When a person's time is not favorable, he would be accused of actions which he had never performed.This is the story of how Krishnan was branded as a thief by his own loyal people.

sathrajith was a devote of Lord Sun. The Sun God was very pleased with him and presented him the syamanthaka mani- a gem as brilliant as the Sum himself.

The gem would ward off all evil powers, famine, ill health accidents etc.Krishnan wanted it to be presented to the king ugrasEnan, but sathrajit refused to do so!.

Later his brother prasEnan wore the gem round his neck and went for hunting. A lion killed him and took away the gem. Jambavan killed the lion and gave the gem to his son to play with.

Everybody thought that krishnan was the gem-thief. He set out to look for the gem and clear His name.He followed the tracks of the lion and the bear and went into the cave where JAmbavAn lived. The fought for 28 days.

Finally JAmbavAn realized that Krishnan was none other than RAmA. He presented the gem as well his daughter JAmbavathy to KrishnA.

Krishnan's name was finally cleared.[/FONT]

# 19. DIFFER AND SUFFER.


The five fingers in the same hand are different from one another. In the same way the members of the same family differ from one another in as many ways as possible. If all things look the same and if all people look alike, life will be very boring indeed! Variety adds to the spice of life, while familiarity breeds contempt.

At the same time, if a person differs from the others too much, he will rather be maltreated as a freak than be respected as a unique person! As a rule, humans can not tolerate any one who thinks or behaves differently. The person who differs usually suffers. It can be rightly said, "The more he differs from the others, the more he suffers at the hands of the others".

He will be branded, called pet names /nick names, ridiculed and humiliated. In the olden days they used to be stoned, lashed or poisoned. Thankfully such things do not happen in the modern times.

A new concept, theory or postulate put forward by person who thinks differently, is given an ice-cold-reception! People resists changes. They fight any new concept. They would not accept anything new - unless and until it is proved established beyond the slightest doubt!

All the famous thinkers and philosophers have suffered thus in the hands of the common men thus prior to the acceptance of their principles!

#121. பொறாமைத் தீ.


கச்யபரின் பல மனைவிகளில் இருவர்,
கத்ரு, வினதா என்னும் சகோதரிகள்.

கணவனின் அன்பைப் பெறவேண்டியே
கண நேரமும் வீணாக்காமல் முயலுவர்.

பலமுறை கத்ரு விரும்பி விழைந்தது,
பலமுள்ள புதல்வர்கள் ஓராயிரம் பேர்.

விரும்பியபடியே அவள் அடைந்தாள்,
வீரம், பலம் மிகுந்த ஆயிரம் நாகங்களை.

வினதா விரும்பியதோ இரு மகன்கள்;
வீரமும், வெற்றியும் கொண்டவர்கள்.

பிறந்தன அழகிய இரண்டு முட்டைகள்,
பிறகு மாறி விடும் இரண்டு மகன்களாக!

ஐநூறு ஆண்டுகள் தவம் கிடந்தாள், பல
ஐயங்களை மனதில் கொண்ட வினதா.

பொரியவில்லை அங்கே முட்டைகள்.
வெளியே வரவில்லை இரு மகன்களும் .

பொறுமை இழந்தவள், ஒரு முட்டையை
பொரியும் முன்பே உடைத்து விட்டாள்.

பாதி உடல் மட்டுமே உருவாகி இருந்த
பாலனைக் கண்டு, மனம் பதைத்தாள்.

ஆக்கப் பொறுத்தவள் ஆகிய அன்னை
ஆறப் பொறுக்கவில்லை, கொடுமையே!

பாதி உடலுடன் இருக்கும் அருணனை,
சாரதி ஆக்கிக் கொண்டான், சூரியன்.

அல்லும் பகலும் இரத்தில் ஏறிச்
செல்லுவதற்கு கால்கள் வேண்டாமே!

போயின மேலும் ஐநூறு ஆண்டுகள்;
தாயின் தவமும் பலித்தது அங்கே.

ஆயிரம் சூரியர்களின் ஒளியுடனே,
அருமை மகன் கருடன் தோன்றினான்.

சேய்கள் நாக, அருண, கருடர்கள்
தாய் வேறானாலும் சகோதரரே.

ஒரு தந்தை மகன்களான போதும்
ஒருவருக்கொருவர் ஜன்மப் பகை.

மகளிர் கொண்டது பொறாமைத் தீ;
மகன்கள் கொண்டதோ பகைமைத் தீ!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

Kadru and Vinatha were two sisters married to the same rushi. They were jealous of each other and were always trying to win their husband's love and affection.

Kadru wanted a thousand strong sons. So she got 1000 famous nAgAs as her sons.

Vinata wanted two very strong and distinguished sons. She gave birth to two eggs. Five hundred years had passed by but nothing emerged from the eggs.

Vinata lost her patience and broke open one of the eggs,. She was sorry to find the half formed body of her son. He had only the upper parts of his body developed!

He was named as Arunan. The sun God made Arunan his saarathi. Sun is always on the move and the saarathi never needed to get down from the chariot.

