intelligent!!. Terribly impressed, swallowed one mouth full of Boost imagining. After a few seconds of contemplation அப்படீனா ராவணண்தான் 1st Rank in his class. ஆமா ஒன்ன மாதிரியே கெட்டிகாரன் . 20 handsன்னா very strong . எல்லாரையும் சண்டேலஜெய்சுடுவான். Immediately she asked Vishaல கூடவா ?(Big bully of her class). Yes Yes.யாராலெயும் அவன ஜெயிக்கமுடுயாதா ? Why ராமர்கிட்ட தோத்து போனநே !
எபபிடீ? ஏன்னா கடசீலே நல்லவாதான் ஜெய்பா . Now go to sleep Jambu :bolt:

Was hit by a bombshell this morning While I was going through my cup of coffee and The Hindu around 8 .30 AM Dhanishta straight from her bed even without brushing came and declared that when Next time Vishal bullies her she will pray to Ravanan & ராவணண் வந்து அவன் கண்ண குத்திடும். She must have thought about this story over night and since I deliberately avoided the bad aspects of Ravanan projecting his 10 times intelligence and power probably I have led her to imagine he is good & hence a God. and she would pray to him to punish the bad boy! I was really taken aback not knowing what to say . I was pondering about this. I thought my line of telling the story was totally wrong When the stories are told by தாதா & பாட்டி, are simple staight forward with out any scope for misunderstanding The bad is bad, to be vanquished Good always triumphs This is delivered with out much efforts and understood clearly by the listening children. But I had taken the trouble to avoid the bad aspects took pain to project only the good led this disastrous effect! We tell stories to children to teach the moral like love compassion the end does not justify means etc Now I decided to retell the story slightly modified.வாழைப்பழத்லே ஊசி ஏத்தற மாதிரி Moralsஅ சொல்லணும் Otherwise it will be pain for both. I told her why Ravanan is bad and why he should be vanquished & How Ram did etc. and finally told her pray Ram to come to her help. which she understood saying Ravanan is a Rowdy பாட்டி சொன்னா புரியும் பண்டிட் சொன்னா confuse ஆகும்
I Should avoid the Pandit in me while dealing with children in future

If there is some scope for confusion in the story line anti heroes become hero. Godfathers become greater than Gods as in Ballywood & Koliwood This I am putting in a separate thread Waiting for feed backs Jambu :noidea:

Dr.Jambunathan ji,

I am enjoying a lot, the incidents that you are narrating, between your self (loving thaathaa) and Dhanishta (sweet kutty highbrow).

Children now a day's are very smart & sharp and have the capacity to make us understand how perfect we are and help us to contemplate our ideas of educating them.

I am eagerly awaiting your new thread on the subject, focusing on how and what makes the characters/roles upside-down owing to the scope of confusions in the stories.

Before we get carried away by his intellect and erudition, we need to remember that according to the story, Ravanan supposedly abducted Sita against her will. By any standard this is a horrible crime. For that, he got what he deserved.

Cheers!

Dear Renukakarthikeyan
Do you honestly belive that Dhanishta should be aware of this Shiva Tandava Stotra.I am dealing with a child telling stories with some morals which should be absorbed with out pain or even being aware of it. That was not for Dhanistha...This thread's name is Ravana...I am just talking about him..i did not know this thread is for Dhanistha...
Its just for general info I am putting all this here...:sorry:

Dear Nara...

Ok what about this then...Rama abandons a heavily pregnant Sita without even telling her a goodbye..He sends his ever obliging "brain dead" brother to do the job..

Lakshmana cries (as usual) to Sita.."O My God..Sita ..my brother has abandoned you..forgive me....because he heard some guys talk ill of you..etc....waaaaa waaaa waaaaa(crying) as usual"

On the other hand Ravana was willing to wage a war for Sita..and make her his Queen....

So its still Ravanaji ki Jai....

* all the above i have typed is my opinion if i am looking at the Ramayana purely from a human point of view..so it may sound harsh

*Dear Bhagawan..I fully understand your divine leela and role play in your quest to liberate your dear devotee Jaya(Ravana).....that I have no doubt and no harsh comments..

