The government has done what a nervous administration can do. They have arrested Anna Hazare and his aides even before starting the hunger strike.

As the day is progressing swelling crowd pour support to Anna Hazare.

Will this snowball into a major nationwide movement leading to fall of the government? Did not the govt use a spade when a pin was enough?

Congress party in India never Cares about The Criticizer.

In fact there is no Connection between The Freedom Fighters of Those days and Present Congress men.

V.O.C spared all his property and belongings for the sake of Country.

K.Kamaraj led a very simple living till he dies. In fact after his death There were only Rs 832/- rupees found in his house.

Ex Congress Minister Kakkan was in a Hut at the time of his death.

While Typing this I had a Fine Memory of Shri K.Kamaraj happened in Tirunelveli.

During 1960s Central Theater was Constructed. At that Time K.K was not the C.M of Tamil Nadu but he is the Leader of Congress party.

Mrs Rajathi Kunjitha Patham was the MLA at that Time.

She came to Central Theater for a Film in Thasildar's Jeep.

Unfortunately Shri K.K saw Govt Jeep in a Theater.

He called the Then Collector of Tirunelveli Shri Pasupathy and Ordered Theater Staff and inquired who used the Govt Jeep for Film.

The Theater Staff informed him that MLA came in Thasildar's Jeep.

He immediately Scolded the Driver and Ordered him to take away the Jeep from the Spot and park it in Govt Shed.

Without the Knowledge of MLA The Driver Took away the Jeep from the Spot.

As soon as the Film is over MLA found that the Jeep along with Driver is missing in spot.

She inquired the Theater Staff and came to know that Shri K.K came to Theater and ordered to vacate the Govt Jeep.

She was totally Disturbed and rushed to see Shri K.K in Circuit House.

Shri K.K scolded her and warned her that She Must Not Mis Use Govt property and Govt Staff for her Personal Purpose.

She requested Apologies to Shri K.K and Those periods are Golden Days of Indian Democracy.

Mr. Shankar Naryan,

I request you not to compare Mr. Kamaraj with any of the politicians now, those are people believed in principles and today we have people who believed in money more than principles. In this particular scenario I want to give you a modern example which happened in Andhra.

In Andhra as all of you know there is an agitation going on for a separate state of telengana when congress MLAs were asked to resign they were thinking that they haven’t earned enough money to go in for the elections. I don’t know whether these people are eligible for at least to take KK name.

In case anna the govt. has fully under estimated his following which has led to chaos, the govt. was looking at some where around 10 to 15 thousand supporters, now its too late for the govt. to step back, they could see that its growing exponentially and this will lead to washout of congress.

I totally agree that Kamaraj and Kakkan period was the Golden Days of Indian Democracy.

....But, these days, people have changed... all most ALL, including politicians, police, judges and others, are involved in either Bribe Giving and/or Bribe Taking... and our politics reflect that...

Anna Hazare & Party do not understand that it is the Problem of the Society at large... not just the politicians. We need to think in terms of Cultural Change, not just making one more Law: there are very many laws against Corruption already on the books - even the PM can be sued using the current law - a stronger Lokpal is not going to solve anything.

Anna Hazare is a very naive person... he has his rights to Hunger Strike sitting in his house. He can't violate the Section 144 of CrPC of India.

That's why he is in Tihar... he can walk out anytime by signing a Personal Affidavit that he will obey the laws of the land.

Wait & watch.

ps. If Anna wants a real strict Lokpal law, then he must obey such strict laws regarding peaceful assembly and against Public Nuisance... he is acting against his own teachings here... this shows he is NOT a serious person, but just a Showman! Lol

Anna Hazare arrested

Seeing the countrywide support to Anna The Govt will release him soon on one or other pretext.
Alwan

The whole thing will fizzle out, either at Anna's camp or at govt's camp. There could be compromise or acceptable via-media on the inclusion of PM and Judiciary without any teeth to punish them. Millions of Indians are busy hitting the keys mbs and pcs and ltops. Good numbers are watching the rotten tv serials and others are commuting to work and so on... Though a few massive ships were washed ashore, the coast guards are busy on the high seas monitoring nobody knows what.

anna hazare is a 'taliban gandhi', who doesnt understand the working principles of democratic parliamentarian system.

no wonder, he is just a 7th std pass.

if he succeed in putting all his whims and fancies to 'lok pal bill' , wait, the big thing is yet to come..

his next hunger strike will be for a 'maratha bill' seeking 70% reservation for marathas in mumbai.

get rid of these weeds

why not call anna's bluff, and see how far he can withstand hunger? :)

we have elections to get rid of governments. this type of street style blackmail and thuggery is not good for democracy. or the long term interests of the country.

