Their circulation and revenue thru' advt vary in direct proportion to the juicy gossips.

See the TV channels also. They show the same video again and again a thousand times
and thrive on hot news.

If you complain they will be happy that there are many viewers.

Vikatan is run by a brahmin and we know they are staunch devotees of the mutt. I guess someone report to them. dinamalar never does this

Dinamalar will always praise Their own activities. You can see daily in Dinamalar that they will praise themselves on their own paper. They will release their own Photos of their day to day activity daily in their paper.

What's going on with the Murder Case of Kanchi Seer?

Now it's almost 6 years ago, Kanchi Seer was arrested on capital murder charges... I heard the case is now in Pondicherry court.

Can someone write about the "inside story" of this case?

Now, our Hon'able CM Jaya who indicted and arrested the Seer is back in power... What's her current position on this?

My gut feeling is Seer is innocent... but somebody in the Mutt has some connection with the Goondas who slaughtered Sankar Raman... I maybe totally wrong.

I want to hear some considered views on this very serious matter.

Cheers.

Y,

Y, there are couple of irrefutable facts about this case, (i) SR was a fierce critic of Sankara Matam under the present acharya and (ii) he was brutally hacked down.

Whoever was the guilty of the murder, the accusations of SR made against the institution and its leadership remain. Unless a fair and independent inquiry is conducted and the report published, these charges will remain as a blot.

Unfortunately, there are major financial irregularities that go on SV institutions that I am familiar with. To the extent they get government protection and tax exemption, proper public audit must be conducted and the report published for these institutions also.

Cheers!

K, I know you did not mean any harm, but this is not a laughing matter, SR got brutally murdered and his family and the society at large have not seen justice done.

Cheers!

nara,

who says, my version of the events, could not have happened?

hasn't wars broken out, over translation fiascos?

if you go through the archives, re a past thread on the same subject, you would find me a passionate supporter for justice to be done to sankarraman, his memory and family.

from what i gather, there are no more witnesses to testify in favour of raman anymore :(

nara, Y,

needless to say that i am more than thrilled at you guys' quest for justice re sankarraman (sr).

in real life, sr represented the most traditional wing of the orthodoxy, afaik, and his gripe against the seer, was the seer's penchance for opening up new institutions, dialogues with the muslims, and serving food for the dalits in the kanch peetam mess hall. all these opposed tooth and nail by the conservative wing of the mutt, who believed that the mutt head, remain in the mutt, and promote the brahministic orthodoxy, for which it is famous.

these conservatives would hark back to the previous seer, and his reactionary views (one that irked me among others, his insistence of my dad's recently widowed cousin with 5 young daughters, shave her head, and wear white, if she wanted a consolation darshan from him circa late 1950s ) for which i had no use. there is now a move to sanctify the previous mutt head, as a saint, as can be seen by many posts here and elsewhere.

so, in all probability, had sr lived, who knows where we would have stood re kanchi mutt affairs. or maybe not stood at all. the affairs of the reformer are being questioned by the orthodoxy, who now have a martyr. meanwhile, the public, gullible or otherwise, are left, with their hands wringing, at the smirch of what they consider a once impeccable reputation of the mutt.

right now, there are few witnesses to testify against the accused. i believe, chances are if mrs sr is given a few crorers, she might even claim that sr was not murdered at all, but an aseerari, came and plucked away her husband's life. money too has its powers, as we all know, to bend, stretch or turn upside down, what we know as truth.

justice. or absence of it, does indeed make bedfellows of us all, for a cause, that we would not touch with a stick, had sr been alive.

wait and watch for injustice to rule. i do not expect anything else to happen. the seer will be back in kanchi, entrenched, and probably turn rightwards in his views, to placate the 'tea party groups' of tambrams, of which, there are quite a few, equally as shrill and intolerant, as their american counterparts.

hi K sir,
the same thing happened to my family too....my mother is widow...more than 40 yrs...she is not shaved her head/not wearing

white saree....even my younger brother was student at kanchi veda patasala...he was very close to mahaperiavaa ...the senior

pontiff...he was his personal assistant too....even then my mother was not allowed in mutt....or to see the seer....i know

the real story.....but i can not digest certain things of mutt...its okay....my mother never visited mutt.......infact she is against

to all kinds of madathu peruchalis...i know the how the inner circle works.....but each and every action has opposite and reaction

will be there....newton's third law...it applies every where.....

......these conservatives would hark back to the previous seer, and his reactionary views
K, I am sure you will agree that even if SR was a rank conservative, practicing Brahminism to its wicked core, still he does not deserve to be hacked to death.

Further, you may note, with SR gone, no renaissance has blossomed in the thinking of these Matams; for every conservative who speaks out from outside the Matam, there are many silent enforcers inside. These matams still preach all the dreadful and conservative Brahminical ideologies that you say SR wanted to preserve.

Any changes one may see these days are personal convenience driven relaxation of strict rules of austerity, which only makes it worse, at least in earlier times they were just reactionary, now they are hypocritical and reactionary.

In summary, these matams are no less reactionary today compared to the previous era, with SR alive or dead. How much more of a right turn there is to turn?

