I listened to a wonderful Saxaphone concert by Mr. Shyam Murali (young college student). He played Baagayanayaa nee in raagam chandra jyothi - It looks like that there is only this song in this raagam.

KAmavardhani and PanthuvarALi.

These names represent the same rAgam which is the pradhimadhyama rAgam of MAyAmALavagowLa.

The name KAmavardhani came into existence because of the 'katapayAdhi mELa chakram'.

(ka - dhi nava - 9; ta - dhi nava - 9; pa - dhi panchama - 5 and ya - dhi ashtaka - 8 is how the numbers are given to the letters.

ka to jjha 1 -9; ta to ddha 1 -9; pa to ma 1 - 5; ya to ha 1- 8. ஞ and ன = 0)

This happens to be the rAgam 51 in the mELa chart and hence this name was given to the existing PanthuvarALi.

When the numbers of the first two letters of the rAgam are taken and reversed we get the mELa rAgam's number in the chart.

In this: Ka - 1 ma - 5 and hence reversing 15 we get the rAgam number 51.

That is why SankarAbharaNam became Dheera SankarAbharaNam (29)

KalyANi became MEcha KalyANi (65)and ThOdi became Hanuma ThOdi (08)

One more fascinating fact is that MayAmALavagowLa and KAmavardhani have numbers 15 and 51 and

have only ma1 and ma2 as the difference!

I also found a rendering of seesa ganga by Sanjay Subramaniam in mediafire.com, but the audio quality wasnt good.

1. I can't read Malayalam fonts easily. If you need the lyrics, please wait for sometime. My younger sister will transliterate for us!

2. I too saw the rAgam given as Dhanashree!! But so far I have heard only in Sindhubairavi.