I fully support Anna Hazare.

Compared to the laws which politicans have broken, a few so-called 'laws' which anna hazare has broken is nothing.

If only we could have the money back (in billions) which politicians have stashed away in swiss banks..then imagine how many schools, universities, hospitals, small scale factories, manufacturing industries, airports, roads, housing projects, various projects for underprivileged, etc the country could have built...

Anna Hazare is not doing any drama, nor was Baba Ramdev...The real drama players are the politicians who oppose Hazare and Baba Ramdev..These politicians come up with inane loopholes to trap Hazare, lathicharge peaceful gatherings, they malign Baba Ramdev, jail Hazare,.....

Those who malign Baba Ramdev should visit Patanjali Yogpeeth once before talking (to see the good work they are doing and to see how poor people are given free treatment)..

Shame on the UPA folks...

Now the situation reminds me of the famous Malayalam Saying நாயர் பிடிச்ச புலிவால்.
The "know-alls" who run this Government mishandled the issue from the day one and got into this mess.

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

Though I agree that such fasting exercises are not good in the long run, I want to know what is the solution to this corruption mess.

The most intelligent thing is if any activist can gather public support he can change the tide and increase vigilance. If tighter laws cannot solve the corruption issue, then there is no need for the Government to fear. But they are afraid about something. That is because their hands are dirty and certain laws can put them in. The king's throne itself may be threatened by such laws. Hence the desperation.

In India people get elected no doubt as in a democracy. But did they not get elected by creating public nuisance, using false promises, bribing the votors, favoring their special caste segments and so on. In this case Anna has attempted to gather the public to act against the corrupt. I think it is the right tactics against the right people. However I am in serious doubt whether it will be auccess. At grassroots the real population of India, are still not conscious of the enormous need to discipline public life. This will therefore end in a whimper, a few rich and middle class ( only those who have time after work) will support this cause. There is not even the same fire as the anti-reservation protests inspite of this being a more wide cause. It is bound to fizzle out.

The main issue at present for the Central Government is not Lokpal Bill or any damn bill. The netas are having sleepless nights on finding a strategy how to deal with Anna Hazare who is turning to be a pain in the neck for the Government.

hi
the corruption is not a new thing in india.....like bofors kick backs....even indira gandhi admitted abt corruption...if ppl has real power in

democracy....we can remove our govt at any time.....kick backs are very common in vote bank democracy....its inevitable...just

in recent TN election is real example....

Hmmm...looks like there is going to be some action at Ramlila maidan. The public support is overwhelming...Looks like the aam aadmi sees himself in Ramdev and Hazare. And hence supports them.

Atleast Anna Hazare is continuing his fast thanks to people support. Baba Ramdev also should have continued his fast but instead of supporting him even some people close to him were keen on demoralizing him and pulling him down.

Hope Anna Hazare succeeds. Hope Baba Ramdev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, etc, (everyone who cares) will come out in full force and support the Lokpal bill (including people like Naga sadhus )..

But most importantly, hope Anna Hazare stays safe. UPA seems keen to have him off their back somehow or the other. The way UPA is opposing Hazare merely shows how much they stand to lose if lokpal bill gets implemented.

Subbudu sir, looks like except the manasaakshi there is no other way to deal with corruption. The next time if we are in a situation to give or receive bribe let us think twice, spend a moment with our conscience and then proceed...prob is we are desensitized to corruption...shameful really...

I have been watching Anna Hazare & Co for quite sometime... I agree Corruption is the Monster that everyone wants to slay.. the question is HOW? Because the participants are nearly EVERYONE in India: from ordinary people to all powerful police, judiciary, CMs and all others in between... even the educated youths believe they have the RIGHT to bribe their way up, and jump the lines... they don't want to follow any Rule or Regulation. Bribe Givers are as much responsible as the Bribe Takers in this crime. So we have a Cultural Problem.

