Sthalam: Thiruvetkalam
Swami: Pasupatheswarar
Ambal: Nalla Nayagi (sathgunambigai)

Legend: It is said that Arjuna did penance here and shiva gave Pasupathstra to him in this place only.

Route: The temple is located in Annamalai nagar. It is good to take an auto. Everyone in the campus knows about this temple and is very big also. One has to enquire for music department and has to walk straight in the same road itself, which will take out of the university campus, but within annamalai nagar. Within 5 min walk from Music department, we can reach the temple.

Special Structures: There are lot of small and even minute sculptures in the temple. For example, even the dwarapalakas themselves are very small. A Rishabaruda sculpture with complete fine art within small stone is a treat to eyes. Similarly almost all the sculptures are small. One can circumbulate both swami and ambal individually and also by merging both shrines.

Within the reach is other two temples (within the same village- Sivapuri). Will discuss that next.

Sthalam: Keeranur
Swami: Sivaloganathar
Ambal: Ksheerambigai

Route: This small village is located in the main route of Mayiladuthurai--Thiruvarur. (near Peralam)

Legend: When a chola king travelled through this way, his horse has hitted the shivalingam and because of that blood oozed out from the lingam. Devi parvathi took the form of divine cow and then poured milk over the lingam and cured. Hence she is known as Ksheerambigai (Ksheeram- Milk).

Specialities: 1. This temple is famous for Lord Murugan. (Muthukumaraswamy). Like vaitheeswaran koil, even here also, murugan is famous than swami and ambal.

2. This is a very famous temple for getting child. Ambal is varaprasdini for this.

3. The temple owns a big pond in front of the temple.

In the whole trip I forget to share the superb two temples situated within the same village.

Sthalam: Sivapuri

Temple 1:
Temple Name: Thirukazhipalai
Swami: Palvanna nathar
Ambal: Vedhanayagi

This temple was originaly located 13 Kms southeast of Chidambaram on the north bank of river Kollidam. When the temple was destroyed by floods in the river Kollidam, the presiding deity Paalvanna Nathar was removed from there and kept in a new temple built at Sivapuri

Legend: Sage vashsita did penance here with milky shivalingam and kamadhenu has hitted the lingam unknowingly. Sage got much worried and tried to create other lingam. But swami and ambal gave him darshan and said that he will remained in the same lingam itself.

A huge sized nandhi welcomes us in the entrance of the temple, which has been submerged half into the sand. A sculpture of shiva and parvathi are also there in the Grabhagraha beside the lingam.

You can never see such a lingam. It will be in pure white colour with a hole inside. (They said that it will hold half a litre of milk inside). The swami is always bathed with pure cow milk.

Th other speciality is the bairavar. In this temple, a separate shrine for kala bairavar is there. So, local people knows this temple only as "Bhairavar temple". He is much powerful and many of the devotees came here just to visit him.

The shrine of ambal is there within the swami shrine and hence, w can circumbulate both . A small raised temple with short 5-10 steps to reach swami and ambal shrines increase the beauty of the temple.

ROUTE: The temple is located near Chidamabram Annamalai University. There are mini buses going to sivapuri from chidambaram bus stand itself. Might be 5-6 kms from university.

within the same vicinity the other temple, which is the actual temple of sivapuri is located. The temple is Thirunelvoyil.

Swami: Uchinatha eswarar
Ambal: Kanakambigai

Legend says that sage Kannva has did penance here and this is the place said to be his ashram was located. A very nice temple and ambal vigraham is very much beautiful. Though many sculptures are not seen around this temple, all the koshta devatha sculptures are simply superb.

The bus stop is located near to this temple only. From here one has to walk 2 streets to reach the other temple.

A very big pond infront of the temple keeps the atmosphere so cool even during the hot summer.
