the number of people as a percentage of total population of hindus may be less.

many in younger age group are losing faith in rituals and temple going for prayers.
:nono: In fact since the exams are approaching fast, I see many young children praying at the temples for their success.

Youngsters are losing faith in rituals but not the faith in the Almighty, unless they are atheists!! :D

I would like to share excerpts of an article which is speaks volume about Delhi women and their plight.

"According to the latest statistical data provided by the United Nations, eighty percent of the Delhi women today are living with terrible fear of insecurity and uncertainty…

In all, about a shocking sixty percent of these women,at some point of time in their life, have experienced either rape, sexual violence, abuse or molestation..

Seventy percent of the men living in Delhi, according to the survey, have very shamelessly confessed to the Police that they have remained mute spectators to many rape and other incidents of sexual violence against women that took place right in front of them..

Delhi men’s lack of courage and the lack of their will to fight against the violators of law, according to social scientists,is encouraging the crime rate grow rapidly in Delhi.."

:focus: I wonder why there is a great hue and cry when jallikkattu is banned and everyone talks about our TRADITION!! :blabla:

But, when temples want to follow their OWN tradition, many are against it! What a world!!

In the name of tradition ,barbaric practices violating our constitution cannot be justified.

Those practices which do so should be put aside and replaced to conform to the principles enshrined in the constitution.

Discrimination on basis of gender is a basic issue not to be compromised .

Traditionally religion discriminates against women in many ways .

Barring their entry is only one of the ways.

1. Barbaric practice??

2. Because, women are different from men!

P.S: What about traditions in other religions? No one talks about it! :tape:

You are right.

But it is politics vs constitution now.

I guess, the hue and cry must be for political mileage...

Women might be different from men. They are also human beings to be treated equally.

Others [ Males] cannot prohibit them from praying anywhere .There is nothing like an impure woman.

I talked in another post about mumbai high court refusing to intervene when women approached them to be allowed to pray within Haji ali Darga.I thought an appeal to

supreme court is in order in that case.

All religions treat women as inferior to men and discriminate.

We should have a uniform civil code for women of all religions.

We treat our minorities as holy and let them ill treat women following their religion

We generally know more about our (hindu) practice. We (hindus) are impacted by our practices. If we write lengthy article or total lies about the practice of Inuit people, no body would care.
If a cop stops one for speeding, no amount of pointing others speeding will excuse the penalty for speeding. So it is totally useless.
Then again people in this site may not know or care about practices in other religions.

Hindu Dharma Sastras (ancient law books) ban foreign travel. Crossing the sea was a taboo in those days. But great Brahmins like Agastya and Kaundinya travelled to South East Asia and established a Hindu empire which lasted 1300 years in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
So the Sastras do not permit free intercourse as before with one who has returned from foreign lands though he may have performed some expiation ceremony. These customs only apply to common folks, rich and famous can have exceptions. Traditions are practices used over a period of time by SOME People, in someplace, there is nothing right or wrong about it.
There is no act which in itself right or wrong, it all depends on the association with the act.

I am quoting Swami Sivananda:
Now I shall talk to you on another important point. I have already pointed out in the beginning of this chapter that 'right' and 'wrong' are relative terms. They vary according to time, special circumstances, Varna and Ashrama. Morality is a changing and relative term. To kill an enemy is right for a Kshatriya king. A Brahmin or a Sannyasin should not kill anyone even for protecting himself during times of danger. He should practise strict forbearance and forgiveness. To speak an untruth to save the life of a Mahatma or one's Guru who has been unjustly charged by an unjust officer of a state is right. Untruth becomes a truth in this particular case. To speak a truth which brings harm to many is untruth only. To kill a dacoit who murders wayfarers daily is Ahimsa only, Himsa becomes Ahimsa under certain circumstances.

It is unfortunate that so much of debate is taking place on this matter. All the members of this forum have to notice that the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) in this regard has been filed by an advocate belonging to Muslim community living at Delhi. His intention behind filing this petition (which concerns the tradition and belief of Hindus) is questionable. In the recent times (especially after Mrs Sonia Gandhi has taken the front stage in Indian Politics), interference in our custom / traditions etc. are on the rise by external forces, be it Christian or Muslim lobbies - just to shatter the fabric of our culture / traditions. The recent stay of the Central Govt notification on Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu is by an organization called PeTA (from USA) with an intention to cripple the breeding of Desi-cows, so that our countries' milk production suffers. Please go through various websites that throw more light on the subject.

In the name of progressive thinking, some of the members of our forum are falling prey to the designs of our enemies, which should be dealt with utmost restraint and caution.