Sow.Renukakarthikayan,

Greetings. Ravana was a great charecter. There is no doubt about it. In Vamiki Ramayana, when we read the narration of the city and the narratio of the people we can see that people were carefree and comfortable. Unless Ravana was a just and able king, his subjects could not have been that comfortable. (I remember one incident during parayanam....someone asked..more like wondered about Lankapuri...I kind of compared it with the down town area of the city I live in...with the pubs, week end outings, restaurents etc). I don't think Rama would get offended for saying this....Ravana was a great king; a great personality. Sure, he made some mistakes, then who had not? If we compare Ravana to Indra, Ravana would be as pure as the first snow of the winter!

Cheers!

Dear Raghy...

I fully agree..that why I always admired Ravana...If God(Rama) and his apparent Mayashakti(Sita) was willing to endure hardship just to liberate him..how dear a devotee God considered him(Ravana).....

coming to Indra..Indra only gave extra work to Rama..
Rama had to turn Ahalya back to her human form...on the way to liberate Ravana...

Now Raghay & Renukakarthikeyan are taking Ravans character study to Ph.d levels. But I am trying to introduce Ravana to அரை களாஸ் (UKG) girl in different context. Just laugh in wonder how child's mind works To days poser to me when she saw the picture of Ravanan with 10 heads & 20 hands (in page 1 of this thread postedby me) Where are his கொம்பு?. She cannot imagine a ராக்ஷஸன் without கொம்பு ! Now கொம்பு seems to be the in thing for children. During Alagar Festivals vendors were selling these கொம்பு (made in China) for Rs.25 They are made of plastic mounted on a head band & are illuminated when switched on. Every Child on the road (including Dhanishta) was going about donning this
proudly. This is only to make the discussion a bit light Jambu:fencing:

i think its the child in renuka, which wanted all of us wanting to know the stotram of ravanan, prompted her the post.moral of ravanan is,in order for the good to triumph over evil, incarnations take place.for a child, its better to say rama is god and ravanan is evil asuran.

for 10 ten heads, its an artistic expression of a single headed human, who has the ability,to do think speak act like 10 peole, like 10 in one.or maybe ravanan did really have 10 heads and a asuran, which modern kids will totally reject at a later date,in fact start disbelieving our religion itself, when they grow old, unless, someone smart again story tell them.

Sri.Dr.Jambunathar,

Greetings. When initially you explained Ravana as a decent person to Danishta, you were not wrong. From my grand mother, I too received a glowing picture about Ravana. My grandma could never explain to me why someone would abduct a woman, that too someone else's wife... So all she said was, Sita was abducted to avenge Surpanaka! Actually, at one point, when I was young, I wondered why didn't Rama marry Surpanaka too? After all, she was very interested; most 'Gods' had two wives; why not marry her and save all the trouble?:noidea: Who knows? Danishta may ask you these same questions too!....

Cheers!

Cheers!

Yes sure she will. But 10 summers hence I hope ENJOY Jambu

....Rama abandons a heavily pregnant

Lakshmana cries (as usual) to Sita..

Renu, you are making the same straw man argument many here make routinely in defense of Hinduism. In what way can we condone Ravana's behavior on the basis of how terrible Rama was. However a just ruler Ravana may have been, whatever may have been his learning, none of that can lessen the severity of the crime of abducting a woman against her will. If Sita went with Ravana willingly then we can sing the praise of Ravana.

Cheers!

renu
coming to Indra..Indra only gave extra work to Rama..
Rama had to turn Ahalya back to her human form...on the way to liberate Ravana...

Indra too is a awesome guy,and Rama for the love of Indra too, changes Ahalya back to human form...sita,ahalya,tara,mandothari,draupadi are the pancha kanyas smaray nithyam sarva papa vimochanam.

Now way man...I simply love Ravana...He is cool..he was always sure what he wanted..Rama seemed so unsure and always depended on others opinion..

So what if he abducted someonelses wife?Didnt Rama instigate Lakshmana to disfigure Surpanakha...what was her crime? Falling in love with Rama was a crime..and Sita was laughing at her all the while when Rama and Lakshmana were playing with her feelings like a pendulum..tellling her one moment to go for Rama and another moment to go for Lakshmana..and techically a Kshatriya is entitled to take more then one wife..eg Dasharatha..so whats the big story Rama had to be faithful to one woman..

They could have just stopped Surphanaka physically instead of disfiguring a woman..which is so Adharmic and what about the episode where Rama kills Vaali from the back...Againts Kshatriya Dharmic code...So why should Ravana alone follow any Dharmic code of conduct?

disclaimer: this thought of mine holds good only if I view Ramayana purely from a human perspective..I mean no offense to Lord Rama and the Ramayana as I know its a divine play..
