Why does Lord Krishna exhort Arjuna in the famous bhagvad Gita to fight the war even if it is killing his dear ones?
Ancient Hindu society was separated along the mental inclinations of people. The mental inclination was called guna. People live their life best when they follow their nature. It is also for societal good.
Imagine a bloodlust person being to an advisor to a government. Also imagine a person who does not have what it takes to be courageous to be the head of government. Both will fail in their job because the nature of self and nature of job doesn't sync.
Imagine now a war. As long as aggressive instincts are there and people are separated into groups and nations, war at some point or other in time is inevitable. Then it becomes necessary for the warriors to defend their nation.
So a warrior needs to have the courage to fight and see that as his duty. If he shies away the nation falls.
So Krishna gave the right advice by asking Arjuna to do his duty as a warrior and fight even it entails killing his opponents and they happen to be his dear ones. If he fails he falls and the nation falls which is a worse outcome.
Also importantly Arjunas battle was against adharma. So it becomes even more pertinent that he fights the war.
The most important aspect especially in today's context is to decide who fights for dharma and who is adharmic
The most blatant Indication of adharma is display of ego and pride. Especially if the display is Gross and unabashed. It means the person or group is acting out of ego which would very likely point to a clouded mind and prone to errors in judgement and hence prone to stray towards adharmic acts
Ego due to perceived might is most dangerous as it can be the most harmful to others just as that of Duryodhana.
So adharmic acts take place where there is excessive ego and pride and where there is physical might.
Ego is ubiquitous today. It has even become a fashion to display Ego. Today it is mire a fight between lesser dharma and greater dharma.
I pray to God let sanity and clarity prevail and people understand ego satisfaction is like consuming junk which is definitely harmful to you sooner or later. In addition in can affect and on a large scale if you have mass influence.
To protect dharma are any means justified? Means that are used to neutralize the invincibility otherwise of adharma are justified. Stick to dharmic means whenever possible
