Dear Krish ji,
We all know what a normal Rajini movie would be like. Don't think much about. Movies are simply there to make you enjoy for a couple of hours. Don't expect any class from it, of course if you get it that will be an additional bonus (like what you enjoy in Ray movies). In my opinion, going to a movie is neither a gain nor a loss, it is simply time pass!!

BTW I never watch award winning movies of the Sathyajit ray kind..too boring.

Movies should be Entertainment! Entertainment! Entertainment! with Happy Endings of a fairly tale kind.

No guy should be running around with a sickle or machete in hand.

Rajini's movie usually has no stupid Goonda in lungi..its always a gun yielding baddie..a high class baddie.

I hate to see hero die in movie..heroine can die..no big deal cos hero would get a replacement..but if hero dies..whole movie dies.

I am a Shakila fan!

BTW she is not a Malayali...She is from Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh chick ruled Kerala!LOL
Renukaji

From social sites I learn that she has been challenging established heroes like mohan lal and mammooty regarding pitting her films against theirs and taking away

their audience.

Lot of young and not so young starved people enjoy her movies.

I have seen movies of other stars like seema, jayabharathy, sheela of sixties in my younger bachelor days .

I liked chemmeen and see adoor gopalakrishnan films these days

[h=1]Rajinikanth’s Kabali creates a new concept in brand promotion[/h][h=2]Kabali brand promotion: The brand owners do leverage Rajinikanth's title 'superstar' in their commercials and also his movie image.[/h]

Rajinikanth starrer Kabali creates a new wave of branding.
Tamil movie super star Rajinikanth is not known to have endorsed any product or service but the frenzy of brands and corporates associating with the Tamil movie Kabali seems to throw up a new concept in brand promotion, said a brand consultant.
“It is a clever way of riding on the excitement of a big movie starring a very big hero who has not endorsed any product or service. But in the commercials of the brands associated with Kabali, there are a few scenes from the movie featuring only Rajinikanth and a voice-over about the product,” Ramanujam Sridhar, founder and Chief Executive Officer, Brand Comm, a brand consulting company, told IANS over phone from Bengaluru.
“Nowhere in the commercials of such brands, the hero was seen to endorse the product or talks about the product,” Sridhar added.
Normally an advertisement for a movie will feature the images of hero, heroine, villain and music director. If the product commercials are actually a promotion for the movie Kabali, the brand owners have leveraged only Rajinikanth’s image in the movie with some movie clippings.
However, the brand owners do leverage Rajinikanth’s title ‘superstar’ in their commercials and also his movie image. For instance, Cadbury Five Star Kabali commercial, though featuring the Ramesh-Suresh characters, has some scenes from the movie and ends with the tag line Superstar’s Five Star”.

AirAsia, the official airline partner for Kabali announced Fly like a Superstar promotion.
On the other hand, Kerala-based company Muthoot Fincorp partnered with movie to roll out exclusive silver coins with an embossed image of Rajinikanth as seen in the movie. Of all the brands that are associated with the movie Kabali, it is Emami’s Fair and Handsome brand for fairness cream that would make one’s eyebrows raise.

There have been songs and dialogues in Rajinikanth’s movies praising his dark skin. Here, a skin fairness cream gets associated with Rajinikanth’s movie and its commercial also features scenes from the Kabali movie. Sridhar says the movie seems to have started a new concept called “surrogate endorsement”.
“There have been commercials for brands with mimicking the voice of celebrities. It is not known whether any celebrity whose voice was mimicked had taken up the issue legally,” Sridhar said. “Similarly, the Kabali advertisements could be termed as akin to that but the celebrity’s image is replaced by the mimicked voice,” he added.
Brand owners associated with Kabali movie said that Rajinikanth is not endorsing their products or service.

Thanks to bay area cine industry friends, I got to watch a preview show of Kabali. I went in with no expectations and came out with mixed feelings. Kabali is paisa vasool for Rajinikanth fans while others can have equal fun mocking the aged superstar go through his paces.
The bar has been set high for Rajini, since he has already donated all his assets, built colleges, constructed dams, overthrew a Chief Minister and in general has given up his life for the masses. So, in this movie, the setting moves to Malaysia, where tamils are ill-treated and need a Messiah to save them. Enter the Superstar, who, like Nelson Mandela, spends several years in prison for his opposition to racism.
When he comes out, he settles down to a regular life (think Baasha’s auto driver), until circumstances force him to become a gangster and rescue his daughter from the enemies. And of course, he becomes the leader of Tamils/Dalits in Malaysia and improves their conditions tremendously.
For a Rajini fan, this will all give him/her goosebumps. Slow motion walks, stylish poses, crisp dialogues are all there, and theatres will explode with applause each time Rajini does his carefully choreographed routine.
There are flashback scenes where he looks “youth” that is sure to make his fans feel nostalgic. Director Ranjith has ensured that the larger than life image of Rajini has been preserved. In essence, it feels like a lifetime highlights of various Rajini movie scenes re-enacted.
For a casual cinema goer though, the whole shindig will feel thoroughly artificial and unbearable. The aged star with heavy makeup trying to act as a 30 year old is cringe-worthy.
For someone who in real life has shied away from any responsibility, has acted without any consistency in politics, a person who has never stood up to his beliefs (he appreciated Jayalalitha getting out of prison for the case that he railed against her in ’96!), Rajinikanth again doing the act of the mass leader and people’s savior is laughable.
The real life Rajini can do no right except to kindle talks about his entry into politics. But movie after movie, he does his act, and it is getting a bit long on the tooth.
Ranjith could have made a better film on the plight of the Malaysian tamils. May be that was his original plan. The movie though, ends up as yet another commercial vehicle for the Superstar. Ranjith’s Dalit politics take a backseat here. Radhika Apte is apt in her role as is Dhansika. Watch out for a surprise cameo from someone you wouldn’t expect in a Rajini film. Neruppudaa is a surprising ear worm from Santosh Narayanan.

