Even though I am a woman and a mother myself..I sometimes feel mothers are overated especially these days...
There might be some all sacrificing mothers in this world but when Mothers day is around..all sentiments fly high and mothers are overated.

After many years of being a doctor ..i realized many are born because of failure of contraception more than anything else...
Very few people actually plan their pregnancy for the sake of begtting a child..unless they are religous minded or having infertility problems....

Daily I have to convince my patients not to abort their babies(abortion is illegal in malaysia) and many of my Hindu patients think i am a muslim because i keep telling them that we have no right to take a life when it was we who got carried away with pleasure...They say normally Hindu doctors dont say all these and just carry out the abortion..

Well some get angry with me and go out of the clinic saying that i am not a helpful doctor..and many mostly muslims change their mind and keep the babies....

The best case was a lady who had just shaved her head for Thaipusam(happened last year) and a week after Thaipusam comes to my clinic and says.."Doc..I am pregnant..can you please give me the abortion pill..."

I looked at her and asked her..."why did you ever even shave your head for Lord Muruga if you have the intention to take a life of your own child?"
I told her to keep the child and plan for a ligation after the delivery..to which she did not agree and told me..."Dr are you Muslim?..."
I said no I am Hindu and she left the clinic angrily...
See if i were a muslim..she would have felt that those words of mine were justified..she got angry when I was speaking Tattvam..because a Hindu is not supposed to have any conscience according to Hindus themselves...

I sometimes laugh when people think i am a muslim(becos I dont wear my pottu and sindoor)..many a times i see Hindu women here..fully adorned with Pottu,sindoor,thali etc but asking for abortion..
so traditional..they wont even want to remove their Thali for an X ray..but willing to take life of their unborn child...cant they see ..If they can kill their own child..do they honestly feel by not removing their Thali for an Xray..they can save their husband?

well must tell them that Yama's noose does not see all that..

What your patient wanted to do is not worse than what goddess Ganga mercilessly did, is it? At least this woman wanted to only abort a fetus, not kill six beautiful babies one after another after birth.

A fetus is not a child. Before birth it is a fetus, not a child.

If it is legal, denying a woman what is her right is unacceptable. As a doctor, your personal morality should not interfere with your patient's rights, IMO.

Even if it was legal..I wont do it...becos i have no right to take life....I am no moral goddess myself but I feel I have no right even to be an instrument to cause death of a child(i still call a fetus a child)..you should see ultrasound images of babies..they are human and need the protection of a mother......

A woman who is capable of screwing with her husband should have the brains and responsibility to take contraception and these are not uneducated women i am talking about here...

you know..its not a personal moral code iam taking about..Its even in the Oath i have taken as a doctor...I am just doing my duty

Other doctors are doing it because its good money..and you should see the clinics of these doctors who do abortions..having an altar and do aarti and sambraani every friday..etc...
I have worked in a clinic before where I was a GP and the specialist used to do abortions(but i never helped)..
Every friday he used to put Sambraani and pray...He said to keep all unwanted spirits away and for luck...I felt like laughing but just kept quiet...


I am not all that a rigid moral person..see I even like Nithyananda I didnt see him as too morally wrong..

anna..i am quite soft hearted..I was not born a vegetarian..i became veg at the age of 20 becos i felt i have no right to take lifes to eat and I also gave up wearing silk sarees and using leather..becos it all involves loss of life..
I still remember as a child how i cried when my dad cut down a mango tree that failed to fruit..i cried saying "you killed the tree"...

Due you really feel what is legally correct is morally correct also? This is not a simple absolute legal right. A medical aspect also to be taken into consideration There are two Patients really in such situation demanding Abortion.Mother and unborn fetus . Abortion if associated with with risk to mother's life what you do? Doctors decision should over rule Patients right. Even in case where moral issues alone were considered (KUSHBOO) you had so much discussions in all media I think Doctor should be a better judge to decide in favor or against Abortions even though it is legalized with certain restriction. Doctor will decide on merit in individual case.Suppose the decision is negative can you still establish your right & force the doctor to do it ? In Our (doctors) forums it is not What is the legal stand I do not know. May be a verdict by SC can only settle this point. Jambu :nono:

Moral and ethical values override legal aspects when it comes to personal practice. At the same time we are not suppose to violate the law of the land.

Drinking alcoholic liquor is permitted under law in most of the states in India. But avoiding alcohol is definitely a better moral and ethical practice.

Among the followers of Sanathana Dharma, a substantial section doesn't take non-vegetarian food. Even Jains don't take non-veg food.It is definitely a noble practice eventhough there is no ban on taking it from legal angle.

Abortion may be permitted under law. But avoiding abortion may be a more ethical and moral practice.

As Dr Jambunathan pointed out, whatever Khushbu said may be correct legally. But for a dalith leader like Thirumavalavan, it is not morally and ethically correct.

I am going to share a paranormal incident with regards to abortion..
Once when I was working in another set up (before I opened my own)..I was doing the night shift at a clinic at the emergency room..
I used to work there once in a while only..on Locum basis..

This clinic had an operation room where deliveries were conducted..I wasnt aware that abortions also were done there as I only work in the emergency section..

Once I had to enter the operation room at about 12midnight to get a particular suture material to stich a patients wound in the emergency room.

