Boycott Sun TV and Other Dravidian TV Programs...

Another choice for Tamil Brahmins other Forward Caste is to Boycott Sun TV and its group TV programs. Why watch Sun TV and give them prosperity instead watch other channels, boycott all DMK party programmes, televisions, radio and anything to do with. I am sure we have good programs in other channels.

"Nothing is impossible I try to do nothing"

Hi i beleieve reservation as whole would definitely pull down the Quality.
As i live and work in North America we have to prove ourself doubly given the skin color.
I cant imagine the plight of IT projects to be handled out there in india if substandard engineers start working on it. given the position India being transformed into a Knowledge HUB, it could completely reverse the good work done by people like Infosys Narayanasamy.
these Politicians R out to wreck everything.
VERY VERY VERY SAD indeed..

Some ideas !

Some ideas :
I have been following the discussion thread and i;m glad to note
an online presence of bhramins.
In light of recent developments - i.e 69% reservations in pvt and public educational institutions - I wondered abt the plight and future of bhramin children in India.
Some ideas I could think of to improve and/or safeguard our situation would be :
1. Become enterpreneurs: The basis for this suggestion is the
assumption made by the public that FCs are a prosperous lot.
If one becomes an enterpreneur one's future is atleast in one's own hands. In a booming economy like India, there is a lot to be gained
if one is willing to take a measured risk.
2.Vocational education : Since Carnative music and bharatnatyam have long been a bhramin stronghold, why not use it to our advantage ?
In india today the fact that other castes are willing to become priests will only improve their appreciation for our culture.
These days anyway professional singers and dancers make a killing in performaces alone.
3.Alternative routes to the same goal :
a. Take a year off to crack the entrace exam in tamilnadu/ all-india exams. Most students dont do this and prefer to take the exam in the rush and clamour right after their boards. If you are at a disadvantage, why not use the system as well ?
b. If one is denied btech/be/medical seats : Remember, even a BSC-MSC degree will ensure a meritorious place in an M.S program abroad. You can always make up for lost time in life.
c. Look for Btech programs abroad.
4. For those of us in other countries - The safest solution, if one is looking to return to india for family reasons, is to ensure dual citizenship first for oneself and/or one's children. This will alteast prevent you from being at the mercy of inscrupulous politicians.
5. Those of us for whom dual citizenship is not an option - return to India only when you are guaranteed a good position and salary back home. After all, the worst thing to happen to a person these days it seems is to be poor bhramin !!

Bottomline : Every cloud has a silver lining ! Being put in a corner forces bhramins to outperform their competition. Besides, being forced to look outside of india for education can be an enlightening experience as well as it lends a person a world-view of things. Experience in dealing with people from across the world is priceless and it is very unlikely that those people who have the easy way out through quotas and are not forced to venture out will develop such skills.

what do you think ?

Hi GRajendran i live in canada to be prcise.Well i am not aware of affiirmative program or so.but I am aware of lots of benefits offered to Natives like very less taxes, free land up north, and subsided school fees etc.
its all good since they R at the bottom of the society.
But if one has the talent one can shine pritty well in this part of the world.
Also i dont think narayamoorthy is ordrinrary he is visionary not many companies R there that could be compared to infosys at that time.
I am not at all against reservation let it be economical based one.

As responsible brahmin parents we should educate our children on reservations in unoiversities when they are in 12th standard . for example most young brahmin children come to know of it only during admissions who otherwise might try even better .

I think Brahmin children should be educated much earlier about this - the sooner they know the better.

Besides I think we also need to look at creative career options.

If anyone knows engg brahmin students in their final year particularly from private engg colleges I have a group of people who can give good guidance and help in finding jobs . If it is govt college they will anyway get one . I do this for atleast a few every year and they inturn help other brahmins

Bravo dear brothers & sisters!

I am happy to be here, not trying to sound like a Brahmin-fanatic, but just as a human.

A Request:

1. Please try to make the points simple. It strains the eyes to read lonnnng posts.

2. If possible, please number them. It is easy to read step by step than a whole paragraph.

3. Please avoid commenting directly to the previous person's post. The objective of the thread is lost otherwise.

4. I had to look up a couple of times to see 'what is the agenda of this discussion'.

5. Please stick to simple and short sentences.

1. We need to stand up for ourselves. No one else can help us. Even in our own country, there are loads of brahmin-hatred fellows whose reasoning are both valid and invalid. We must get united.

2. Be strong in your mind and body. The same brahmin-hatred fellow thinks twice before commenting on Chrisitians, Muslims and other North-Indian brahmins because they will give it back then and there.

3. Love & Compassion towards other Hindus. As another gentleman pointed out somewhere, there must not be any superiority complex in Brahmins.

