He started at her awed;
The well dressed broad.

Her name was Miss. Claude;
In reality she was a bawd.

She might look like a God;
Her character was flawed.

He her beauty he did laud;
In reality she was a fraud.

She impressed him as a mod
But she could satisfy a squad

If any man gives her a nod
He was sure to get clawed!

It was by no means very odd
In her purse she had to wad!
 
In ancient India 'Raman' was the most common name.

How else can you explain that three out of the ten important avatars of VishNu were named Raman.

The people who were all named Raman were distinguished from one another by the addition of suitable adjectives.

So it was Parasu Raman, Raghu Raman and Balaraman.

The names and habits of the important people in any time of history reflect on their society.

The G7 summit held recently seven heads of states participated.

One of them had married a woman a quarter century younger than him.

Another had married a woman quarter of century OLDER than him.

Another head of a state had married another man.

So does this reflect the concept of marriage and marriageable partners of the current world OR NOT??? :decision:

மனிதர்களில் மூன்று வகைகள் உண்டு,
முதல் வகை, நடு வகை, கடை வகை;
முதல் இரு வகையினர் அறிவார் தாங்கள்
முதலையின் பிடியில் சிக்கி உள்ளதை!

மூன்றாம் வகையினர் அறியார் தாம்
முதலையிடம் மாட்டிக் கொண்டதையே!
முதலையும், மூர்க்கனும் கொண்டது விடா;
முதலை என்பது மூழ்கடிக்கும் சம்சாரமே!

முழுவதும் உலக விஷயங்களிலேயே
மூழ்கித் திளைத்து வாழ விழைபவர் பலர்;
முயன்று முக்தி அடைய விரும்புவார் சிலர்;
முக்தி அடைந்து விட்டவர்களோ மிகச் சிலரே!

மூன்று பதுமைகள் நீரில் விழுந்தன,
முற்றிலும் அவை நீரில் மூழ்கலாயின;
முதல் பதுமையோ உப்பால் செய்தது,
முற்றிலும் கரைந்து மறைந்தே போனது!

இரண்டாம் பதுமை பஞ்சினால் ஆனது,
இருக்கும் நீரைத் தன்னுள் உறிஞ்சி
பெரிய வடிவம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டது;
பெரிய எடையும் அடைந்து விட்டது!

கல்லினால் செய்த மூன்றாம் பதுமை,
கண்ணிமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் மூழ்கி விட்டது.
கரையவும் இல்லை கனக்கவும் இல்லை;
கண நேரத்தில் நீரின் அடியில் அமர்ந்தது!

கரைந்த பதுமையோ முக்தி அடைந்தது;
கரைந்து நீருடன் அது ஒன்றாகி விட்டது!
இத்தகைய மனிதர்களே இப் பூவுலகில்,
முக்தர்கள் எனப்படும் முதல் வகை ஆவர்.

நீரை உறிஞ்சி கனமான பதுமையோ,
நிறைந்த அருள் மொழிகளைக் கேட்டு,
முக்தி அடையப் பற்று அறுக்க முயலும்,
முமுக்ஷு என்ற இரண்டாம் வகையினர்.

மூழ்கிக் கண நேரத்தில் அடியில் கிடப்பவர்,
மூன்றாம் வகையாம் லௌகீகர் ஆவார்.
இவர்கள் முக்திக்கு முயல்வதும் இல்லை;
இவர்கள் முக்தியை விழைவதும் இல்லை.

கேளுங்கள் தரப்படும், தட்டுங்கள் திறக்கப்படும்;
கேட்டு அறிவோம் விடுதலை பெறும் வழியை!
முயன்றால் முடியாதது இல்லை அல்லவா?
முயலுவோம் முதலையின் பிடியிலிருந்து தப்ப!

The much misjudged Mr. Taft.

Who was named to make the draft?
It was the undependable Mr. Taft!

Did he manage it by giving a graft?
Everyone thought he was a daft!

But all were wrong about Mr. Taft!
He was to the sick a dose of draught;

He was to the refugees a useful raft;
He was to the artists a useful kraft;

He was to the workers a safe haft.
He was to the miners a safe shaft.
 
