On a mission to spread essence of Vedas

Chennai: Rich knowledge is embedded in our Vedas, which we have inherited from rishis and munis. It is a repository of knowledge, social culture, life science and civic administration.

Finer essence of that content not only needs to be preserved, but also should be propagated to reach out to more people, said trustee of Om Charitable Trust L Narayanan.

The trust conducts various competitions, with regard with vedic literature, throughout the year, with an aim to disseminate the importance of Vedas.

Narayanan opens up to News Today on the literature and various activities that are organised by the charitable trust.

'Since 2009, we are conducting inter-patashala vedic competition. It covers aspects related to in the initial stages. The topics for the competition include 'Krishna Yajurveda', 'Rig Veda', 'Sukla Yajur Veda' and 'Sama Veda'. The number of participants has also increased with every passing year', said Narayanan.

Reaching out to the masses is one of the objectives and the other one is to encourage congeniality, confidence and zeal in the minds of veda learners.

The trust's next competition is scheduled to happen between 19 and 21 December at Sri Krishnaswamy Kalyana Mandapam on South Boag Road. The three-day event will witness reverberating vedic recitation, honouring of scholars, quiz programmes, Sanskrit drama, and talent show.

Even 'Sashtras' like 'Mimamsa', 'Vyakarana' and 'Sahitya' were included in the realms of competitions from the last year. 'Sashtras are an interface between vedas and transactional knowledge. Mastering sashtra will make understanding vedic concepts easy', notes the trustee.
