A proverb a day to brighten the day.

302a.
Gleich und gleich gesellt sich gern.
302b. Birds of a feather flock together.

Birds of a feather flock together. Persons of the same opinion stick together.
A flock of crows will peck on a solitary cuckoo seen among them.

It is not just man who hates the others who look different from him.
Many animals and birds do precisely the same thing in wilderness.

footnotes:-
Gleich = Equal / Similar
und = and
gleich = equal / similar
gesellt = joined
sich = themselves
gern = happily.

Put into practice this theoretical knowledge.

God is one but each religion gives Him different attributes. Once man understands this, there will no more fights caused by religions.

:unsure: :unsure:

'ஆ' வை மட்டும் 'யா' என்று மாற்றுங்கள்;

Apparently the song referred to in the above post
இருப்பாய் நீ மடநெஞ்சமே!" was not composed by my grandfather.
I am still confused that all along I had believed it to be his creation. :(

304b. As we sow, so we reap.

The pundit who had mastered 18 languages!

There was a pundit in a king's durbar. He could speak 18 different languages with equal ease and perfection. Nobody could guess his mother tongue - however much they tried to.

The court jester took it upon himself the task of solving this puzzle.

He poured ice cold water on the pundit when he was in deep slumber. The pundit jumped out his bed screaming and scolding in his mother tongue.

Moral:
One may act /pretend/ pose while wide awake. But in sleep the truth emerges!

Composer of that song is Shuddhananda Bharati.
Sri. Sanjay starts the pallavi as "ellām Sivan seyal".

A proverb a day to brighten the day.

305b. Barking dogs seldom bite.
[ I know not whether the barking dogs know this rule].

Barking dogs seldom bite!
Do all the dogs know this rule?

What if they know the rule very well and still want to disobey it -
just for the fun of springing a surprise on the unsuspecting victim?

footnotes:-
Bellende = Barking
Hunde = dogs
nicht = do not
beißen = bite.
Ich = I
weiß = know
nicht = not
ob = if
die = the
bellenden = barking
Hunde = dogs

Regel = rule!

A proverb a day to brighten the day.

306b. Don't look at the gifted horse in its mouth.

Gifts are of many different types;

Some are recycled - to save money or space or both;
Some get passed on - since the owner does not like it or need it;

Some are given to suit the position of the giver;
Some others are given to suit the position of the receiver.

A gift is gift - whatever may be the background story.
One must honor the gift - just as one must give a honorable gift.

footnotes:-
Nicht = Do not
schau = see / look
auf = at
das = the
begabte = gifted
Pferd = horse
in = in
seinem = his
Maul= mouth.

Oil and Water.

These two do not mix well nor go well together anywhere and at any time. Oil has a tendency to keep on spreading farther and farther, in any surface. Small wonder human mind is often compared to oil - since it spreads thought - waves endlessly in every direction.

If oil catches fire, one must nit use water to put it out. That will make the fire burn higher with fearsome crackling sounds and make the flame jump put of the pan and break into many smaller flames.

Oil and water do not go well in the bathroom - more so when the new ultra fancy and
easy-to -clean tiles are used in the bathroom. They are easy not just to clean but also to slip and suffer a severe fall followed by an Unfall (aka accident).

The problems of the most of the super senior start with a fall and often become very serious and at times even fatal. Falls are treacherous in elders since their bone mass, bone strength and the fat and muscle protection to the bones have got reduced to the minimum.

The older people do not have enough strength to get back on their feet. The other older people around them are themselves standing on shaky legs - unable to help the victim.

It is wisdom to prevent the fall by any means - than become bedridden with a broken hip or spine or ribs! :(

A proverb a day to brighten the day

307a. Blut ist dicker als Wasser.
307b. Blood is thicker than water.

Blood USED to be thicker than water in the past.
I am not so sure of it anymore!
Am I growing wiser as my hair grows whiter?

In the group game called "Passing the parcel" every person would handle the parcel as if it were a hot potato! Now human being are handled in pretty much the same way.

As long as you remain a good potato you will be left alone. If you become a rotten potato with some health issues, your fate will be decided by the others.

footnotes:
Blut = Blood
ist = is
dicker = thicker
als = than
Wasser = water.

Human brain has infinite capacity and memory.
I wonder what % of it being put to use by most of us! :(

A proverb a day to brighten the day.

308b. Haste makes waste. You do it twice, when it is done in a hurry.

When we do something in a great hurry it does not get done well.
Then we will have to undo what we have done and redo it correctly again.
So we will be wasting more time in trying to save time.

Weile - liesure.
Du = You
machst = do

A school of thoughts is a collection or group of people who share common characteristics of opinion or outlook of a philosophy, discipline, belief, social movement, cultural movement and art movement.

Schools are often classified into “new” and “old” schools. However, it is rarely the case that there are only two schools in any given field.

Schools are often named after their founders. They are often also named after their places of origin.We will look into some of the popular schools of thought and what they say briefly, here in this thread.

When the Pathi and Sathi are both 'putty' strange things start happening.

If the Pathi ( the husband) is putty ( white clay) which can be made
into anything by the crafty hands of his scheming wife (Sati).

If Sathi ( the wife ) is a putty ( a dog) with no scruples as to The Right and The Wrong.

Paired together they can cause havoc in the world - if they are in power.
Paired together they can stage endless dramas and entertain the world.

"Mind your business!"

This sounds very curt and hurts. So learn the more polished ways of pushing the same idea smoothly and without causing additional friction. :)

1. " Please let it go!"

2. " Please keep out of this!"

3. " I do not want to discuss about it"

4. "I do not want to hear about it"

5. "I know what I am doing!"

6. "I am not a kid to be spoon fed!"

If you can thing of more such sentences please add them to this list!

A proverb a day to brighten the day.

310b.
Health is wealth.
When wealth is lost, something is lost.
When health is lost, everything is lost.

Man works day and night - amassing wealth, while ruining his health.
Later he spends the amassed wealth, in a vain attempt to become healthy.
No amount of money can bring back or buy back the perfect good health.