To use tact or to distract???

His trick was always to distract;
He was unable to act with tact.

His own men, him, never backed;
He did very well know this fact.
It was the right time to form a pact;
It was the right time to follow a tract.

But under the pressure he cracked;
He his trusted man foolishly sacked.

Now he was by everyone tracked;
Now he was by everyone whacked.

He, his tiny honour, had cracked;
He, his credibility, had cracked.

The moment we landed here two weeks ago, my eldest grandson ( 7 years young) handed me a gift bag with a lovely greeting card and a gift for The (Grand) Mother's day - which was already over.

The greetings was made with an old C.D by his very talented and gifted mother.

The gift was a spectacle holder which I needed very badly - since my specks box had got craked by frequent handling and dropping it down randomly.

My better half will get his on the father's day in June.

These gifts are very thoughtful and very useful for older people - who need spectacles ONLY for reading and writing and NOT for constant use.

The holder is lined with a smooth white velvet and stands firm on a magnetic base for extra stability.
 
My youngest grandson (3+) reads English very fluently -

even the material NOT read out to him by his parents.

This is the modern way of learning to read and to remember!

Grandson older to him by 15 months can not read by can recite the whole book by heart.

It was the ancient method of learning by heart - when books were scarce and rare.

These Sanskrit words convey the same concept.

Sruti = hearing and listening to.

Smruti = memorising and remembering what one hears

காட்டுவழியில் தனியே சென்றான்,
கால் நடையாக ஒரு வழிப்போக்கன்,
மூட்டையில் தன் பொருட்களை எல்லாம்,
கட்டித் தன்னுடன் எடுத்துச் சென்றான்.

மூன்று திருடர்கள் வழி மறித்தனர்;
மூட்டைப் பொருளையும் கைப்பற்றி,
தனியனைக் கொன்று வீசிவிடவும்,
தமக்குள் பேசி முடிவு செய்தனர்.

கத்தியை உருவினான் முதல் திருடன்,
கட்டி போட்டான் இரண்டாம் திருடன்,
மூன்றாம் திருடன் அவ்விருவரையும்,
முயன்று தடுத்து அவன் உயிர் காத்தான்!

முதல் இருவரும் முன்னே செல்ல,
மூன்றாம் திருடன் கட்டை அவிழ்த்து
வழித்துணையாக உடன் வந்தான்,
வழிப்போக்கன் செல்லும் வீடு வரை.

உள்ளே அழைத்தும் வர மறுத்து,
உடனே மறைந்தான் அத்திருடன்.
வீட்டை அடைந்ததும் அப்பயணி,
விட்டான் ஒரு நிம்மதி பெருமூச்சு!

உலகமே அந்தக் காடு, அதில் தனியே
உலவிடும் ஜீவனே வழிப்போக்கன்;
மூட்டையின் செல்வம் ஆத்மஞானம்,
மூன்று திருடர்களும் முக்குணங்கள்.

கத்தியை எடுத்த திருடனே ராஜசன்,
கட்டிப் போட்ட திருடனே தாமசன்,
கட்டை அவிழ்த்து விட்டவன் சத்துவன்,
வீட்டை அடைவித்தவனும் அவனே.

வீடே வீடு பேறு! வீட்டை அடைந்தால்
விட்டுப்போகும் நம் அச்சமெல்லாம்.
சத்துவன் நல்லவன் நமக்கு உதவிடினும்,
சத்தியமாய் அவனும் ஒரு திருடனே!

முக்குணம் முற்றிலும் ஒழிந்தால்
மட்டுமே கிட்டும் நமக்கு வீடுபேறு.
வீட்டுக்கு வழி காட்டிய சத்துவனாலும் ,
வீட்டினுள் நம்மோடு வரமுடியாது!

தீவிர பக்தன்





பார்த்தன் மனத்தில் ஒருமுறை,
கர்வம் தோன்றி வளரலானது;
“பாரினில் பரம பக்தன் நானே!”
கார்வண்ணன் சிறிது நகைத்தான்.