Another 500 years rolled by and Garudan emerged from the other egg. He was more brilliant than even the Sun God.

The mothers were two sisters and jealous of each other. Their sons were half brothers but became 'janma virOdhis'.

# 20. THE BODY AND THE MIND.



There lived a sanyasi in a small village. By the rarest coincidence a pretty young girl - who sold her virtue - lived in a house nearby. Men of all ages used to visit her day and night. The sanyasi was very unhappy with the girl's profession and would often think, "Having committed sins all her life, she will burn in the fires of the hell".

But the girl respected the sanyasi as if he were a living God. She was quite unhappy with her profession but had no other means of livelihood. She spent all her spare time in prayers and in shedding tears of remorse.

Now the sanyasi found a new occupation to keep himself busy! He would keep aside a small pebble for every man who visited the girl. Soon he had gathered quite an impressive heap of pebbles.

Both of them died on the same night - again by another rare coincidence! The Atman of the girl flew up to the heaven while the Atman of the sanyasi was dragged to the hell.

The Atman of the sanyasi was seething with anger and demanded an answer for his question. "Why the Atman of the girl who sold her body was taken to the Heaven while his Atman was dragged to the hell despite he fact that, he had led a pure life of an ascetic? Was there no justice in the after-life?"

He was given the best possible answer which blasted his ego and anger into nothingness.

"She was a fallen woman no doubt! She committed sin through her body but her mind was always set on God and she had washed off all her sins through her sincere tears.

You had renounced the world. Yet you spent all your time in watching the men who visited her house. Your mind had given up prayers and penance and was occupied entirely in storing pebbles.

The mortal remains of the girl who sinned through her body is being devoured by dogs and jackals. But your mortal remains are being garlanded and given honorable last rites.

The one who is pure in heart goes to the heaven and the one with a corrupted heart must go to the hell. This is God's justice and this is His judgment, which we carry out here!"

#122. அமரத்துவம்.


நாகங்களும், வீரன் கருடனும்
ஜனித்தது ஒரு முனிவருக்கே!
நண்பர்கள் அல்லவே அவர்கள்;
ஜன்மப் பகைவர்கள் ஆவார்கள்.

அந்நியத் தாயிடம் அடிமையாகத்
தன் தாய் இருப்பதைக் கண்ட கருடன்,
விடுதலை பெறும் வழிமுறைகளைக்
கொடுக்குமாறு வேண்டிக் கொண்டான்.

“அமரத்துவம் வேண்டும் எங்களுக்கு!
அமிர்தம் தர வேண்டும் அதற்காக!
அமிர்தம் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்தால்,
அன்னையின் அடிமைத்தனம் போகும்”.

நாகங்களின் கோரிக்கைக் கேட்டு,
வேகமாகக் கிளம்பினான் கருடன்;
வானவர் நாட்டினை அடைந்து,
வான் புகழ் அமுதம் கொண்டுவர.

எத்தனைக் கட்டுக் காவல்கள்?
எத்தனை பாதுகாப்பு அரண்கள்?
அத்தனையும் தாண்டி கருடன்,
அமிர்தத்தை அடைந்துவிட்டான்!

திரும்பும் வழியில் கண்டான், தான்
விரும்பும் விஷ்ணு மூர்த்தியை.
உடனே செய்து கொண்டனர் ஒரு
உடன் படிக்கை, அவ்விருவரும்.

அமிர்தம் அருந்தாமலேயே கருடன்
அமரன் ஆகலாம், இறை அருளால்;
இறைவனின் இனிய வாகனமாக
இருப்பான் கருடன் இனிமேலே.

தொடர்ந்து சென்ற கருடனைத்
தொடர்ந்தவன் அந்த தேவேந்திரன்,
“அமிர்தத்தை அளித்து நாகங்களை
அமரர்கள் ஆக்குவது மிகத் தவறு.

நாகங்கள் அருந்துமுன் அமிர்தத்தை,
நான் எடுத்துச் சென்றுவிடவேண்டும்!
உதவி புரிந்தால், உனக்கு உகந்த
உணவாக நாகங்களை ஆக்குவேன்!”

அமுதத்தை பெறுவதற்கு நாகங்கள்
ஆவலாய்க் காத்து நின்று இருந்தன.
“உண்ணும் முன் நீங்கள் அனைவரும்
திண்ணமாக நீராடி வர வேண்டும்!”

நீராடச் சென்று விட்டன நாகங்கள்;
நிமிட நேரத்தில் வந்த இந்திரன்
அமிர்த கலசத்தை மீட்டுகொண்டு,
அமரர் உலகம் விரைந்து சென்றான்.

தாயின் அடிமைத்தளை போயிற்று,
தானும் அமரத்துவம் பெற்றான் கருடன்.
விஷ்ணுவின் இனிய வாகனம் ஆனான்;
விரும்பி உண்ணும் உணவு நாகங்களே!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

NAgAs and Garudan were born to the same Rishi but they became sworn enemies.

