Kasi Gaya yathra

Congratulations on the happy news in your family!

Now, regarding your second daughter-in-law’s pregnancy and your plan to visit Kasi or Gaya and perform tharpanam - here's what our tradition generally follows:

There’s no restriction for you (as the father-in-law or elder in the family) to visit Kasi or Gaya and do tharpanam, even if your daughter-in-law is pregnant.

However, if your son is accompanying you, and he is the husband of the pregnant lady, then some families may choose to avoid such trips during the pregnancy period — especially during the first trimester (first 3 months) or if the pregnancy is delicate. This is mostly due to emotional and practical reasons (long travel, spiritual dos and don’ts, stress, etc.), not because of any strict vedic restriction.

Also, traditionally, pregnant women themselves do not travel to shraddha sthalas like Kasi/Gaya or enter the area where tharpanam is performed. Again, this is more out of care and concern for the health and energy around than any "dosham."

To keep it simple:
  • You can go and perform tharpanam without any issue.
  • No theetu or dosham affects the pregnant daughter-in-law because of your visit.
  • Just let her and your son know so they can avoid certain things on that day like auspicious activities or temple visits, if they want to be extra careful. Not compulsory.

If there's a family sampradayam or elderly advice being followed, you may want to align with that as well.
