"I will take with me a sense of calmness, and a genuine respect... people don't talk religion here, they live it," Winfrey said.

"It was important for me to go to slums but not show the worst of the worst, but show that people can live in poverty and still have hope and meaning in their lives," said Winfrey, who also called for Indians to work to eradicate discrimination against widows in society.

How well said!! becos people have faith in God that no matter what life has still some hope and meaning.

Oprah is one real intelligent woman and she analyzed the situation in India well and did not think that those who believe in God life below the poverty line.

Sowbagyavathy Renuka, Greetings.

In my personal opinion, 'poverty line' is a subjective quantity. I remember once I was earning Rs.1,000 plus overtime wages in a company. I was living alone at that time. The hut I was renting costed me Rs.50/month; my grocery all told was less than Rs.150/month. In fact, I didn't know what to do with that remaining money ( I was not going to settle there. So, didn't even consider buying plot to build a house on).

'Poverty line' is all about budgetting. I have seen people live very happily and contently with very little money.

Cheers!

Yup, I would like everybody to live luxurious life. But reality is different, we all have to live within our budget. It does not mean that we should limit our expectation or goal. We should strive to get as much as possible, but also understand that we may not reach our expectation.

Like Oprah said "people can live in poverty and still have hope and meaning in their lives".
