I read Tamil novels when I was in school...After that there was no opportunity...Got too busy in studies and then work! If it was a short story I do read..But there is no time for novel-English or Tamil!!

Dear RR ji,

This is the exact reason why people who want to learn Tamil shy away from learning Tamil cos they are harshly judged for errors while speaking or writing.

I only started speaking Tamil rather well after the age of 19 before that I used to make mistakes and those who spoke Tamil fluently made fun of how I spoke.

Those who know Tamil well can be harsh to point out or even mock mistakes of others.

But these same Tamil "scholars" do not view those who make mistakes in other languages as harshly.

I feel to encourage anyone to speak..read...write Tamil...mistakes should not be viewed harshly after all mistakes in English are not viewed as harshly.

Tamils should be encouraging to those wanting to learn Tamil and not expect perfection right away after all perfection does not exist.

Do you know that central secretariat library has 550000 volumes in hindi ,regional languages including Tamil. One can get

access to thousands of tamil books and novels dating upto 50 -60 years back.One can borrow upto six books at a time. It was

located at Tulsi sadan ,now temporarily shifted to bahawalpur house due to metro work.

Though Tamizh Thatha learned Carnatic Music, he was not showing any interest in learning Telugu. He gave utmost importance to Tamil.

We may not expect such disciplined thinking from the oldies as well as youngsters from our community. Oldies are primarily interested in singing Telugu kirthanis with any understanding of the language or not. The interest has to come naturally.

There is a committee under PMO in Delhi to promote Tamil Language, called Tamil Language Learning and Promotion Committee. It was constituted some 9-10 years back with an aim to promote usage of Tamil language at various levels, conducting various Tamil cultural events, publicity and spreading for Tamil literature and also organizing various activities like seminars and symposiums on Tamil literary works. Every year several cultural events are being conducted by the committee in Delhi and else where. This year also several programs were held from January to April-2016

You may not know how the tambrahms unable to converse in Hindi are looked down upon by those who are settled in

North India! This is the pride of knowing a language!!

BTW, to write chaste Tamil needs lot of patient learning. Now that Tamil medium schools are very less in number,

the language will slowly lose its good writers!

P.S: I get panicky when I see spell errors in many of the Tamil blogs! What to do?
