சிந்தனை செய் மனமே - அம்பிகாபதி (main song in kalyAni raga) with a beginning prayer in Gambira nAttai and the ending is in shanmugapriya .........
Dear Prof. Sir,

Two corrections please!

NAttai rAgam is 'gambeeram' in this song. But it is not Gambeera NAttai which has S G2 M1 P N2 S. - S. N2 P M1 G2 S only.

R3 -shatsruthi rishabam - appears in NAttai rAgam. :) (rarely D3 also)

And the third rAgam is MaNirangu. S R2 M1 P N1 S. - S. N1 P M1 G1 R2 S

Note: The numbers 1 2 used for swarams denote Komal and Theevra respectively.

R3 of NAttai rAgam is = G1

Thanks for the correction - At least I got one of them (one out of three) - otherwise it will be three strikes and I am out (baseball analogy and penal code ) Three strikes law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The first rAgA I meant to write nAttai - wrote with gambIram (proud) and made it into gambIra nAttai and fell flat on my face :(

I wanted to mention that the post #822 http://www.tamilbrahmins.com/music-dance/6883-thullatha-manamum-thullum-83.html#post129315 was in gambIra nAttai and the song was composed by OththukkAdu Venkata kavi -

Salutations to the learned ones and I am still learning (in an eternal student phase)

Dear Prof. Sir,
We are all students who learn something new everyday! :ranger:

Gambheera NAttai happens to be a rAgam and hence I wrote how it differs from NAttai!

I wonder how you did not get MaNirangu. The mistake usually made is identifying the rAgam with Sree.

One more lesson: :)

MaNirangu: S R2 M1 P N1 S. - S. N1 P M1 G1 R2 S

Sree: S R2 M1 P N1 S.
- S. N1 P D2 N1 P M1 R2 G1 R2 S

I should confess that I missed manirangu completely - My mind was wandering when I was listening சிந்தனை செய் மனமே. This particular song was a favorite song of one of my classmates when we were studying 7th standard (or 2nd form ) eons ago. I was reminiscing the olden days when I posted. Thanks for an excellent exposition on manirangu and many songs and kritis on this rAga. I was most familiar with mAmava pattabhi rAma. I am also listening to natEsam namAmi satatam as the lyrics mesmerize me!

My dad used to tell an interesting anecdote about my eldest sister while she was a toddler! Dad had a great collection of

gramophone records released by ''His master's voice". All the records looked alike but my sister used to cry when the record

of 'RAnidhi' in MaNirangu is taken from the pile of records! She hated to listen to the song sung by Musiri ( I think ).

No one knew how she was able to find it out! May be the length of the song, rAgam and singer printed on the red lable??