[h=1]Kabali release: The lengths Rajinikanth fans go to[/h]

A fan with his body painted with an image of Rajinikanth outside a movie theatre showing Kabali in Bengaluru. (Reuters photo)NEW DELHI: Rajinikanth is back.

On Friday morning, the letters S-U-P-E-R-S-T-A-R - the title his adoring fans have given him - appeared in the iconic dotted, uppercase font on movie screens across India to the excitement of breathless fans.

S-U-P-E-R-S-T-A-R has introduced most of Rajini's iconic characters through his career. They include Padayappa, Shivaji, and Kochadaiyaan, and now, of course, Kabali.

Thalaivar - "chief" or "leader" in Tamil - has fans across the world. They and the film's commercial partners have gone to extraordinary lengths to get ready for the big release.
Take Rukendar from Chennai, for example.

His family has three generations of ardent Rajini fans, and his brother and uncle spent an entire week preparing for the July 22 release. In addition to making t-shirts and posters, the family has organized two release-date events: a temple yagna overnight and fireworks on the morning of the film's release.

Rukender also gave his car a complete makeover in honor of Rajini.

"The car was inspired by the AirAsia flight," he says. He's referring to the film's advertising partner, which plans to fly 165 fans to Chennai from Bengaluru in a plane painted with image of Rajini's character Kabali. Once the fans get to Chennai airport they will be ferried in coaches to one of Chennai's best-known movie theatres: Sathyam Cinemas.

These fans - who will be flown back on the same day - have shelled out Rs. 7,680 each for this experience. Tickets sold out in two hours, AirAsia said.

The fans will be treated to two special 'Kabali meals' on the flights. What's on the menu? "We haven't given that out yet. It's the only surprise left", the airline's spokesperson said.

While these Bengaluru fans paid in excess of Rs 7,000 to see the movie, other fans paid a similar amount for a 'Kabali poster makeover' so they could look like Rajini's character in the film. The p icture below? Take a closer look. It isn't Rajini.

Award-winning photographer Santosh Raj has been inundated with requests for such makeovers for the last three days.

On Sunday, Santhosh - owner of the Chennai-based studio FotoZone - posted photos on Facebook of his friend Srinivas as Kabali. Srinivas is president of the Krishnagiri district Rajini Fans' Association. Santosh wanted to show "the common man as the Superstar" and completely transformed his friend for the photo.

The images went viral. Despite being inundated with requests for similar makeovers, Santosh was only able to do a makeover on eight fans. "It takes four hours for us to go from make-up to post-production of the photo," he says.

Other fans use the occasion of a Rajini release to do social work and the same is true this time, too.

The fan group Rajini - Biggest Superstar of India (RBSI), for example, will distribute approximately 150 industrial helmets and welding glasses to workers who don't have such equipment, its spokesman told TOI. In addition, it will drive a group of orphans and old age home residents to a special screening of the movie.

The group organized a flash-mob at Jazz Cinemas, its theatre partner. It also teamed with a well-known dance-troupe Loyola Dream Team to raise awareness about piracy. That Rajini's fans started paying these tributes to him before a single review was published is a testament to the actor's hold on his fans' imaginations. His on-screen characters have inspired memorable sayings and jokes.

Ramesh Srivats, an entrepreneur who has become something of a social media celebrity, had a "Rajini joke" to share ahead of Kabali preview shows.

Kabali opening day box office collection: Rajinikanth's film beatsBaahubali's US premiere record; becomes biggest Indian opener

In its quest to shatter the records set by previous film, Rajinikanth-starrer has already scored a point. Kabali has become the Indian film to have registered the highest ever opening in the US, among those movies which have also had their premiere there.
The previous record was held by Baahubali, which had an opening collection of $1,382,076, followed by Sultan, which had earned $786,194.
Trade website Tamil Box Office tweeted that Kabali’s premiere gross amounted to $1.45 million. Kabali’s US distributors, Cine Galaxy, had previously confirmed the opening day collection at $1,317,288, and are yet to confirm the final figure.
International Business Times reported that Kabali’s US opening day collections had far exceeded Rajinikanth’s previous best of $404,566.
Kabali has been released in Tamil and Telugu in the US.

Tamil Nadu Vazhga!

No such thing that Malayalis are more cultured and educated than those in TN.

Its just a difference in taste of type of movies.

In TN people are crazy about Thalaiva and the Film Industry and in Kerala they are crazy about Shakila and the Porn Industry.

Just type in You Tube..Hot Mallu Aunty and you would come to Mallu sites with overweight totally out of shape buxom females with bulging abdomens in action!LOL

The movie has been released in Malaysia today itself as there is a Malay dubbd print of it too. I am curious to know how was the reception there.

Dear Renu,

You are very special in our dear forum since you are not blamed for 'derailing' this thread,

by discussing about glam ma'ams of movies, with some of our friends. ;)

:focus:
One of my nephews assures that this movie will celebrate 100 days, if not the silver jubilee week! :thumb:

P.S: He could see the first show on the first day, without paying extra charges for the ticket,

because one of his friends owns a theater.

Movie is based on plight of Malaysian Tamils...It is a out & out Masala movie as per leaked review

Except Shivaji films, the Tamil hits of other heroes are primarily masala movies, except few like Uthiri Pookkal.

Saw the movie yesterday here in Abu Dhabi... Not the typical rajini fare... Slow screenplay... Bit different and age shows... But maybe it will do well... A confused rajini movie