Garudan's mother Vinata was the slave of Kadru-her sister and the mother of nAgAs.,,

Garudan wanted to know the conditions for the liberation of his mother from slavery.

The NAgAs wanted the Amrutham from Swargam as they wanted to become immortal.
Garuda flew to the Swargam, overcame all the difficulties, got through all the protective arrangements and obtained the Amrutham.

While he was returning he met Lord VishnU on the way and these two made a mutually beneficial pact.

GarudA would become immortal even without drinking the Amrutham. In turn he would become the holy vAhanam of Lord VishnU.

He proceeded further and found Indran following him. Indran said that the Amrutham should not be given to the nAgAs as it would make them immortal and invincible.

Indran asked Garudan to help him take away the amrutham before the nAgAs could taste it. In return Indran promised that he would make the snakes the favorite food of Garudan.

Garudan brought the amrutham to the nAgAs who were waiting very eagerly.

He commanded them to take a bath and become pure before tasting the amrutham. As soon as the NAgAs went to bathe, Indran swooped in and took away amrutham to swargam.

Garuda became immortal and the vAhanam of Lord vishnU and his favorite food consists of snakes.

# 21. THE SPECTRUM OF COLORS.



A rainbow decorates the sky and makes it look beautiful. In the same way a spectrum of colors add beauty and attractiveness to our daily life.

A person with a pure heart is said to have a heart as-white-as a swan. Evil persons like the Kamsan of MahAbAratA and MandarA of RAmAyanA are said to have hearts as-black-as the pitch darkness.

Blue sky and blue sea bring peace of mind to the beholder and makes him calm and composed. But a blue film is said to destroy the mental peace of a person and disturb him very badly.

Yellow is the color of auspiciousness. A face washed with the yellow turmeric powder glows like gold. Wedding invitations used to be printed in yellow papers.
So too the declaration of bankruptcy of a person.

Green color has a cooling effect. Growing plants and new born babies can give a person the same amount of joy - since they grow everyday and excite our minds.
We avoid persons who give a green-signal for vulgar and lewd talk without any inhibitions.

Redness of the face and reddened eyes denote the terrible anger in a person. But the reddened hand denoted the hard work done by the person and his liberality in donating to the others.

Red ocher is the color of clay. It is the color worn by sanyAsis - who have conquered their minds and renounced the world. It is the color of ThyAgam and vairAgyam. The temple walls painted with red ocher and white colors have an unparalleled beauty.

Colors play an important part in our everyday life and in our moods. Color can display a mood and it can also create a mood. Any interior decorator will lend authenticity to this statement!

Let us use colors wisely and make the most of their beneficial effects.

#123. நாரத கானம்.


நாரத கானம் மூன்று உலகங்களிலும்,
மாறாப் புகழ் பெற்றது என அறிவோம்.

நாரதரும் தோல்வியினைத் தழுவி,
நாணமடைந்ததையும் அறிவோமா?

பால அனுமனுக்குப் பல வரங்கள்
பல தேவர்கள் உவந்து அளித்தனர்.

அனைத்து வேத வேதாந்தங்களிலும்,
அனைத்து வித சாஸ்திரங்களிலும்,

அனைத்து வகைக் கலைகளிலும்,
அளவிட முடியாத நிபுணத்துவம்!

நாரதருக்கும் உண்டு குறும்பு!
பிரம்மச்சாரி அல்லவா அவர்?

பெருமைகளை உணராமல், அனுமனை
வெறும் ஒரு குரங்காகவே எண்ணினார்.

ஆசிகள் வேண்டி அனுமன் பணிந்திட,
கீதங்கள் பாடுமாறு அவனைப் பணித்தார்.

அனுமனின் கானத்தில் மயங்கியவர்,
ஆனந்தத்தில் கண்களை மூடி அமரவே,

கல்லும் கனிந்து உருகிவிட்டதால்,
கல்லே பெரும் வெள்ளாமாகி விட்டது.

உருகிய கல்லில் நாரதர் வீணையும்,
அருகினிலே அங்கே மிதக்கலானது.

“போதும் போதும்” என்றார் நாரதர்,
கீதத்தை நிறுத்தினான் அனுமன்.

உருகிய கல் மீண்டும் உறைந்துபோய்,
அரிய வீணையைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டது.

“எடுத்தால் வரவில்லையே வீணை!
அடுத்தது நான் என்ன செய்யட்டும்?”

மீண்டும் பாடும்படி அனுமனை
வேண்டிக் கேட்டார் நாரத முனிவர்.

தேனினும் இனிய கானத்தினால்
தேன்போல் இளகியது கற்பாறை.

விரைந்து வீணையை மீட்ட நாரதர்,
மறைந்தே போனார் ஒருநொடியில்!

பெருமைகளை முழுவதும் அறியாமல்,
சிறுமைப் படுத்தலாகாது ஒருவரையும்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

NAradA was famous for his musical talents in all the three worlds. BAla HanumAn was blessed by the Gods with the knowledge of all the sAstrAs and Arts. NAradA still considered HanumAn as nothing more than a mere monkey!

