I am appalled at the comments made here about 'echchil' and love.
People in love share body fluids, but that does not mean they do it in public, that would be porn.
In this day and age, being aware of hygiene we need to take care of our surroundings.
In most of the places in buffet line you are asked not to bring your used plates, instead take a new one.
Should you share your body fluids if you know you have active deceases like AIDS, hepatitis, or other communicable diseases?
There is place for love and a place for decorum. Let us not confuse the issues.

Dear Prasad ji,

Obviously no one shares bodily fluids in public!LOL

My comment was what is the big deal for a husband and wife to share each others Ecchil food with each other?

Why see each other as invading pathogens?

This is what I was talking about..personally I see no problems in sharing a plate of food with a person I am married too ..it kinds of make you feel close...one need not restrict sharing of food only at home.

Even boyfriends and girlfriends share food from same plate and share 1 glass of drink with 2 straws.

Post #371:
Your kind of ignoring seems never to miss a post of mine not just to read but to respond as well albeit indirectly. I am getting smothered with all this ignoring LOL!

I am doing a service. To make the newcomers here become aware of the history without going into the archives.

I am sure if people like Vaagmi are representatives of present day SV they will surely like to come after me, perhaps they can take a leaf out of their rival Brahmins and even have me taken out சதக் சதக் style. But the fact remains, Azhavars views on equal treatment is consistent with
my views than the present day SVs, although azhvars wanted it only among SVs, but I want the circle extended to all humanity. Also, I don't have to shout from anywhere, the Azhvars themselves have done it, and also, many believe, erroneously I might add, that the SV patron acharya Ramanuja did just that, literally.

There is no cure for delusions and paranoia. All humanity wants equal treatment and banks by equal treatment even while keenly aware of differences among human beings. There is no need to harp on that unless deep down in your mind you are troubled either by ill-treatment meted out to you or ill-treatment meted out to some one else by you and your kin. If you have a troubled conscience go and adopt a SC/ST child and bring him/her up or extend finance to a helpless poor SC/ST boy/girl for higher studies in US. You may even accommodate him/her in your house as a guest while studying there. No need to keep lecturing about need for equality etc which are known facts. That settles the issue for you. To sum up understand this: Not only Alwars, Commentators, Acharyas, Rishis, and ordinary brahmins like me but also every one in the society wants equal treatment and readily gives equal treatment to others. When Alwars spoke they did not have this 20th century politics of yours in their mind. Please understand that. To go back and pick up Alwars, Acharyas etc and point out episodes (without understanding anything about them) from their life is like again that தீப்பொறி in the street corner shouting about Siva, Parvati, Aiyappan-Aapaasam, etc., etc., You have learnt all wrong things from dubious sources. Every time you come out with some eloquent nonsense you are asking to be smothered and I will come there to handle it. Be sure. LOL.

Sesham is not leftovers on the dining table. That should settle issue here. Just as someone played some mischief once in this forum with Alwar's words Kolmin, Kodumin "கொள்மின் கொடுமின்" taking it out of context to load his pet theme of IC/IR marriages to Alwar's words, here he has quietly played another mischief by quoting an Acharya (Desikan) out of context. And the culprit is gloating over his achievement. Some knowledge sharing this. LOL.

moral of the story after reading all the posts
veg or non veg is personal choice
you can be non veg abroad but when you are in india act veg in order not to displease your relatives
eichil food is good for wives and maids in private and is pleasurable and not to be done in public place
even dresses ,do in rome as romans do
have I missed out anything

Hello Dinesh,

I would like to add to the valuable advice given by Renuka and Prasad.

We are not the only vegetarians. The Saiva Vellala Pillais of Tamil Nadu are also Vegetarians. The Jains are strict vegetarians. Being a Vegetarian is accepted in India.

Technology and science does not prevent you from performing Sandhyavandanam, reciting Gayatri or being Vegetarian. Many of our top scientists perform Sandhyavandanam, recite Gayatri and are Vegetarians. Even their extended stay abroad has not made them take to non-Vegetarian food.

The choice is yours to make.

But please avoid arguments about these as it does not help. Your friends will accept you. But again as it was said in the earlier posts you have to accept others also. It is reciprocal.

Religion is purely personal. Do not wear it on your sleeve.

About 70 years back, when my grandfather who was a very orthodox Brahmin (with Kudumi) left for the Court, he used to remove the Vibhuthi mark. He used to say that as a Judge he should not be seen as representing a religion or caste. My father told me this. He followed that. I carefully remove all religious markings done during my Puja when I go out. I was extremely careful to do it when I was working. Now that I am not working it does not matter all that much.
dear sir it would be better not to advise on how to live like a coward what is wrong with moving around with religious markings. why your forefather who cleaned vibhuthi from his forehead preferred to retain kudumi is it because everyone during that time had a kudumi. he might have taken this decision probably he might not want to stand apart from the crowd. sorry if i have hurt your feelings. but i cannot resist myself from writing these words

Reason is obvious! Writing in forum once in a blue moon. :typing:

Score: Two posts on 29 - 9 - 11, three posts on 7 - 10 - 11 and two more on 11 - 4 - 14!

Total = Seven posts since Sep 2011.

It is because of the excessive stress and proper veg food is not there in USA and other foreign countries also..People who are paid less offshore allowance have no other go..

More than veg or non-veg the satvic food matters more...if we eat more salt, sour and chilli products we are no better than a non-vegetarian..A person who is non-veg but eats with less salt, sour and chilli products is more satvic than a brahmin

Dear Vaithehi,

How does eating Non Veg still fall under Sattvic? Going by this definition people of the Far east eat Non veg food but they use very less spices and chili and salt so does that mean they are Sattvik?

Sattvic food criteria is not vegetables or not cooked food..we eat now more spicy than a westerner..even rishi valmiki, vishwamitra eat non-veg food...when vishwamitra came to vashista ashramam...goat meat was server to vishwamitra..
Even christian saints ate non veg food..Even Jesus eat non-veg..that does not mean that they are rajasic and they never advocated killing for the pleasure...but now a days everything is done for pleasure sake...VALLUVAR told "SEVIKKU UNAVU ILLATHA PODU VAYITRUKKU IYYAPPADUM.." now we do the opposite.

I'm saying SATVIC Food does not mean vegetrainisam but you can say yogic food or satva food without salt, tamarind, chilli powder, masala powder, etc.,i'm not advocating non-veg eating but when there is a need for a man to survive he/she has to eat something..blaunt food are less rajasic ...may not be satvic...but even brahmins in bengal eat fish...

For your information i'm working in a christian school where people are more satvic than my husband

Aiyoo Vaithehi,

We are Eastern women..husband is Kankanda Deivam..why are you saying some other people are more Sattvic than your husband??

Shiva Shiva!

100% vegetarian boy here. Except I eat onion and garlic. Good fit for where I currently stay (Gujarat). :)

To each his own I guess.

^No, madam, what I meant to say is that in Gujarat Jains and some Brahmins are very strict about not eating onion and garlic, to the extent that in some areas foods (even fast foods) will always be served in a "jain" and non-jain version. Sometimes the "onion" flavoured potato chips are simply not available. So in that sense I do eat regularly both onion and garlic and in some circles that may be considered as undesirable. I have heard certain Tamil Brahmins also avoid Garlic and Onion.
