This is day of chhat puja.
This festival celebrated in UP bihar mostly has now reached delhi.starting 6th day of month of karthik.
A day when Surya with usha[chhat maiya] is worshipped by women .
They observe a fast lasting 36 hours taking snan in ganges at the beginning and pray facing sun standing upto beyond knees in ganges water .In delhi it is the yamuna.
The offerings include vegetables ,sugarcane ,fruits -no salt,garlic,onion in cooked food if any carried in in cane open basket on head .
The practice was begun by Karna -surya putra.As per legends Draupadi and Pandavas after return of kingdom and Rama and Sita after return to ayodhya did
chhat puja.
Women also sing chhat songs glorifying chhat maiya..{ you can hear plenty of them on youtube.}
Originally sages promoted reciting verses from rig veda in praise of sun God.
Now it is a colourful festival when workers in delhi from UP and Bihar head home to be with their family.
So only this on TV hindi channels
The daily morning bhajan with ringing of bells has started for Gurunak birthday falling on 14th nov coinciding with kartik purnima.
However the smog in delhi is likely to play spoil sport.
Delhi govt as a delayed reaction has closed all delhi govt schools.
Morning temperature has also come down warranting taking out sweaters for early morning outings.
A hard winter is expected this time .
Best is of course get away from it in dec and jan until after pongal.
Earlier younger days used to love delhi winters .
If it is only pure fog and cold , it can be lovely. But pollution has made life miserable.
The surrounding states burn left overs on agricultural farms adding to delhis misery . Add to it the trucks passing thru delhi .
Delhi has become a mess and an urban jungle not worth living in