I get the feeling that Anna is very naive about the issues of corruption, and he believes his way is the right way and the only way, and he is bent upon creating a law and order situation in the Capital and elsewhere.

Political activism is GOOD.. but we can't create a pandemonium such that anti-social elements would be encouraged to set fire to India... please recall what happened in London recently.

Lokpal Bill is tabled in the Parliament. Let the members argue on it.. make amendments, work with the Standing Committee and bring the final product as good as most people would like... Anna Team can work with an Alternate Jan Lokpal Bill and present it to the Parliament.. and see how the members vote for it.

Parliament is the ultimate authority in passing any Bill into Law.. not a single personality like Anna Hazare...We MUST protect the Parliamentary Democracy at all and any cost.

Delhi Police have acted right.. the Magistrate sent Anna to Tihar, and now he has withdrawn his order.. Anna can leave the jail, go to a place where he can continue with his Hunger Strike... but he just can't create a mayhem as it happened at the Ramlila Ground sometime ago: there was fire and possibility of many deaths.

We respect the Democratic Process, AND the dignity of life for ALL citizens, not just for a few vocal people.

Wait & watch.

ps. BJP/NDA wants to use this occasion to get some political mileage: for them a problem of law and order is "God-send" and Anna Hazare is providing them with such an emotional situation.. India needs a Viable Responsible Opposition.

'hang the corrupt! this is what the law the infantiles, anna & baba, wanted in the bill.

it may sound juicy to ears of those knee jerk thinkers, but looking at the practicality it gives an entirely shocking picture.

ransparency international in India finds that more than 45% of Indians had first-hand experience of paying bribes. every second indian is a corrupt, a probability equal to tossing a coin, either anna or baba would have a good chance to be corrupt, and baba has already been signaled to be one.

if so, 450 million will have a good chance to be put on the death noose.

ho many percentage out of that 450Mn would be MLA/MP/Babus/minister/govt employee (even if we assume all of them as corrupt? very minuscule, may be 2%.. so who holds the major shade in the corrupt pie chart? he is our Aam Admi !!

now anna wants the corruption cases to be cleared within 1 year. here he miserably failed to understand the strengths and weakness of our 'judicial system' which is quite respected globally.

its strength: our legal system strongly believes and enforces this ethic 'it is better to let million guilty men
free than to convict one innocent man'. unlike usa, have you read any regular stories in india of an innocent being sentenced to death? its weakness, is its piling cases and slow trial, which takes more than 20 years to deliver a judgment. even 2 decades after assassinating a P.M, the convicts are still alive. this is a real situation of our legal system. with a stoke of a button manmohan singh or any may not be able to change a system over night to work effectively and efficient by 900%. even if all judges work 24/7, it cannot be achieved.

this is the typical problem with these kind of people, who walk with new shoes to discuss about laws/bills/constitution/democracy without having any iota of idea about legal system.

with due respect to APJ.Kalam, when it comes to the understanding the democracy/political system, he flunked and fell flat embarrassingly many a times in his job as president.

in a country where even the eminent scientist APJ Kalam found it difficult to grasp it, how can all these points enter the head of a 70+ year old, 7th std pass army-truck driver who got inducted in to army despite not meeting the physical requirements?

as P.M MM sigh put it rightly today "annas path was "totally misconceived" and fraught with "grave consequences" for Parliamentary democracy"

let anna dont poke his nose in the subjects where he has not expertize.

with his long experience as an truck-driver, may be he should try his anti-corruption movement by gathering all cabbies in delhi, making them vouch not to give bribe, and fight against those corrupt traffic cops & RTO's. let every trucks carry annas picture, to scare the cops. here I agree, he is indeed an expert in that subject !

Dear Yamaka,

I have been watching Anna Hazare & Co for quite sometime... So we have a Cultural Problem.

bribe givers and takers cannot be clubbed together. A bribe giver is under duress and that makes all the difference. It is not as if he goes to an authority and says "look here I have a Rs. 5000/- please take it and give me a water connection to my house." Nor will it be true that the taker has no other go than to accept the bribe to give the water connection. Equivocqtion in such situation can be dangerous. Bribe will disappear only when there is fear to demand and take it. Anna Hazare is trying to institutionalize an effective supervisory mechanism which will keep vigil over powerful people so that they do not dare to take bribe.