4. Teach Vedas & Sanskrit in their own context. Relate them to the scientific values and people will appreciate. They also will grow stronger against these missionaries.

5. Money. This should be routed to a non-profit but very very strong and pure organization which should work towards the uplifment of the poor masses. The locals and the NRI's must devote at least 1% of their salary every month, towards this noble cause. நம்மளை நாமே காப்பாத்திக்காட்டா யாரப்பா காப்பாத்துவா? நமக்கு நாமே தான் உதவணும்.

6. Now where is that non-profit..etc organization where we can devote all our attention to? It is definitely not the VHP, RSS or BJP. No politics here, please. This must be an organization for the people by the people.

7. Protect Dharma and it will protect you is the keyword. We must first adhere to our dharma strictly. Do the Sandhyavandanam at least once a day and try to stick to your duties.

8. As another gentleman pointed out, let there be a University abroad which will sponsor online education and distance education for the students in India.

10. Let us form such an organization first. This is what we need to do. Please suggest ideas and let us start drafting an action plan to implement it. Let the year 2009 see us progress towards this goal.

Survival of Brahmins

The gothram name which gives us the identity in being a Brahmin, is actually the name of a person who had realized god/self. He had established himself to such greatness that a family tree continued to benefit from his highest life style - spirituality.

The person referred by our gothram did not or at least, was not necessarily born into a Brahmin family. But, was one who raised himself to one with being in the state of Brahman.

If we can simply follow his ideal of life - spirituality, rather than holding on to it as a caste only or simply a religious lineage, we would be able to help Brahmins come out of the "Diminishing lives/fortunes".

By being spiritual, we may not achieve this just in our live span alone, but will lay a strong foundation for the next generation to follow. Being in material life, we do need to have material prosperity, social respect and acceptance. These can be achieved by being spiritual, which is an internal one and not external. Laws of nature/god's karmic law is still the same as when Brahmin's evolved. Only the times have changed a bit modern.

Our forefathers faced a lot of problems and so do we. The only difference in their approach was to delve into spirituality and leave the rest to god.

Leaving my motherland is not an option at all. Why should I?

The setbacks and roadblocks are temporary and will not last for long. I am pretty sure that brahmins today are not disliked or hated by people of other communities.

Those who shout anti-brahmin slogans are for their vote-banks and this act of theirs serves very limited purpose.

As compared to the previous generation, to which I belong, the present generation youth are certainly not 'anti-brahmin' in their outlook and behaviour. Times have changed for the better, with the advancement of education, science and media explosion.

Wait for another 10 years, at the most. Most of the hardliners of today will not survive that long.

Let us have patience and will have our way gradually and prove ourselves right.

The ultimate success is ours.

Knowledge is power ie Maha-Saraswathi Devi's Arul.

Automatically Maha-Lakshmi Devi's Arul will occur,IMHO.Tamil Brahmin's wherever you are,Anbe Shivam will be always there for Shaivites and Govinda Govinda Sharanam Mama for Vaishnavites and Brahman's Arul for the Brahmanaa's of Earth,ROFL. :)

Is spiritual develpment an answer?

Is there anyone who believes, spiritual development of individual(s) will help them and the society and there by would also uplift each community (not only the brahmin community)?

Dear SV-ji,

No, i don't think so. We are primarily concerned with material development. Spiritualism (though we give importance to it) somehow does not figure in the material scheme of things.

If anyone is interested in spiritual stuff, it is at his own individual level. Such a man wud automatically be seen as non-competitive person incapable of material accumulation or development i suppose.

Dear HH,

Thank you for your frank opinion. The reason for my asking this was in relevance to our topic "what choices we tamil brahmins have to improve our diminishing lives/fortunes".

Brahmins are a community evolved out of their spiritual roots and not out of material pursuit. If we are primarily concerned with material development as you say, then why should be worry about "diminishing live/fortunes of (tamil) brahmins"? We should then only be worried about diminishing lives/fortunes of our own career or family prospects and not about brahmins.

On your other comment "If anyone is interested in spiritual stuff, it is at his own individual level. Such a man wud automatically be seen as non-competitive person incapable of material accumulation or development i suppose." - There have been many thousands of spiritual people in this world who have lived and are living a very competently, having considerable material wealth, development (internal and external). In fact that is primarily what Rama, Krishna, Basaveshwara of historic times did. In fact, even agasthya did accumulate wealth for a purpose but was not attached to it.

The successful lives of these people sought to tell us, was to be detached to wealth, though not being away from it. Detachment to wealth is not being incapable or incompetent.

Dear SV-ji,

Thankyou very much for explaining this so nicely and so precisely.

For a longtime, i was considered 'useless', now you are showing me an 'other side' that i can hope to develop.

Thanks again.
