Am worried what will happen if the breaches happen...With last night heavy rains I guess the situation would be precarious to say the least!

An AIADMK leader claimed that government was better prepared than US and UK but, the ground reality seemed to be otherwise.

Kamal Haasan warned the state government via Twitter yesterday, pointing out a few lakes that are in the surrounding regions of the Chennai. After his comment, India Today's team went for 'rain-check' and found shocking situations of the lakes which were overflowing water which was entering into the nearby houses.
Not even three days into the monsoon, the state has worsened for the ones who reside near the lakes.
Here's what Kamal Haasan had tweeted:
The South-West and North-West parts of Chennai are on the verge of getting submerged. It won't take much time for Selayur lake, Kuduvanjeri-Nandhivaram belt lake, and Narayanapuram Mudichur lake to overflow. Neither the water conservationists, nor the people know these facts. They know the water entry point or the draining point. To be more specific, the facts were hidden so that the land could be encroached, which is the bitter truth. A building which was blocking the path for water to flow from Nanmangalam to another lake was to be demolished as per court in 2015 itself. Even then, the law is being breached. The media should help in creating awareness among the people in that region and help them voice their sufferings. Prevention is better than cure. Let's wake up.
The first point was the Nanmangalam Lake, where the water levels have increased and moved 20 meters towards the main road. The water levels in the region are brimming and the houses close to the lake are already touching the water levels.
"There have been several complaints given to the local panchayat office but no action is being taken, the water levels are increasing and seeping into houses. They should have de-silted the lake and also increased the depth of the lake. But, the government didn't do any of it. They are only concerned about themselves," said Ponraj, a resident of Nanmangalam.
At Salaiyur, a locality in east Tambaram, the situation was observed to be worse than Nanmangalam as the sewage water got mixed with the lake water entered the nearby houses. It was a sorrowful sight to see the families trying to safeguard their belongings from the lake water. Neighbouring to this lake, is the Tambaram Air Force base camp, what the government is doing to ensure the safety of the 1000 plus residents in this area is now a big question.
With the monsoon just setting in, intense rains are expected to hit the city and neighbouring areas. The ill preparedness for the monsoon is clearly staring at the government in its face. Keeping in mind the situation, claiming a better preparedness than UK and US has become the butt of all jokes after an AIADMK leader commented on how the government is handling the rain-situation.