I get the feeling that Anna is very naive about the issues of corruption, and he believes his way is the right way and the only way, and he is bent upon creating a law and order situation in the Capital and elsewhere.

The facts speak otherwise. He has a good grip of what is needed and is in a single minded pursuit of it. It is the police/Government which is creating a law and order situation to denigrate Anna's movement.

Political activism is GOOD.. but we can't create a pandemonium such that anti-social elements would be encouraged to set fire to India... please recall what happened in London recently.

It is peaceful protest that Anna is indulging in and not creating pandemonium. Anti-socials not getting in is the head ache of Police because they know who are the antisocials.

Lokpal bill in its present form is a jokepal bill. It is a toothless wonder. In Parliament what is in the bill can only be debated and not what is not there. Anna wanted the bill itself do be discussed with his group of activists before introduction in the house. But Government over-ruled him. What is the Govt. afraid of?

Parliament is the ultimate authority in passing any Bill into Law.. not a single personality like Anna Hazare...We MUST protect the Parliamentary Democracy at all and any cost.

In India people have lost their trust in the ability of parliamentarians to eradicate corruption. So they are not ready to accept the mantra that parliament is supreme. If people want some changes which are not liked by parliamentarians, whose will will prevail? People's or MPs'? Anna is not just an individual today. He represents the common man's frustration with the politicians and their corrupt practices.

Delhi Police have acted right.. the Magistrate sent Anna to Tihar, and now he has withdrawn his order.. Anna can leave the jail, go to a place where he can continue with his Hunger Strike... but he just can't create a mayhem as it happened at the Ramlila Ground sometime ago: there was fire and possibility of many deaths
.

Delhi police is drifting with the current. Anna is not on a private vratham in his house for improving his digestive system. His fast is a symbolic protest. He is desperate to draw the Govt.'s attention to a serious problem which it is refusing to take note. So he needs to fast in public view. What was in disply in Ramlila grounds is the ineptness of the Govt/police.

We respect the Democratic Process, AND the dignity of life for ALL citizens, not just for a few vocal people.

When the so called democratic process wants to keep some powerful positions out of reach of public scrutiny they become subverted democratic processes. A few vocal people do not want to enact a law outside the parliament. They have a certain solution and they want Govt. to seriously consider them.

ps. BJP/NDA wants to use this occasion to get some political mileage: for them a problem of law and order is "God-send" and Anna Hazare is providing them with such an emotional situation.. India needs a Viable Responsible Opposition.

India needs a ruling coalition which is alive and responsive to the needs of its citizens: not a motley crowd which sees only a conspiracy in every move of opposition parties.

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

an apt saying in "Ariyaatha pillaikku choriyumbhol ariyum"

interestingly, you can refer this to both the sides :)

Dear Raju:

I hear you.. my response is in bold letters below... India must follow the Parliamentary Procedures, and maintain law and order. Police must act proactively to prevent loss of lives and property.

Dear Yamaka,
bribe givers and takers cannot clubbed together. A bribe giver is under duress.

1. How many people have said, "Oh, I just can't wait in the line... I will throw some money and jump the line! Who has the patience to get your turn?". Granted people's needs are very many; all of them needs to be met in an orderly manner. If some people resort to jump the line, then where is the simple justice? I am equally critical of bribe takers... many times, they delay.. delay and wait for an offer of bribe. I maintain both bribe GIVERS and the bribe TAKERS are equally responsible for the CRIME.

The facts speak otherwise. He has a good grip of what is needed and is in a single minded pursuit of it. It is the police/Government which is creating a law and order situation to denigrate Anna's movement.

2. Anna Team can work with the Opposition and present their Jan Lokpal Bill for consideration, following the procedures.. The question here is how many MPs will support his Bill over the Bill from the Executive Branch.. I only ask him to follow the Parliamentary Procedures.. If his Bill is defeated, then he must accept that defeat.. Is he willing to abide by the Parliamentary Democracy?

