AN ONION AND THE HUMAN BODY.


An onion seems to hold a sacred secret in its layers. But as we remove the layers one after another, we look foolish when there is nothing hidden in the womb of the onion. The onion resembles the human body in many respects.


There is an Atman in a human body; there are two faculties which act ceaselessly called the Mind and the Intellect. There are three sareerams viz the Sthoola sareeram, the Sookshma sareeram and the Kaarana sareeram.


There are five Pranaasa; six senses and seven dhaathus in a human body. There ten Indriyaasa – five gnaana indriyaas and five karma Indriyaas. When we discard them one by one saying ,”Not this! Not this!” we discover the formess Atman hidden inside the body very much simlar to the secret hidden within an onion.


The Body, Mind, Intellect and Emotions in a human body consists of both Chetana and Achetana. If we can seperate the Sat from the Asat just a swan separates milk from water, we can cling to the Sat and neglect the Asat.

ATMA BALAM.


When certain temple priests were bachelors they refused to go to the palace to meet the King.They always made the king come to them, for anything he or they might need.They were rich in Atma Balam and so the King did not mind visiting them.


But once they got married and begot children, they started making a bee line to the palace for any puny reason – so that they will get extra DhakshinA from the king to meet their ever growing expenditure.