One day NAradA wanted to listen to HanumAn's music. As HanumAn sang NAradA sat with his eyes closed and was listening with rapt attention.

HanumAn's music was so great and enthralling that the stones melted like water and NAradA's veena started floating it the molten rocks.

When NAradA bade HanumAn to stop singing he promptly stopped. The molten rocks froze again and the veena got stuck in the rock.

NAradA tried to retrieve it but without any success. He requested HanumAn to sing one more time. When the stones started melting, he promptly retrieved his Veena and speedily disappeared!

We should never belittle anybody without knowing their true greatness.

# 22. SUPPORT OR SUPPRESS!



People meet with two different kinds of treatments. Some are offered unconditional support while the others are suppressed or offered speed breakers in their paths.

Some people are like the plants that grow well with fertilizers.They grow well with the support of the family members. A few others are like the plants who show rapid and impressive growth when pruned regularly.

The person who is not self sufficient needs the support of the others around him. The water coming out of a pinched hose reaches farther with greater speed. In the same way some people reach greater heights when offered resistance.

There is a proverb:"Different strokes for different folks!"

If the person needs support we must not deny him support. If he grows well despite our support let him do so!

Both the methods are good, since our aim is increased growth ratio in either case.

#124. “சர்ப்ப! சர்ப்ப !”


பிரம்மஹத்தி பீடித்ததால் இந்திரன்,
பிரமை பிடித்தவன் போல ஆனான்!
ஒளி இழந்து, அவமானம் அடைந்து,
ஒளிந்து கொண்டான் வெட்கத்தினால்.

எங்கு சென்றான் என்றே யாராலும்
எண்ணிப் பார்க்கவே முடியவில்லை.
அரசன் இல்லாமல் ராஜ்ஜியம் ஏது? புது
அரசனைத் தேடிக் கண்டு பிடித்தார்கள்!

வீரனும்; நல்ல சீலமும், புகழும் பெற்ற
சூரனும்; ஆகிய நஹுஷனே அவன்.
“மண்ணுலகின் சிறந்த அரசனையே,
விண்ணுலகின் அரசன் ஆக்குவோம்!”

புதிய பதவியை ஏற்க பயந்தவனுக்கு,
போதிய தைரியம் கூறினர், மேலும்
தத்தம் தவப் பயன்களை எல்லாம்
தத்தம் செய்து விட்டனர் விண்ணோர்.

“கண்ணில் படும் அந்நியர்களுடைய
மன்னிய தேஜசும், பிற சிறப்புக்களும்
வந்து அடையும் புதிய இந்திரனையே!”
வரமும் அளித்துவிட்டனர் அவர்கள்.

புண்ணியம் தீரும்வரை புனிதனாகவும்
புண்ணியம் தீர்ந்தபின் மனிதனாகவும்
மாறினான் மன்னன் நஹுஷ இந்திரன்!
கோரினான் சசியைத் தன் மனைவியாக!

பாவியின் விருப்பத்தைக் கேட்டவுடன்,
பதறிப் போனாள் அந்தப் பதிவிரதை.
குல குருவிடம் சரணம் அடைந்தாள்,
“குலப் பெண்ணைக் காப்பாற்றும்” என.

“கால விசேஷத்தால் தோன்றும் துன்பம்
கால விளம்பத்தால் நீங்கி விடும்” என
தைரியம் கூறிய குலகுரு, “சசிதேவியின்
வைரி அழியும் நேரமும் வந்தது” என்றார்.

மானஸரோவரில் தாமரைத் தண்டில்,
மறைந்து தவம் செய்திருந்த இந்திரன்,
“மறை முனிகள் சுமக்கும் பல்லக்கில் ஏறி
மாண்புடன் வந்தால் உன்னை மணப்பேன்”

என்று நஹுஷனிடம் நாடகமாடும்படித்
தன் மனைவி சசிதேவியைப் பணித்தான்.
பாவம் பழுத்து விட்டது நஹுஷனுக்கு;
சாபம் கிடைக்கும் நேரம் வந்து விட்டது!

சப்த ரிஷிகள் சுமக்கும் பல்லக்கில் ஏறி,
சசி தேவியைக் காணும் ஆவல் உந்த,
சல்லாபிக்க வந்தவன், ஆத்திரத்தில்
“சர்ப்ப! சர்ப்ப!” என்று அதட்டியபடியே,

அகத்தியரை காலால் உதைத்தபோது,
அவன் பாவமூட்டை நிறைந்து விடவே,
‘சர்ப்ப!’ என விரையச் சொன்னவனை,
சர்ப்பமாகும்படி அகத்தியர் சபித்தார்.

மலைப் பாம்பாக மாறியவன், கீழே
தலைக் குப்புற விழுந்தான் மண்ணில்.
நிலை மாறி பழைய வடிவம் பெறவே
பல நூறாண்டுகள் காத்தும் கிடந்தான்.