It is peaceful protest that Anna is indulging in and not creating pandemonium. Anti-socials not getting in is the head ache of Police because they know who are the antisocials.

3. Since the political rhetoric is heating up, the Police must act preemptively.. luckily, so far there is no loss of life or property; what if something bad happens? Delhi Police has the responsibility to protect ALL people and all properties.

Lokpal bill in its present form is a jokepal bill. It is a toothless wonder. In Parliament what is in the bill can only be debated and not what is not there. Anna wanted the bill itself do be discussed with his group of activists before introduction in the house. But Government over-ruled him. What is the Govt. afraid of?

4. The members can offer amendments as per the Parliamentary Procedures.. and see whether members support such amendments.. Anna is very egoistical it appears... he is of the type "My Way or No Way"...that will not work, he should know that... there are very many Legal and Constitutional Scholars who know the complexities of Corruption, Law making and Implementation.. The Standing Committee will listen to them.. and recommend the Right Bill to the Parliament for voting... Anna is becoming a Dictator... Is this what India wants?

In India people have lost their trust in the ability of parliamentarians to eradicate corruption. So they are not ready to accept the mantra that parliament is supreme. If people want some changes which are not liked by parliamentarians, whose will will prevail? People's or MPs'? Anna is not just an individual today. He represents the common man's frustration with the politicians and their corrupt practices.

5. Let people speak their mind at the time of Election.. What's the position of BJP/NDA Opposition on this Lokpal Bill? Where is their Bill? They are Opportunistic - they did not give their serious input on this matter... they are waiting for some Mayhem to follow - to steal things from a burning house! Lol.
.

Delhi police is drifting with the current. Anna is not on a private vratham in his house for improving his digestive system. His fast is a symbolic protest. He is desperate to draw the Govt.'s attention to a serious problem which it is refusing to take note. So he needs to fast in public view. India needs a ruling coalition which is alive and responsive to the needs of its citizens: not a motley crowd which sees only a conspiracy in every move of opposition parties.

6. This must be decided at the time of National Election.. and the sharp contrast between the Political Manifesto of the Incumbents and Other Opposition.

Cheers.

Peace.

Dear Shiv,

'hang the corrupt! this is what the law the infantiles, anna & baba, wanted in the bill. it may sound juicy to ears of those knee jerk thinkers, but looking at the practicality it gives an entirely shocking picture.

"infantiles, kneejerk thinkers" ......It appears you have a poor understanding of the people with Anna Hazare. Please read the list fully and come back with the names. We can discuss.

ransparency international in India finds that more than 45% of Indians had first-hand experience of paying bribes. every second indian is a corrupt, a probability equal to tossing a coin, either anna or baba would have a good chance to be corrupt, and baba has already been signaled to be one.if so, 450 million will have a good chance to be put on the death noose.

What specious argument ! and a convoluted logic. I give a bribe because I am under duress. You will deny me a ration-card if I do not pay up and on that card depends my life. I may or may not get rice, wheat, cooking oil, kerosene, gas or even subsidised medical treatment when I am sick depending on whether I get that card or not. When you hold the gun to my head and demand what else do you expect. I do not want to become a martyr in my struggle against corruption because my other struggle-the struggle for survival- is more urgent and immediate. But you have made me angry by your demanding bribe in a very very deep way and I will wait for my day. When Anna Hazare announced his agenda I am able to identify myself totally with him.

ho many percentage out of that 450Mn would be MLA/MP/Babus/minister/govt employee (even if we assume all of them as corrupt? very minuscule, may be 2%.. so who holds the major shade in the corrupt pie chart? he is our Aam Admi !!

This argument does not wash for what I have explained above.

now anna wants the corruption cases to be cleared within 1 year. here he miserably failed to understand the strengths and weakness of our 'judicial system' which is quite respected globally.its strength: our legal system strongly believes and enforces this ethic 'it is better to let million guilty men free than to convict one innocent man'. unlike usa, have you read any regular stories in india of an innocent being sentenced to death? its weakness, is its piling cases and slow trial, which takes more than 20 years to deliver a judgment. even 2 decades after assassinating a P.M, the convicts are still alive. this is a real situation of our legal system. with a stoke of a button manmohan singh or any may not be able to change a system over night to work effectively and efficient by 900%. even if all judges work 24/7, it cannot be achieved.

