Smt.Jayasree Saranathan, a Hindu astrologist of Tamilnadu, has conclusively established that the Tamil tradition was to follow the Tamil New Year Day starting at Chittirai and never at the month of Thai. Here are the links to the two-part Tamil research paper of hers:
