I feel sometimes Mother's day is highly overrated.It just some commercial ploy.And the whole display of emotions and sentiment makes one feel uneasy.
I always wondered how can some people just display emotions on one day and be back to their normal selves the next day.

I used to find it nauseating sometimes to see some fake display of emotions by some adults I know.
They will smother their mum with cakes,gifts and expensive dinners on Mother's day and the whole year round do not even give them the due respect or even listen to them.
Seen this many times.


I like what my son told me..he was going to click send and email a newspaper editorial about Mother's day but my mum saw what he wrote and told him not to send it.

My son had written that "without man there will be no mothers and without mothers there will be no man, so we need both in the world not just mother or father.
Better have a Parents day to be fair to both"

I understand your sentiment, but not everyone is like you.
So at least on one day they make extra effort to celebrate the mother or father is appreciated. Some times parents are so hungry for love that even this commercialized version is better than nothing.

I agree, any day is my mother's day for me. What other great thing I could do now for my mother than remembering her for ever. I would add one more line to my earlier post #3/13.5.2012.

Undying love for mother..The movie Mannan is aired here in M'sia every year for Mother's day ever since the movie was produced.

I can see all men sort of get sentimental when this song plays.Actually I have realized that men are more sentimental about relationships than women.Technically men are the weaker sex.
Women might just shout and cry more but inside sentiments don't really moves us as much as it moves men.

To me some how I feel Norman Bates had Undying Love for his mother.
So who is your choice?? Rajini or Norman Bates.

This year it was really funny..cos one day before Mother's day some Tamil movie about a psychopathic killer who kills women who cheat their husband was shown.
I cant remember the name of the movie but it was a well taken.

It touched upon the subject of adultery and how a woman leaves her family for a lover and her husband ends up killing the lover and the wife kills the husband for that.
Worse part is she frames her 12 year old son by saying he killed the father.

So the boy becomes the ultimate psycho.

I was thinking wow something new for Mother's day eve but next day for Mother's day Mannan movie was shown again.

I am also a Mother and I certainly feel very human and nothing more.
All mothers love their children but frankly speaking loving our flesh and blood is no great feat cos the feeling of mine and thine is just human.

To me the greatest mother is the one who can love every other child just like her own.

Thats why I feel the bond of any sort of love loosens as we age..so that we are mentally prepared for the grave.
Its not being pessimistic but just a retrospective study of humans and emotions.

For example..just notice any young baby..its dependent 100% on parents,
when a child is bigger he get independent and less dependent on parents,he acquires knowledge(dependent on teacher and co students).
then he gets married..dependent for love from spouse and the has children..and then life moves to a different stage as a person grows older.

I feel our religion prepares us to be less sentimental in life hence prescribed the Four stages of life.

1)Brahmacarya
2)Grishasta
3)Vanaprastha
4)Sanyas

Mentally religion prepares us for the ultimate journey of self realization.We ourselves hardly realize that we are actually loosening some bonds in our life.
No one actually holds on to anything too tight finally.

A father can fall on the feet of a son who is a Sanyasi, But a Sanyasi can fall on the feet of his mother alone with great reverence and respect and not to any one, including his father.

Yes, many grown up, realistic and knowledgeable adults are going apart without holding on too tight. BUT, a Mother never ever keep her children away from her heart, no matter how far away she has been left alone, how old she got and how matured she turned.

This year even my dad got all sentimental and wrote a write up on Mother's day in the newspaper.
I was asking him "appa are you Ok?"

Very long time before, I came across an article in a magazine. It was all about the emotional feelings of ladies.

It could substantiate the points in the article very well with what is generally understood by people in a society.

It concluded that, women are emotionally strong and are calculatingly perfect. They know how and where to lose ONLY to gain the most better. Women can not take anything that would not be of any special benefits to them and would not offer anything without anything great in return is possible.

But, this very same women get into a totally different mental make up when they attain mother hood and have a different attitude towards their children alone, as a mother. The expectations from the children may differ from women to women BUT generally they would be happy to offer as much as possible to their children without any regrets and calculating skills.

It is almost impossible to understand what a woman thinks and if she has good will towards a person. BUT, Mother-Child relationship is the only relationship where a mother can be well understood for her genuine Love, Care, Protection and Support.

Long live Motherhood!!! And long live her special attitudes towards her children!!!

Dear Ravi,

Yesterday night I was discussing with my husband that Maternal feelings are actually an Instinct.
Cos we also see it in the animal kingdom.Try taking a cub away from a tiger and she will tear you apart.

Even human females display some amount of fiercely aggressive behaviour in protecting their young.

Its natures protection mode of any newborn to ensure continuation of species.

And you know Ravi there is something known as Bonding.
When a baby is born..the feeling of attachment and love does not peak right away.
After a couple of days the feeling of bonding reaches its peak.
Thats why these days in hospitals babies are encouraged to be breast fed right away so that bonding develops faster.

Some private hospitals keep the new borns in the nursery and bottle feed them and that delays bonding of mother and child.
So basically all human emotions needs time and getting used to an individual.

I will give you another example..a mother grieves more if her offspring dies at an older age say some 4-5 years of age but grieves less if its a still birth.
Reason is cos bonding had not set in as much.In the case of still birth they havent really got to know the child so feelings are less.
I have seen this in hospital set up many times.

Maternal love comes in very much as an instinct of the feeling that "this is mine"
The Mamaiva feeling is actually in everyone of us.So for all practical purposes it comes under a attachment too.

In cases of mix up of infants at birth a mother believes that its her child and showers love on him/her.
Years later when the mix up is realized and the biological child is located most cases they still keep the child they brought up and only pay visits to the biological child.

Why does this happen? Cos of bonding and love and attachment to the child they brought up.
The parents and the biological child might not even develop a close bond.

So technically if we analyze every human relationship its boils down to Mamaiva(The feeling of Mine and Thine) and Motherhood is no exception.
Mothers need to feel strong bonds of attachment for biological reasons of continuation and protection of species.

Greetings.

What about the mothers who favour one child over the other? Who favour boys over the girls? What about the mothers who hate her own son due to MIL vs DIL fights? What about the mothers who drive the DIL to even suicide by continous pesterings?

I have seen all these cases. Been there; experienced some of them too.

Mother's day is way commercialised and overrated in my opinion.