“நிலை உயரும் போதும் மனிதன் தன்
நிலைமை மாறலாகாது” என்றறிவோம்,
“பதவியைத் தந்தவர்களாலேயே அதே
பதவி பறிக்கப்படும்” என்றுணர்வோம்.

Indra accumulated Brahmahathi dOsham, lost his glory and fame and went into hiding.No one knew where he was hiding.

The swargam had no king and the DEvAs decided to find a new King. They approached Nahushan who had earned a good reputation as a lawful and reputable king on earth.

Nahushan was scared to assume the new role as Indran. The devAs gave him courage and many blessings besides. They blessed that he would absorb the tejas, glory and greatness of the persons, whom he comes across.

He was a good king till all his good karmAs got finally exhausted.Then he turned out to be a perfect villain. When he set his eyes on IndrAni, he demanded that she should come and live with him, as he was the new Indran.

IndrAni fluttered like an injured bird to hear such scary demands and sought asylum in Guru Bruhaspati.He advised her to demand for some more time to make up her mind.

She did as she was advised.She went in search of Indran- who was hiding inside lotus stem in the lake MAnasarOvar and had assumed the size of an atom!

He advised her to pretend as if she would agree to Nahushan's demands on one condition- that Nahushan must arrive to her palace in a palanquin carried by the Sapta Rishis.

Nahushan was overwhelmed that he would get a ride which no one has ever thought about till then! He set out on the palanquin.His desire to meet Indrani was so great that he kicked Agasthya Maharishi and commanded,"Sarpa! sarpa!" bidding him to hurry up.

His stock of sins became Poornam and AgasthyA cursed him to fall down to earth as a sarpa! He fell headlong as a giant python and had to wait for a very long period for S'Apa vimOchanam.

When we reach greater heights we must continue to remain humble and simple. The power and position invested on one person by another is likely to be withdrawn at any time - without any warning.

# 23. IN CONTINUATION...



I have observed a strange trait among men and women. Sons and daughters seem to
hesitate to spend money for their parents while they never hesitate to fulfill the whims and fancies of their own children!

Why do they appear to care for their children more than their parents - to whom they are children?

One fine day this riddle which was bothering me was solved in a flash and the answer dawned on me!

The generations must continue and flow on freely like a river. God has given this strange mentality to us just to ensure such a free flow.

If we return the favors we had received to the person who gave them to us, our account will be settled once for all and it will get canceled.

So if the account should continue we must NOT return the favors to the givers but pass them on to the next generation. Whatever kindness, support, gifts and blessings we had received from our parents we must pass on to our children.

They must likewise pass on to the their children and so on and so forth. When this process continues, we get the lovely chain where each generation form a link.

God knows better than any of us how to keep things moving perpetually. So He has set the minds of the humans accordingly and made sure that the gift of love continues from generation to generation.

#125. பண்டமாற்று.



ஒரே கண்ணன் வேறு வேறான
இரு வடிவங்களையும் எடுப்பான்.
பகைவர்களுக்குச் சுடும் சூரியன்;
பாசமுள்ளவர்களுக்குச் சந்திரன்.

பங்கிடாமல் உண்பது என்னும்
பழக்கமே இல்லையே அவனுக்கு!
வெண்ணை, பால், தயிர், பழங்கள்
கண்ணனுக்கு எல்லாம் ஒன்றே.

பழக்காரி ஒருத்தி வந்தது கண்டு,
குழந்தைக் கை நிறைய தானியம்
அன்புடன் தந்த பின் பழம் கேட்டான்.
தன்னுடைய நல்ல நண்பர்களுக்கு!

தாமரைக் கண்ணனைக் கண்டதும்
தாய் போன்ற பழக்காரி, தன்னுடைய
கூடைப் பழங்களை எல்லாம் மழலைக்

தானியம் இட்ட அவள் கூடையில்
தானியம் காணப் படவே இல்லை!
மாயாஜாலம் போலக் கூடை நிறைய
முத்து, ரத்தினங்களையே கண்டாள்!

“மனம் போல வாழ்வு” என்பார் சிலர்,
“மனம் போல மாங்கல்யம்” என்பார் பலர்,
“மனம் போல ஏற்றம்” என்பதையும் கூட
மாயவனே அன்று நிலை நாட்டி விட்டான்.

Krishna plays two extremely different roles. He scorches His enemies like the hot Sun. He blesses His devotees like the cool Moon.

He never eats anything by himself. He must share everything with his good friends - be it milk or butter or fruits!

One day KrishnA saw a fruit vendor. He gave her a handful of grains and asked for fruits for His group of friends. The woman was so happy to get a glimpse of the lovely lotus-eyed krishnA, that she gave away the entire basketful of fruits to his young friends.

When she looked into her basket she was wonder struck! The handful of grains were gone but the basket was filled with precious gems and pearls - as if by a mAyA jAlam!

There are two wise sayings:
"The blessings a person receives depends on the purity of his mind".
"The marital happiness in a person depends of the mental purity of that person".