When I walked into the operation room..i was about to switch on the light when i felt a small hand carress my face and blow lightly on my face and i heard a small voice cry out..these words" Maa"...
I was not scared but felt that there was a something there looking for attention..it felt like a baby.....

i asked the other staff the next day whether abortions were carried out in the operation room and they said yes...

See that...what abortions can do...a poor baby haunting the place..looking for its mother...poor life cut short...

Very true. My wife is a doctor and I also hear of such cases. These people and their supporters (some well educated mind you) lack elementary common sense in understanding this. After behaving irresponsibly they suddenly pretend to be 'enlightened' when faced with the consequences of their actions. They quote generously from the scriptures and try to rationalise their abortion by talking about brahman no less! Of course it was not brahman that screwed around. If there was only brahman who is there to screw with whom? Let them get angry with you and go to another doctor. You are better off without such filth as your patients. Mind you there would be a few cases like rape and the mothers health condition where an abortion may be necessary. But all too often women resort to abortion as an easy way out.

These people are irresponsible and usually arrogant & abusive. but never ignorant I use to argue with my Professor when I was working in the Department of V.D. why should we treat them free when they pay to get the disease!. There is a Government order irrespective of status all investigation asked for and treatment given is free. My Professor explained that if he is not treated his wife & their off springs could be affected for no fault of them. The treatment is more to protect the family. So with the moral responsibility thrust on us we insisted that Husband bring his spouse & family for treatment & screening which most of the times fell on deaf ears The result these morons go to a quack for a prick of Penidure . Insufficient dose halfhearted treatment etc resulted in secondary and tertiary stages Syphilis few going in for GPI (stage of paralysis & insanity )

True....God is omnipotent..

Kadavul thoonliyum iruppan, thurumbillum iruppan, entha roobathalaiyum irupppan...But only in human form God can satisfy a human by his love and care. In a most critical time when we find our self helpless, a stranger / passerby comes to our rescue and make us feel that God in the form of a human has protected us.

Mother is portrayed as a human form of God, who from a very beginning stage of unconsciousness to the stage of resting for ever, loves, cares, protects and wishes the best of luck for each of her child.

In Malaysia..abortions are legally allowed for in cases where the mothers life is in danger and non compatabilty of fetus with life..eg Hydops fetalis..

These cases are handled by the Obs & Gyn specialist at a Goverment or Private medical centres..but rapes cases are not legally allowed to abort.

Ok you guys want to hear this..One friend of mine was doing locum in a private general practise and one day he saw a nurse blending something in the blender..red colored juice..he thought she was preparing a fruit punch and asked her if he could have some...to his horror he was told that the owner of the clinic had just done an abortion for a 3 months fetus and she was blending it before flushing it down in the toilet..my friend stopped his work there the next day...

As of now the person who reached 7th level in this life is OSHO(bothsatva) , J.Krishnamurthy (Arhat). These two are well known to the world for the revolution they created in the society thrughout the world.

I love treating STD patients..they are the politest patients I have seen so far and they also like me a lot..dont know why..
i also follow the same procedure..treat the partners...to prevent spread of a disease..i dont really care what they do whether they are faithful to wife/husband but i keep reminding them to practise safe sex..i never tell them to be faithful..becos no one will..once they have been exposed to the world of the "unfaithful"..only a disease like HIV will make them repent..
So I can only preach safe sex..Reciting the word Condom like a mantra to them..

I might be firm to a patient who wants to do abortion for no rhyme or reason medically..
Some of my patients have changed their minds and kept their babies after listening to my advice and bring their babies back to see me and have thanked me that i stopped them and you know most of the while these children are always so fond of me..and even their parents have commented that" my child is just so fond of you..may be becos you told me not to abort him/her.."

I am not saying this to potray myself as a good or perfect individual but just sharing with everyone here what actaully happened...
I am no perfect person myself..but just trying to share what i have seen in life so far...thats all..

No sir, I don't think so. Law often is an ass. But my point was not that, it is about one person's legal right, and a different person's moral qualms. To what extent would you allow somebody else to impose their morality upon you?

Drs., I have to disagree. Unless it is an emergency where there is no time for consultations, the ultimate decision must be that of the patient. The duty of the medical professionals is to educate them and serve as a resource.

Suppose the decision is negative can you still establish your right & force the doctor to do it ?

Many of these cases are not clear cut, open and shut. Where it is straight forward a woman's right must supersede the moral qualms of the physician. There are many reasons why a woman may want to terminate a pregnancy. I think it is abhorrent to make a moral judgment about the woman simply based on the choice she has made for her own reasons.

Dear Iyest, I was the one who cited Brahman. You can address me directly. I am willing to discuss this further if you so wish. All I request is that our exchanges be free of condescending comments -- only a request.

If the pregnant woman happens to be a jeevan mukta and terminates her pregnancy, would that be immoral? If so, why? A jeevan mukta should know perfectly well that all this is just adhyasa.

Lord Sri Krishna says jeeva cannot be killed, only body. So, an abortion only takes away the yet not fully formed body of a jeeva. The jeeva gets released to transmigrate elsewhere. The karma involved will act on the individuals in due course of time. If one buys into this theory, why should abortion be a moral issue for a third person?
