Just noticed the link to the Sri Sathya Narayana Puja booklet provided by Sri Praveen, and followed it. The booklet seems to be an extract from விரத பூஜா விதாநம் published by தி லிட்டில் பிளவர் கம்பெனி சென்னை. Some parts of the booklet surprised me.

The following comments are not meant in any way to criticise or fault the contents of the extract, but are based on my own experience in conducting Maha Vishnu Pujas and other Pujas.

One. At sections 10 and 12 are given manthrams for Ganapathyaathi Pancha-lokapaala puja and Indraathi ashta-dikh-paalaka puja. Section 11 in between is Navagraha Puja.

In pujas I have conducted the five pancha-lokapaalas and the eight ashta-dikh-paalakas are included in the 17-naama loka-paalakas, and are worshipped immediately after Navagraha Puja. The 17 are:-

Two. In section 14, aavaahanam seems to come BEFORE dhyaanam, instead the more normal other way round.

Three. Page 16. Although the event is Sree Sathya Naaraayana Puja, the ashtothram is that of Lord Krishna, one of Lord Naaraayana's ten avathaarams. The (probably more apropriate) Mahaa Vishnu ashtothra naamaa-vali is given below:-

Four.
At bottom of page 18, for samastha rajopacharam only two items, i.e. chchathram and chamaram are given with manthrams. One more, vyajanam, is mentioned, without manthram. The complete 10 items are given below:-

1. chchathram dhaarayaami;
2. chaamare veejayaami;
3. vyajanam veejayaami;
4. nruttham darshayaami;
5. vaadyam ghoshayaami;
6. geetham shraavayaami;
7. andolikaam aarohayaami;
8. ashvam aarohayaami;
9. gajam aarohayaami;
10. ratham aarohayaami.

It is normally up to the practising grahastha and his pathni to guide the vaadhyar as to what are the long-held family practices in these matters. There may well be variations between families. If in doubt, elders, preferably of one's gothram, can be consulted.

Namaskaarams to all readers.

Further to my comments yesterday, on further reading the contents of the very interesting Sri Sathya Narayana Puja booklet provided by Sri Praveen, the following peculiarities struck me:-

Item 3 Poojaarambham - No mention of dharma-pathni (wife) participating, which is essential for all such important functions.

Item 6 Sri Mahaaganapathi samgraha puja - Again, no mention of pathni holding dharppams touching kartha's (husband's) shoulder during sankalppam. (Or her release later, either.)

Item 7 Sathyanaaraayana puja sankalppam - "dharma-pathni sametha" is clearly enunciated. But no indication of her actual participation in any way throughout the proceedings. Even at archana or manthra-pushppam stages.

Same item Page 7, last para - wording should be "thathangam aadithyaathi navagraha poojaam cha indraathi sapthadasha lokapaalaka pujaam karishye."

Item 11 Navagraha pooja - navagraha sooktha manthrams are omitted in the dhyaana-aavahana manthrams, contrary to normal practice. Same with the lokapaalakaas.

Praana Prathishta, Page 13 middle - No instructions given for vital gestures accompanying "aavaahitho bhava...... varatho bhava."

Again, please let me stress that above observations are not intended to criticise the text, the booklet, or its author. They are merely expressions of my surprise at what appeared to me to be significant departures from normalcy.

Dear Swasthika

Appreciate your kind words. You are most welcome to perform the Sri Sathyanaaraayana pooja with your family in the traditional manner.

Please note that the very first naama in the Vishnu ashtothra naama-vali is:-

ஓம் அச்யுதாய நமஹ

Aasheervaathams

ஓம் நமோ பகவதே வாஸுதேவாய !

Thank you for this upload! Only yesterday (03 Dec 2017) I was fortunate enough to perform the Satyanarayana Pooja at a nearby Sai Temple, and today I have possession of the book!

I am delighted to be in this forum ;the useful things like the booklets on slokas, devotional items are all downloaded by me . At times the logging on to the site becomes a problem due to certain hitches in password settings since I forget the PW. But the site is very useful to me. Thanks and keep it up.