Krishna had proved that,
"The greatness of a person is also due to the mental purity of that person".
What a wonderful barter of precious gems for a few fruits given with love![/FONT]

# 24. THE LIGHT AND THE DARKNESS.



It is one of Nature's puzzles that light and darkness always coexist! It is a very common phenomenon we watch everyday.

A lit lamp gives out bright light to the world, but the area under the lamp never gets the light. It is always in darkness.

It is the same when a person reaches a great height by his constant efforts. The whole world will see him and appreciate him but not those who live nearby. Familiarity breeds contempt.

A person develops hatred towards the one who serves him most - while remaining quietly in the background. A strange concept prevails - that any known person can not be really great!

Parents cherish their children who live far way and visit them occasionally more than those who are with them, taking good care of them. We all know the story of the prodigal son.

We must not belittle persons just because they happen to live near to us. We must learn to see the things and persons in their true greatness and appreciate them.

#126. தீப் பார்வை.





தானே கொல்ல விரும்பாவிடில், கண்ணன்
தன் பக்தர்கள் மூலம் கொல்வான், தீயோரை!

தீப் பார்வையால் யவனன் எனும் தீயோனைத்
தீர்த்துக் கட்டிய முசுகுந்தனின் கதை இது.

துவாரகையை நிர்மாணித்த கண்ணன்,
யாவருமே கண்டு அதிசயிக்கும்படியாக,

தன் யோக வலிமையால் குடியேற்றினான்
தன் குடிமக்களை, அந்தப் புதிய நகரத்தில்.

பின்னர் நிராயுத பாணியாகவே நடந்தான்,
அண்ணன் பலராமனுடன், மதுராவிலிருந்து.

யவனன் என்னும் கண்ணனின் வைரியும்,
தனியன் ஆகவே அவனைத் தொடர்ந்தான்.

வேகம் அதிகரித்துக் கண்ணன் விரைந்தால்,
வேகமாகவே யவனனும் பின் தொடர்ந்தான்.

ஒரு குகையில் நுழைந்து விட்டான் கண்ணன்;
இருள் குகையில் யவனனும் பின் நுழைந்தான்.

உறங்கும் ஒரு மனிதனிக் கண்டு, அவன்
உறக்கம் கெடுமாறு அவனை எழுப்பினான்.

எழுந்தவன் விழித்த தீப் பார்வை பட்டு,
எரிந்து சாம்பல் ஆகிவிட்டான் யவனன்.

உறங்கியவனே மன்னன் முசுகுந்தன்.
உலகம் அறியும் மாந்தாதாவின் மகன்.

தேவர்களின் சேனைக்கு அதிபதியாகத்
தேவர்களுக்காகப் போர் செய்து ஓய்ந்தவன்.

வேண்டி அவன் பெற்ற வரம் இது ஒன்றே.
வேண்டும் வரையில் உறங்கவேண்டும்.

உறங்குபவனை எழுப்பி எவரேனும்
உபத்திரவித்தால், சாம்பலாகிவிடுவர்.

உறக்கம் கெட்டுத் தனக்கு உதவிய அந்த
உத்தமனுக்கு வரம் அளித்தார் கண்ணனும்.

மறு பிறவியில் அந்தணத் தவசீலனாகி,
மாறா வைகுண்டப் பதவி அடையுமாறு!

Whenever krishnA did not want to kill a person by himself, He would get him killed by some one else.KrishnA got DwArakA constructed and transported all his people into the unapproachable city by his Yoga shakthi. He then left MathurA along with BalrAm.

His enemy Yavana saw that krishnA was unarmed and followed Him closely. KrishnA increased his speed and the Yavana did like wise. Finally KrishnA entered a cave and hid Himself. The Yavana also entered the cave and saw a man fast asleep.

He thought that krishnA was pretending to be fast sleep and woke the man up. The moment the man opened his eyes, the Yavana was reduced to ashes.The man who was asleep was Muchukunthan the son of MAndhAthA.

He had led the army of DevAs against the army of AsurAs. On their victory DevAs wanted to confer on him a boon. He said that he was very tired and wanted to sleep to his heart's delight. The boon was granted that any one who disturbs his sleep will be burned to ashes.'

krishnA blessed Muchukunthaa that he would be born as a holy and austere brahmin in his janmA and attain Moksha.

# 25. A REVENGE?



I have always felt surprised and hurt when I see the aged parents forsaken by their children. How on earth can they be so cruel?

Was this a kind of revenge by the children on their parents - who had left them in the day care, in order to work and earn more money?

The same reason is valid now too. Both the spouses have to go out to earn money and the aged parents are unnecessary responsibilities!

The worst punishments in the word are poverty in one's youth and loneliness in one's old age.

To live a decent life man needs money. But without a trace of humanity in him, a man is no more a human! We need the money and the family i.e the man-power.

So if we work out a successful formula and devote time both for the family and for the career, neither of them will suffer nor feel neglected.

When neither of these are neglected, we will never lack money in our youth nor man-power in old age!