I still do hope justice is done, not just for SR's family, but for the society at large and for the rule of law. But, I am not holding my breath. Many a murder committed by the rich and powerful go unsolved, and this one has to be chalked up as one more such murder.

Cheers!

tbs,

i happened to know a few, who were big peruchalis, a nice term thank you, in government and who did earn a lot of money by illegal means. who, on retirement, declared their intention to serve God, took commanding positions in the kanchi mutt, and were the typical 'poojaris' whose varam you had to get, to see the big guy. the old big guy, as these happened in the 1960s.

not that it means much to me, but these guys, during their work heyday, consumed alcohol and ate meat without any inhibition. they turned 180 degrees on joining the mutt and i think, hypocracy is a mild word, for these type of guys.

i find, that it is the poor tambrams who are nowadays, strongest adherents of the mutt. the rich and even the middle class, have no use for it anymore. the middle class has now taken to referring to the previous mutt head, and is in the process of sanctifying him. personally, i think, he was no better than the current one, though of a different kind of reactionary values.

hi K sir,
i agreed with u......too bad 1950's and 1960's.......there is no attitude towards to protect the community......just fill the belly....now not

possible anymore... the days are gone......

Late Sankara Raman was very close with the senior Pontiff and was enjoying lot of privileges from the Mutt. When HH Jayendra Saraswathi
became the pontiff,he chose some other person in place of Late.Sankararaman.Deprived of all benefits he was enjoying earlier,he became a staunch critic of HH.Jayendra Saraswathi and started a smear campaign against HH.Jayendra Saraswathi. He has written lot of letters to different people alleging that mutt funds are misused under HH.Jayendra Saraswathi. After his murder, there was a natural suspicion that mutt
may be involved.
There was pressure from DMK that they will start agitation if the head of Kanchi Mutt is not taken into custody and investigated. Ms.JJ had to act
to avoid the agitation. The Supdt of Police in charge of the case kept the copy of the charge sheet in front of Lord Varadaraja Swamy
before submission of the charge sheet in the court stating that the murder took place inside the temple and so the Lord may be knowing the real
culprit. The Lord cannot appear in the court and give evidence against the real culprit.
The Supdt of Police who investigated this case was reported in the newspapers to have been dismissed from service for some misconduct not connected with the murder case.Perhaps he may be in a position to state as to what happened at that time.
Perhaps we may not come to know who was the real culprit and what was the motive for the murder.

I guess there are some people here who would not miss a heart beat when it comes to discussing brahmin vs brahmin dispute. They have no comments on alleged wire-tapping of the mutt, which was the object of starting this thread.

Talk about thread-highjacking.....!!!

One news paper noted that after the arrest of Sri Jayendrar the brahmin community maintained such a calm. No protest was even held at kanchipuram.
The mutt and the pontiff became very commercialised. They were talking and giving importance only to Big money people and business man but what they should not forget is the fact the MIDDLE class which supported the mutt during case time right from 2004 till date. The big businessmen who got favours thru mutt ran away fearing JJ.
We need to write to vikatan and ask them to stop this nonsense

The people around the Seer are major thugs, which is why the middleclass is afraid of going anywhere near them these years. It is the fault of the Seer to have allowed major building contractor and other businessmen to decide the course of the mutt/Trust.

hi
phone tapping in mutt......its not a new thing in the world.....no celebraty can escape from phone tapping....if it is politician.cine field

or any religious head.......the media wants hot subjects.....சூடான மட்டும் பரப்பான செய்திகள்....

The ordinary devotee goes there and he has been the pillar of the mutt. sadly, rich and the influential people have taken over the mutt. Post the SR case things were great in the mutt. Everyone was treated equally but now things have changed. Its back to the good olden days.

It is okay if you don't sympathize, but at least rude remarks can be avoided.

பைரவன்,

this was no rude remark. it is irony.

IRONY

for your benefit, i cut and paste here, what i meant:

Irony is an implied discrepancy between what is said and what is meant. The use of words to convey the opposite of their literal meaning; a statement or situation where the meaning is contradicted by the appearance or presentation of the idea.

Three kinds of irony:

1. verbal irony is when an author says one thing and means something else.
2. dramatic irony is when an audience perceives something that a character in the literature does not know.
3. irony of situation is a discrepency between the expected result and actual results.

பைரவன்,

this was no rude remark. it is irony.

I re-read K's original post. I do not see how his remark fits into any of the categories listed as a definition for irony.

I still think the remark made about SR's wife is in bad taste. It is a personal attack on a person who cannot come here to defend herself. I suspect it was made only because she happened to be the wife of an orthodox brahmin and smacks of extreme prejudice.

K,N,Y,

I came to know from some reliable persons that this sr married from TVM. It seems he was not in favour of JS right from the beginning since JS was not following the senior Kanchi Seer. Some people even say that the well-known talakaveri escapade of JS happened because sr brought some misdemeneur on the part of JS, who was only a junior then, to the Senior's notice and the senior gave JS a firing.

As K has rightly said money seems to be playing its role and JS may turn out to be a "good boy" eventually for the powers that be.

But my personal view is that the senior was so utterly inexperienced that he selected JS who was an extremely reluctant candidate for the renunciate's role and wanted to become an engineer. JS, is probably a victim of poverty in young age!
