Palin bump? South Carolina GOP longshot Haley now leads - Politics AP - MiamiHerald.com

Nikki Haley - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

yesterday, i was at a get together, where i met one recent summa cum laude high school graduate, who has opted to go to a top notch university, with every penny paid for tuition and hostelling.

no doubt a remarkable achievement. but what amazed me, was the socio political views of this lad, who intends to go to politics is the level of fiscal conservativeness bordering on lack of empathy for the underprivileged.

balancing the budget and living within one's means appears to be the mantra of not only this lad, but quite a few others of the young crowd i meet these days. compared to them, my generation appear like saints.

is it the result of privileged upbringing, without knowing no wants or cares, that results in our desi young in the u.s. or canada, as a default, majority, opting for conservative tinged racist politics? i don't know.

i have attached the urls pertaining to nikki haley - raised in a sikh family to wealthy parents, promoting herself as yet another racist unsympathetic politician in the u.s. deep south, to win votes.

much like what bobby jindal has done in louisiana - sell their souls to win power.

hmmmmppppffffff!!!!!

desi's mingle well either as single or double in west.the younger generation are smart savvy, truthful honest and a no-nonsense attitude with no baggage from originating country.conservative thinking and liberal thinking,is a phase in everyones life, why pick on the young dudes and dudettes, kunjuppu saar?

nachi,

i think what i am trying to resolve within myself, is whether one gets empathetic only through hard knocks.

when the children are gratified for all their wishes and desires, and that too immediately, there probably is no appreciation of deprivement. to these kids, if someone has no bread, they would respond a la marie antoinette, 'why cant they eat cakes?'.

what they do not understand, is that in any society there is a soft underbelly of unables - unable to get a job, unable to study, unable to get on with life, unable to face the day etc.

these need help. or they will move to the streets. be a constant reminder of lack of care. which will culminate in violence. one cannot just wish away the poor and make them disappear.

consider our own brown skins, in a white western culture, the earlier generation were naturally bent towards the underdogs. but now it appears that the cruellest and unfeeling sections have more of their share coming from our community.

i am yet to find a desi who criticizes the unfair and biased u.s. health care system. to them it is 'socialism' to have a universal government funded health care like canada or western europe. or like MK's kalaigner kaapeetu thittam.

these are light years ahead of obamacare, and obamacare is vilified because it is sympathetic to the poor. our desis when they make money and live in comfort are selfish, on a broad brush. in the usa or in india.

Do I not count? I am a desi with dark brown skin!

Obama sold us all out to the drug companies with whom he made a secret deal even though he promised to put all negotiations on C-Span.

-- Cheers!

nara,

here in canada, where we follow the british system of government, and also in india, the prime minister is powerful enough to make effective changes - for the good or bad.

in the u.s the president is still at the behest of the congress and the reactionary senate. i think, obama did not have the power to do more than what he did. even with this, it is likely that the democrats would lose the coming elections.

was it not lyndon johnson who on the eve of signing the civil rights bill said, that with the passage of that bill, the democrats have lost the south for the next 50 years? this was in 1964.

not sure how many more years before the next stage of reform, but the good thing, is that many of obamacare cannot be turned back. these are for good (both meanings).

incidentally my young desi friend termed lyndon a criminal, for the passage of the medicare and medicaid bills.:tsk:

....incidentally my young desi friend termed lyndon a criminal, for the passage of the medicare and medicaid bills.

Wow, that is reactionary...

Many of the desi conservatives embrace Christianity too, Bobby being the most visible example. Ponnuru is another convert to Christianity, Dinesh, obviously a Chritian to begin with, but quite a fundamentalist. Nikki of SC, a Sikh by birth, was questioned about her Christianity and her answer is shamelessly equivocal, she says she believes in almighty and the power of grace.

Obama's power has limits, agreed, but on issue after issue, he has been a disappointment. Even in things that are entirely under his control. He has repeatedly thumbed his nose at his base. At this rate they won't show up at the polls come November.

Cheers!

nachi,

i think what i am trying to resolve within myself, is whether one gets empathetic only through hard knocks.

it all depends upon an individual, whether to thinka knock is hard or soft, imho.

when the children are gratified for all their wishes and desires, and that too immediately, there probably is no appreciation of deprivement. to these kids, if someone has no bread, they would respond a la marie antoinette, 'why cant they eat cakes?'.

i have only two kids to raise and i won't be considered as an authority,to preach to others, about raising children.children are intuitive, and know instinctively things, without any apparent reason or logic.as usually they are gifted with a supra-consciousness,imho.

what they do not understand, is that in any society there is a soft underbelly of unables - unable to get a job, unable to study, unable to get on with life, unable to face the day etc.

if there is a demand there will be a supply.law of conservation.

these need help. or they will move to the streets. be a constant reminder of lack of care. which will culminate in violence. one cannot just wish away the poor and make them disappear.

society, instead of getting reminded, shud act now and take proper care.in society, when one who works very hard in life, and attains wealth, its customary to expect from such a person to share his wealth to the deprived ones in society,on their own accord preferaby rather than promptings from someone else.by and large people do things on their own accord, which is natural and safe.

consider our own brown skins, in a white western culture, the earlier generation were naturally bent towards the underdogs. but now it appears that the cruellest and unfeeling sections have more of their share coming from our community.

skin color is something natural, which naturally people shud like.the case of the other side is always greener syndrome is the main culprit in human globally.our community are seeing splurge of wealth only now.for 1200 years sanathana dharma as it originated got paralysed.thanks to islam,christanity,buddhism,sikhism,jainism...which are all off shoots of our teachings, are independently strong force to reckon with today.sanathana dharma aka hinduism as christened by isalmics,christians...etc is facing the onslaught of conversion.its like the younger generation teaching the older generation, and each generation has a gap.

sir, desi's in west like you are extremely wealthy even in western standards.our desis cope well even in west despite so many trials and tribulations in their lives.obama sir,is an extra-ordinary person, who will bring global peace, with a modicum of war oing here and there, which now i begin to understand georges theory, somewhat.righteousness must win, otherwise adharmic people will keep on killing people, either monetarily,physically,emotionally...etc