# 127. வரப் பரீட்சை.





செல்வத்தைப் பெற வேண்டிப் பலர்
தெய்வங்களை ஆராதிக்கின்றனர்.
செல்வம் பெற்ற அவர்களே பிறகு
தெய்வங்களை மறந்துவிடுகின்றனர்.

விருகன் என்னும் அசுரன் மிகவும்
விரும்பி விழைந்ததோர் அற்புதசக்தி.
எவர் தலை மீது கையைக் காட்டினாலும்,
அவர் வெந்து சாம்பலாகிவிட வேண்டும்!

“யாரை நான் உபாசனை செய்வது?”
நாரதரை அணுகியவன் கேட்டான்.
“விரைவில் மன மகிழ்ந்து, வேண்டும்
வரம் தருபவர், பாரில் பரமசிவனே”.

கேதார க்ஷேத்திரத்துக்கு விரைந்து
போனான் விருகாசுரன், அன்றைக்கே!
தன் தசைகளை வெட்டி இட்டு, ஒரு
தன்னிகரில்லா ஹோமம் செய்தான்.

ஆறு நாட்கள் கழிந்த பின்னரும்,
ஆண்டவன் அவனுக்கு இரங்கி
வரவோ, அன்றி அவன் கேட்ட வரம்
தரவோ இல்லை! நொந்து போனான்.

ஏழாம் நாள் தன் தலையையே வெட்ட
எத்தனிகையில் தோன்றினார் ஈசன்.
“வினோதமான வரமே இது, எனினும்
விரும்பும் வரம் தந்தோம்” என்றார்.

‘இருக்க இடம் கொடுத்தவரிடம்
படுக்கப் பாய் கேட்பது’ போலவே
வரத்தை சோதிக்க விரும்பியவன்
வரம் தந்த ஈசனையே நாடினான்.

‘அனர்த்தம் விளையுமே’ என்று
அஞ்சியே சிவன் ஓடத் தொடங்க,
‘விட்டேனா பார்’ என்றே கருவிய
விருகனும் பின் தொடர்ந்தான்.

ரட்சிக்கும் கடவுளையே யாரால்
ரட்சிக்க முடியும்? நாம் அறியோம்!
ஓட்டப் பந்தயத்தைப் பார்த்து விட்ட
ஓங்கி வளர்ந்த வாமன ரூபனும்

அழகிய பிரம்மச்சாரியாக அங்கே
அவர்கள் முன்னே தோன்றினான்.
“இவன் சொல்வதையா நம்புகின்றாய்?
இவன் பிசாசுக் கூட்டத்தின் தலைவன்!

சோதித்துப் பார்போம் நாம் இப்போதே!
சொல்வது பொய்யாகிவிட்டால், நாமே
இவனைக் கொன்று விடுவோம். நீயும்
இப்போதுன் தலைமேல் கையை வை.”

இந்த வார்த்தை ஜாலத்தில் மயங்கி,
அந்தக் கணமே தன் தலை மீது தானே
கையை வைத்ததுதான் தாமதம்!
மெய்யாகவே எரிந்து போய்விட்டான்.

தவம் செய்வார்கள் வரங்கள் பெற;
வரங்கள் பெறுவது வாழ்விப்பதற்கா?
தானும் கெட்டு, அடுத்தவனையும்
தான் துன்புறுத்துவதற்காகவா ?

# 127. A STRANGE BOON.

People do Tapas seeking various riches and powers.[/FONT]But after receiving those, they forget the God who had bestowed those things on them or they slight Him!

Asuran Vrugan wanted an unique power. If he showed his hand over the head of anybody, that person must be reduced to mere ashes!

He sought the advice of nAradA as to which of the Gods was easy to please and would readily give boons. NAradA said that SivA was easy to please and quick in giving boons.

VrugAsuran went to KEdAra kshetram and started s severe penance. He offered the flesh cut off from his body and performed Homam for six days. SivA did not appear!

On the seventh day he wanted to offer his head in the Homam. When he was about to cut off his head, SivA appeared .Though the boon was strange, SivA blessed him with that strange power.

There is a saying in Tamil" The person allowed to rest on the veranda will demand a mat and a pillow". Vrugan wanted to test the power of the boon on SivA Himself.

SivA wanted to avoid the unpleasant consequences and started running away. Vrugan followed him with his hand outstretched. They ran through all the worlds.Vishnu watched this running race and appeared tin front of them as a young brahmachari.

He told Vrugan,"Don't believe the words of SivA. He is the God of spirits and ghosts. We will test His boon. If it does not work, we will kill him! Now put your hand over your head".

Vrugan was so overwhelmed at the prospect of killing SivA that he put his hand over his head to test the boon. He was reduced to ash in no time.

Why do people perform Tapas and get rare powers-
Is it to help others or to destroy them?

# 26. THE REAL AND THE FEIGNED.



There are two kind of sleep - the real and the feigned. They appear to be the same but they definitely are not the same.