“உனக்கு ஒரு நல்ல வேடிக்கையை,
தனித்துக் காட்டுவேன் வா!” எனப்
பார்த்தனை அழைத்துச் சென்றான்,
பார்த்தசாரதி ஓர் தனி இடத்துக்கு.

உலர்ந்து காய்ந்த புல்லை மட்டுமே,
உண்டு உயிர் வாழுகின்ற ஒரு
வினோத மனிதனைக் கண்டு,
வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தான் பார்த்தன்!

படைப்பில் அரியவன் ஆகிய அவன்
இடுப்பில் இருந்த வாளே காரணம்.
புல்லைத் தின்னும் இம் மனிதனிடம்,
கொல்லும் வாளா என வியந்தான்!

வினோத மனிதன் அவனிடம் உரைத்தான்,
“எனது பரம எதிரிகள் நால்வர் ஆவர்;
கண்டதும் கொல்வேன் நான் அவர்களை,
கத்தியும் என்னிடம் உள்ளது பார்!” என்றான்.

“முதல் முதல் எதிரி அந்த நாரதனே;
முழு நேரமும் பாட்டு, வீணை எனத்
தொல்லைகள் பலவும் செய்வான்,
எல்லை இல்லாத நம் இறைவனை!

இரண்டாவது எதிரி திரௌபதியே;
இரக்கம் என்பதே இல்லை அவளிடம்;
உண்ணவிடாமல் வரவழைத்தாள்,
கண்ணனைக் காம்ய வனத்துக்கு!

நீரிலும், நெருப்பிலும், இறைவனை
நுழையச் செய்து, தூணிலிருந்தும்
தோன்றச் செய்தான் நரஹரியாக,
மூன்றாம் எதிரியான பிரஹ்லாதன்.

நான்காம் எதிரி அந்த அர்ஜுனனே.
இறைவனைத் தேர்ப்பாகன் ஆக்கி,
இவன் அமர்ந்தான் அந்தத் தேரில்,
இவன் மேலே, கண்ணன் கீழே என!

பார்த்தனின் பொங்கிய மனோ கர்வம்,
பாலில் தண்ணீர் தெளித்தது போல
நொடியில் அடங்கியது! “தீவிர பக்தன்
தேடினாலும் கிடையான் இவனைப் போல!”

When the pride leads to the fall!

She won just because of a gamble
By the people with ignorance ample.

The pride was too much to handle;
So she flew off the holding handle.

The right royal thinking angle
Surely brings in support ample.

By pride her spangled bangle
Soon transformed to a bramble.

The life in the towering castle
Soon made her intellect dangle.

When she needed to shamble
She rushed in to do a scramble!

Her hasty ugly actions oft did rattle
Resulting in an ugly war or a battle

People she went on to mangle;
The Truth she strived to strangle;

On Justice she did trample;
The Honesty she did rankle.

Occasional win by a wangle
Is sure to lead to a wrangle!




 
People readily share the good fortune and the good life provided by the man in the house.

 Valmiki: A Journey from a Thief to a Rishi

Sage Valmiki, author of the great epic Ramayana was initially a thief. He used to steal valuables and money from travellers and used to feed his family from the loot.

One day he saw the seven divine sages also known as saptrishis and decided to loot them. He took out his dagger and ordered them to give away their valuables.

One of the saptrishi asked him – “Those for whom you commit such a ghastly sin, do they accompany you in it. Ask them. If yes, then we will give away all our valuables.”

Valmiki rushed to his house and asked his family members the same question but to his surprise none rose in his favour. Everyone said that he is a criminal and will be punished by God for his sins.

With a broken heart he returned to the seven divine sages and fell down on his knees. He asked them to curse him for all the sins that he had committed but instead of punishing him, the sages told him to chant “RAM” repeatedly.

Instead of chanting “RAMA”, Valmiki chanted its opposite “MARA” which in Hindi means death and that is when he was blessed by the almighty and thus became enlightened.

This story was narrated by Rishi Valmiki himself to Lord Rama.