Our legal system is perfect. So let all those convicts in the death rows of the prisons be allowed to live there and die a natural death. For the same reason any one who reasonably expects that a corruption case should be tried and judgment given in a period of one year is asking for the moon. So he is an infantile.QED.

in a country where even the eminent scientist APJ Kalam found it difficult to grasp it, how can all these points enter the head of a 70+ year old, 7th std pass army-truck driver who got inducted in to army despite not meeting the physical requirements?

What a way to look at people and the corruption issue in hand!!

with his long experience as an truck-driver, may be he should try his anti-corruption movement by gathering all cabbies in delhi, making them vouch not to give bribe, and fight against those corrupt traffic cops & RTO's. let every trucks carry annas picture, to scare the cops. here I agree, he is indeed an expert in that subject !

If a truck driver can talk only about the corruption indulged in by an auto or truck driver we will have to resurrect the ex-prime ministers of India from their graves to talk about the corruption of living prime ministers. Some logic this.

you need two to tennis! and applies to corruption also!

if 45% of indians are bribe givers, max 3-4% only would be bribe takers, taking in to count, all of those who are in power and position. squarely, the blame goes to the bribe givers.

look at the top corruption:-

1) what a.raja would have done, if no indian citizen was ready to bribe him? nothing.

2) do you think s.kalmadi would have stopped common wealth games, just because no indians were ready to bribe him?

3) who keeps all the poker face to influence the traffic cop with a 500 Rs note, to get away with the drunken driving court summon?

4) oh! train tickets full ! dady, dont get tensed up, i'm an expert in bribing the tte.

all but, aam admi !

here, our man's draft bill doesn't pay much attention to the bribe takers

I fully support Anna Hazare.

Compared to the laws which politicans have broken, a few so-called 'laws' which anna hazare has broken is nothing.

Happy Hindu,

It's just what I wanted to say.

The problem with Indians is that they want to put everyone into the guilty chair and then look and decide if they want to accept his idea or not. Yes he has been convicted for corruption, however the point is he was open to say that if the corruption charges are proved then arrest me and put me through the punishment. Which the goverment did not do.

This was the one and only time when there was any doubt cast over Anna Hazare. For some who are calling him 7th standerd pass and a truck driver. please go through his Wikipedia page and then comment.

Anna Hazare - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please go through the his works first and then comment.

I dont get the point, as I said earlier in some other forum. If someone is trying to do something why are we trying to show him down.

Why doesnt the goverment want his version of the Lokpal bill to be forwarded to parliament? Why does the goverment want its version of Lokpal to be passed.

dear raju,

i do call those bunch of erudite's who were tailing behind anna as 'infantiles, kneejerk thinkers' because, they fail to understand that they are not the representatives of the indian citizens. how can you expect kiran bedi (cop) or hegde (judge) to know the pulse of the aam admi, though they excelled in their profession?

had anna gathered all the opposition M.P's or atlest advani along with him, then i would agree? this is not the way laws could be enacted in a democratic set up. relying on the the ideas of elite/learned/bureaucrats/clergy to frame a bill, without involving peoples representatives is nothing but the presidential autocratic governance, similar to Zia-Ul-Huq, saddam hussai or mubarak. this is not an acceptable norm in democracy.

now, again, both bribe givers and takers should be equally punished, and the law is already in place. oneu cannot justify giving bribe, because some one is under duress. if this is acceptable in our system, this will lead to the following.

1) i was hungry, so i murdered him, stole his gold ring to buy a break fast.
2) i dont know how i molested, cos i was intoxicated.
3) i was duress by the boss pressure, so i shot him.

regarding bribe under duress, i already said, if no one was ready to bribe suresh kalmadi, do you think he would have stopped the common wealth games?

i will continue to call him Anna a truck driver (indeed he was), because he neither represents people nor has any idea about our legal/democratic set up and practicality in implementing things in India, which is very much evident if any one got to read his first draft bill.

btw, i'll tell you what, after passing the bill, if courts acquit any of the bribe accused, anna & co would gang up again to scream 'lets kill all the lawyers" :)
