Yatra danam will be performed before the bridegroom leaves the house for marriage. Actually the pooja is to be performed by the parents of the groom and the groom with the guidance of vadhyaar. The parents will with manja thengai take the blessings of the elders before commencing the pooja. A manja pillyar will be set and as usual a Ganapathi pooja. Then the vadhyaar will make a pack with rice and thoor dhal in a towel and give it to the boy and this packet would be taken along with the groom when he leaves for Kasi Yatra. After the pooja a coconut will be broken (Soorai Thengai) before God Ganesa while leaving home.