The feigned sleep of Lord Vishnu is world famous. Many men can challenge Lord Vishnu with respect to their feigned sleep.

Some people sleep with their eyes wide open. Some others sleep with their mouths wide open. A few others roar like caged lions in their sleep. But none of these is feigned sleep.

Feigned sleep is one in which the person appears to be asleep while he is fully aware of everything happening around him. It is difficult to wake up such a person, since he is not really asleep in the first place.

We can wake up a person who is really asleep but not the one who feigns sleep, in order to avoid unwanted interactions.

Waking up such a person will have the same consequences as stumbling on a sleeping lion or pulling the tail of tiger.

#128. ஜடபரதன்.





பரதன் என்ற பெயர் படைத்த
அரசன், மகான் ரிஷபரின் மகன்.
பாரத வர்ஷம் என்னும் அழகிய
காரணப் பெயர், இவராலேயே!

மனைவி, மக்கள் மோட்சத் தடை
எனவே நினைத்து, அவரை விடுத்து,
அனைத்தையும் துறந்து வாழ்ந்தார்,
அழகிய சக்ர நதியின் கரையினிலே.

ஒரு நாள் கண்டார், ஒரு பெண் மான்
அருகினில் ஆற்று நீர் பருகுவதை.
பூரண கர்ப்பிணியான அம் மானும்
நீர் வேட்கையைத் தீர்க்கும்போதே,

விழுந்தது செவிகளில், சிம்ம கர்ஜனை!
விழுந்தது நழுவி நீரில், அதன் கர்ப்பம்!
தாவிய பெண்மான் கரையிலேயே விழ,
ஆவி பிரிந்தது அவ்வழகிய மானின்.

நீரில் அடித்துச் செல்லப்படுகின்ற,
சீரிய கர்ப்பத்தைத் துரத்திச் சென்று,
வீரியத்துடன் மீட்ட பரதன், அதன்
காரியங்கள் அனைத்தையும் செய்ய,

தாயும் ஆகித் தந்தையுமாகிப் பேணி
தவ நியமங்களைத் துறந்துவிட்டான்.
மனம் முழுவதும் மான்குட்டி மீதே!
தினமும் விரும்பிய முக்தி மீதல்ல.

இறுதி நினைவுகள் மான் மீதே இருக்க,
பிறவி எடுத்தார், ஒரு மானாகவே!
பக்தியும், ஞானமும் மறையவில்லை,
முக்தியின் ஆசையும் குறையவில்லை.

தனியாகவே அம் மான் வாழ்ந்து வந்தது,
தவச் சீலரின் ஒருவர் ஆசிரமத்தருகே!
இலை, தழை, புல்லைத் தின்ற மான்
இயற்கை எய்தியது, நீர் நிலையிலேயே!

தவச் சீலரான அந்தணர் ஒருவருக்குத்
தவறாமல் சென்று பிறந்தான் பரதன்.
பாச வலைக்கு அஞ்சி வெருண்டதால்,
மோசம் போகாமல் காத்துக்கொண்டான்.

குருடன் போலவும், ஒரு பித்தனாகவும்,
செவிடன் போலவும், உன்மத்தனாகவும்,
கிடைத்ததை உண்டு, நிலத்தில் உறங்கி,
கிடைத்ததை அணிந்து, ஜடபரதன் ஆனான்.

இறுதி நினைவுகளே முடிவு செய்யும்,
மறுபிறவி நம்முடையது என்ன என்று!
இறை நினைவினில் திளைத்திருந்தால்,
இறையுடன் கலந்திடும் வாய்ப்பு உண்டு!

Bharathan, the son of King Rishaban, was a famous king of ancient India. India is named as Bharatha kandam in honor of this king.He wished to obtain Mokhsham. He thought that his love for the members of his family would disturb his spiritual saadhana. He left his palace and stared living hermit's life near the banks of river Chakra.

One day he watched a female deer drinking water in the river. It was bulging with its baby in the womb. Suddenly the roar of a lion was heard. The terrified deer jumped to the river bank but its fetus fell in the river and was being carried way by the stream. The female deer collapsed and died. Bharathan saved the little baby deer from the river and took care of it.

Slowly his mind and concentration were completely absorbed by the deer and his spiritual saadhanaas took a back seat.His mind was dwelling on the deer when he gave up his spirit and so he was reborn as a deer.

The deer remembered its bakthi and desire for mukthi.But it could not do any saadanaa as now it was merely a deer.

He lived by himself, eating dried leaves and grass, near the aashram of a rushi.

He died in the river and was reborn in the family of brahmins. He was afraid to move closely with anyone-fearing that he might get caught in the net of affection and waste one more janma.

He ate whatever he could get hold of and slept on the bare ground. He wore dirty clothes and behaved like a mentally challenged person and soon came to be called as Jada Bharathan.

The thoughts prevailing in one's mind when his spirit leaves his body determines his next birth. It will be a safe bet to keep one's mind always focused on God as this might give us a chance to merge with Him.[/FONT]
